it's so sad that the innies think the outies have all this life and freedom that has been denied to them and meanwhile mark is a depressed alcoholic who lives only in dim lighting, helena cuts eggs in pieces so small the fork shouldn't be able to lift them to her mouth, dylan and gretchen's marriage is desintegrating, all irving has is black coffee and black paint and the black hole of vengeance that wants to swallow him whole... it's just so fucking sad they have the physical means to reach for and grasp all the happiness denied to the innies and they still can't. they're too damaged to. they've drawn a chalk circle of hell around themselves and they never step out of it. the innies' lust for life is the only thing that will help them break the cycle. we can't, we can't, i'm ready, we can't, i'm ready, i'm ready, i'm ready.

I need a scene where Mark Scout gets an email from Helena Eagan and calls her up immediately to discuss how ridiculous her request is.
"Hey, ummm, so I got your email."
"I appreciate the verbal confirmation, and you KNOW I can't get enough school girl endorphin rush that IS talking on the phone with you💕, but...the whole point of getting an email is that you return the favor by sending me a reply email...that's the whole---"
"NO, I KNOW WHAT AN EMAIL IS..."
"Ok, good..." Helena was smiling wide. Mark was not. An awkward pause hung over them like a stench.
Mark just got annoyed and read the email to prove a point. "Dear future husband-to-be (nothing off-putting there at all😑) umm...we JUST STARTED dating, Hells...anyway... please reply to this email with 9 bullets ( I'm assuming the whole 9 core principles thingy?? )...of what you accomplished last week to improve our relationship and cc Seth Milchick & Natalie Kalen. Deadline is this Monday at 11:59pm Kier, PE Standard time. So many thoughts. SOOO many thoughts...
Tumblr media
"Well, if you have all these thoughts...why not simply (Both saying in unison) EMAIL THEM..."
"So you saw another billionaire send an email to federal workers, and thought hey...I'll do that for my boyfriend???"
"Elon is a friend of the company, Mark."
"Of course he is."
*awkward silence*
"You'll have a reply before the deadline."😑🥵 Mark secretly liked any notification saying Helena was thinking about him.💕

“They might change course-”
My dude.
Dan knows what the final scene is. He predicts he can get there in Season 3 or 4. He has known the final scene for years. He described it as “I’ve always envisioned this very specific scene in mind. I have a clear end point in mind.”
Tumblr media
That’s extremely specific. 🧍🏼‍♀️That’s how you know a creator has a solid vision.
He won’t change. Season 2 was a set-up for it.

Mark kept a French propaganda poster from WW1 in his home office. This shot is centred on the poster, with Mark looking off the side.
The words “Help me…!” are highlighted.
Two empty scotch glasses sit next to him. One still has a bit of alcohol left inside of it. He’s drinking by himself in the middle of the day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Pour le dernier quart d’heure…”
Translation: “For the last half hour…”
The poster is lying that the war is almost over. That it can be won if supporters send money. That it’s going to end in 15 minutes. He clings to the idea that he and his wife are just going through a “phase,” that this is just the last tough stretch before things improve—just like the propaganda war poster claims victory if only citizens keep believing and contributing.
“Aidez-moi…!”
“Help me...!”
Tumblr media
This plea could represent his internal desperation, which he refuses to say out loud in his marriage or in general as his mental health declines.
Instead of asking his wife for help or admitting what’s not working, he might channel his need for help into external distractions—like alcohol, lectures, or overworking.
Helly later becomes the first person he’s actually honest with—someone he doesn’t need to perform “noble suffering” around.
Tumblr media
Context: France in 1917-1918 was totally worn out.
The war had dragged on longer than expected. These types of posters are state propaganda because they reduce the brutal, messy reality of WWI to an idealized / romanticized narrative to manipulate the general public of France.
No mention of the trauma, disillusionment, or class inequalities—just a narrative. Sort of like this episode brushes over Mark’s role in the dissipation of his marriage since he hasn’t faced his own trauma with alcoholism that started with his father since he was a child.
Tumblr media
(Confirmed by Devon Scout Hale in Season 1.)
Tumblr media
So the “help me!” is a double edged sword. The propaganda is for you to feel emotional and to help through sending money, but the real message is seemingly “help me break out of this manipulated / idealized narrative.”
Which he does in the final episode.

do we think helena is going to blame herself for drummond's death bc she didn't warn anyone about mark's plan and then mark killed him... one more thing for her to hate herself for as mark scout tries to convince her he hates her too yay

I think the first thing Innies do when they wake up reveals something innate about their Outie selves.
On a psychological level, they’re still the same human beings.
Helena Eagan waking up — Refusing to answer questions, trying to get out. Banging on the door. She’s trapped by her Eagan lifestyle.
Automatic Stress Repsonse: Flight.
Tumblr media
People flee when they assume their captor is more powerful or more aggressive than them. Just like how Helena is scared of her father.
Fleeing is smart and instinctual in this case.
Mark Scout waking up — Threatening to kill the person talking to him. Arguing with the intercom. Mark Scout is extremely angry and needed an outlet (in this case, a disembodied voice.) This anger gets beaten into submission with time as he slowly becomes Mark S.
Automatic Stress Response: Fight.
Tumblr media
This can be caused by alcohol in his system, past trauma linked to using violence to protect himself or even his personality if he’s more assertive, reactive or dominant.
In a way, they wake up as the “purest” form of themselves. Then they gradually adopt their own personas — Mark S and Helly R.
