The Filipino & Philippine Studies Working Group provides a regular meeting space for graduate students and faculty to discuss critical and emerging scholarship in the fields. Often, Filipino Studies and Philippine Studies are conceived of as separate fields: the first is subsumed into ethnic or cultural studies, while the latter is incorporated in international area studies. This working group brings these seemingly disparate fields together, particularly through the organizers’ cross-disciplinary collaborations. The group collaborates with other working groups, local Filipino-American organizations, inter-UC Philippine Studies initiatives, and scholarly networks of Philippine-based researchers.
