i genuinely think it's good characterization that Kris is like, so bad at keeping us and susie away from secrets the first time it really comes up. like, they're a deeply exhausted teen who's increasingly ambivalent about the whole thing and who probably previously has been able to get away with a lot only because people don't pay much attention to them. of course they throw the soul in an open box and wander off to chug chocolate milk and play the piano. of course a net slams into their head while they're trying to sneak behind their two friends who are Right There. of course they end up in a closet frantically trying to keep the soul away from turning on mechanical Santas. of course Susie just kinda grabs the guitar from them and walks off. they're not a super spy or double agent or whatever they're a tired kid who wants chocolate milk

I went to this Northwest Passage museum once where they had the white explorers' journals on one side of the exhibit and the native people's accounts on the other side of the exhibit and the explorer journals were like "our canoe had almost sunk when we encountered some kindly Indians" and the native histories were like "we watched a bunch of strangers come down the river in the shittiest canoe you'd ever seen. Also, they had no rain gear"
