Episode 1: Seattle, Washington

Explore the Pacific Northwest as Moveable Feast with Relish travels to Seattle to get a memorable taste for the region known as Cascadia. Host Curtis Stone jumps aboard a seaplane with Chef Tom Douglas as they head to Coupeville on Whidbey Island. Chef Tom is the winner of three James Beard Awards, and together with Chef Renee Erickson, they are a driving force behind the food scene in Seattle. First stop: a visit to Penn Cove to see where mussels grow in what’s considered the best environment in the region. Next, we meet up with Georgie Smith of Willowood Farm, which is one of the most painted and photographed farms in the Pacific Northwest. With their ingredients in hand, the chefs then collaborate on the creation of a true regional feast that includes steamed mussels; a spiced mussel and saffron soup; and a grilled whole salmon with Walla Walla onions and fava leaves.

Episode 2: Taos, New Mexico

Experience the rich history of Taos, New Mexico as Moveable Feast with Relish samples this mountainous region’s native ingredients. Host Curtis Stone meets Christopher Lujan, who grows ancient heirloom blue corn, highly prized by indigenous cultures, in the high-elevation mountains of Taos Pueblo. Curtis also pays a visit to Romero Farms, known for growing everything from oats to heirloom varietal chilies. Settled at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Santa Fe, New Mexico is home to a culinary scene of mixed influences and Southwestern flavors and ingredients. In this episode of Moveable Feast with Relish, Host Curtis Stone is joined by Chef Martín Rios, co-owner of Santa Fe’s award-winning Restaurant Martín, and Chef Leslie Chavez, who also has a strong background in catering and pastry in New Mexico. Together, they visit The Rooted Leaf and Celestial Bee, a farm that produces exquisite bee honey and fresh, highly cared-for produce. They also visit a local chile farmer to see how Chimayo chile, a local heritage pepper, is dried and ground. At a colorful hacienda in Santa Fe, Chef Rios makes rosemary-roasted turnips and Chef Chavez makes a sopaipilla with the locally sourced honey.

Episode 4: Carmel, California

Visit the charming seaside town of Carmel, California for this episode of Moveable Feast with Relish. Host Curtis Stone joins Michelin-starred Chefs Justin Cogley and James Syhabout as they forage for seaweed at low tide along the area’s iconic 17-Mile Drive. They then travel to a vineyard in Carmel Valley that specializes in Pinot Noir and learn how its exquisite estate-grown wines benefit from the land’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean. An intimate feast is then prepared at Aubergine at L’Auberge Carmel, where Chef Cogley serves as executive chef. Topping the menu are dishes that feature the locally sourced ingredients: foraged seaweed and vegetables; farm-raised rack of lamb; and Monterey Bay abalone.

Episode 5: San Luis Obispo County, California

In this episode of Moveable Feast with Relish, Chef Curtis Stone heads for San Luis Obispo County, where he jumps into the waters of Morro Bay Oyster Company, known as a hub for oyster farming since the early 1900s. Curtis is joined by internationally-known Chefs David Rosner and Sherry Yard to source local Pacific Gold oysters. Then they head to Rutiz Family Farms, followed by a trip to a local vineyard. Together, the chefs then prepare a grand feast set against the backdrop of the region’s most spectacular volcanic peaks. On the menu are SLO County-sourced ingredients prepared in a variety of ways: raw oysters served with chili and ginger granita; grilled yellowtail tuna and fennel accompanied by roasted oysters; and a dessert of caramelized fennel and fruit strudel a la mode.

Episode 6: Puerto Rico

Chef Michelle Bernstein heads for Puerto Rico, stopping first at Frutos del Guacabo, which provides some of the highest quality fruits and vegetables to chefs in 160 hotels across throughout the island. Michelle also makes a trip to Tommy Forte Seafood Market, known for selling everything from swordfish to shark. Michelle is then joined by Chef Kevin Roth, who combines his love for Puerto Rico with a passion for barbecue, along with Chef Ventura Vivoni, who makes art out of local ingredients. Fresh fruit is used in courses throughout the feast, and a variety of seafood is prepared along the way.

Episode 7: Portsmouth, NH

This week on Moveable Feast with Relish we’re in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to throw a party with James Beard Award nominee Chef David Vargas, known for dishing up some of New England’s best Mexican cuisine, and Chef Will Myska, celebrated for bringing real Texas-style barbecue to the Northeast. Field trips include a stop at Maine Meat Butcher Shop to source local, organic, grass-fed meat, to Big Scott’s Local Grown to source a specialty heritage corn grown exclusively for Chef Vargas, and finally to Vernon Family Farm for pasture-raised chicken and to cook up a harvest feast over an open fire. This week on Moveable Feast with Relish, we’re on the road in Boston, where a vibrant and diverse immigrant community is making a delicious mark on the food scene. The Bumby pages are frankly sentimental but nonetheless somehow dry, while the little boy’s attempts to be a man in two languages, and to keep up with his father’s enjoyment of café society, are simply charming. (Once you have heard the proprietress of Shakespeare and Company grandly referred to as “Silver Beach,” you are doomed to remember her that way. And you will perhaps also recall Bumby’s announcement of what he has learned from his nanny’s husband, Touton: “Tu sais, Papa, que les femmes pleurent comme les enfants pissent?” A different version of Papa, to be sure, but one worth having.)

Even in this record of spontaneous innocence, however, the chance is not missed to take another sidelong whack at Scott Fitzgerald:

“Monsieur Fitzgerald is sick Papa?” “He is sick because he drinks too much and he cannot work.” “Does he not respect his métier?” “Madame his wife does not respect it or she is envious of it.” “He should scold her.” “It is not so simple.”

Again, there is nothing to complain of here in point of terseness and economy, but it sent me back again to that supremely unsatisfactory moment in the original collection, in the chapter titled “A Matter of Measurements,” when Fitzgerald invites Hemingway to lunch at Michaud’s restaurant and tells him: Todoist and siri.

“Zelda said that the way I was built I could never make any woman happy and that was what upset her originally. She said it was a matter of measurements. I have never felt the same since she said that and I have to know truly.”

By his own account, Hemingway thereupon leads the author of The Diamond As Big As the Ritz out to the men’s room, conducts a brief inspection, and reassures (or, to be more exact, fails to reassure) his pal that all is well, and that he’s looking down on his penis, literally and figuratively, rather than taking the sidelong perspective. I have never trusted this story, if only because—as Hemingway himself later admits—“it is not basically a question of the size in repose. It is the size that it becomes.” So, unless the viewing in the Michaud pissoir was of an engorged and distended “Scottie”—which it plainly was not—then Papa was offering Fitzgerald a surrogate form of consolation. And was then planning to write about it! (That Zelda was a lethal bitch who wanted her husband at least to fail and perhaps to die is for once not confirmed by another new inclusion, “Scott and His Parisian Chauffeur,” where she is pictured as behaving really quite gracefully under pressure and where the same Mike Strater whose absence was deplored in the original preface is also shown in a fairly good light on a train from Princeton to Philadelphia.)

I suppose that another way of betraying a friend of whom it’s thinkable that you were jealous, and who would, as it happens, do you the good turn of introducing you to an editor like Maxwell Perkins and a publisher like Scribner, would be to write about him thus:

Scott was a man then who looked like a boy with a face between handsome and pretty. He had very fair wavy hair, a high forehead, excited and friendly eyes and a delicate long-lipped Irish mouth that, on a girl, would have been the mouth of a beauty (italics mine).

All right so far, perhaps, even with that emphasis noted, but then: “The mouth worried you until you knew him and then it worried you more.” And this in the second paragraph of the first page of the chapter about his friend—the one he is later on bluffly cheering up about his sand-castle masculinity …

It might be trite to pick on the verb worried, but undue or conspicuous anxiety about such matters has been known to furnish a clue about the author himself, and Hemingway more or less forces one to contemplate this very contingency. The brilliance of the anecdote in “A Strange Enough Ending,” in which the author bids adieu to Gertrude Stein and her partner, is that it is almost the sound of the other shoe dropping after that rugged earlier moment in “Miss Stein Instructs,” in which Stein dismisses male homosexuality as truly and horribly unnatural. Hemingway writes,

I heard someone speaking to Miss Stein as I had never heard one person speak to another; never, anywhere, ever. Then Miss Stein’s voice came pleading and begging, saying, “Don’t, pussy. Don’t. Don’t, please don’t. I’ll do anything, pussy, but please don’t do it. Please don’t. Please don’t, pussy.”

As someone wrote about Dorothy Parker’s short story “Big Blonde,” the talent (I won’t say genius) here lies in getting the reader’s imagination to shoulder the bulk of the work. A pretty revenge, I dare say, if slightly and crudely rubbed in a few lines later when Miss Stein is described as resembling “a Roman emperor.”

And so to the excerpt that has continued to excite perhaps the most comment. Closing the original chapter in which Miss Stein expresses her loathing for male perversion, Hemingway writes that he went home to Hadley and “in the night we were happy with our own knowledge we already had and other new knowledge we had acquired in the mountains.” Read these words alongside the following lines originally excised from the restored chapter titled “Secret Pleasures”: “When we lived in Austria in the winter we would cut each other’s hair and let it grow to the same length.” Presuming these to have been the same mountains, or even perhaps assuming slightly different peaks, the whole concept of matching coiffureappears to Hemingway to have been almost unbearably exciting:

Gosh. And this, as some addicts will already know, is merely an amuse-bouche for the main course of another unfinished Hemingway effort, “The Garden of Eden,” at the end of which it seems that hair must be discarded altogether, and shaved heads become the sexual totem. Not even Adam and Eve went so far in their admission of guilt and nakedness, but perhaps a man whose mother once dressed him as a girl and trimmed his crop to suit, and crooned to him as “Ernestine,” had some old scores to settle in the androgyny column.

What is it exactly that explains the continued fascination of this rather slight book? Obviously, it is an ur-text of the American enthrallment with Paris. To be more precise, it is also a skeleton key to the American literary fascination with Paris (and contains some excellent tips for start-up writers, such as the advice to stop working while you still have something left to write the next day). There are the “wouldn’t be without, even if you don’t quite trust” glimpses of the magnetic Joyce and the personable Pound and the apparently wickedly malodorous Ford Madox Ford. Then there are the moments of amusingly uncynical honesty, as when Stein and Toklas met Ernest and Hadley and “forgave us for being in love and being married—time would fix that.” The continued currency of that useless expression the lost generation becomes even more inexplicable when it is traced to a stupid remark made by Gertrude Stein’s garage manager, and such quotable fatuity, however often consecrated by repeated usage, is always worth following to its source. Most of all, though, I believe that A Moveable Feast serves the purpose of a double nostalgia: our own as we contemplate a Left Bank that has since become a banal tourist enclave in a Paris where the tough and plebeian districts are gone, to be replaced by seething Muslim banlieues all around the periphery; and Hemingway’s at the end of his distraught days, as he saw again the “City of Light” with his remaining life still ahead of him rather than so far behind.

Rigid Body Unity

So you want to add some stairs to your game? Great! Adding stairs in level design adds more vertical variety to your levels. Or perhaps your game is based on stairs (Stair Climbing Simulator 2018?).

Rigidbody object flying. I am quite new to unity and am making a small game for college. I have managed to make my player pick up the intended objects.

What is a RigidBody in Unity? First RigidBody in Unity is a “Programming Class” defined at the core of the engine and accessible via Script using the namespace “UnityEngine”. This in simple terms means that it is a programming structure that seeks to model a particular type of behavior.

The rigidbody will be under full control of animation or script control by changing transform.position. Kinematic bodies also affect the motion of other rigidbodies through collisions or joints. Can connect a kinematic rigidbody to a normal rigidbody with a joint and the rigidbody will be constrained with the motion of the kinematic body.

In this tutorial I'll show you how to implement stair climbing from scratch in Unity3D if you're using a Rigidbody as your player. Before we get to coding, you should consider your (much easier / less work) alternatives:

While the Rigidbody will react very precisely and even use the physics material property to calculate the reaction, the Character Controller will be more permissive: It will automatically climb.

Use a CharacterController. It already has some support for this, but can't have physics applied willy nilly, nor is it as customizable as a Rigidbody with multiple colliders.

Use a CapsuleCollider with your Rigidbody. If you get the player going fast enough they can just ram right over the stairs.

Use ramps or stairs with invisible ramps over the steps. They work just as well and even provide a smooth transition surface. Doesn't work for cases of dynamic/physics content or player generated content.

If you've looked into these and you still need stairs, let's dive in.

Scope and Requirements

This tutorial uses Unity3D and C# but the concepts should be the same (except for the Unity specific quirks I mention). The stair stepping style is based off of the behavior found in the Source Engine.

You should also have a working MonoBehaviour script for simple player controls that uses a Rigidbody component.It should be able to move at a minimum. If you don't, RigidbodyFPSWalker is a decent start

Configurable Options

The stair stepping can be tweaked in numerous ways. For now, we will define only two parameters explicitly that will be used later in the tutorial.

A quick look at ContactPoints

The physics engine in Unity3D, PhysX, generates collision events(OnCollisionEnter, OnCollisionStay, ..). These collision events return a Collision object with gobs of information.

A nifty little property on this object is the Collision.contacts member which gives a list of all of the points of contact in a collision (well, usually all of them, sometimes it doesn't but only with complex collision MeshColliders hitting each other).

The ContactPoints come with a position, a normal, and collider information.

For visualization, here's a collision between my player (a green BoxCollider), a surface, and the resulting ContactPoints. The ContactPoints are visualized as blue lines.

Getting the ContactPoints

We need all the ContactPoints every physics frame. To capture them we save all ContactPoints generated by both OnCollisionEnter and OnCollisionStay events.

We need to loop through all the ContactPoints and then do the stair step.It is best to do this in FixedUpdate as we're working with physics data which is only generated every physics frame.

Detecting ground and a stair

Now that we have all the ContactPoints for the player we need to look through them for some specifics

For the rest of the tutorial this will be the example situation we'll be looking at

Detecting the ground

Detecting the ground must be done before looking for stair steps. We can say that ground is any ContactPoint Todoist and siri. with a Y (up) normal component of greater than 0.0001 meaning that it has some sort ofupward direction to it.

From this function we are able to determine if the player is grounded as well as at what Y value the player is grounded.

Detecting a stair

Detecting a stair is a much more intensive process that requires a lot of math. FindStep does very similar things to FindGround above.

First, we don't care about any stairs if the player is not moving.

Second, the actual checks are done in ResolveStepUp but the process is the same, check every ContactPoint.

Now we start building ResolveStepUp

For ContactPoint Kingsoft wps office standard. s to be considered a stair, they have to remotely look like a stair. When the player hits the stairs, it's like hitting a really short wall and it will generateContactPoints with really low Y (up) directional components for their normals.So, for each ContactPoint, we only used the ones with low Y normal values

Considering this check says nothing about the height at which this ContactPoint occured, it should filter out all the ones that are too high for the player to step up to

We've now gathered quite a bit of data.

Determining where to step up

We've detected a stair, this is cool, but we don't know how to get up it.

How to step up

We hit something, figured out it was a stair, and even got the position to where we're going to step up. We did this all in the beginning of FixedUpdate and we will now check at the end whether to step up or not.

NOTE: You'll need the last physics frame velocity in order to make the step feel smooth as the player is stopped by the time we read the ContactPoint where they hit the wall.

Combining everything above, here's the full code put together. You will have to modify this to play nicely with your version ofRigidBodyFPSWalker or the like.

Other checks

Keep in mind the only real restriction that we placed on the player was that they can only step up things with a horizontal normal and things that are under a specific height. There are a few corner cases with this method including

Making sure that if the player creeps back down a step, it doesn't try to step them back up.

Player is too wide to step up into the given area.

When a collider is deleted in between physics frames (null checks needed on colliders in ContactPoints)

but these I'll leave these up to you to implement. They build off of the checks in ResolveStepUp

These are tips for using Rigid Bodies and Physics in Unity. I was maintaining these in a document on my PC and decided I may as well store them publicly so other people can benefit from what I have learned:

Rigidbodies and the Hierarchy

Non-kinematic rigid bodies will ignore the hierarchy. If you make one rigid body a child of another and translate the parent. Then the child will NOT move with the the parent. The child’s transform will update so that it remains in place in world space. If you want to couple rigid bodies you need to use joints.

Avoid scaling and especially non-uniform scaling of colliders. There is a big performance hit for non-uniform scaling. Negative scale makes no sense with physics so don’t. Set the scale of the GameObject to 1,1,1 and use the properties of the collider to set its size and position. Another option is to attach the collider to a child game object.

Try to separate physics geometry and render geometry in prefabs. This makes it easy to do things like LOD.

OnCollision Events

OnCollisionEnter, OnCollisionStay, OnCollisionExit events only fire on the transform with the rigidbody component on it. All colliders beneath a rigid body in the hierarchy are grouped into one big collider. If you try to capture these events with a script placed on a child collider the events will NOT fire for that script.

OnCollisionEnter, OnCollisionStay, OnCollisionExit are called in the physics loop (once per FixedUpdate call).

OnCollisionStay is NOT called if the rigidbody it is attached to is sleeping.

OnCollisionEnter, OnCollisionStay, OnCollisionExit events are called once per rigid body, per physics frame. So if a plane implements OnCollisionStay and has a cube, ball and cylinder sitting on it (each of which has a rigidbody) then OnCollisionStay will be called three times per FixedUpdate call. If the cube, ball and cylinder were all grouped in the hierarchy under a single rigid body then there would be one OnCollisionStay call.

Collisions

The Collision object contains the “collider” field which is the collider on the other object that was hit. If you want the collider on this object then look in the contacts array. There may be more than one collider in that array.

OnCollisionEnter, OnCollisionStay, OnCollisionExit calls generally occur in pairs each participant rigidbody receives a call. Most of the time the collision information is identical but WheelColliders can produce different Contacts arrays for each participant in a collision.

Collision.contacts can sometimes have zero length. Unity claims that the collision.contacts array will always have at least one value. THIS IS NOT THE CASE FOR OBJECTS WITH A COMBINATION OF REGULAR COLLIDERS AND WHEEL COLLIDERS. The following scenario can generate a frame with OnCollision calls that have zero length contact arrays. If the wheel collider suspension is being compressed over a number of frames and a regular collider grounds. Then the first frame of the regular collider hitting the ground will have collision.contacts.Length = 0.

Colliders

Contacts for mesh colliders and boxcolliders are calculated on vertices of a mesh that penetrate another collider.

A SphereCollider will usually generate one contact point.

A BoxCollider collider contact will usually have one,two or four contact points.

Mesh colliders can produce hundreds of contact points. Keep them simple.

Avoid mesh colliders if possible. They are expensive. Mesh colliders must be convex to collide with other mesh colliders.

To create and run a C program using Visual Studio 2019 Once Visual Studio is started, click Z reate a new project. Select Empty Project and click Next. You can write the source in Notepad, and compile it in command line using Developer Command Prompt which comes with Visual Studio. Open the Developer Command Prompt, enter the directory you are working in, use the cl command to compile your C code. For example, cl helloworld.c compiles a file named helloworld.c. Autocomplete your code as you type, quickly repair problems, and refactor your code to.

Moving And Rotating Rigid Bodies

Avoid regularly setting transform.postion and transform.rotation on rigidbodies. PhysX must do a big solve when this happens. This reduces the stability of the physics simulation and has a heavy performance cost.

The correct way to move and rotate rigidbodies is by setting the velocity and angularVelocity values.

rigidbody.transform.Translate(1,0,0); //WRONG is equivalent to: rigidbody.velocity = new Vector3(1f/Time.fixedDeltaTime,0,0); Note that you need to zero the velocity on the next FixedUpdate frame to stop the rigid body.

FixedUpdate Update and Coroutines

Rigidbody Unity3d

FixedUpdate is for physics and Update is for rendering.

Rigidbody Unity Jump

Fixed Update will normally be called at 60 fps.

Update will typically be called at 30 – 60 fps or more.

When using coroutines for physics calculations be sure to use WaitForFixedUpdate NOT WaitForUpdate. Onenote 2016 ipad download. Update is for rendering, Fixed update is for physics.

Floating Point Precision Errors

Keep your game within 6000 units of the origin. Floating point precision drops the further from the origin you get. You will start to notice glitches if you get too far from the origin. This limit seems to be around 6000 units.

Keep your forces below 10,000 Newtons. Forces above this can cause instability.

Keep your torques even smaller. PhysX clamps angularVelocity (The setting is in the Physics settings). There is no point applying a torque that will accelerate more that this limit in a single frame.

Keep your velocities within 1000 units of zero. If you need to go faster than this then use a moving reference frame.

Rigidbody Unity Kinematic

Keep your masses bellow 10000 kg and above .01 kg. Jittering and instability may result if you push this too far.

Unity With Python

⚡️ A very fast, simple, and general inter-process communication example between Unity3D C# and Python, using ZeroMQ.

PS. It looks slow in the GIF above because I put a delay of one second between each message so that you can see itworking.

Python for Unity facilitates Unity's interaction with various media and entertainment industry applications and ensures that you can integrate Unity into a broader production pipeline seamlessly. Potential benefits of using Python in your Unity project include: Automating scene and sequence assembly in the context of using Unity as a real-time.

The other neat part is that Unity3D can produce binaries for all major platforms. This includes Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android, iOS, and otherx. So not only does this add 3D capabilities to Python, but it also includes multi-platform support. The build process itself is simple and directed by the game engine itself.

Core Pillars

very fast — ZeroMQ is a networking library that allows you to send huge amount of data from server to client in a short period of time. I’m talking about casually sending/receiving 10,000 requests per second.

simple — You don’t have to explicitly open and bind a socket or know anything about low-level networking.

general — You can use this to send/receive any kind of data request. You can send image, video, text, JSON, file, or whatever you want. In this example, we are sending text.

inter-process — The communication is done inside the same machine. Which means very low-latency.

If you answer Yes to any of these questions but it seems you have found no solutions,then this repository is definitely for you!(If you answered Yes to all questions, you and me are brothers! 😏)

A complex calculation (based on the data received from Unity) is performed in python and it produces a result (action); The result (action) is sent back via TCP to Unity. The character performs the action corresponding to the result. Steps 1-4 are repeated until infinity (unless the client or server stops). I used Keras in Python to design a neural network calculating something like a noise-reducing-function. It works pretty good so far, and now I want to use this network to clean the data inside a Unity-Project of mine. I would not have thought that this could be so difficult.

I’ve tried a lot. With a lot of searching on the internet, I’ve found no solutions that is simple, fast, and generalenough that I can apply to any kind of communication between Python and Unity3D. All I’ve done in the past were simplya hack to either get my scientific computation work in Unity instead of python, or communicate between the processes painfully.

Until I found ZeroMQ approach from this repository(and some head scratching).

Solution Explanation

I’ve built a request-reply pattern of ZeroMQ where Python (server) replies whenever Unity (client) requestsa service from Python.

Getting Started

Clone this repository using git clone https://github.com/off99555/Unity3D-Python-Communication.git command.

Open UnityProject (its dll files are targeting .NET 4.x version) and run Assets/NetMQExample/Scenes/SampleScene.

Run python file PythonFiles/server.py using command python server.py on a command prompt.

You should start seeing messages being logged inside Unity and the command prompt.

Specifically, Unity will send request with a message Hello 10 times, and Python will simply reply World 10 times.There is a one second sleep between each reply on the server (to simulate long processing time of the request).

Please read the comments inside PythonFiles/server.py and UnityProject/Assets/NetMQExample/Scripts/ and you willunderstand everything more deeply.

The most important thing is that you should follow the 4 getting started steps first. Don’t skip it! ❣️

Requirements

PyZMQ is the Python bindings for ZeroMQ. You can install it usingpip install pyzmq command or see more installation options here orhere.

NetMQ is a native C# port of ZeroMQ. Normally you need to install this usingNuGet package manager inside Visual Studio when you want to build a .NET application, or you could install using.NET CLI. But for this repository here, you don’t need to do any of the installation because we’ve already includedAsyncIO.dll and NetMQ.dll for you inside UnityProject/Assets/NetMQExample/Plugins/ directory.If you want to build your own dll files, please take a look atthis issue.

Known Issues

Based on this issue, the NetMQ implementation is not working nicely with Unity. If you create more than one ZeroMQ client in Unity, the Unity editor will freeze.

Troubleshooting

While both server and client are running and communicating fine, I kill the server process, restart the server, then both server and client seem to not be communicating anymore. Why don’t they continue communicating? Is this a bug?

No, this is the expected behavior of ZeroMQ because of the simplicity of the code. It’s mentioned in the guidehere. If you want to make the code better, which is notthe focus of this example, you can learn more about ZeroMQ as suggested in the screenshot below.

The problem is that when you restart the server, the server won’t reconnect to the old client anymore. You have to restart the client also.

Disclaimer

This repository is designed to be a minimal learning resource for getting started. It’s not a fully working high-level package.After you understand the example, my job is done.

Most of the code are just copies from the official ZeroMQ tutorial. I try to make this as simple to grasp as possible,so I only log the message to the console and nothing fancy. This is to minimize the unnecessary learning curve.

Show how to do this with SocketIO. SocketIO is another approach I found very viable and stable. I use BestHTTP package in Unity for SocketIO client and use python-socketio as SocketIO server. And it does not have the issue of making Unity editor freezes.

The C# support in Visual Studio Code is optimized for cross-platform .NET Core development (see working with .NET Core and VS Code for another relevant article). Our focus with VS Code is to be a great editor for cross-platform C# development.

Installing C# support

C# language support is an optional install from the Marketplace. You can install it from within VS Code by searching for 'C#' in the Extensions view (⇧⌘X (Windows, Linux Ctrl+Shift+X)) or if you already have a project with C# files, VS Code will prompt you to install the extension as soon as you open a C# file.

Roslyn and OmniSharp

Visual Studio Code uses the power of Roslyn and OmniSharp to offer an enhanced C# experience. We offer support for:

On startup the best matching projects are loaded automatically but you can also choose your projects manually. The status bar will show what projects have been loaded and also allows you to select a different set of projects. To do so, click on the status bar projects item and select Change projects…. Selecting a project.json file will open a .NET Core project and VS Code will load that project plus the referenced projects.

Selecting a *.sln file opens a MSBuild-project. It will load the referenced *.csproj projects and sibling or descendant project.json files but no other project files that are referenced from the solution file.

Selecting a folder will make VS Code scan for *.sln, project.json and *.csx files (C# scripts) and VS Code will attempt to load them all.

Once the project is loaded the enhanced experiences light up..

CodeLens

Another cool feature is the ability to see the number of references to a method directly above the method. Click on the reference info to see the references in the Peek view. This reference information updates as you type.

Note: Methods defined in object, such as equals and hashCode do not get reference information due to performance reasons.

Tip: You can turn off references information displayed in CodeLens with the editor.codeLenssetting.

Find References/Peek Definition

You can click on the references of an object to find the locations of its use in place without losing context. This same experience works in reverse where you can Peek the definition of an object and see it inline without leaving your location.

Quick Fixes / Suggestions

There are some basic quick fixes supported in VS Code. You will see a lightbulb and clicking on it, or pressing ⌘. (Windows, Linux Ctrl+.) provides you with a simple list of fixes/suggestions.

My Project won't load

VS Code only supports a limited set of project types (primarily .NET Core). For full .NET project support, we suggest you use Visual Studio Community.

IntelliSense is not working

This is typically as a result of the current project type not being supported. You can see an indication in the OmniSharp flame in the bottom left hand side of the status bar.

How do I build/run my project?

VS Code supports tasks for build and natively understand the output of MSBuild, CSC, XBuild. Find out more in the Tasks documentation.

I'm missing required assets to build and debug C# in VS Code. My debugger says 'No Configuration'

The Visual Studio Code C# extension can generate the assets you need to build and debug. If you missed the prompt when you first opened a new C# project, you can still perform this operation through the Command Palette (View > Command Palette) by typing '.NET', and running .NET: Generate Assets for Build and Debug. This command will generate the necessary launch.json and tasks.json configuration files (under the .vscode folder).

OneNote is a free application from Microsoft that allows you to collect notes in a variety of formats – handwritten text, typed text, digital drawings, photographs, links, screenshots, videos, and audio files – and organize them, share them, and use them to create other documents. OneNote is an excellent app whether you take notes in a classroom, convention hall, or business meeting. However, the usefulness of OneNote is greatly increased when you use a tablet with it. The two top competitors on the market today are the Surface Pro and the iPad Pro, and both are compatible with OneNote.

OneNote on a Surface Pro

Because the Microsoft Surface Pro is a Windows device, there are many more apps available that are compatible with OneNote. It works like a Windows PC, which means you can run the basic OneNote App available in the Microsoft Store. This is also true for the Surface Pro.

One of the benefits of the app is the ability to easily add pictures to your notes using the Surface Pro’s camera. Just keep in mind that the photo quality may not be very good, especially in conditions with little light. The iPad Pro offers a much better picture-taking (and editing) experience compared to the Surface Pro.

On a Surface Pro, the typical battery life is about 7 hours, which could leave someone looking for an outlet near the end of the workday even if they charged it the night before. However, the battery life is considered an improvement over the previous versions of the Surface tablet.

One of the key benefits of the Surface Pro is its physical, tactile keyboard a part of the cover. The Surface Pro does need to be docked in order to use the keyboard, but it is an option that isn’t available with an iPad Pro. Note that the keyboard can be tilted at a slight angle when used. These features would be very important to someone who plans to type their notes into OneNote rather than write them.

The ability to lay the Surface Pro screen almost flat while it is still attached to the keyboard works extremely well for adding handwritten notations to something you are working on in OneNote. Of course, the screen can be completely detached from the keyboard when needed.

Note that one of the commands available on the Surface Pro tablet that isn’t available on the iPad Pro is the Add/Remove Space command located on the Insert tab. This makes the process of rearranging the content in your notes very easy.

Compared to the Surface Pro, the iPad Pro is both lighter and thinner, making it easier to carry around, more mobile, and easier to hold for notetaking. This can be a major benefit for those who have to spend extended time taking notes without the convenience of a desk or table. The battery life of an iPad Pro averages about 15 hours, almost twice that of the Surface Pro. This is great for users who often struggle to find an outlet to charge their device.

One of the outstanding features of the iPad Pro is the Apple Pencil. The Apple Pencil glides very smoothly and is better at capturing handwriting when compared to the Microsoft Surface Stylus, which is a great bonus for OneNote users that depend on handwritten notes. It also has a solid tip, unlike the soft tip of the Surface Stylus. The size of the tip is also slightly larger on the Pencil.

Another plus of the Apple Pencil is that you don’t have to switch tabs to erase something. Rather, you can simply flip the Pencil over and use its eraser. The lasso tool can also be turned on instantly by using the magnetic button on the Pencil.

Unlike the Surface Pro, the iPad Pro allows you to take very high-quality photos even in low-light conditions. You can then easily add them to your OneNote document, as well as zoom, crop, and focus them. This is very useful for capturing content-heavy slides during a presentation or extensive notes someone has written on a whiteboard. Also remember that the Add/Remove Space command is not available for the iPad Pro, and this can make it difficult to rearrange content you have added to your notes.

For many, iPads have replaced paper pads for capturing notes from meetings and presentations. But typing on the iOS keyboard is a tedious exercise for even the most fleet-fingered. Earlier this year, Microsoft brought relief by adding handwriting capability to OneNote for iPad.

To write notes using your finger or a stylus, tap the Draw tab on the OneNote ribbon and select a pen, marker, or highlighter, as well as ink color and thickness. If you’re using a stylus, you should also tap Palm Rejection from the ribbon and select the image that best resembles the way you hold a pen. This will prevent the iPad from mistaking your palm resting on the screen for digital input. From here, you can jot down notes, draw a draft of a flow-chart, or doodle in the margins of your meeting agenda while your coworker blathers on.

Annotate images

Say you get back from a meeting and you want to turn some of that whiteboard brainstorming into action items and share it with your colleagues. Search scanned documents, web clippings, and other images

Microsoft also recently added OCR to iPad for OneNote. This feature makes text in any images you’ve captured searchable. Now you’ll be able to search for specific content in a web clipping or a specific item in a scanned receipt.

To make sure an image can be searched, just add it to a notebook saved on OneDrive. Once it’s indexed, you’ll be able to search for it from any OneNote client.

There are surprisingly many (19!) ways to add tasks in Todoist. Here you will get a detailed overview of all of them.

Todoist and Siri and Shortcuts for iOS14 - help? I have a shortcut that runs every morning when I get up, which currently just shows a note I have in the default iOS Notes app. I figured there’s probably better support elsewhere in other apps, because what I want the shortcut to do is to read out one “most important” task to me, out. The same natural language magic of Todoist can be applied to voice assistants like Siri and Alexa. This might be a safer option when jaywalking across Canal street. Simply state, “add feed the dog to Todoist,” or perhaps, “remind me to read The Onion at 9:15 am in Todoist.”.

The ability to quickly add a task to your task manager is vital for ensuring what David Allen refers to as “one trusted system.” The fact that you quickly can add a task or idea in almost any situation is one of the reasons why I like Todoist.

You can add tasks in Todoist using the keyboard on your phone or computer. With the help of Google Assistant, Alexa, or Siri you can use your voice to add tasks. You can also add tasks by email or automate the process using IFTTT.

Typing in tasks in Todoist

Whether you are using the web version, the Windows 10 app, or the Mac version, you can start by clicking on the Add Task link. Then you can type in whatever you want in the task window. By clicking on the different icons in the bottom right corner, you can add or select project, label, reminder, priority, and comment.

Using the keyboard shortcut

In Todoist, hitting the Q button on your keyboard will automatically bring up the Quick Add Task window. This is a free-floating window with the same design as the Add Task window.

How to add tasks in Todoist using only the keyboard

In either one of these windows, it is possible to add a task, with a project, label, priority, and date – all without using the mouse. Here is how:

Hit Q on your keyboard to bring up the window.

Type in the task.

Hit the space-key, after that #. This brings up your project list.

Start typing the project name until the project you want shows up.

If needed, use the arrow keys to set the focus on the correct project.

Hit Enter to select a project.

If you are using a shared project, and want to assign the task to a project member, hit the + sign.

Select the person, and hit Enter.

Hit the space-key, after that @. This brings up a list of your labels.

Select in the same manner as with projects.

If you want to add a priority, hit the space-key, after that P.

Type in priority between 1 and 3.

To add a date, hit the space-key, after that type the date or day. See below, for details on dates.

Adding dates

Todoist understands natural language when it comes to days, months, etc. For adding a specific date, type in the date in your preferred format or use the calendar to select a date.

The really neat thing is that you can type in all of this in the task field, without having to use your mouse.

Adding comments

A thing I find a bit annoying is that if you want to add more than one comment, or if you want to add attachments or emails, you will not get the functionality needed for this by using the comment function from Add Task windows.

The workaround here is to set the date to today’s date (Today.) Then you add the comments, files, or emails, and then change the date to the date that you want this task to be done.

Emailing tasks to a project in Todoist

You can email a task to any project in Todoist, including your inbox. This is done using the unique email address associated with each project. You can find this address by clicking on the Project Actions icon and then selecting Email tasks to this project.

Adding emails from Outlook

Using the Todoist Outlook add-in, you can easily add emails as an attachment or as a task. What is outstanding with this add-in is that the email keeps the connection to Outlook, making it possible to open the email directly from the Todoist Outlook add-in.

Add the email itself as a task

Click on the email in Outlook.

With the email in focus, click on the + in the Todoist Outlook add-in.

Click on the Add email as task link at the bottom of the Quick Add Task window.

Add project, label, priority, and date as needed.

Add tasks in Todoist using Google Assistant

Using Google Assistant, you can add tasks by following these steps:

a. Say “OK Google, let me talk to Todoist.” or b. Long press the Home button on your phone and say “Let me talk to Todoist.”

Say “Add a task Buy cat food.”

After adding the task, the Todoist assistant will inform you that “The task has been added. Any changes?” At this point, you can move it to a project, add a label or set the task’s priority.

You can move it to a project such as “Shopping” by saying:

“Move it to shopping.“

“Move to shopping.“

“Project shopping.”

You can add a label to the task, such as “Important”:

What is the easiest way to add multiple tasks to Todoist? Use a text editor.

Start by making a list in your favorite text editor. It can be Word, TextPad, Evernote, or any other application.

Make a list with each task on a separate line. Use a hard return (Enter).

Copy the text.

Click + Add Task in Todoist. You then get a question, “Do you want to add X tasks?”

Answer “Yes.” (If you answer “No” the text will be pasted as a continuous text in a single task.)

If I have an unanswered phone call, the task of calling back the given number is created in the Todoist inbox.

In iOS 11 you can now add tasks to the fantastic Todoist app. All you need to do is activate Siri and tell her/him/it the task and a due date and it will be added directly to the app. Only works with iOS 11+.

Also if you want to know what tasks you have planned for the day just activate Siri and say 'all tasks in Todoist due today'

If you have tasks that are labelled then you can ask Siri to show you all the tasks that come under that label. So if you have anything labelled work just say 'show me my work list in Todoist'

To get Siri to work with iOS 11 you must first set it up doing the following:

Select Settings on your iPhone/iPad home screen

Select Siri & Search

Scroll down until you see Todoist and select it

Select Use with Siri

Siri is now ready to interact with Todoist
