It was almost funny, you know, in a humourless kind of way, because Percy had the words 'I'm fine' on his lips as soon as he saw Jason, anticipating the question. But he knew he'd only go home and stare at the ceiling and think of all those things he should be doing, those and a dozen more.

Percy snorted, a half breath of laughter ( bitter, non-amused ) before releasing a slow breath. The gods would never tire of toying with them, and when it wasn't them, it would be someone else, and someone else, and someone else, all the demigods to come after them. One day there would be another son of Poseidon and Jupiter.

His feet dangled off the the dock, dipping into the water; he could feel the steady stream of power, conscious of the way it travelled through his body from his toes. He had done what he could at the time, he knows, but it still felt like not enough. For everything that came after, what was the point, really, in asking the gods to take better care and attention of their children? They didn't know what the word 'care' meant. And attention from a god was rarely a pleasant experience. Maybe the demigods that got off easiest were those who slipped through the cracks.

Jason has never had someone just get it so effortlessly before. Meeting Percy, knowing him, is the only really good thing he thinks came from any of this, and in moments like this it reminds him why it was worth it. He doesn’t have to ask him to explain–he understands him too. 

“You’d think they’d get tired of toying with us after a while, you know?” He sighs and throws one of the rocks in his hand out onto the lake from the dock where they sit and watches it skip a couple times before it sinks. “I used to think they largely left us alone, apart from claiming us, but it turns out we got all the shockwaves from the shit they sent your way.” He shakes his head and turns another stone between his fingers. He glances at Percy and can’t help but think he looks as tired as Jason feels. 

“I’ve spent a lot of time trying to be my father’s son. Seems pretty worthless now. But at least I don’t have to care if they think I’m wrong anymore. You know? Just–I don’t know. Try to live your life how you can. Easier said than done though I guess.”

favourite drink: hot chocolate and tea! I have both several times a day, depending on if I'm in the mood for making it manually (tea) or else i just turn on my hot chocolate machine and that makes it for me. Also, if I'm getting it when I'm out, it depends where I'm getting it from, as some places make better hot chocolate than tea, and vice versa.

currently watching: I've just finished watching Glitch, an australian show on Netflix about a group being resurrected, which was pretty cool.

okay so i got like, three books delivered this week, and in anticipation i reread another book that i had, and lads, let me tell ye, it was like quicksand. so now i have a list, some from my head, many from my wonderful friends’ heads, of prompts that basically made us all very soft or very “pleasantly scandalized rich lady from the sixties who just found out a juicy bit of goss about the new neighbor”. i hope ye like them! (DO NOT ADD TO THE LIST. I WILL MAKE A PART TWO. AND THREE. AND FOUR. MANY MANY PARTS. EVENTUALLY. )

[ HAIR ]:          sender slowly reaches out to catch a loose strand of the receiver’s hair and tuck it gently and securely back behind their ear, letting their touch linger afterwards. (if the receiver has short hair, then the sender reaches out and gently runs their fingers through their hair to smooth it back.)

[ CLOSE ]:          while standing remarkably close to one another, the sender is unable to stop themselves from running their gaze across the receiver’s body, lingering for a moment on their lips, before returning to initiate prolonged, intense eye contact.

[ CHIN ]:          as they stand close to one another, the sender hooks a finger and tenderly lifts the receiver’s chin, tilting it up so that they can look at one another, and running a thumb across their skin lightly.

[ HOLD ]:          while close to the receiver, the sender wordlessly takes a hold of their hand, for no other purpose than to be holding it.

[ PLAY ]:          while sitting together, the sender absently lifts the receiver’s hand, idly running their fingertips across the lines of their palms, mapping out every inch of their hand with slow, lazy touches.

[ GUIDE ]:          in the process of guiding the receiver through a crowded place, the sender’s hand protectively grazes against the small of their back

you're certain, you're convinced. you've built yourself up from the ground. it's not that you want to be encouraged to reach a distant goal or take some humble wobbly steps forward. you want to be encouraged in the decisions that you made for yourself. you want them to recognize that you know what's good for you. you don't need essays of advice or hugs the last for hours, you're satisfied with a couple of words and a look of recognition in their eyes, a friendly push in your back, a chuckle. you simply want to be recognized for your hard work. because it has been hard, hasn't it? it's okay to admit that, i know you know but i want to remind you regardless. because damn, it hasn't been easy whatsoever. yet there's a fire inside of you, a drive to keep going forward. do you know where you're going half of the time? are you endlessly chasing that moment of clarity you feel in the Exact second you make a decision, before doubt sets in? i say keep going, people like you are those who want to try, regardless of anything, to at least try. bruised knees, a twisted ankle but still, your flame, your hope. i think we might need you more than ever now. you take what's small, what's painful to touch and you embrace it, translate it. you blow your fire into it and watch it rise from the ashes and fly through the sky like fireworks. to know what you know, to feel what you feel, you care about the journey. you're an advocate for kindness and the power of rebirth. you find meaning in finding meaning and you hope people find meaning in you. that they do, without a shadow of a doubt, they do.
