Maybe the Revival Of The Fox era was… uncalled for… or maybe too soon…

It’s time you knew the outcomes of us, The Fox Sisters…

Kate Fox-Jencken began her antics in the Hydesville farmhouse at 11 years old. She has since toured with Margaret and I for years, beginning in New York and reaching across the country. Later, after troubles among us sisters, Kate married the British scholar and spiritualist Henry D. Jencken, and moved to Great Britain. There, she continued a solo career in seances, featuring rappings, apparitions, music, and spiritual transcriptions. Her methods still puzzle modern historians. Before long, she fell to alcoholism, and her children were taken from her. She preceded her husband in death, in 1893.

Margaret truly had a tragic tale. She was the most guilty of us when it came to our seances… at one point she stopped completely. Poverty never allowed us to break though… Maggie had a strained long-distance relationship with her common-law husband and explorer, Elisha Kent Kane. Kane and his family wouldn’t accept her as a medium, fearing the credibility of the Kane family status. He suddenly died on an expedition, leaving Margaret heart broken. Despite claiming to their marriage, it was hardly recognized. The Kane family forebode Maggie from attending her husbands funeral, and she never got her promise of his estate. She then published The Love Life of Dr. Kane, containing the exchanged love letters of the two. Her tragedies pushed her too toward alcoholism. Later, she confessed to our hoaxes in the memoir, The Death Blow to Spiritualism. Spiritualists at the time condemned her as a liar and a drunk, desperate for money and attention. She died impoverished in 1893.

And me? Leah? The manager, the entrepreneur… Just a three-times divorcee and widow, with three children. It wasn’t easy to be a single mother… I seized this opportunity to build a life for my family and I. Yet we each met a similar fate. I died in 1890, my sisterly conflicts still unresolved.

Despite our deaths, the movement of spiritualism marched onward, and has still established a presence today in modern religion practices. Consider it a crime, if you will. We consider it our mark on this earth, starting from a dull prank…

We must address the matter of spiritualism, and the alleged fraud crimes surrounding our affects on society and its people…

I must pose to the audience, who are we to condemn? How are we to condemn? Can we even muster the arrogance to blame, to guilt, to throw tomatoes at one another?

First, how are we to incriminate the spirits in which we so lovingly contact and serve? They wish to speak to you, their restless souls, as much as you wish to speak to them! How else could we establish such a transcendental bond with them? Kate and Margaret enter their trances in front of the audiences with ONLY the purest of hearts, to communicate with the souls not to be incriminated, but to be welcomed into your lives! We do not lie, but we speak their tongue. Or better yet, we let them speak for you, interpreting their mysterious languages. Dare you to temper with the dead, let alone label them as criminals?

Secondly, who must ye be to turn to your neighbor, to your fellow audience member, to your loved ones and consider them liars? Heretics? Don’t underestimate your own curiosity… to each of our audiences, we understand there MUST be a soul, a spirit, an apparition you wish to reconnect with. A mother? A father? A child? A lover? Can you each look toward each other and claim pathetic desperation when you yourself wish to see and hear those in the next life? You are valued by us, The Fox Sisters, AND by the spirits which are enthused to show themselves again. We urge you to value one another.

And us, The Fox Sisters. We are women of dedication and service. Despite the accusations of fraud, could you point a disapproving finger and allow yourself to preach justice? Our seances generate enough income to stabilize and outing ourselves, to continue providing our services. The ticket prices have increased since our debut in the late 1800’s, but so has the economy! We do not give false hope for fortune, we instead use our gifts for the people.

Of course, we acknowledge that our actions have sparked the beginning of what must be called “spiritualism.” More of the gifted have come forward! However, don’t confuse yourselves or be fooled by any Theresa Caputo OR Long Island Resident. In fact, be weary of those claiming to be gifted… they know not the disrespect they cause nor the discontent waiting for them in the next life… Trust us, The Fox Sisters, and reach out! Law and Order has little grasp around the hands and necks of the dead, and those that contact them.

Alas, we must look back upon our humble beginnings at our home in Hydesville, New York, before the many contacted souls and many appeased guests. Just look at this quaint little farmhouse, where the Foxes first learned of their incredible gifts. Legend has it that my younger sisters, Kate (11) and Maggie (15) were simply pulling a prank on our mother! Once I heard of the uprise surrounding my family home, I immediately had to see the rappings and odd noises for myself! Sure enough, my sisters were able to connect with Mr. Split-Foot, a restless spirit trapped within the floors at the little house. When prompted with questions, a yes was followed by one, ghastly “thud,” while a no was followed by two “thuds.” To say the least, I was as astonished as Ma, Pa, and the rest of the neighborhood!

The phenomenon of the Fox Home and my sisters’ communication skills reached further than anyone anticipated. Of course, who wouldn’t want to meet the girls that can talk to the passed. Especially those passed who wish to talk to you.

My sisters’ names and reputations were reaching ear and tongue as far as the Appalachians and the cities of the north. That’s how I caught wind myself.

Nowadays, a rumor has sprouted about my sisters using the joints in their toes to make such noises. Nonsense! How could a young girl hold her feet perfectly still while creating a sound as loud and ghostly enough to wake a sleeping man? The art would need to be absolutely perfected…

Rumors have also surfaced claiming that we tied apples to gently knock on the wood in our home. How bold of you to assume we could afford to toy with such a lavish resource, our food, in such a time of struggle? Of course, I wasn’t there myself… I, Leah, found myself upstate recovering from a broken heart… but I had my own share of troubles. Ma and Pa weren’t well off either…

I knew with my sisters’ capabilities, this gift must be utilized! I moved my sisters and I to New York City as quickly as I could. With an inexplicable gift and an American dream, we began our public debut! Contacting the other worldly is no-easy feat, so of course our services require a… small fee. Since our return, I have gotten MULTIPLE recommendations that I appear to resemble this… rather popular women. Apparently her name is Kathy Bates, and she makes her debuts on a little box with pictures in it. The Fox Sisters INSIST upon providing an authentic experience!
