okay time for my regularly scheduled monthly rant about transphobia in the one piece fandom. specifically i wanna talk about how people treat yamato's dream to be oden because nothing inspires more anger in me.

dreams are so so so important in one piece. literally everybody knows that. the entire series is built around chasing your dreams, regardless of how impossible or ridiculous they are. yamato's desire to be oden will be played for jokes sometimes whenever he takes it too literally and addresses momonosuke as son, but the core of it is portrayed seriously by the narrative.

the samurai in his backstory fed him because they respected his drive to be oden. kaido abused him for years because of his dream but yamato never let that crack him. he helped save wano and was prepared to carry on oden's dream to open up the country on his own before learning that the nine red scabbards were back. he even learned from oden's past mistakes and choose not to abandon the country in its time of need and set out to sea, even though he's been imprisoned his entire life and has no concrete obligation to stay behind. his dream is treated just the same as anyone else's.

yamato wanting to oden has the same significance as luffy wanting to be pirate king. oden means freedom to him, and being a man is apart of that freedom.

so when people miss that and say hes "just a delusional girl" i feel like tearing shit apart with my teeth.

when has one piece EVER been about disrespecting someone's dream. can you imagine if the fandom reacted similarly with any other character? if people said sanji was delusional for wanting to find the all blue because it couldn't possibly exist? or that usopp was delusional for thinking he could be a great warrior of the sea? saying something like that would cause a fucking flame-war.

and yet its fine when that treatment is directed at yamato. which is, of course, because of transphobia. his gender being tied to his dream makes it something to be laughed at.

I never want to hear another complaint or people calling Punkflower shippers pedophiles when I constantly have to see MiguelxGwen or MiguelxMiles fics pop up on ao3 (I’ve had to pre block them before every search because there are too many of them) Like there are people shipping and writing the most problematic shit but no let’s complain about the two black boys people ship. Y’all deluded as hell.

Hobie is obviously not an adult. Y’all just aldultifying another black kid to sexualize him and want to feel comfortable sexualizing him for yourselves.

Again why would would an adult’s primary friend group be 15/16 year olds if he’s not also a teen? Why is it, that guys think it’s more likely for a 25 year old man to be best friends with teenagers than that he’s just a tall black teen.

Y’all jump through hoops to defend your racist homophobic bullshit. Don’t think I didn’t see you guys also trying to claim Margo is an adult because she’s one in the comics, she, like other comic characters, were aged down for atsv. But the moment she, a black girl, was shipped with a black boy (Miles) y’all were quick to say she was an adult to.

Y’all just a mix of weirdos wanting to sexualize black teens who also don’t want them shipped with other black characters because your ships seem to need to require at least one white person every time.

With the way some of yall be tryna claim that margo, hobie, or prowler miles is over 18, if it wasn't stated that 1610-miles was 15 more than once in the movie i bet yall would've been saying hes an adult to.

How people are treating Hobie Brown, and British punks / people as a whole, reeks of classism, privilege and plain ignorance. It's so painfully obvious when somebody who has no clue about punk history, or even the basic idea of poverty in Britain, writes about or speaks about Hobie and his universe.

Let's also discuss the way people immediately assume Hobie is a thief who has no hygiene, and how that's a god damn issue. There is NO mention in the comics or movie of him not washing himself or being a kleptomaniac, not only that, but aren't wicks hard to maintain? It's obvious he doesn't use 3 in 1.

This assumption of Hobie is racism and that much is obvious, but is also rooted in classist beliefs and common stereotypes about punks used to demonise the movement. People also threw around this 'headcanon' in the first movie with Miles, it's a CLEAR pattern.

Don't even get me started on cishet people in this fandom and how heteronormative / homophobic people are in regards to Hobie. 'B-But Hobies universe is the 70's 🥺🥺 he'd hate gay and trans people...👉👈' Do your god damn research?? The punk and LGBTQ+ movements have always been closely intertwined. I have seen a comic panel where Hobie literally kisses Captain Anarchy, but even if that isn't real and was edited, he is still friends with Captain Anarchy, who's a confirmed gay man.

All in all, please, for the love of god, just treat Hobie Brown like you treat Peter Parker. Treat him like the well written character that he is. He's not some racist, classist stereotype you can push your bigoted beliefs onto.

Just wait until I get onto how misogynistic this fandom is toward Spiderbyte and Spidergwen, don't get me started because I will make another post.

I stg if i see one more person trying to claim that margo is an adult, or that her and miles are more like siblings under a flowerbyte post im going to go crazy.

It's like some of yall cant comprehend the fact that two poc can be shipped together, because anytime there is a ship in a fandom that does not contain a white person, yall will either say that their relationship is a sibling one or find any reason as to why they cant be shipped.

the fact that theres a lot of racism in a fandom for a movie with many poc characters in it is really crazy if we are being honest.
