How long does it take you to sketch compared to the other steps? Any tips on how to sketch faster? It's the one step that I can't force myself to do if it starts out all wonky. I can force myself to ink and color once the sketch is "good enough", but sometimes I have a hard time making it "good enough". (It probably doesn't help that I only started thumbnailing after several years.)
Sketching doesn't usually take me THAT long; coloring is usually the longest step for me. If you want to sketch faster, it sounds like what you need is confidence in your drawing. I would suggest that you try sketching using pen or ink instead of pencil, if you do that...it'll force you to accept the lines that you put down first since you can't second-guess them and erase, and that in turn will help build confidence! It may also help you to focus more on observation to help get that "right line" first, which will also help with confidence and getting it down in your earliest strokes. Confidence in turn helps create speed!
If you just work digitally and are stuck on ctrl+z-ing all the time, it may be good to step away from digital and work with just traditional ink for awhile to help in building the confidence, then go back to digital!
Been a long time since I posted a carving, but here are some phone pics of a lil fella I finally finished! I designed this little creature and have some 2d art of him as well :)
