ODYSSEUS X POLITES HEADCANONS 𓈒 ✦ ࣪

all the headcanons ahead are based on if the two were romantically involved or were very “fond” of each other.

Pre Cyclops Saga:

• Polites is fond of affection, specifically physical touch, anytime Odysseus’ proudly pats his back or hooks an arm around the others neck he can’t help but feel the slightest heat rise to his face, Odysseus is aware of this but he enjoys teasing his comrade.

• Odysseus has always been guarded and cautious with the world, but the same applies to his heart, he’s never considered himself an easily loveable person and tends to draw away from people’s advances — however, it’s different with Polites, he feels a pure sense of comfort and admiration with him unlike anyone else, Polites is the only person that can make him feel so safe.

• Polites is the type of person to gift things to people he loves, he will often find little trinkets on their small adventures and give them to Odysseus if he thinks they’re pretty enough, this usually consists of things like flowers, shells, rocks and etc, consider it an autistic trait.

• Odysseus can sometimes struggle with communication when it comes to someone he loves, so instead he would write his feelings down into a diary and store it away, this is his way of “hiding his emotions”, he can’t show fear or weakness in his mind, he’s the king? How could he… but Polites? Polites was able to soften that strong exterior, Odysseus melted into Polites’ arms whenever he held him, he felt like home, loving him felt like breathing.

Post Cyclops Saga:

• Odysseus is haunted by the sound of Polites voice, despite him not being there, he still feels him, smells him, hears him… he’s a haunting nightmare but a beautiful memory, he tries to reach out but all he can do is sit and accept the loss of his love.

• Odysseus took Polites’ headband after the horrible accident that occurred with Polythemus, he has it wrapped around his sword to remind him how Polites was always there to hold him and soothe him in his hardest times of need, he hopes for a day of peace where can finally put down his sword and let both him and Polites finally rest.
