People have gotten way too comfortable risking serious disability just because they feel they have the right to selfish.
Do you want to kill your parents?
Do you want to disable your partner?
Do you want your friends to lie in bed wishing for death?
Wear a fucking mask.

The Iranian Regime is going to execute rapper Toomaj Salehi for supporting protests of Jina Amini’s murder by the regime in his songs.
Iranian activist Elica Le Bon says, “Iranians in the diaspora picked up on the fact that the regime tends not to execute people who become known to the international community. We have seen many examples of prisoners that were either released on bail or had their sentences commuted through our “say their names to save their lives” campaign on social media, using hashtags to garner attention for their causes, and even before social media existed, through getting the stories of political prisoners to international media outlets. Once reported on, and once the eyes shift to the regime and the reality of its pending brutality, realizing that the action is not worth the repercussions, we have seen them back down and not execute. For that reason, this is part of an urgent campaign for readers to talk about Toomaj as much as you can, using the hashtag #FreeToomaj or #ToomajSalehi. Every comment makes a difference, and if we were wrong, what did we lose by trying?”

I've seen several sites mention this, it's real.
Do not make the MISTAKE of thinking you need to put your side forward. The Guardian is transphobic as fuck, and will twist your words. DO NOT ENGAGE.
By the way, this is in the aftermath of the Cass Report, and the goal will be to make Trans DIY something that needs to be regulated or stamped out. DO NOT ENGAGE.

Mulan. I would have been 4 or 5 at the time. I remember getting to the theater a bit late - I think I got there with my parents or grandparents (don't remember which took me) during the scene where she is preparing to leave and take her father's place in the army. It was my favorite film through a lot of my childhood.
what's the first movie you remember seeing in theaters? don't try and be all edgy and cool and say like tetsuo: the iron man. be honest.
Go!!

Legalizing sex work isn't the answer to safer sex work, decriminalization is.
Legalization means corporate interests over workers every time. Legalization means bosses raking in mountains of cash while workers make a dime. Decrim means we can do our work without being legally impacted and without businesses popping up like fucking weed dispos in Albuquerque with set rates that our bosses would choose in the case of legalization
Which, again, the problem isn't sex, the problem is work culture in late stage capitalism.
The real way to "save" sex workers is to save all workers from poverty. All humans. All people forced to work in order to put food in their mouths. Which is most humans. Most people will live treated like animals on the streets if they refuse to work. If you erase sex from the human experience entirely, work still exists. People still starve. People still die in harsh weather from being unhoused. People still die from police violence. The problem was never sex and legal industries kill every day. This will never stop until the system is radically changed. Pretending sex is the problem is a wonderful distraction and the sex work industry makes a great fall guy in a "sex is bad and your body is property that you can't do what you want with" society
The idea that "many whores can never leave" being part of the tragedy of being a whore is a twisted narrative, one that people assume means whores can't stop whoring bc they're forced by another human to whore. In reality, if we've whored, we can't get hired in many "legal" industries because of the narrative set up against us, and many of us find "legal" work much less easy to survive than whoring. It's easier for a lot of us to make $200 in an hour with every risk that comes with that (violence from authorities is a bigger concern than violence from a client) than it is to go legally work for someone tearing our bodies apart for $10/hr to do repetitive nonsexual labor.
Legalization kills. Decriminalization is what we need. And the destruction of the capitalist machine entirely. And for people in customer service to actually realize that they're worse off than most whores, genuinely. The idea of the abused whore is a fun tale but is no more common than any other abused worker. Physical violence as a sex worker isn't worse than having a robotic arm impale you at a factory for $11.50/hr and then have all your bosses threaten to destroy you if you sue. It just fucking isn't.
And if you've never worked a job that was degrading, humiliating, physically abusive, or emotionally ruining without doing sex work, you have immense privilege and need to keep your mouth GLUED SHUT. It is not worse to be stalked as a whore than it is to be stalked as a cashier. It just fucking isn't.

my absolute favourite FAVOURITE thing about john/alecto is that they are both each other’s fucked up little science project that got Very out of hand.
they are both simultaneously victor and the creature to each other at all times. they love each other they ARE each other, they are divorced and married at the same time. they (literally) can’t live without each other and each will be the other’s end. they still love each other despite this.

Seeing a steady rise of people using the library as we carry through summer break, so here's a quick thread from a staff member on little things you can do (for free!) to make life easier on staff. Let's go!
If you want to put a book back, DON'T put it back on the shelf! Put it on the return cart or bin, or give it to a staff member. Not only does this make it MUCH easier to catch misfiles and gather abandoned books in one trip, our budget is literally based on returns. Putting it on a cart gives us more money!
(To expand on the above: not only do we get paid more based on more returns, our book-buying budget for next year is based on what titles seem popular. Even if you don't check out a stack of books, putting it on the cart lets us know there's an interest so we can order more in that genre and support that author.)
Conversely, if you see a cart already full of books being pushed around by staff, PLEASE don't yank books off it or loiter around it. Carts are unwieldy and returns can build up quick, so let a shelver have space to move around and do their job.
(Again expanding on the above, especially please don't yank books off a staff person's cart if you see them pulling books off the shelf instead of putting them back. Books are pulled for a reason--hold requests for another patron, damaged, need to be relabeled, etc--so taking one can really throw off our list.)
If you rent a DVD and notice it's scratched or doesn't play, please tell us! We don't have the time or resources to watch every returned DVD, so we rely on patron feedback. Even a note tucked inside the case helps it get flagged for damage inspection when we're processing returns.
Pay attention to news related to your local branch! The VAST majority of book-banning demands we get are bulk lists from only one or two people--which means contesting them (or requesting a challenged book) also only takes one person.
Remind your friends that most libraries don't do late fees anymore! We want to be a safe haven for low income and disabled/nd people, so don't let being late or disorganized or poor or anything else discourage you. Bring your books back whenever you can, or just mention to a librarian if you lose it, and you're always welcome to come back.

Your parents are not "narcissists". They're typical authoritarian assholes who treat you like their property because society allows them to.
Your ex boyfriend is not a "narcissist". He's a typical misogynistic douchebag who treats women like shit because society allows him to.
Your boss is not a "narcissist". They're a typical classist dipshit who thinks workers' entire purpose in life is to generate profit because society allows them to.
And even if they happen to be a "narcissist", that's not what gave them the power to get away with abuse.
So stop blaming mental illness and start blaming society's normalization of abuse. Stop acting like someone has to have a mental illness in order to do something cruel when ordinary people have been doing atrocious things since forever.

Some Quick Character Tips
Here are a handful of quick tips to help you write believable characters!
1. A character’s arc doesn’t need to grow linearly. Your protagonist doesn’t have to go from being weak to strong, shy to confident, or novice to professional in one straight line. It’s more realistic if they mess up their progress on the way and even decline a bit before reaching their goal.
2. Their past affects their present. Make their backstory matter by having their past events shape them into who they are. Growing up with strict parents might lead to a sneaky character, and a bad car accident might leave them fearful of driving.
3. Give reoccurring side characters something that makes them easily recognizable. This could be a scar, a unique hairstyle, an accent, or a location they’re always found at, etc.
4. Make sure their dialogue matches their personality. To make your characters more believable in conversation, give them speech patterns. Does the shy character mumble too low for anyone to ever hear, does the nervous one pace around and make everyone else on edge?
5. Make your characters unpredictable. Real people do unexpected things all the time, and this can make life more exciting. The strict, straight-A student who decides to drink at a party. The pristine princess who likes to visit the muddy farm animals. When character’s decide to do things spontaneously or in the heat of the moment, it can create amazing twists and turns.
6. Give even your minor character’s a motive. This isn’t to say that all your characters need deep, intricate motives. However, every character should need or want something, and their actions should reflect that. What’s the motive behind a side character who follows your protagonist on their adventure? Perhaps they’ve always had dreams of leaving their small village or they want to protect your protagonist because of secret feelings.
