"Really? What program are you in?" She asked curiously, she'd wondered if perhaps their paths would have crossed had she not dipped out of Radcliffe midway through her undergrad. "Ugh, don't bother - they're itchy," she lamented, of course her parents had gotten her every bit of gear the moment she committed all those years back. "Likewise. They made me look like a peanut."
"i sure am," liam responded with a smile, "oh man, i wanted one of those crewnecks so bad," he groaned. of course, he could have easily bought his own, but where would be the fun in that? "i'm not much of a hat person, i'm afraid," he laughed, "i usually ended up giving them away."

"Hm?" Francesca turned her head toward the sound of another, looking like a deer caught in headlights until she realized it was Dakota. "Well, I'm enjoying the food ..." she held up her plate of nachos as proof, "-but honestly I feel like it's the same as every year," she laughed.

"Pretty much, I missed a few years but I still think I've had my fill at this point," Francesca mused, agreeing. "Are you an undergraduate-turned-graduate too?" The boy stood next to her looked older than the pack of undergraduates giggling and goofing off. When his tone turned more negative, she smiled softly, hiding a laugh under her lips. "Well, when a crewneck is the most sought-after prize, how much do you expect, really?" She remarked with a sip of her lemonade. "Well, they never fit my head right, at least you could probably get some use out of them."
location: the kickoff party participants: liam waldorf & open ( @radcliffextra )
"god, it feels like i've been to a million of these parties," liam laughed, a wide smile spread across his face as he turned to look at his unwitting companion. "and they've all been exactly the same as the year before," his tone now seeped in negativity. "one can only win so many free hats before they lose any meaning."

"Are you really?" She grinned, laughing softly at the comment - leprechauns fearing him? Who was this guy? Whoever he was, he was definitely getting her to crack a smile. "Well, I don't worship anyone, but if you can make the call on what prize you'll win I might have to. That's some psychic shit right there," she joked, brushing back a stray piece of hair behind her ear. "Oh boy please," she laughed at his next line, "-okay, okay. If you can make me swoon over a Radcliffe tee then that's when I'll worship you. 'Cause that cheap cotton is mediocre at best," she commented, it was true, she had a pretty high standard when it came to clothing quality. "And what name is that?" She blushed, before replying more genuinely. "I'd take you up on that, I'm always hungry. I'm Francesca, by the way."
rowan couldn't help the chuckle that escapes his lips at francesca's remark , wondering whether it's a common reaction by those who aren't used to his hyperbolic declarations. he decides that he finds it adorable and with his interest piqued , he quips , ❝ i'm very lucky , i'm telling you. as a matter of fact , leprechauns either fear me or worship me. ❞ he tries to keep a straight face , but when she supplements her own stunt , it was no longer withheld. ❝ are you willing to have me change your mind? i can run up to the merch section and try one on. i'd even bet that it'd make you swoon. ❞ he smiles , ❝ well , meal vouchers or not , if you're hungry , you can always scream my name and i'd come running to eat with you. ❞

She couldn't help but crack a smile at the dramatic gasp the other let out. She almost wanted to ask her what her major was, and if she'd consider taking a drama class. If she could recreate that onstage or onscreen, she'd nail tons of roles. "Oh my god - last time I was there I swear I was the oldest person in the store. Even if I didn't look it," she rolled her eyes slightly, she looked closer to 18 than she did 26, "I don't get it, those lil' babies don't need skincare, at that age I was more than happy with my LipSmackers." When she saw the other call out the offender, she did her own little gasp, albeit much softer, and quickly moved her hand up to her lip to cover the small laugh that followed it. "Bold. I like that," she commented genuinely, smiling but also slightly afraid of her. "Oh, you're a lifesaver. Thank you so much," she gushed, nearly clapping at the sight of the small stick of hope that rested in the other's hand. "If you don't mind? It's on my right side and I can't do shit with my left hand," she admitted, laughing softly. Probably the only time in her life she wished she was a leftie.
one would think she’d stepped right into a campy mid-afternoon soap opera where her character had stumbled upon a lover in bed with a beloved friend ( no doubt nearing its 108th season ) with the gasp that shot right out of her. dramatic ? perhaps — but, in her eyes, the severity of the situation deserved such theatrics. it was cashmere, after all. “ i swear, these freshmen are worse than the kids ransacking the drunk elephant displays at sephora. like … what do you mean you’re looking for retinol ? you’re ten. stick with neutrogena. ” she’d been quick to spot the culprit strutting away with little to no care for the damage done in their wake, “ a sorry would’ve been nice ! ” middle finger shot up before her attention shifted to focus solely on the girl. “ hold on, we can fix this. ” she began to rummage into her bag, seemed never ending despite it’s minuscule size, very mary poppins. “ this should do the trick, ” and there it was, the saving grace presented in the form of an orange pen, a tide to-go stick. “ y’want me to do the honors ? ”

"I didn't intend to, but trust me, if they end up in my TA class I'll tell them to watch it next time or it's an F," she laughed, she wouldn't really do that but she definitely knew how to make someone feel bad for something when she needed to. Half the time people did anyway, even if it was something she didn't really care about. She raised her eyebrows in surprise at the request to follow but didn't question it, the other had a rather commanding presence and she wasn't about to question her. "Oh!" The request to take off her shirt came as a slight surprise and she fiddled with the corner of her sweater uncomfortably for a moment, before complying, silently hoping the other didn't get scared off by the G-tube button or scar on her chest as she stood there in her cropped undershirt.
"Your fault for trusting them in the first place when they're all idiots," Aera says with a roll of her eyes. Heaving a heavy sigh, she can't help but think about how she'd rather be anywhere else right now, spending her time in a much better and more fun way, but if there's a fashion disaster, she can't just not help. Just imagining having to deal with a stain on her clothes for the rest of the day makes her shudder. "Come on," she sighs, gesturing with her head for the other woman to follow her to the restroom. "Take off your shirt," Aera impatiently says, the displeasure at the turn of events for her day evident on her face.

When she noticed the offender return back to her, her face had been locked into somewhat of a grimace as she patted the affected area of her sweater, but upon seeing him apologize, her face softened and she shook her head. "It's okay, you didn't mean to," she paused, looking at him and deciding he was probably a bit older than she previously assumed. "A baby wipe would be great, but you don't have to if you've got other stands to hit," it'd be the nice thing of course, but she wasn't gonna say that, and part of her doubted they'd have any at all.
mateo nearly kept going after colliding with the other, not realizing the damage done until he overheard her say something to a passerby and immediately feeling embarrassed as he stopped in his tracks. "oh sh— i mean, shoot," he quickly corrected before accidentally cursing. he might've been an adult already, but his mother was in the back of his mind already reprimanding him; it was a habit he'd have to break now that he was finally out of the house on technically on his own. "i'm so sorry. did you want like... a baby wipe or something? i can probably find one at one of the food stands," he offered as one hand held the offending nachos, and the other pointed back toward the menagerie of food booths.

"I know," she sighed, adjusting the ring on her finger that had slid loose from the damp towel, "I love nachos, just didn't expect them to love me back so much." She smiled, shrugging softly. "Oh? Really, I'll try that then." She usually just sent her clothes to the cleaners' but it felt a bit awkward to say that. "Thank you! It's vintage. Depop," she beamed, clothes were one of her favorite things to talk about it.
" shit " dark eyes stared the stain against a perfect cut of cashmere -- similar to many hadley had all those yeas ago. running away from her own family and home led to many sleepless nights at the car, or relying on vouchers for meals, yet haddy wouldn't dare to have it any other way. no amount of cashmere in the world could buy her freedom. " the nachos did a number on you " a soft chuckle feel through. " try some vinegar and bicarbonate, might help with the stain later " and old trick she'd learned from a friend. " nice sweater, looks good on you "

"Ugh." That was all Francesca could say as she swiped a wet napkin across her sleeve, grimacing at the yellow that was still apparent on the corner, a putrid blemish she wasn't sure would come out in the wash. She had mostly come here for the food. Mostly. She wouldn't admit that she was hoping to run into some friends from her undergrad that she'd lost touch with, but that played a part as well. What she didn't expect was that the food would come for her. In the form of a freshman accidentally running into her with a plate full of nachos. It took everything in her not to get irate with them, but whatever. She gave a soft smile to the person next to her. "Learn from my mistakes, and do not trust the freshmen with the nacho cheese," she sighed, rolling up the sleeve of her cashmere so it was less noticeable.

"I -" Francesca paused, bringing her free hand up to her mouth as she hid a smile. "I don't think you can sweep a raffle draw unless you buy all the tickets?" Even then, there wasn't a guarantee ... we've all read the Hunger Games, right?, she thought to herself. But she could tell he was just playing around, he was cocky, but she liked confident and interesting people. "I don't think anyone really looks stunning in a Radcliffe tee. Even me," she joked. "But meal vouchers would come in clutch, I'd probably rather just use them for myself, most of my stipend gets used up in the first two weeks 'cause I'm always eating." Thank fuck for wealthy parents.
open, to anyone. location, main campus quad. event, kickoff party.
❝ have you come to witness me sweep the raffle draw? ❞ rowan questions at the sound of footsteps nearing where he stood , the hint of arrogance in his tone evoke a reminder of rowan's playful persona. of course , rowan would assume he'd win a prize , it is one of his many talents — his luck , or so he is convinced it is. ❝ i wouldn't mind winning a radcliffe t - shirt , but everyone already knows i look stunning in it . . . so perhaps , the meal vouchers? might come in handy for casual dates , don't you think? ❞

( olivia cooke, cisfemale, she/her ) have you met francesca collie yet? you know, the 26 year old graduate student majoring in secondary education with a focus in drama. ring a bell yet? every time i walk past their dorm i hear heart it races by dr. dog blasting through the door. everyone who meets them say they’re admirable but can also be a little invasive. guess when you meet them you’ll figure that out yourself. — carita, 24, she/her, est, triggers: sexual harrassment/sexual assault
meet francesca ‘franny’ collie!
FULL NAME: Francesca (Franny to close friends) Joanne Collie
AGE: 26 years old
BIRTHDAY: December 24th
GENDER & PRONOUNS: Cisfemale, she/her
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
POSITIVE CHARACTERISTICS: Witty, sweet, generous, intelligent, outgoing
WEAKNESSES: Nosy, stubborn, pessimistic, blunt
THE STORY SO FAR ...
(trigger warnings: terminal illness, hospitals, substance abuse)
Francesca is originally from a small town in suburban Massachusetts. She is the youngest in her family, having two older brothers and a twin brother born 5 minutes earlier than her.
She was born with a genetic disease called cystic fibrosis, and initially only expected to live to be about 5 years old, but through medical advancements and participating in sports as a child, she was actually fairly healthy throughout her childhood. Most of her friends at school didn’t even know she was sick.
She lived a very cushy, privileged life, in part due to her parents wanting to give her everything they could, as well as the fact that she grew up in a moderately wealthy household, so money was never much of a worry. Two of her older brothers were highly protective of her and would do anything for her, whereas her twin brother deeply resented her for constantly being the center of attention, and was quite cruel to her growing up.
Her brother’s cruelty came in part because he was deeply struggling with mental health issues and substance abuse issues. Because the focus was always on Franny, his parents did not realize the issues he was dealing with, and instead admonished him for his behavior.
Throughout high school, Franny excelled in almost every way. She truly had an almost perfect life. Smart and athletic, whatever she set her mind to, she believed she could accomplish. She did nearly every extracurricular you could think of, from soccer to running track, and her personal favorite, theatre.
In college, Franny decided to major in both theatre and drama. She wanted to pursue acting on Broadway, or potentially try to make it as an actress in LA, where she planned on going to after Radcliffe.
Her dreams were cut short when her health quickly deteriorated after being on her own for so long. Growing up in a small town with an overbearing family, she was used to having a lot of things done for her. Taking care of her health felt like a full time job, and it didn’t take long for her to suffer the consequences of neglecting her health. She eventually moved back home and was able to recover enough to graduate with her degree online, but with serious consequences, and was no longer fit enough to chase her dreams to New York or bring herself to come to a casting in LA.
After stabilizing a bit and getting her act together somewhat, she decided she did not want to stay back home living with her parents. So, instead, she decided to move back to Radcliffe and pursue higher education. A benefit of this was that her brother already was there, so she could feel more supported and not completely on her own. She is pursuing her degree in drama education now that she has essentially given up on her true dream of being an actress herself, while also trying to figure out how to thrive in the fast life as a disabled woman. She’s resentful of her past as well as her brother, who she continues to clash with at times, but also itching to figure out what she really wants at this time in her life, and take a break from always trying to be so damn perfect. after all, life is short, right?
ADDITIONAL INFO:
Francesca is generally an empathetic and generous person. Her heart is rarely in the wrong place. However, growing up privileged and in many ways, babied by her family sometimes results in her having a hard time connecting with and understanding people from a different walk of life. She is very sensitive and empathetic to certain experiences, but struggles to connect with others.
She likes to be the center of attention ... but not for the wrong reasons. She’d much rather show off the abilities she does have, rather than focus on what she lacks. Because of that, she can appear a bit pissy and even bitter at times, but she's never truly mean. When she finds herself in trouble, she will absolutely use her situation to her advantage when it benefits her. She might have struggles, but she's used to getting a lot handed to her throughout her life and needs to be humbled sometimes.
She’s lonely, but won’t admit it (most of the time). She craves affection from others in her life, be it a friend or a romantic partner, and really just wants to know the people she finds interesting better. Sometimes this results in her coming off as a little (okay, a lot) nosy.
She is a lover of all things nature. Loves plants and flowers. But she kills everything in her care. No green thumbs over here.
She is a massive foodie and really enjoys every type of cuisine, but definitely has a taste for fine dining.
Because she spent most of her life being somewhat self-absorbed into her appearance, she’s acquired quite the collection of clothes. Her style is very ecletic and feminine, think large colorful sweaters, tights, Mary Jane heels, and funky earrings. But she's terrible at makeup and usually just sticks to the basics.
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
Her twin brother! I’ll submit this as an official WC, but the only real criteria that needs to be filled is that he’s older than her, grew up in MA, and has struggled with substance abuse in the past (currently is fine as well). It’s a relationship I’m hoping to develop more and figure out along the way. Also, if an older brother would be preferred, we could work that out as well.
People she has collaborated with before: this could be someone she was in a play with for undergraduate, a student, a fellow TA (she helps teach drama), anyone that she's done anything with for her degree(s).
An unlikely friend: this is one of my favorite plots! Someone that comes from a completely different walk of life, have different struggles they are facing, but somehow get along and have a genuine friendship with one another. Someone who is more closed off and brooding compared to her unassuming personality is what I think of.
An ex-boyfriend - someone she left behind when she first left Radcliffe in her undergrad to move back home when she was very sick. Most likely a mutual breakup.
A former or current roommate from college: this could really go anywhere, but an easy connection for them to know one another/be friends
Anything else you can think of!
Also - I haven't gotten the invite to the OOC blog yet but hi, I'm Carita! I am an oldie from the RP community (started around 2014 I think?) and haven't in yeeeears but I'm so excited to again! I am still getting acquainted with the newest Xkit and whatnot so I may ask someone for help if I run into issues if anyone is willing, hehe. But I love plots and am super open so feel free to message me anytime!
