Even though the dawning of the PlayStation 5 era is approaching sooner each day, innovations are still happening for the PlayStation 4 and its accessories. Just recently, Sony released their DualShock Back Button attachment, which adds two programmable buttons to an existing DualShock 4 controller. At $29.99, this has been a big hit, making it hard for retailers to keep them on the shelves. However, this falls short in the realm of modding and customization. Which is where third parties come in. One of those third parties is Mega Modz.
Mega Modz dedicate themselves to customer service, their technology, and giving the consumer the ability to create what they want. Encapsulating all of those concepts, they have just released their Macro controller for the PS4. With their experience and expertise from previous models, they are aiming for new heights with the Macro. Taking the controller for a test drive, here’s what we have to say about it.
Simply put, the Macro is a controller that can easily be modified (commonly referred to as modded) without any additional hardware or software. This is a huge plus for people that aren’t savvy with programming, don’t like reading through tons of text, and want to just jump in and reap the benefits. Said programming benefits include: Rapid Fire, Auto Burst, Dual Trigger Rapid Fire, Sniper Breath, Auto Sprint, and Auto Heal. Obviously, these are huge benefits to players that play shooters, but they can provide benefits to other genres as well.
Those features refer to the inner workings of the controller, but there are visual and tangible differences from a standard DualShock 4 controller as well. There’s a small red button and two medium sized “macro” buttons on the back of the controller. There are also four LED lights on the bottom. All these transformations take place on Sony’s standard first party controller. This makes transitioning to the controller easy, due to its familiarity. By pressing these additional buttons and following along with the LED lights as a visual marker, mapping and remapping couldn’t be much easier.
However, there are some issues that are hard to ignore. The major one is the price tag. Currently priced at $139.99, it makes selling it to casual gamers and those on a budget pretty tough. Despite this, it’s still one of the cheaper options for PS4 controller mods. There’s also lesser issues, such as some third party charging cables not being compatible with the controller. This leaves certain unfortunate souls with their original short charging cable as the only option. Even though the macro button locations are as inconspicuous as possible, they’re where your hands naturally wrap around the controller. Because of this, an intuitive grip is taken away and replaced with an altered one.
Luckily, there are some things that mitigate the issues with the controller. For example, Mega Modz support team is incredible. They respond very quickly and efficiently. A thorough manual is also provided with the controller, providing those who take a little bit of time to read it with thorough guidelines and insight. And on top of great customization with the mapping of the controller and its functions, there are several controller designs that range from gorgeous, to unique, to comical.
Ps4 Macro Mac Download
Even if the Macro controller and its price tag aren’t for everyone, it’s an excellent controller. The team at Mega Modz have expertly tweaked a well established product to give users more freedom and control. If you’re looking for a boost to your online play, your trophy count, or unique designs, then look no further.
Ps4 Macro Mac Games
Final Score: 8.5 out of 10

10 Ways to Boost Your Wi-Fi Signal. Check out these quick tips to boost your wireless signal from your router, extend and optimize your Wi-Fi coverage, and speed up your surfing.
Introduction
This document covers the basics of how wireless technology works, and how it is used to create networks. Wireless technology is used in many types of communication. We use it for networking because it is cheaper and more flexible than running cables. While wireless networks can be just as fast and powerful as wired networks, they do have some drawbacks.
Reading and working through Learn Networking Basics before this document will help you with some of the concepts used in wireless networks.
In addition to some background information, this document covers six basic concepts:
Wireless signals - what they are and how signals can differ.
Wireless devices - the differences and uses for receivers and transmitters.
Wi-Fi Modes - how networks are made up of clients, access points, or ad-hoc devices.
Wi-Fi Signals - the unique characteristics of Wi-Fi, and how signals are organized.
Power and Receiver sensitivity - how far each wireless device can go, and how well a router can listen and filter out interference and noise.
Antennas - how the type of antenna changes the way the router broadcasts.
Reading through this material should take about an hour. Working through the activities, or diving deeper into the subject with a group may take longer.
What is a wireless signal?
Wireless signals are important because they can transfer information -- audio, video, our voices, data -- without the use of wires, and that makes them very useful.
Wireless signals are electromagnetic waves travelling through the air. These are formed when electric energy travels through a piece of metal -- for example a wire or antenna -- and waves are formed around that piece of metal. These waves can travel some distance depending on the strength of that energy.
For more on how electromagnetic signals work, check the #External Resources section at the end of this document.
Types of Wireless Signals
There are many, many types of wireless technologies. You may be familiar with AM and FM radio, Television, Cellular phones, Wi-Fi, Satellite signals such as GPS and television, two-way radio, and Bluetooth. These are some of the most common signals, but what makes them different?
Frequency
First of all, wireless signals occupy a spectrum, or wide range, of frequencies: the rate at which a signal vibrates. If the signal vibrates very slowly, it has a low frequency. If the signal vibrates very quickly, it has a high frequency. Frequency is measured in Hertz, which is the count of how quickly a signal changes every second. As an example, FM radio signals vibrate around 100 million times every second! Since communications signals are often very high in frequency, we abbreviate the measurements for the frequencies - millions of vibrations a second is Megahertz (MHz), and billions of vibrations a second is Gigahertz (GHz). One thousand Megahertz is one Gigahertz.
Example Frequency Ranges
Below we can see the span of frequencies that are commonly used in communications. Broadcast transmitters for AM, FM and Television use frequencies below 1000 MHz, Wi-Fi uses two bands at higher frequencies - 2.4 and 5GHz. Cellular phones use many different frequencies.
The frequencies from left to right:
AM Radio: Around 10MHz
FM Radio: Around 100MHz
Television: Many frequencies from 470MHz to 800MHz, and others.
Cellular phones: 850MHz, 1900MHz, and others
Wi-Fi: 2.4GHz
Satellite: 3.5GHz
Wi-Fi: 5GHz
Modulation
In addition to having different frequencies, wireless signals can be different in the way they convey information. A wireless signal needs to be modulated--or changed--to send information. There are many types of modulation, and different technologies can use one or more types to send and receive information. In the two examples below -- AM and FM radio -- the M stands for modulation. The type of modulation is what makes them different.
Example one: AM radio. The A in AM comes from Amplitude - the energy or strength of the signal, operating at a single frequency. An un-modulated AM wave might look like:
And a modulated AM radio wave has higher and lower energy (amplitude) waves indicating higher and lower audio frequencies in the signal:
From left to right, we have the normal, un-modulated wave, then the lower amplitude wave (representing low points in audio waves), then the higher amplitude wave (representing crests or high points in audio waves).
A more detailed version of an AM signal is below:
The audio signal is the wave on the top, with the corresponding Amplitude Modulated wave below it.
Example two: FM radio. The F in FM comes from Frequency - defined by how quickly the wave vibrates every second. An un-modulated FM wave might look like:
And a modulated FM radio wave has higher and lower frequencies indicating higher and lower audio frequencies in the signal:
From left to right, we have the normal, un-modulated wave, then the lower frequency wave (representing lower audio amplitudes), then the higher frequency wave (representing higher audio amplitudes).
The type of modulation various technologies use to communicate can be very different, and are often not compatible. Satellite equipment cannot speak directly to your laptop or smartphone, which uses Wi-Fi to send and receive information. This is because the radios in different devices can listen only to certain types of modulations and frequencies.
As an example, some broadcast radio receivers have a switch to select between AM and FM signals, for two reasons: they use different frequencies to transmit, and they use different modulation types. If you try and listen to an AM signal with a radio in FM mode, it won’t work. The opposite is also true - in AM mode, an FM signal doesn’t make sense to the receiver. It is important that transmitters and receivers use the same frequencies and modulation types to communicate.
Devices in your daily life use many types of wireless signals. Look at the table below to see the various frequencies and types of modulation each uses:
Technology or deviceType of wireless signal
Analog video - Amplitude modulated from 50MHz to 800MHz
Digital video - complex modulation from 200MHz to 800MHz
Voice - analog or digital modulation from 800MHz to 900MHz
3G, 4G or LTE - digital modulation from 1700MHz to 1900MHz and others
Bluetooth - digital modulation at 2400MHz
Walkie-talkie / two-way radio - analog AM, FM or digital modulation over many frequencies
Many types of signals - voice, audio, video, data
Many modulation types - analog and digital
Many, many frequencies - 3400MHz, 5900MHz, 10.7GHz, 14.5GHz, 23GHz, and many others.
Wi-Fi - digital modulation at 2400MHz or 5000 to 5800MHz.
Bluetooth - digital modulation at 2400MHz
AM Radio - AM modulation from 0.6MHz to 1.6MHz
FM Radio - FM modulation from 88MHz to 108MHz
Nearly every device or technology uses a different wireless frequency and modulation. This means most devices can only understand a very specific kind of wireless signal.
Receivers and Transmitters
When a device sends out a wireless signal, it is called a transmitter. When another device picks up that wireless signal and understands the information, it is called a receiver. In the case of FM radio, there is one transmitter--owned and operated by the radio station--and many receivers that people listen to the station with. When a device has both a transmitter and a receiver, it is sometimes called a transceiver. Devices such as routers can both transmit and receive, which is what makes them useful for building networks--you probably want to be able to send messages to your neighbors and out to the world, as well as receive messages!
Quick Activity: What devices do you own or use frequently that are transmitters, receivers or transceivers? Fill in some examples below each type:
TransmitterReceiverTransceiverExamples: Examples: Examples:
Do you use more transmitters, receivers, or transceivers throughout the day? What is different about the way you use each of these?
Wi-Fi Signals
When building a network, you will be using Wi-Fi technology, which has some unique characteristics you will need to know.
There are two types of Wi-Fi signal, based on the frequencies they use:
2.4GHz - A lower frequency, this is the more common Wi-Fi technology in use today. Many devices use it, so the signals can become more crowded and interfere with each other. It can pass through walls and windows fairly well.
5GHz - This higher frequency technology is used by fewer devices, and can sometimes achieve higher speeds because the frequencies are less crowded. It cannot pass through walls and windows as well as the 2.4GHz band signals, so the range of 5GHz technology is often shorter.
These two types of Wi-Fi are called the Frequency Bands, or just Bands for short.
Each frequency band used in Wi-Fi is divided up into multiple 'channels'. Each channel is similar to rooms at a party - if one room is crowded it is hard to carry on a conversation. You can move to the next room, but that might get crowded as well. As soon as the building is full, it becomes difficult to carry on a conversation at the party.
2.4GHz Band For the 2.4GHz band, there are 14 channels total. Unfortunately, these channels overlap, so they aren’t all usable at the same time. If you are setting up a mesh network -- all of the mesh links will need to be on the same channel.
The available channels vary depending on where you are in the world. For example, in the United States channels 12, 13 and 14 are not allowed for Wi-Fi, as those frequencies are used by TV and satellite services. If you are building networks in the United States, you can only use channels 1 through 11. In the rest of the world, channels 1 through 13 are generally usable, and in a few places channel 14 is available.
Despite that, the best channels in the United States and most of the world to use for 2.4GHz band equipment are channels 1, 6, and 11. This will minimize interference caused by partially overlapping Wi-Fi signals:
You could use other sets of Wi-Fi channels, as long as they are 5 channels apart - for instance 3, 8 and 13. This may not be optimal though, as channels 1 and 2 would be unused, and in many places in the world channel 13 is not available. Wherever you are, try and check what channels are most in use, and plan your network to use a channel that doesn't overlap.
5GHz Band The 5GHz frequency band is much wider and has more channels, so the diagram is a bit more extensive. Fortunately, these channels do not overlap, so you don’t have to worry about picking non-standard channels like in the 2.4GHz band.
There are many more channels available in the 5GHz band, so it should be easier to select a channel in this band that doesn’t cause interference. This may not always be true -- more and more wireless equipment is starting to use the 5GHz
In the United States, only channels available for building mesh networks are 36, 40, 44, 48, 149, 153, 157, 161, and 165. There are other channels available for Access Points or other types of community networks, but those channels won’t work with mesh wireless. The best place to check what is allowed in your area is online. Links are provided in External Resources at the end of this document.
When setting up your wireless network, you will need to think about what frequency band to use, and what channel to use.
Power and Receiver Sensitivity
Many people want to know how far wireless signals will go. Knowing this is important for planning a network, as the power of the routers will affect the design of the network, and how much equipment is needed.
Different Wi-Fi routers can have very different power levels. Some are much stronger: they have more speaking or transmitting power than others. Some are very good listeners: they have what is called a better receive sensitivity. These two elements define how well wireless devices will connect, and how far away a receiving Wi-Fi router can be.
Manufacturers do not usually publish information about their router’s transmit power or receive sensitivity. Instead, the manufacturer will give a generic “range” rating to their routers, usually relative to each other. In some cases, usually with more business or professional oriented equipment you can find the information for transmit power and receive sensitivity.
A router’s transmit power can be measured with two scales -- milliwatts (mW) or dBm:
A milliwatt is one thousandth (that’s 1/1000) of a single watt - which is a generic measurement of power. For instance, a light bulb might be 40 watts. A router will have an output power of 100mW, which is 400 times less!
A dBm is a relative measurement using logarithms. One milliwatt is 0 dBm. 10 milliwatts is 10 dBm; 100 milliwatts is 20 dBm, and so on. This is the scale that many network designers use to calculate if longer wireless links will work.
A few examples of the transmit power levels in common Wi-Fi hardware is below:
10mW (10dBm): Laptop or smartphone, or very low cost Wi-Fi router. About 25 to 50 meters
100mW (20dBm): Indoor home or office router. About 50 to 100 meters
100mW (20dBm): Outdoor sector router. About 5 to 10 kilometers
500mW (1/2 Watt or 27dBm): Outdoor, long distance focused routers. About 10 to 20 kilometers or more
Wireless transmitter power is only one half of the connection. The Wi-Fi receiver has a range of power levels it can hear--the “listen power” in the diagram above. This is also known as the receive sensitivity. The receive sensitivity values are generally rated in dBm, and are usually in the range of -40dBm to -80dBm. The negative number indicates a very small signal -- tiny fractions of a milliwatt.
Tumblr media
Below we have an example of two routers in relatively close range. They have a good connection because the signal strength between them is strong.
As a receiver moves away from a wireless router, the signal it hears will get “quieter” -- in other words, the power it receives will go down. Below, we can see the same routers, but with more distance between them. In this case, the routers have a weaker connection because the signal is near the limit of what the routers can hear. The speed between the routers will be less.
If the router moves too far away from the transmitter, it won’t be able to receive any signal, either due to the signal being too weak or other signals interfering, and the routers will disconnect. Below we can see the two routers have disconnected, as there isn’t enough signal.
The optimal signal range for outdoor wireless equipment is between -40dBm and -60dBm. This will ensure the connection can maintain the highest bandwidth possible.
Antennas
Wireless routers have different types of antennas. Some routers will have antennas built in, and sometimes the routers will have a choice of antenna you can attach to the router. There are many specific types of antennas, but three basic types are used most of the time, and will be useful in building a wireless network. The first type of antenna is also the most common--omnidirectional.
Omnidirectional Antennas
An omnidirectional antenna sends a signal out equally in all directions around it.
Using omnidirectional antennas has the benefit of creating connections in any direction. You don’t have to do as much planning to connect with multiple neighbors or buildings. If there is enough signal between nodes, they should connect.
The all-direction strength of these antennas comes with the drawback of transmitting a weaker signal. Since the signal is going in all directions, it spreads out and gets weaker with distance very fast. If nodes or clients are far away, they may not connect well.
Also, if there are only nodes or clients in one direction of the router, then the signals going in the opposite direction are wasted:
Directional Antennas
The next type of antenna is known as directional--it sends out a signal in a more focused way. There are two main types of directional antennas:
Sector Antenna Focused Antenna Sector antennas send out a pie-shaped wedge of signal - it can be anywhere between 30 degrees and 120 degrees wide. These are often long, rectangular antennas that are separate or integrated in to a router. A focused antenna sends out a narrow beam of signal - it is normally around 5 to 10 degrees wide, but it can be a little wider as well. These are often dishes or have a mesh bowl reflecting signal behind them.
Using directional antennas has the benefit of increasing the distance a signal will travel in one direction, while reducing it in all other directions. Since the signal is all going one way, the power that would be sent out in all directions with omnidirectional nodes is now focused, increasing the power in that direction.
It can also decrease the interference received at the node. There are fewer signals coming in to the antenna, since the node is only listening to signals from the direction it is pointing. It won’t hear signals behind it or to the sides as well or at all. This reduces the signals it needs to sort out, and allows it to focus on other signals more, increasing the quality of those connections.
However, directional antennas also have the drawback of requiring more planning to create links in your neighborhood. Since you are defining and limiting the areas where wireless signals go, you need to think about how those signals cover your neighborhood. If there are areas that are then left out, how will those areas be included in the network?

Also, the node has a very powerful signal in a single direction. If omnidirectional units, or lower power units such as laptops, are connecting to the node, they may not connect properly. The laptop will hear the node very well, but the directional node may not hear the laptop. This will create the situation where it looks like there is a strong signal, but you cannot connect.

Definitions
Omnidirectional
When a node has an omnidirectional antenna attached, it can send and receive wireless signals in all directions around it equally. The signal is actually strongest out to the “sides” of the antenna. Very little or no signal comes out of the “ends” of the antenna.
Directional antenna
When a node has a directional antenna attached, the wireless signal is very strong in one direction, and has a very weak or no signal in every other direction. This generally forms a cone or wedge shaped area from the front of the antenna.
Receive sensitivity
The minimum level of a received signal required for a device to understand the signal.
Access point
A device that allows wireless devices to connect to a wired network using Wi-Fi.
Watt
A unit of power, usually written “W”. The most common power levels for Wi-Fi devices are in the range of milliwatts - or thousandths of a watt.
dBm
An abbreviation for the power ratio in decibels (dB) of the power referenced to one milliwatt (mW). 0 dBm is equal to 1 milliwatt.

Talking about 'good signal strength' may have become part of everyday language, but what constitutes a good Wi-Fi signal, really? Do you know what it takes to be able to use demanding services like Netflix and videoconferencing over Wi-Fi?
Signal strength is measured in dBm or decibel milliwatts, which, somewhat confusingly, is expressed only in negative values (with a minus sign in front).
So what are the good and acceptable dBm values for wireless internet?
Here is what the Wi-Fi signal strength values mean
How to measure the received signal strength
To measure signal strength at a given location and time, you can use a Wi-Fi scanner. You can read more about this in our article How to find good Wi-Fi channels and bad neighbors.
The measurement you are looking for is RSSI, which is short for received signal strength indicator.
If you are running Mac OS X, you can also measure the received signal strength directly without installing anything: Hold down the Altkey and click the Wi-Fi icon in the top menu, and details of communication with the wireless access point will appear under the name of the active Wi-Fi network.
If you would like to map out the signal for an entire home, we recommend using a heat mapper to create a heat map of good and bad coverage zones. See also: Map your wireless network with a heat mapper.
Poor signal strength? Remove obstacles
Have you done your testing and concluded that the signal strength is insufficient? Clamxav vs malwarebytes. First of all:
Don't be tempted to try to amplify the transmit strength from your router / access point. You may sabotage both yourself and your neighbors in the process, and you risk breaking the law along the way. Read more about this in Don't. Boost. Your Wi-Fi Signal.
Of course, the performance and capacity of the wireless network depends on more than the signal emitted from the access point, but the most important thing you can do for the signal is:
Move the router or other access point high up and in front of any obstacles. Preferably high up on the wall.
Place your devices and access points with as much of a clear line of sight between them as possible.

What is a pacemaker insertion?
A pacemaker is a small device that's placed under the skin in your chest to help control your heartbeat. It's used to help your heart beat more regularly if you have an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), particularly a slow one. Implanting a pacemaker in your chest requires a surgical procedure. A pacemaker is a small device that is implanted under the skin or chest muscle near the collarbone. It is connected to the heart with one or two electrodes (also called “leads”) and serves as the heart’s artificial “timekeeper.”.
A pacemaker insertion is the implantation of a small electronic device that is usually placed in the chest (just below the collarbone) to help regulate slow electrical problems with the heart. A pacemaker may be recommended toensure that the heartbeat does not slow to a dangerously low rate.
The heart's electrical system
The heart is basically a pump made up of muscle tissue that is stimulated by electrical currents, which normally follow a specific circuit within the heart.
This normal electrical circuit begins in the sinus or sinoatrial (SA) node, which is a small mass of specialized tissue located in the right atrium(upper chamber) of the heart. The SA node generates an electrical stimulus at 60 to 100 times per minute (for adults) under normal conditions; this electrical impulse from the SA node starts the heartbeat.
The electrical impulse travels from the SA node via the atria to the atrioventricular (AV) node in the bottom of the right atrium. From there the impulse continues down an electrical conduction pathway called the Bundle of His and then on through the 'His-Purkinje' system into the ventricles (lower chambers) of the heart. When the electrical stimulus occurs it causes the muscle to contract and pump blood to the rest of the body. This process of electrical stimulation followed by muscle contraction is what makes the heart beat.
A pacemaker may be needed when problems occur with the electrical conduction system of the heart. When the timing of the electrical stimulation of the heart to the heart muscle and the subsequent response of the heart's pumping chambers is altered, a pacemaker may help.
What is a pacemaker?
A pacemaker is composed of three parts: a pulse generator, one or more leads, and an electrode on each lead. A pacemaker signals the heart to beat when the heartbeat is too slow or irregular.
A pulse generator is a small metal case that contains electronic circuitry with a small computer and a battery that regulate the impulses sent to the heart.
The lead (or leads) is an insulated wire that is connected to the pulsegenerator on one end, with the other end placed inside one of the heart'schambers. The lead is almost always placed so that it runs through a largevein in the chest leading directly to the heart. The electrode on the endof a lead touches the heart wall. The lead delivers the electrical impulsesto the heart. It also senses the heart's electrical activity and relaysthis information back to the pulse generator. Pacemaker leads may bepositioned in the atrium (upper chamber) or ventricle (lower chamber) orboth, depending on the medical condition.
If the heart's rate is slower than the programmed limit, an electricalimpulse is sent through the lead to the electrode and causes the heart tobeat at a faster rate.
When the heart beats at a rate faster than the programmed limit, thepacemaker generally monitors the heart rate and will not pace. Modernpacemakers are programmed to work on demand only, so they do not competewith natural heartbeats. Generally, no electrical impulses will be sent tothe heart unless the heart's natural rate falls below the pacemaker's lowerlimit.
A newer type of pacemaker, called a biventricular pacemaker, is currentlyused in the treatment of specific types of heart failure. Sometimes inheart failure, the two ventricles do not pump in a normal manner.Ventricular dyssynchrony is a common term used to describe this abnormalpumping pattern. When this happens, less blood is pumped by the heart. Abiventricular pacemaker paces both ventricles at the same time, increasingthe amount of blood pumped by the heart. This type of treatment is calledcardiac resynchronization therapy or CRT.
After a pacemaker insertion, regularly scheduled appointments will be madeto ensure the pacemaker is functioning properly. The doctor uses a specialcomputer, called a programmer, to review the pacemaker's activity andadjust the settings when needed.
Other related procedures that may be used to assess the heart includeresting and exerciseelectrocardiogram (ECG), Holter monitor, signal-averaged ECG,cardiac catheterization, chest X-ray,computed tomography (CT scan) of the chest, echocardiography, electrophysiology studies, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the heart, myocardial perfusion scan (stress),myocardial perfusion scan (resting),radionuclide angiography, andcardiac CT scan. Please see these procedures for additional information. Note thatalthough an MRI is a very safe procedure, the magnetic fields used by theMRI scanner may interfere with the pacemaker's function. Any patient with apacemaker should always speak with his or her cardiologist beforeundergoing an MRI.
Reasons for the procedure
A pacemaker may be inserted in order to stimulate a faster heart rate whenthe heart is beating too slowly, and causing problems that cannot otherwisebe corrected.
Problems with the heart rhythm may cause difficulties because the heart isunable to pump an adequate amount of blood to the body. If the heart rateis too slow, the blood is pumped too slowly. If the heart rate is too fastor too irregular, the heart chambers are unable to fill up with enoughblood to pump out with each beat. When the body does not receive enoughblood, symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, fainting, and/or chest pain mayoccur.
Some examples of heart rate and rhythm problems for which a pacemaker mightbe inserted include:
Bradycardia. This occurs when the sinus node causes the heart to beat too slowly.
Tachy-brady syndrome. This is characterized by alternating fast and slow heartbeats.
Heart block. This occurs when the electrical signal is delayed or blocked after leaving the SA node; there are several types of heart blocks.
There may be other reasons for your doctor to recommend a pacemakerinsertion.
Risks of the procedure
Possible risks of pacemaker include, but are not limited to, the following:
Bleeding from the incision or catheter insertion site
Damage to the vessel at the catheter insertion site
Infection of the incision or catheter site
Pneumothorax. If the nearby lung is inadvertently punctured during the procedure, leaking air becomes trapped in the pleural space (outside the lung but within the chest wall); this can cause breathing difficulties and in extreme cases may cause the lung to collapse.
If you are pregnant or suspect that you may be pregnant, you should notifyyour health care provider. If you are breastfeeding, you should notify yourhealth care provider.
Patients who are allergic to or sensitive to medications or latex shouldnotify their doctor.
For some patients, having to lie still on the procedure table for thelength of the procedure may cause some discomfort or pain.
There may be other risks depending on your specific medical condition. Besure to discuss any concerns with your doctor prior to the procedure.
Before the procedure
Your doctor will explain the procedure to you and offer you the opportunityto ask any questions that you might have about the procedure:
You will be asked to sign a consent form that gives your permission to do the test. Read the form carefully and ask questions if something is not clear.
Notify your doctor if you are sensitive to or are allergic to any medications, iodine, latex, tape, or anesthetic agents (local and general).
You will need to fast for a certain period of time prior to the procedure. Your doctor will notify you how long to fast, usually overnight.
If you are pregnant or suspect that you are pregnant, you should notify your doctor.
Notify your doctor of all medications (prescription and over-the-counter) and herbal or other supplements that you are taking.
Notify your doctor if you have heart valve disease, as you may need to receive an antibiotic prior to the procedure.
Notify your doctor if you have a history of bleeding disorders or if you are taking any anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medications, aspirin, or other medications that affect blood clotting. It may be necessary for you to stop some of these medications prior to the procedure.
Your doctor may request a blood test prior to the procedure to determine how long it takes your blood to clot. Other blood tests may be done as well.
You may receive a sedative prior to the procedure to help you relax. If a sedative is given and there is a possibility that you may be discharged, you will need someone to drive you home. You will likely spend at least one night in the hospital after the procedure for observation and to ensure the pacemaker functions properly.
Based on your medical condition, your doctor may request other specific preparation.
During the procedure
A pacemaker may be performed on an outpatient basis or as part of your stayin a hospital. Procedures may vary depending on your condition and yourdoctor's practices.
Generally, a pacemaker insertion follows this process:
You will be asked to remove any jewelry or other objects that may interfere with the procedure.
You will be asked to remove your clothing and will be given a gown to wear.
You will be asked to empty your bladder prior to the procedure.
If there is excessive hair at the incision site, it may be clipped off.
An intravenous (IV) line will be started in your hand or arm prior to the procedure for injection of medication and to administer IV fluids, if needed.
You will be placed on your back on the procedure table.
You will be connected to an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) monitor that records the electrical activity of the heart and monitors the heart during the procedure using small, adhesive electrodes. Your vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, and oxygenation level) will be monitored during the procedure.
Large electrode pads will be placed on the front and back of the chest.
You will receive a sedative medication in your IV before the procedure to help you relax. However, you will likely remain awake during the procedure.
The pacemaker insertion site will be cleansed with antiseptic soap.
Sterile towels and a sheet will be placed around this area.
A local anesthetic will be injected into the skin at the insertion site.
Once the anesthetic has taken effect, the physician will make a small incision at the insertion site.
A sheath, or introducer, is inserted into a blood vessel, usually under the collarbone. The sheath is a plastic tube through which the pacer lead wire will be inserted into the blood vessel and advanced into the heart.
It will be very important for you to remain still during the procedure so that the catheter does not move out of place and to prevent damage to the insertion site.
The lead wire will be inserted through the introducer into the blood vessel. The doctor will advance the lead wire through the blood vessel into the heart. https://foxtennessee59.tumblr.com/post/657253546235920384/protrader.
Once the lead wire is inside the heart, it will be tested to verify proper location and that it works. There may be one, two, or three lead wires inserted, depending on the type of device your doctor has chosen for your condition. Fluoroscopy, (a special type of X-ray that will be displayed on a TV monitor), may be used to assist in testing the location of the leads.
The pacemaker generator will be slipped under the skin through the incision (just below the collarbone) after the lead wire is attached to the generator. Generally, the generator will be placed on the nondominant side. (If you are right-handed, the device will be placed in your upper left chest. If you are left-handed, the device will be placed in your upper right chest).
The ECG will be observed to ensure that the pacer is working correctly.
The skin incision will be closed with sutures, adhesive strips, or a special glue.
A sterile bandage or dressing will be applied.
After the procedure
In the hospital
After the procedure, you may be taken to the recovery room for observationor returned to your hospital room. A nurse will monitor your vital signs.
Tumblr media
You should immediately inform your nurse if you feel any chest pain ortightness, or any other pain at the incision site.
After the period of bed rest has been completed, you may get out of bedwith assistance. The nurse will assist you the first time you get up, andwill check your blood pressure while you are lying in bed, sitting, andstanding. You should move slowly when getting up from the bed to avoid anydizziness from the period of bedrest.
You will be able to eat or drink once you are completely awake.
The insertion site may be sore or painful. Pain medication may beadministered if needed.
Your doctor will visit with you in your room while you are recovering. Thedoctor will give you specific instructions and answer any questions you mayhave.
Once your blood pressure, pulse, and breathing are stable and you arealert, you will be taken to your hospital room or discharged home.
Pacemaker Defibrillator
If the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, you may be allowed toleave after you have completed the recovery process. However, it is commonto spend at least one night in the hospital after pacemaker implantationfor observation.
You should arrange to have someone drive you home from the hospitalfollowing your procedure.
At home
You should be able to return to your daily routine within a few days. Yourdoctor will tell you if you will need to take more time in returning toyour normal activities. You should not do any lifting or pulling onanything for a few weeks. You may be instructed to limit movement of thearm on the side that the pacemaker was placed, based on your doctor'spreferences.
You will most likely be able to resume your usual diet, unless your doctorinstructs you differently.
It will be important to keep the insertion site clean and dry. You will begiven instructions about bathing and showering.
Your doctor will give you specific instructions about driving.
Ask your doctor when you will be able to return to work. The nature of youroccupation, your overall health status, and your progress will determinehow soon you may return to work.
Notify your doctor to report any of the following:
Fever and/or chills
Increased pain, redness, swelling, or bleeding or other drainage from the insertion site
Chest pain/pressure, nausea and/or vomiting, profuse sweating, dizziness and/or fainting
Palpitations
Your doctor may give you additional or alternate instructions after theprocedure, depending on your particular situation.
Pacemaker precautions
The following precautions should always be considered. Discuss thefollowing in detail with your doctor, or call the company that made yourdevice:
Always carry an ID card that states you have a pacemaker. In addition, you may want to wear a medical identification bracelet indicating that you have a pacemaker.
Let screeners know you have a pacemaker before going through airport security detectors. In general airport detectors are safe for pacemakers, but the small amount of metal in the pacemaker and leads may set off the alarm. If you are selected for additional screening by hand-held detector devices, politely remind the screeners that the detector wand should not be held over your pacemaker for longer than a few seconds, as these devices contain magnets and thus may affect the function or programming of your pacemaker.
You may not have a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedure (unless you have a specially designed pacemaker). You should also avoid large magnetic fields such as power generation sites and industrial sites such as automobile junkyards that use large magnets.
Abstain from diathermy (the use of heat in physical therapy to treat muscles).
Turn off large motors, such as cars or boats, when working close to them as they may create a magnetic field.
Avoid high-voltage or radar machinery, such as radio or television transmitters, electric arc welders, high-tension wires, radar installations, or smelting furnaces.
If you are having a surgical procedure performed, inform your surgeon that you have a pacemaker well before the operation. Also ask your cardiologist's advice on whether anything special should be done prior to and during the surgery, as the electrocautery device that controls bleeding may interfere with the pacemaker. Sometimes the pacemaker's programming will be temporarily changed (using a magnet) during the surgery to minimize the possibility of interference from the electrocautery.
When involved in a physical, recreational, or sporting activity, protect yourself from trauma to the pacemaker. A blow to the chest near the pacemaker can affect its functioning. If you are hit in that area, you may want to see your doctor.
Cell phones in the U.S. with less than 3 watts of output do not seem to affect pacemakers or the pulse generator, but as a precaution, cell phones should be kept at least 6 inches away from your pacemaker. Avoid carrying a cell phone in your breast pocket over your pacemaker.
Always consult your doctor when you feel ill after an activity, or when you have questions about beginning a new activity.
Always consult your doctor if you have any questions concerning the use of certain equipment near your pacemaker.
If you need to have a pacemaker fitted, a small electrical device called a pacemaker will be surgically implanted in your chest.
The pacemaker sends electrical pulses to your heart to keep it beating regularly and not too slowly.
Having a pacemaker can significantly improve your quality of life if you have problems with a slow heart rate. The device can be lifesaving for some people.
In the UK, pacemaker implantation is one of the most common types of heart surgery carried out, with many thousands of pacemakers fitted each year.
How a pacemaker works
A pacemaker is a small device about the size of a matchbox or smaller that weighs 20 to 50g.
It consists of a pulse generator, which has a battery and a tiny computer circuit, and 1 or more wires known as pacing leads, which attach to your heart.
The pulse generator emits electrical impulses through the wires to your heart. The rate at which the electrical impulses are sent out is called the pacing rate.
Almost all modern pacemakers work on demand. This means they can be programmed to adjust the discharge rate in response to your body's needs.
If the pacemaker senses that your heart has missed a beat or is beating too slowly, it sends signals at a steady rate.
If it senses that your heart is beating normally by itself, it doesn't send out any signals.
Most pacemakers have a special sensor that recognises body movement or your breathing rate.
This allows them to speed up the discharge rate when you're active. Doctors describe this as rate responsive.
Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs)
An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) is a device similar to a pacemaker.
It sends a larger electrical shock to the heart that essentially 'reboots' it to get it pumping again.
Some devices contain both a pacemaker and an ICD.
ICDs are often used as a preventative treatment for people thought to be at risk of cardiac arrest at some point in the future.
If the ICD senses the heart is beating at a potentially dangerous abnormal rate, it'll deliver an electrical shock to the heart.
This often helps return the heart to a normal rhythm.
A conventional ICD has a pacing lead that's implanted along a vein (transvenously).
There's also a newer type of ICD where the pacing lead is implanted under the skin (subcutaneously).

Why do I need a pacemaker?
The heart is essentially a pump made of muscle, which is controlled by electrical signals.
These signals can become disrupted for several reasons, which can lead to a number of potentially dangerous heart conditions, such as:
an abnormally slow heartbeat (bradycardia)
an abnormally fast heartbeat (tachycardia)
heart block (where your heart beats irregularly because the electrical signals that control your heartbeat aren't transmitted properly)
cardiac arrest (when a problem with the heart's electrical signals cause the heart to stop beating altogether)
Read more about why you might need a pacemaker.
How is a pacemaker fitted?
Having a pacemaker implanted is a relatively straightforward process.
It's usually carried out under local anaesthetic, which means you'll be awake during the procedure.
The generator is usually placed under the skin near the collarbone on the left side of the chest.
Absolute backgammon for mac. The generator is attached to a wire that's guided through a blood vessel to the heart.
The procedure usually takes about an hour, and most people are able to leave hospital on the same day or a day after surgery.
Read more about how a pacemaker is fitted.
After pacemaker surgery
You should be able to return to normal physical activities soon after surgery.
As a precaution, it's usually recommended that strenuous activities are avoided for around 4 to 6 weeks after having a pacemaker fitted.
After this, you should be able to do most activities and sports.
Pacemaker Of The Heart
You'll be able to feel the pacemaker, but you'll soon get used to it. It may seem a bit heavy at first, and may feel uncomfortable when you lie in certain positions.
You'll need to attend regular check-ups to make sure your pacemaker is working properly. Clamxav download mac. Most pacemakers store information about your natural heart rhythms.
When you have follow-up appointments, your doctor can retrieve this information and use it to check how well your heart and the pacemaker are working.
Read more about recovering from pacemaker surgery.
Using electrical equipment
Anything that produces a strong electromagnetic field, like an induction hob, can interfere with a pacemaker.
But most common household electrical equipment, such as hairdryers and microwave ovens, won't be a problem as long as you use them at least 15cm (6 inches) away from your pacemaker.
If you have an induction hob, keep a distance of at least 60cm (2ft) between the stove top and your pacemaker.
If this is a problem, you may want to consider replacing the appliance with something more suitable.
If you feel dizzy or feel your heart beating faster while using an electrical appliance, simply move away from it to allow your heart beat to return to normal.
Safety
Having a pacemaker implanted is usually a very safe procedure with a low risk of complications.
The biggest concern is the pacemaker losing its ability to control the heartbeat, either because it malfunctions or the wire moves out of the correct position.
It's sometimes possible to reprogramme the pacemaker to fix a malfunction using wireless signals.
But further surgery may be needed if the pacemaker moves out of position.
Read more about the risks of having a pacemaker.
Alternatives to a pacemaker
In some cases, it may be possible to control an abnormal heartbeat (arrhythmia) without having a pacemaker fitted.
For example, atrial fibrillation can sometimes be treated with medication or a non-surgical procedure called catheter ablation.
But not all people with an arrhythmia can be treated in this way, and in many cases a pacemaker is considered to be the most effective option.
If your cardiologist recommends having a pacemaker fitted, ask them why they think it's the best option and discuss any possible alternative treatments you could have.
New technology
A new, smaller pacemaker about the size of a pill has been developed and is currently being tested in a global clinical trial.
The new device uses wireless technology and can be implanted directly into the heart, where it delivers electrical impulses from an electrode.
Tumblr media
This means a pacing lead isn't required, which has the benefits of lowering the risk of infection and shortening the recovery time associated with implanting traditional pacemakers.

Why resize an image?
When displaying or sharing an image online, we often need to resize the image to fit entirely on the viewer's screen or change the file size. In particular, it can be necessary to make the image smaller when sending it as an email attachment or posting on a website. Social platforms such as Facebook and Instagram with their limitations on image size aren't the exception in that regard as well.
Resize Image Pixels
Now it's important to understand how to resize the photo without losing quality. Technically, resizing changes underlying pixel information. For example, when a picture's width and height get smaller, any unnecessary pixel information will be removed. To enlarge the picture, the image resizer must add new pixels based on the original pixels, which results in blurry looking photos. Thus, the essence of picture resizing without losing quality is to capture the photo with the highest resolution and downsize it.
Resize images online with ResizePixel

California Teleconnect Fund Surcharge
Making Telecommunications Services Affordable for Schools, Libraries, and Others The California Teleconnect Fund (CTF) Program was established by Decision 96-10-066 on October 25, 1996. In this decision, the Commission reaffirmed its commitment to universal service, and in accordance with state and federal directives, created the CTF program to provide 50% discount on selected telecommunications services to qualifying schools, libraries, government-owned and operated hospitals and health clinics, and community based organizations. The program is funded through a surcharge on all end-users of intrastate telecommunications services.
For more information on the California Teleconnect Fund, see the CPUC website.
For current surcharge rates, see http://www.cpuc.ca.gov/general.aspx?id=1124
California Advanced Services Fund Surcharge

The total allocation for the CASF is $100 million. An expected two-year program, the CASF will promote universal service in unserved and underserved areas in the state by awarding funding to qualifying certificated applicant carriers. The funding will be used for projects that will a) provide broadband services to areas currently without broadband access and b) build out facilities in underserved areas if funds are still available. Funds shall be collected using an all-end-user surcharge billed and collected by telecommunications carriers.

The California PUC User Fee is established by the California Public Utilities Commission. Commission determines annually the appropriate CPUC fee to be paid by the telecommunications carriers. This fee is based on the telecommunications carrier's gross intrastate revenue excluding inter-carrier sales, equipment sales and directory advertising. The purpose of this fee is to finance the Commission's annual operating budget.
For more information on the California PUC User Fee, see the California PUC website.
Property Tax Allotment Surcharge
A property tax allotment surcharge (PTA) is applied to all base voice charges excluding other taxes and surcharges. This is not a tax, but a cost recovery mechanism meant to recover the cost of state-assessed property taxes on telecommunications equipment located in our service areas.
For more information on State-assessed property taxes, please see: the California Board of Equalization website.
Federal Universal Service Fund (FUSF)
What is the Federal Universal Service Fund(FUSF)?
The following explanation is taken verbatim from the FCC regarding the USF:
Because telephones provide a vital link to emergency services, to government services and to surrounding communities, it has been our nation's policy to promote telephone service to all households since this service began in the 1930s. The USF helps to make phone service affordable and available to all Americans, including consumers with low incomes, those living in areas where the costs of providing telephone service is high, schools and libraries and rural health care providers. Congress has mandated that all telephone companies providing interstate service must contribute to the USF. Although not required to do so by the government, many carriers choose to pass their contribution costs on to their customers in the form of a line item, often called the 'Federal Universal Service Fee' or 'Universal Connectivity Fee.'
The current incarnation of the FUSF was introduced into tax law created by United States Congress, via the FCC in 1998. Title 47, Code of Federal Regulations, Sections 36, 54, and 69.
The Federal Universal Service Fund surcharge is assessed on all interstate and international voice charges incurred by customers during the billing period. The exact surcharge rate is updated on a quarterly basis by FCC.
This surcharge is imposed for the purpose of providing telecommunications services at an affordable price to schools, libraries, rural health care providers, and low-income customers. The tax is a percentage of the interstate portion of the long distance charge on your bill. The surcharge is assessed to all telecommunications companies with interstate operations, including long distance carriers, wireless companies, pager companies and payphone companies. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates this surcharge.
This surcharge appears by many names. The following are some ways in which the FUSF charges may be represented on bills from other companies, including your local and long distance telephone carriers:
Federal Universal Service Fee
Federal Universal Service Fund
Federal USF - ADSL
FED USF - ISDN PRI
FED USF - CENTREX
FED USF - Special Access
Universal Connectivity Charge
Universal Service Carrier Charge
Where can I get more information about the FUSF?
The best resource for information about the particulars of the FUSF is the FCC website at www.fcc.gov.The FCC website is a good place to find information regarding the telecommunications industry in general.
Federal Subscriber Line Charge
The Subscriber Line Charge is a fee paid to the local phone company that connects you to the telephone network. Local telephone companies recover some of the costs of telephone lines connected to homes or businesses through this monthly charge on your local telephone bill. Sometimes called the federal subscriber line charge, this fee is regulated and capped by the FCC, not by state Public Utility Commissions.
For more information on the Federal Subscriber Line Charge, see the Federal Communication Commission website.
Federal Interstate Telecommunications Service Provider (ITSP) Fee
As set forth in 47 U.S.C. 159(a), the Commission is required by Congress to collect regulatory fees to recover the regulatory costs associated with its enforcement, policy and rulemaking, user information, and international activities. Licensees and regulatees are assessed fees calculated as set forth in (See Assessment and Collection of Regulatory Fees for Fiscal Year 2010, Report and Order, 75 FR 41932 at 1 (July 19, 2010) ('FY 2010 Regulatory Fees Report and Order')).
For more information on the Federal Interstate Telecommunications Service Provider (ITSP) Fee, see http://www.fcc.gov/fees/regfees.html
FCC Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS)
TRS is a telephone transmission service that allows persons who have hearing or speech disabilities or are deaf-blind, to place and receive telephone calls. TRS is available in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and some of the U.S. territories for local and long distance calls. The assessment rate for 2011-2012 is 1.058% of all interstate and international telephone charges.
For more information on the TRS program, see http://transition.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/trs.pdf (PDF)
Regulatory Recovery Surcharge
Www.protrader.com. A Regulatory Recovery Surcharge is assessed on all base voice charges excluding other taxes and surcharges, to cover costs associated with the collection and payment of government imposed taxes and fees, and to recover the costs of regulatory advocacy and compliance with regulatory requirements including local telephone number portability. This surcharge is not a tax which the government requires us to collect from customers. The charge is subject to change from time to time as the costs of regulatory compliance change.
Local Utility Users Tax
Local telephone taxes are charged by many municipalities. These are voter approved taxes which utility providers are obligated to collect and remit to your city. For specific rates for your city, the UUTInfo website provides a helpful reference. You can also contact your city's finance department for specific information about utility users tax.
San Francisco 911/Access Line Tax
For subscribers in the city of San Francisco, Proposition O created a voice Access Line Tax, formerly called the 911 tax. It is intended to provide revenue for such general fund services as may be determined by the Board of Supervisors including, without limitation, police, fire, and emergency services.
Estimated Taxes and Fees:
Estimated total voice taxes and fees for Fusion, subject to change based upon federal, state, local and fee changes. Please note, estimated taxes and fees below do not include FUSF charges on international per-minute charges. If international usage charges are incurred then additional FUSF will be assessed on those amounts.

ClamXAV
Tumblr media
Despite being one of the strongest and most secure operating systems, Mac is not immune to attacks by malicious software. Even if you have a Mac, you should have an antivirus installed on your computer to protect it from external threats. ClamXav has a great user interface that uses an open-source antivirus engine called ClamAV. UNIX users will be well acquainted with this tool that you operate via the command line. The program can run passively or actively and also lets you scan the entire hard drive or just a particular directory. If you receive a lot of emails from users who run Windows or download applications for that operating system, ClamXav can scan them for viruses. You can also program it to do regular scans and monitor certain folders that may be more vulnerable to possible virus or malware infections.
Tumblr media
ClamXav can be downloaded directly or through the Mac App Store. The Mac App Store version does not contain the Sentry tool that allows constant scanning for changes by folder, so this tutorial is for the download version which you can get at http://www.clamxav.com/.
Clamxav Download For Mac
I like ClamXav and think that it is the best protection for mac. It saves your computer from antiviruses and various malwares. I use it few years and have no complaints. To a certain moment - while they did not make the subscription. I do not want to paid every year and they have lost me. And i think i am not alone - some customers will go away.
Note: ClamXav used to be free but as of June 2015 is a commercial product. I think it’s well worth the $30 and by paying for it I’m helping to ensure the development of the product continues.
Before using ClamXav. You must first install the Clam Anti—Virus engine. Click the 'Install' button to do this now - the installer will launch and ClamXav will quit. Click View Instructions' for information on how to download the source code, and build it yourself. Install Quit View Instructions 6 items. MB available ClamXav.
ClamXav is designed to be lightweight and non-intrusive. Users can quickly quarantine or trash a file with a click, and the Sentry service acts as a constant disk monitor without dragging performance down. All in all, ClamXav is ideal for Mac users who want simple protection and minimum fuss.
ClamXav is a trusted anti-virus and malware scanner for Mac OS X with the ability to detect both Mac and Windows threats. This app puts you in control - it can be set up to scan either the specific files you tell it to, or your entire hard drive, whichever you prefer.
ClamXAV wraps the venerable, open source ClamAntiVirus engine in a straightforward user interface. It's lab-certified to protect your Mac, but doesn't go beyond the basics.
Tumblr media
Protrader.com. After installation, log out of your Mac and back in. Absolute backgammon.
Starting
When you first launch ClamXav it’s a good idea to update the Virus Definitions. Next let’s set some preferences.
General Preferences
You can set these as you desire, especially the audible alerts
Believe it or not, UNcheck scanning your email for malware. Your spam filter will catch most of this and put it in a spam bucket but ClamXav will stil find it and give you CONSTANT popups about it. I also don’t update virus definitions on launch because we’ll put it on a schedule in a later step. I DO however allow the application to check for updates on launch like any other program. It might seem odd also to UNcheck update virus definitions on launch, but we’re going to do that on a schedule instead in a later step.
Click on the Sentry tab next.
Sentry
Sentry keeps an eye on any folder you choose. We’re going to set it to watch your Downloads folder, because that’s where new stuff shows up that we want scanned. This is the feature you only get if you buy directly from ClamXav.com and is not available in the Mac App Store version.
Drag Home Folder Into the Window
Drag your Downloads folder into the window. Alternatively you can push the plus button and navigate to your Downloads folder.
Your Downloads Folder Will Now be Monitored
Verify – you should see simply ~/Downloads in the folders being watched.
Click on the Schedule tab next.
Schedule
It’s a good idea to allow virus definitions to be updated daily so set the pulldown to a time you’re sure your machine will be on. Now simply let ClamXav run and hope you never hear back from it!
Clamxav
Run a Full Scan
Run a full scan of your home folder. This took about 3 hours for my very large home folder. It found 450 .emix files, where are all Mail files that are probably in my spam and junk mail folders. Once the scan is done, you can right click on the files and show where they are in the finder, or you can simply choose delete from that menu, or select them all and hit command-delete.
Now that your machine is clean, you can rely on Sentry to watch for changes and to scan only those changes.
Scan On Demand
ClamXav also installs a Service that lets you scan a file or folder at any time. Simply right click on the file or folder you want to scan, pull down to Services, and choose Scan with ClamXav. The application will run and show you the results of the scan.
Clamxav Mac
Log out and back into your account for the contextual menus to be available under Services.

Think or Swim
This platform was purchased by TD Ameritrade a number of years ago and is one of the most sophisticated options trading platforms available today. You can also trade stocks and futures with them. If you are into options it is extremely worthwhile to open a small account with them so that you can use their option analyzing tools. In this area, they are well above all but the most expensive option tools out there.
TradeStation
Tradestation has been around for a long time and is well known in the industry. They offer some of the best charting software in the business. You can enter orders right from the software and they support many different order types. You can also trade futures and stocks from the same account.
LightSpeed Trading
Tumblr media
These guys are geared toward the active semi-pro or professional trader. You can do all your trading from a single Lightspeed account whether you’re trading equities or options, trading to multiple destinations, or trading for multiple funds. Lightspeed is an introducing broker to Merrill Lynch Professional Clearing, and Wedbush Clearing and Execution.
Interactive Brokers
An excellent broker if you know what you are doing. Their customer service used to have a bad reputation but seems to improved significantly in recent years. They offer very competitive pricing and do expect you to be quite knowledgeable. They are a good choice for experienced active traders. Their commission structure allows easy scaling in and out of positions and they have an extensive set of order type choices.
Ally Invest
This broker tries to combine low commissions with good tools and customer service. There is no commission fee on U.S. listed stocks and ETFs and no ticket fee on option trades and a contract fee of just 50¢ per contract. They started out with the idea of fostering a trading community and claim focus on customer service by offering knowledgeable staff who answer the phone quickly as well as easy access to chat and quick responses to e-mails.
Fidelity
Fidelity has traditionally been more geared toward the investor than the active trader, but over the past five years or so they have also catered more to active traders. While not a direct access broker, their commissions are very competitive. They offer zero commissions on stock and ETF trades and $0.65 per contract on option trades. They also offer more robust customer service than most direct access brokers.
E*Trade
E*Trade is well known for it’s ubiquitous advertising. They have been around for a while and now offer zero commission on stocks and ETFs with $0.65 per contract on options. They claim to cater to all types of traders and have a special platform they call eTrade Pro for active traders.
Tradezero
Tradezero is an offshore broker which allows small accounts to daytrade. There is no commission on limit orders that add liquidity. They clear with Vision Clearing. They offer 6 to 1 leverage. You can read the FAQ here. They have recently opened a US branch with regular leverage and zero commissions as well. As with many brokers, you might want to use them for trade executions but use a separate charting package for your charts.
Schwab
Charles Schwab was the first of the major US full service brokers to switch over to zero commission stock and ETF trading. They charge $0.65 per option contract. They have generally offered superior customer service in tandem with low commission structures over the years and are a very reasonable choice for a broker.
Tastyworks
Tastyworks is a relatively new brokerage started by Tom Sosnoff who was instrumental in starting thinkorswim and sold it to TD Ameritrade. They offer a competitive commission structure which you can check out here. You can use a small cash account to daytrade options and start each day with your settled funds balance as your buying power for the day.
Robinhood
Robinhood is a mobile app that allows you to trade stocks, ETFs, options and crypto. A major feature is that the trades are “commission free”. It looks like they now do their own clearing. You can read about that here. There are some distinct disadvantages to trading off of a phone, but you can also use a full featured platform along with robinhood to help you analyze the market.
TradeStation
The TradeStation platform has been around for many years and originally started out as Omega Charts. For a long time they were way ahead of the competition and likely pushed the evolution of trading platforms forward. They have integrated trading into most aspects of their software, so you can easily trade from the platform which is a very good feature. If you are into backtesting and system building, they have a programming language called EasyLanguageÂŽ which allows you to build and test systems. They also provide you with an extensive historical database to facilitate backtesting.
MultiCharts
MultiCharts is a charting and trading platform with a robust set of features. The platform allows backtesting and indicator creation with EasyLanguage. As with many of the better software packages you can do market replay which allows you to practice your trading risk free. It is a very customizable package so you have a lot of flexibility to set up your workspace in a way that suits your trading style.
TC2000
The TC2000 platform has very good clean, sharp looking charting with many added features. The watch lists are also very configurable. Another favorable aspect of this package is that you can add trendlines, etc. and they will still be there the next time you go to the chart. The following is from the TC2000 website: Scan and sort through 1000’s of stocks per second. Screen from hundreds of indicator & fundamental criteria customized with your parameters and time frames. Just follow the step-by-step wizard to build your custom conditions. No programming is required, but you can optionally write condition formulas to refine your results. TC2000 helps you find the charts you are looking for in real-time.
eSignal
eSignal has been around for a long time. They are one of the more pricey packages. Their charting is quite clean looking and their data is pretty good. They used to be at the forefront of charting packages, but others have caught up to them in recent years. You can check out their promo video here
AmiBroker
Amibroker has been around for almost thirty years. It is a charting and back-testing package that is extremely powerful and fast but not especially intuitive. It’s user base is fiercely loyal, but a large percentage of them are quite code savvy. For the average user, there will probably be a steep learning curve. All that would be well and good, except for the fact that the user manual is a bit much to decipher and the tech support is done mostly by e-mail and a yahoo message group of all things! Here is the user database. I would highly recommend this software if it had more user friendly support. The pricing is very reasonable.
Trading View
Here is what Tradingview has to say about their services: Easy and intuitive for beginners, and powerful enough for advanced chartists – TradingView has all charting tools you need to share and view trading ideas. Real-time data and browser-based charts let you do your research from anywhere, since there are no installations or complex setups. Just open TradingView on any modern browser and start charting, learning and sharing trading ideas! It’s basically a community platform for sharing trading ideas and also offers real time charting capabilities.
Medved Trader
Jerry Medved is a programmer who developed and founded “QuoteTracker” years ago and eventually sold it out to TD Ameritrade. QuoteTracker was an excellent charting program that was very reasonably priced and could be had at a discount through various brokers. When Jerry sold it out to TD Ameritrade, he apparently was not able to compete with them for a set amount of time. It appears as though the non-compete is expired because he recently came out with Medved Trader. In the spirit of QuoteTracker, Medved Trader is a full featured, reasonably priced, well put together trading software package. Here is a demo of Medved Trader done by Jerry himself. You can get it for free from some brokerages including TradeKing and Tradier brokerages.
NinjaTrader
NinjaTrader’s platform is a capable charting package with numerous valuable features. You can add indicators and trade off the charts if you like. It facilitates back-testing as well. Here is the platform purchase page. You can download and try out simulated trading for free in order to get to know the platform. It can be configured to work with a number of different brokers and comes free with a NinjaTrader account if you do a certain volume of trades per month.
SierraChart
SierraChart is an excellent charting program which is compatible with a number of broker datafeeds as well as with many third party datafeeds. The price is reasonable and it is possible to trade right from the platform.
Sterling Trader Pro
A professional level platform, Sterling Trader Pro is used by prop firms, broker-dealers, and active traders. You can connect from your desktop, laptop, iPad, iPhone, or Android.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DAS Trader
DAS Trader is a high end trading platform which you can get through many brokers. It’s available on desktop, laptop, iPhone, or Android.
FinViz
These guys provide one of the best free scanners available on the net today. It’s so good, as a matter of fact, that you don’t really have to sign up for their paid service if you don’t want to. Although it seems as though they are geared toward the lower priced stocks when you look at the landing page, you can click on the screener section and set the parameters to your liking. It’s a great tool for getting quick background news and other info on stocks you are interested in. Simply click on the ticker and you’ll get a page with much of the pertinent fundamental information as well as recent news and a daily chart. For more info and intraday charts, you can subscribe for a very reasonable price.
Protrader.com
Trade Ideas
This service is a sort of artificial intelligence trading helper. You get to program the scans according to criteria that fits your scan ideas. If you get stuck, this software has many pre-frabricated scans that you can mix and match. The scanning is very current and you will get as many alerts as you can handle provided you give it enough to look for.
Your Broker’s Stock Scanner
Don’t forget to check out your broker’s scanner. Many brokers license commercial scanning software either in whole or part. You might be surprised how close the results are to those of software you would pay a significant extra fee for. I highly recommend that you check this out first before spending extra money on a paid service.

Market Watch
MarketWatch is a subsidiary of Dow Jones and Company, the same company that owns the Wall Street Journal and Barrons. Although the news is not timely enough for active day trading, it offers a lot of useful news covering all sorts of things and can give you an overall look at what is happening in the Market. It has a lot of entertaining and fluff news as well.
Tumblr media
CNBC
As you already probably know, CNBC is a financial news network covering current events related to the world markets. It is up to you to decide how useful the information presented here is. There is no doubt that there is a lot of “hype” on this station, but they do cover breaking events that are important to daily trading activities. You can find the pertinent info faster with subscriber news services, but a lot of people enjoy watching CNBC for entertainment purposes as well.
Bloomberg
Bloomberg.com is a business news website that covers news pertinent to the Markets as well as business in general. In some ways it is similar to CNBC but more sophisticated with less hype.
Yahoo Finance Economic Calendar
Tumblr media
The Yahoo Economic Calendar is a good place to get the run down on what important market related announcements are coming up. If you don’t have this info elsewhere, it’s worth checking out before the market opens. They don’t update the results fast enough for active day traders, but at least you can be aware of when important reports are coming out and adjust your trading accordingly.
World Charts
Allstocks.com is a funky little website that features a lot of useful information for traders. The main page I use on this site is the world charts page which shows a time delayed read out of how the world markets are doing. It’s a quick way to get a snapshot of what occurred overnight around the globe.

Rebate trading is an equity trading style that uses ECN rebates as a primary source of profit and revenue. Most ECNs charge commissions to customers who want to have their orders filled immediately at the best prices available, but the ECNs pay commissions to buyers or sellers who “add liquidity” by placing limit orders that create “market-making” in a security. Rebate traders seek to make money from these rebates and will usually maximize their returns by trading low priced, high volume stocks. This enables them to trade more shares and contribute more liquidity with a set amount of capital, while limiting the risk that they will not be able to exit a position in the stock.
