I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"

I'm so tired of people who aren't directly impacted by things, not understanding how scary it is for trans people right now. I have a dance friend who is very much in her own little white, cis, straight, nuerotypical world. I'm trans in Texas/the US.

I was telling her about a new hobby, and she says "well I'm glad you're not talking about leaving the country anymore"

Me: oh that's still very much on the table

Her: no! I don't want you to leave!

Me: I might not have a choice. I might have to flee the country at some point

Her, laughing a little like it's a silly exaggeration: well not flee. Like you're some kind of fugitive

Me: yes, flee. It could get to that point

Her: I'm sure it will be fine. I'm sorry, I'm just trying to think positively.

Me: and i have to think practically. It might not come to that. But I have to be prepared if it does

I'm just so tired of these kinds of conversations. Because yeah, having to flee the country as a fugitive just because I've transitioned enough I'm screwed either way if certain laws get passed is extreme. It's a ridiculous notion. But so is so much of what's already happened. I don't have the luxury of saying "Oh ill never need to flee" because this country, and many others, have proven over and over that you can be criminalized just for existing in the "wrong" way. I'm tired of people acting like I'm being silly or paranoid for worrying about that. I'm just so, so tired.
