Today was my friend’s birthday, and I didn’t message them. AITA?

I (1037M) have a friend (1045M) who I don’t see very often, but we’re still relatively close. Close, as in we didn’t see each other for a couple decades, but we caught up and were back into old patterns like it had been no longer than a week.

Anyway, this friend is a bit of a social recluse for a couple of reasons and, although I send them updates on my life on occasion (and ask what they’re up to), I very rarely receive a response. I have other friends, though, and more than enough hobbies to keep me busy - so don’t feel too bad.

The other day, my wife (38F) brought up the fact that the friend’s birthday had just passed, and I’d forgotten to send a message. To be honest, I didn’t even know what day it was. I felt a little bad, but I also know that my friend doesn’t care. Still, should I have said something? It seems like it’s been too long now.

Finally convinced Indra and Ted to let me teach them how people actually celebrated Hanukah in the 21st century. I’ve never been particularly devout, but it’s discouraging to be the only person around who was raised in religion; everyone looks at me like I’m crazy!

On another note, it’s extremely difficult to find a proper menorah around here. Allegedly, there are a few small Jewish communities spread across the actual Earth, but none in Star City - so I’m out of luck until the museum lets me dig through their collection again tomorrow.
