Using Pascal Vilcollet as the main inspiration, I tried to do a couple of pieces I used black and white as I don’t feel confident using different colours yet.

Being inspired by Vince Low’s work, I decided to do my own rendition of portraits in the style of his. I really like the loose and expressive mark making he makes while still being able to to have the tone/shade right.

On these drawings I was only focusing on the detail of the portrait. While I found these pieces to be successful, I found to be quite lacking due to the black background. For this project I want to expand on this subject by enlarging the size, add colour and try to utilize the background of each piece.

One of the main inspiration I’ve had coming in to this project is a Spanish artist called Juan Francisco Casas. Casas does big scale photo-realistic drawings using biro, I really took a liking to his work due to his skill and control using biro. And also because his art style relates to mine quite closely.

One of the main reason why rap/hip&hop is my favourite genre because of its versatility and its ability to talk about current issues in todays society.

Im basing my work on hip hop & rap music, but more importantly conscious rap. Being from a background with little beginnings, I feel like hip hop music was the genre that spoke to me the most, as I can relate with certain struggles that they went through. This led to me to look through different types of hip-hop such as trap, conscious, gangster etc. During this project, I want to focus not only on the artist but the backgrounds they came from as I feel like it’s a big influential factor when it comes to rap & hip hop and how different upbringings can give birth to different types of rap.
