Breaking Up Is Hard To Do
“Breaking Up Is Hard to Do”
Hal Sirowitz
“We don’t have anything in common,”
I said. “We’re two completely different people.
It doesn’t make sense to stay together.”
But then she started to rub my penis
through my pants, & I suddenly remembered
that we both did like Indian food.

Paris Without You
by Hal Sirowitz
I didn’t mind you promising
to love me forever, she said,
because that’s what lovers are
supposed to say. But to make
a site-specific promise –
taking me to Paris – then end
our relationship before we have
a chance to go there is extremely
disturbing. You put that idea
in my head. Now I’ll have to go there
by myself. When you knew you
were breaking up with me you should
have weaned me from wanting to go
to such a far away place & suggested
some place nearer. When you get
my postcard don’t expect it to say,
“Wish you were here.” Most likely
it’ll say, “You son of a bitch.
They speak French in Montreal, too,
and it’s cheaper to get there.”

“Playing a character for that long is a blessing and curse. It’s a dream job in many ways, but it doesn’t come without a cost. There’s a lot of mental and emotional baggage that gets torn through and weighs on you after a while… I put a lot of hard work into this, and a lot of my own time and effort. It’s really nice to have it be recognized as much as it has been.” —Jon Hamm

"I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the center."

When a man walks into a room, he brings his whole life with him. He has a million reasons for being anywhere, just ask him. If you listen, he’ll tell you how he got there. How he forgot where he was going, and that he woke up. If you listen, he’ll tell you about the time he thought he was an angel or dreamt of being perfect. And then he’ll smile with wisdom, content that he realized the world isn’t perfect. We’re flawed, because we want so much more. We’re ruined, because we get these things, and wish for what we had.

I keep going to a lot of places and ending up somewhere I've already been.
