A Hard One
Since I'm one of those who Kiss passed by in the second half of the 80s, I only heard Smashes, Thrashes & Hits (1988) after my personal Kiss Renaissance in 1992 for the first time (1).
Eager to discover and soak up everything I missed from 80's Kiss, I saw this compilation CD as a not a bad investment for the first step in my very best intentions, of course. And with the songs given to me, such as Heaven's on Fire (1984) or Tears are Falling (1985), I found myself in the best of sonic company. And somehow also with (You Make Me) Rock Hard. And there we already have it.
So today I decided to do this little incorrigible part of me one more time a favor and give a few more words about this song to the best.
But to get one thing off my chest first, is it just me or does Rock Hard's main riff, which kinda lingers through the verses in particular, sound like Love Gun (1977)? I just can't help thinking that it must have fallen or broken out of Love Gun's opening somewhere, and I can't quite remember where to put it back in. It's a little like taking an engine apart and painstakingly putting it back together, only to end up with a single bolt. You know what I mean?
But be that as it may, and to stick with that riff, it shouldn't be particularly difficult to find a title in the Kiss catalog that has a greater hit density than Love Gun, and since this isn't necessarily the most original riff of all time, depending on how you want to stage it, there would be a variety of to choose from (2).
We've got, for instance, Time Traveler (1986) or You Love Me to Hate You (1989) (3), which are basically one and the same riff but both already promised to each other, or also, and why not, A Million to One (1983) and its abruptly powerful opening riff after that ominous-vibing intro? Let's just put this in the key of Love Gun, and poof, we're already there. Well, that went pretty quickly in the end.
And all this without the jokes, which I originally intended to crack in leaning on the its title and Paul's genitals (4).
Side Note:
(1) I've been a fan of this band since 1980, but I've largely neglected this fact for long stretches of the unmasked period since ca. '84, apart from a few rather irregular but nonetheless intense exceptions. It wasn't until Revenge (1992) that I got completely back on track. And what a track!
(2) To poach outside the band's own repertoire, Tina Turner's One of the Living (1985), for example, written by none other than the great Holly Knight, would be a very solid choice. I take it for granted that at least Paul will not have missed this graceful piece of pop rock music, either as a songwriter or otherwise.
(3) Besides, we just had these two the other day.
(4) Apart from the title, most certainly.

Max in the Movies VS Game

I have to remind myself that the franchise can be viewed as a bunch of wasteland folklore shared orally, and that it's possible the narrator of the game is extremely unreliable and maybe an incel. Like... how do you misunderstand.... so bad....

hi gang. reminder that we are some of the best sweaters in the animal kingdom (second only to equines) allowing us to stay cool and keep moving in hot weather. we have 10 times the density of sweat glands compared to other great apes.
we are ALSO insanely good at smelling rain (specifically geosmin, found in the soil and activated by rain) with the ability to smell 10 parts per trillion. this is speculated to have helped our ancestors survive!
we ALSO have absolutely batshit diets compared to most other animals. caffeine and chocolate are completely toxic to most animals but we can eat it without even feeling sick. even avocados are severely toxic to many animals to the point where it can be fatal to eat, but humans love it!!!
we are ALSO the best endurance runners ON EARTH out of ANY other species. we beat horses in endurance running. you know, the animals that gradually evolved away most of their toes in order to be the best runners?? yeahhh.
and to top it all off. our lifespan is unusually long for our species' weight/mass. typically, the bigger a species is, the longer its average lifespan (e.g. domestic mice live for 1-3 years, whales can live over 200) but we're very small for how long our average lifespan is. big cats like tigers live around 14-15 years, brown bears 25 years, yet here we are expected to live around 75-85 years. that is NUTS.
humans as a species are so extremely cool. it's not just our intellect that makes us amazing. we may not be the fastest or the strongest in the animal kingdom but we're super cool in many other ways. next time you sweat you can go wow!!! humans are so cool I'm able to keep moving because of my absolutely insane number of sweat glands! thank you evolution!

The original 1979 Mad Max was made for $350,000, and made $100 million worldwide.
It is literally a bunch of stuntmen and nobody stage actors getting hurt and slowly going insane in the parts of Australia where no one was going to arrest you for illegally filming a movie there. Tied together with stock library music and editing techniques from the 1940s.

That isn't even Max on the poster. They said fuck it and handed an artist a random still and said "Paint this." 100% vibes on this. And it WORKED.
An inspiration to us all.
