I just went to see the film Materialists in the theater, I went in blind to the plot and didn't expect that I would like it very much but I had an amazing time!!

The cinematography was incredible. god. I am such a nerd for artsy interesting scene composition, especially if it lends itself well to the subtext or metaphors of the film. So often in Materialists the camera is not centered around the actors, or those who are giving dialog aren't the ones being focused on, and sometimes the angles would zoom in so much you couldn't even tell where the actors were in the scene or relative to each other. It accentuated the mood and drove in the long and quiet through-line of connection and loneliness present throughout the story.

It was a really inspired exploration of modern systematic dating, romantic confusion, priorities, the desperation of human connection, and the horribly bleak experience of being known vs being understood. I really enjoyed it, and it gave me a lot of ideas and inspiration for my own writing and exploration of romance in my work.

If you have a local theater and a day off, I heavily recommend seeing it.

rlly I just got back into writing for some of my ocs!! which was exciting actually. they've all gotten some tune ups and aesthetic fixings, and now I'm back to also chew on my beastars ocs some more!!

I missed the boys and writing about them. Also still have two or three more I haven't posted about yet?? we'll see.

i’m going to hold your hands when i say this and i am only going to be kind about it once: ai does not belong in fandom spaces, ever. not in writing, not in art, not in video, not at all. it does not matter how bad you want to see your favourite characters kiss, or how much you need a bit of help finishing a chapter, or whatever.

make friends with artists. commission somebody. learn to draw yourself. ask for a beta read. try a writing partnership. fandom spaces are communities, so engage with them! it is about the journey and the fact that we all love something enough to create and build together about that thing.

spending 30 seconds to kill a tree and get an AI to push out some soulless empty piece of “content” is antithetical to the entire point of being engaged with fandom, and if you’ve taken to doing this you should really reconsider if you belong in these spaces with the rest of us.

I love how detailed they all are, the small imperfections and differences that make it so you can tell who each character is just by looking at their hands. its really beautiful, and I think every character could have a lot of symbolism (or at least characterization) behind the way their hands are drawn if you dissected it.

Daisuke being a gamer & Yuji being the dancer makes me think that the night will end up being loud from screaming, them being sweaty, and probably a lot of cursing too. Which make me think that they'll end up getting in trouble together with the dorm matron lol

Also them being the athletic ones, would they challenge each other on that??

Oh for sure. They get in trouble with the dorm mother ALL the time and Vita hates it. Daisuke is typically a quiet animal, but Yuji brings out the loudness in everyone. Partly because hes very excitable and it rubs off, and partly because he's the only one who knows exactly how to piss Daisuke off, and he's become expert at it.

They also get in trouble all the time for curfew because Vita kicks them out of the dorm room on fridays when they're up late being rowdy and they go make chaos in the courtyard or front steps of the herbivore dorm WELL past the hours they should be getting to bed.

They've gotten pretty good at learning to evade it over the years,, but not every time. thankfully their crimes are minor enough it doesn't warrant more punishment than a scolding and maybe a detention.

They challenge each other a lot, and they both take it very seriously. They make an effort to get better at each other's hobbies so they can compete more evenly, and always place bets or a few yen on it to make it more motivating.

Keep thinking about it, but if Rain had grown in a perfect world, without discrimination, enough money and education and he could have had achieve his dream job what would it be ? Would he still want to be a barman?

Actually yeah! He would still be a bartender but he can also be a florist because he likes gardening & growing his own plants, especially the herbal & poisonous ones hehe

Because Rain in both perfect/not world would still have a chemist background & he loves experimenting

But he actually might still be an informan tho but it depends, he's the type of person/animal that likes to try everything including jobs

Because the boys are in the same dorm, do you think they sometimes held an activity together? Like game night or movie night

Absolutely!!

Fuku loves to arrange nights to eat and hang out and convince his friends to play him at chess, Daisuke really likes video games and owns several handheld consoles, Yuji is into dance and music videos, they have a lot of little hang out seshes!

It's sort of their routine to all file into the dorm at different times of the night, and whoever gets there first will start some kind of activity and anyone else that gets back after will join in. There's not a lot of privacy in small dorms, so they're all very acquainted with each other's hobbies.

I actually have a piece of writing that's about their nightly routine and some of the exposition I just talked about above, maybe I'll post it tomorrow :>

His playlist are a combination of songs that remind me of Isamu and songs I think he’d enjoy playing on drums.

Her playlist is short and sweet. Most songs are rebellious and pop punk inspired.

I’d be interested in your oc playlists! They’re a fun way to develop a character’s personality and voice. You’ve got a big-ish cast too so experimenting with new music genres could be exciting!

I usually choose songs similar to a character’s personality, hobbies, personal taste. If I’m in the zone, a playlist about an oc’s backstory.

These sound so right for them I love itt lol.

I like to listen to music while I draw characters, and whatever feels right I'll add into a playlist for them. Sometimes it works to develop or already match their music taste, and sometimes it's just fun. It gives me a chance to explore a lot of genres.

I have playlists for some of my human and other animal characters, I hope to make some for the boys soon, whenever I have the time to comb my likes and recommend listens
