i am still recovering from what he said at spa & i won‘t be able to watch any racing this weekend anyway but every race weekend with his is a good one so we‘re still doing this (even though they have already confirmed his next race on comms will be monza)

i’m tired of people acting like this move to ferrari has to be an unmitigated success, and if it isn’t then it’s the worst decision lewis has ever made. i’m tired of people acting like lewis still has something to prove, as if he doesn’t get the 8th then this latter part of his career will be, in their eyes, a failure, and that he should’ve retired instead. i’m tired of people not respecting that every year he’s done after 2021 has been an incredible feat of effort and not giving up, and that trying and trying and trying despite it all means so much more and holds so much more weight than any failures that you, from the twitter peanut gallery, perceive. idk if he’ll get the 8th, but i fucking love how he keeps trying. nothing he does now is a failure, you can’t fail in this sport when you have nothing left to prove. i will watch him try for as many years as he wants to and i will love him for it.

DRS won’t be on the 2026 cars, these are it’s replacements

F1 has been wanting to reduce its reliance on DRS for a while and it’s been known for a while that the 2026 cars won’t have it, however FOM and the FIA needed to come up with something that would aid overtaking in the absence of DRS and this is what they came up with.

Active Aero

Essentially there’s two modes for the aerodynamics of the car.

There will be a higher-downforce Z-mode, which is used for cornering, while on the straights drivers will be able to switch to a low-drag configuration, called X-mode, which will help boost top speed.

Z-mode is the standard mode, and all drivers will be able to switch between that and X-mode at predetermined points around the track.

Essentially the difference between the two modes is the rotation of the front and rear wings, so in the higher downforce Z-mode the flaps on the front wing will be in a position that makes them as tall as possible, whilst in X-mode the front wing flaps will flatten, and the rear wing will open.

This will mean that teams will be able to more closely tailor their set ups to suit the track, as they can have their higher downforce setting (Z-mode) for the corners whilst utilising their X-mode on the straights and as such not suffering in the straight line speed.

Manual Override Mode (MOM) / Override Mode

This is an electrical system, that is somewhat similar to the current ‘overtake button’ but more powerful and kind of overcomplicated.

The override will work by allowing the chasing car to continue using the maximum available power from their MGU-K (motor generator unit - kinetic, which generates power from braking) while the car ahead cannot.

MOM will only be able to be used when a car is within a specified distance of the car ahead at the end of the lap prior, and when that happens the car behind gets an extra boost of electrical power allowing them to continue using 350kW of electricity.

Essentially the car ahead will be depleting its battery at full power whilst the chasing car gets an extra boost.

In addition Override Mode will only be available when the chasing car is 290kph or faster so it’ll likely only be utilised on straights, but there’s a good chance that it’ll be available through straight-ish full throttle corners too.
