I like to weave in as many ends as possible as I go.
This is how I do it when I join a new colour.
‼️ For a better result: Fray or break the yarn to taper the end.
Works both for knitting* and crochet.
*Does not work so well if you are knitting in the round or in intarsia or colourwork, as it will distort that first stitch. Saves you loads of time though, if you are knitting a striped scarf or shawl.

kinda wish I had taken a photo of these before, but I’ve been doing some visible mending on my clothes recently :) the fashionable distressing had turned into slightly less fashionable gaping holes lol
thought it would be fun to try and continue the tree print onto the pants themselves to make it look like they were growing out—I’m not terribly good at embroidery bc I don’t do it very often but I think it turned out well!! yay :) I left some of the frayed edges in bc I liked the look, and I’m pretty happy with that decision \o/

How Does the Water Tribe Dye Their Clothing?
There are a few "realistic" ways for the Water Tribe to have acquired the blue coloring for their clothing:
Trade with Kyoshi Island

I headcanon that the Water Tribes originally imported indigo dye from Kyoshi Island, prior to the war (for the North) and the raids (for the South). Kyoshi Island is partially inspired by Japan, which is famous for its high-quality blue indigo.
Crowberry and Arctic Blueberry Dye

Both of these berries are native to the arctic. On their own, both berries produce purple dyes. However, if you mix these dyes with iron/rust-infused water or vinegar, they can become beautiful shades of blue.
Woad Dye

Woad is a plant that grows in subarctic climates like Southeastern Sibera. In the ATLAverse, they would probably grow using greenhouses in the NWT. Traditionally, the blue dye was created by fermenting woad leaves in a mixture of water and stale urine.
Or, alternatively, you could just ascribe their abundance of blue dye to a fictional animal or plant. My headcanon is that they dye their clothing blue using a poisonous-when-eaten plant to ward off large animals. It also has the added benefit allowing them to blend in with the sky when they stand along the horizon; this would be advantageous when hunting.

Another fish jacket?! Another fish jacket <3
This time I tried flat felled seams for the sleeves which was fun and it totally didn't almost kill my sewing machine.

The problem with sewing is that you quickly realise you have dumped lots of skill points into control thread and furthermore, there’s a lot of other hobbies that require control thread so you decide to pick up knitting, or crochet, or weaving, and then spinning happens to you, or rug making, or cord weaving, and then you turn the wrong corner on the internet and find out control thread also specs into basket weaving, and book binding, and then you’re thinking things like “I wonder if this also applies to lead climbing” and now you have A Problem

A project I finally finished! This was an old dress originally that didn’t fit. I separated the bodice and the skirt, and then abandoned it for three years 🤣 last week I finally took it out, and sewed a new hem on the skirt. Then I used a yarn needle and made a new seam over the hem out of yarn that I could crochet the waistband into. I made a Romanian cord for the tie too 🧵🩵

First work for a space-themed exhibition, Fires above. I'm super emotional about early humans, them looking at the sky, telling stories about these lights up there. Stories older than the glacier. We've been looking for thousands of years, and it's impossible not to.
Painted on agate.
