Beside the Seaside: Ch 14
Chapter 14
āThis column here shows the room numbers and next to that, how many beds.ā The words were innocent enough, a simple instruction like sheād asked for ā this inn was her home now, her familyās business, and she wanted to know the running of it, should she need to pitch in. Jamieās mouth at her ear as he stood behind her and his hand splayed possessively over her hip and abdomen wereā¦ less innocent. Especially when he nipped at her earlobe.
āJamie.ā She spun in his arms, trapped by the wall of his chest and the front desk counter biting into her lower back. Her husband only grinned, unrepentant. āYouāre terrible at staying on task,ā she teased, feeling the tug of her own smile.
āI think Iām doing verra well, actually.ā His fingers traced a pattern over the small of her back. She knew she didnāt have any room to judge ā he damn near drove her to distraction with just his presence. Nevermind when he touched herā¦
She gave in and kissed him.

Chapter 13: Surprises
Claire and Jamie put in their training time leading up to their second game of suspension and then each went home to prepare for their date.
Jamie had kept Claire in the dark as to their plans again, but given how perfect theyād turned out the day before, she was content to have another surprise. They werenāt something she usually felt at ease about, but with Jamie, there hadnāt been a bad one yet.
Today she had time to wash and style her hair so her curls were fresh and fell softly on her shoulders. She put on light makeupā her favorite red lip gloss, eyeliner, and mascara. She chose her favorite little black dress that hit a couple inches above her knees and had wide tank straps that led to a heart shaped cut out in the back and dipped just low enough in the front to hint at her cleavage beneath it. Paired with a simple gold necklace, black ankle booties and a leather jacket, it felt versatile for whatever Jamie might have in store for them tonight and she was confident no one would recognize her as āCoach Bā wherever they went.

Jamie had never given much appreciation to the way the summer sun filtered through the bedroom window in the mornings, casting the bed in a golden glow, until he had someone in that bed with him, as vibrant as the sunbeams that caught the breadth of colors in her wild curls.Ā
His wife.

Wednesday 100: Reluctant Friendship
He knew he shouldnāt grow to care too much for Mistress Beauchamp. Dougal wouldnāt let up on her easily and there was work to do to gleam her motives, but he had watched her nearly every hour of the day for weeksā seen her care for the people of Drummuir when she neednāt, taken the brunt of her judgment when she aimed to protect their people, had a first row seat to her inability to be cowed when so many others would have folded. So, when those bawbags at the inn had called her a whore, Angus couldnāt stop himself.

From First to Home in progress chapter as Jamie and Claire begin their second date š
As she walked down the stairs, she caught him checking his reflection in the glass window of the door, running his fingers through his hair to make sure it fell just right. Her heart picked up its pace at the idea that the six-four man with the perfect athletic build, gorgeous auburn curls, most charming smile and kind eyes sheād ever seen would feel any physical insecurity with her. She opened the door and greeted him with a quick, soft kiss and ran her fingers through the hair heād just been primping. āHi,ā she smiled so widely that her cheeks hurt. He raked his eyes and up and down, taking her in. She raised her hand to nervously fidget with her hair, but he caught it with his own.

Wednesday 100: Wee Prankster
Jemmy snuck into his grandparentsā library before dinner with a souvenir from the twentieth century and placed it beneath Grannyās seat cushion before taking his place at the dining table. After their meal, the adults went to sit by the fire for a dram while the children chased each other about the New House. Jemmy waited by the door; Mandy came to drag him along but he shushed her, āshhhā¦wait a minute, will ye?ā Suddenly he heard a flatulent sound and Grandda chortle saying āSassenach, shall I walk ye to the privy?ā
āThat was not me!ā
Jemmy ran away snickering.

From First to Home Chapter 12
First Date
Before Jamie left Claireās the night before, they finally exchanged phone numbersā that last vestige of their denial gone. When he texted her that he got home safe as she was crawling into bed, she smiled just seeing his name pop up. She texted him good morning when she woke up and he replied immediately.
Jamie: Youāre just waking up, Sassenach? Iāve already been for a run!
Claire: Good, you need the extra work since you canāt play today, Red!
They had both been suspended two games after the fight on the field.
Jamie: Hmph, and what about you, Coach? Any plans without a game to occupy you?
Claire: I supposedly have plans, but havenāt heard any details yetā¦
Jamie: Iāll pick you up at 1:30.
Claire: See you then :)

Wednesday 100: A verra fine healer
Jamie fell asleep on the floor of Ardsmuir that night and found himself in a crowded room not of his time. There was a stage, but no players. Instead, one man stood at a lectern and men in robes lined up to the side. In the midst of them, one woman. Her curly wig was somehow tamed, but he knew it was her. They were all called one by one.
āDoctor Claire Randall.ā His wife walked across the stage and he wondered if she could feel him there as she looked out. His mouth drew up in a proud smile.

From First to Home: Chapter 11 Just to Talk
Claire and Jamie finally parted their lips when they had run out of breath. They each took a deep inhale and paused, defying the laws of physics by not returning to one another. The reality of where they were hitāthe team was still on the field, but soon there would be stragglers. They sighed each otherās names, āJamieā¦ā and āClaire..ā coming out in unison, and chuckled at the ridiculousness of it.
āMebbe we should,ā Jamie cleared his throat before continuing, āpause fer now?ā
Claire started to tuck one of her errant tendrils behind her ear, but Jamie finished the job for her, lingering on her cheek before letting his hand fall. āYes, I think we should, consideringā¦ā she gestured to the lockers surrounding them.

āCome āere, Sassenach,ā Jamie pulls me in by my hips.
āJamie, Iām covered inā¦ā I gesture widely to myself, knowing the childrenās sick could be anywhere at this point. A stomach bug has been tearing through the house while he was away.
āIt doesna matter,ā his eyes crinkle and he wraps a finger in my hair as he dips a rag in the wash basin, wiping away what he finds as he rakes his eyes over me. āThank ye for caring for the bairns, lay down and rest. Iāll take them now.ā He tucks me into bed, kissing my temple.
