Final Project Show
As we cannot have a Final Show due to the Coronavirus, I have made a model of what my show would have looked like.
To create the model I painted the inside of a box white and used the corner to create a mock-up show with some mini LED lights.

This is what my show might have looked like. With a title displayed underneath. I could also have a stools in the corner to sit on & look at the book.

Considering a Book
This is something I would consider to have at my final show. It would include all of my favourite photos from all of the shoots in high quality to view in a book as you are viewing the final display.

Title: A Spring Orchard Final Chosen Layout
Name Ideas:
Apple Trees In Spring Spring Apples - A Spring Orchard Orchards In Spring An Orchard An Orchard In Springtime Springtime Blossom
I chose this layout above because it gives me the chance to show off a collection of images and for the viewer to really get an idea of what a spring orchard looks like. The photos display many aspects of an orchard from a detailed blossom to a single tree to rows of trees, trunk and bark and the shadows they create. I have chosen my best examples from each of these parts of the orchard. I enjoyed visiting the orchards many times and Somerset is well known for many local varieties special to the area and orchards are easy to find.
I tried my final layout with black borders but I think that the separation that white gives allows the black and white images not to merge into each other.

Apple Tree in Blossom 3x3 Tile
I liked this three by three layout more because with each tile you see different objects to look at. Bottom middle you have the grass and the trunk with the tree guard, the leaning tree in the background of bottom right has similar angles with the branches in the bottom left. At the top of the tiles they each have different branches in different directions with the shading of the sky and they would make good images on their own.

Apple Tree in Blossom 2x2 Tile
I chose this as an option as I like the picture and I think it works quite well. I don’t feel the the layout is very challenging or interesting enough to give the viewer much to question or think about. I went onto the next division which I prefer.

My Past A Level Photography Project
For my final A-Level Photography project i also used a layout quite like this to display my final project.

In this project i displayed the many knives that can be used in the orchard and the different shapes they have.

Apple Wood - 3x2 layout
These images are focusing on the structure and bark of the trees, mostly on the trunk. They show the texture and strength of each tree and give you another way of looking at a tree from quite close up rather than at a distance looking at the whole shape. I do not feel that the subject is strong on its own or that I would use for my final piece.

Shadows - 2x2 & 4x1 layouts
This is another possible arrangement as I noticed there are such wonderful shadows from the trees in the afternoon sun. I have selected the four strongest images from the 3x3 shadows. I feel the subject matter really is the shadows and not the trees.
Shadows - 4x1
In this arrangement I changed the layout of the above four images into a row of four. i was thinking about the progression of the viewer moving from the edge of the orchard closer to a tree like in the layout ‘One Tree - 3x1′ which ended at right up to the bark. This one takes you right up to the tree and then down to the shadow on the ground.
I have also experimented with a black background in this layout and I will keep it as an option for my final.

Four Trees - 2x2 layout
This two by two layout shows four different trees from different orchards. I have grouped them together to show the variation of shapes, sizes, structure of the branches and presence that different aged apple trees can hold. For example the tree in the top right is young and has branches that curve and will bend down when they are laden with fruit but bottom left is a much more upright growing young tree. Even though the trees are different you can still identify them all as apple trees and because of the layout your eyes with move backwards and forwards comparing them looking for similarities and differences.

Orchard Shadows - 3x3 layout
This collection came to mind as a possible arrangement as I noticed there are such wonderful shadows from the trees in the afternoon sun. Some of them are quite dense (e.g. top row) and others give a lacy effect. The one in the middle is particularly good as it gives a speckled texture to the trunk.
I can imaging this layout working well for my final display and I will put some other images together in this arrangement.

Old Orchards - 3x1 layout
These three images each display an old tree in an orchard. They show how apple trees are hardy and even when they are effected by weather, damage and age they continue to blossom and fruit every year, even in difficult circumstances. On the left its interesting to see the more random shape that an older tree can grow into. In the middle we can see the damage that the weight of the apples can do to the branches and trunk of the tree & we can see that the growth is on the outside rings of the trunk. On the right the tree has fallen. As it grows the branches still grow up to the sky from the lying trunk in its continuing push to grow and produce fruit.

Blossom - 3x1 layout
This layout highlights the blossom on apple trees at this time of year. the photo on the left is a mature tree heavily covered in blossom, I was very happy with the interest of clouds in the sky and the shadows bellow. The centre photograph zooms in on a branch festooned with flowers, along with the shadows make and ideal subject for black and white photography. The final photo on the right shows a detailed image of just one cluster of flowers which you can look at more closely. I chose this order as your eyes will sweep from left to right through the images with the photos getting closer and closer to the subject.

One Tree - 3x1 layout
This layout shows a full frame tree on the left frame with some mistletoe in the top to give extra interest and side shadows on the ground and wispy clouds in the sky. The middle shot looks into the tree in greater detail showing some texture and patterns in the branches and shadows. The trees In the rest of the orchard can still be seen at the bottom of the photo. Finally on the right I get even closer to the tree with a detailed photograph of the bark on the trunk. You can see texture and shadow in more depth.

The next few posts are different test layouts for groups of themes, different experiments for how to display my final piece.
I have decided to display multiple images together rather than a single image. It is a collection of photographs on the theme of orchards.

Shoot Three Favourites
For shoot three I went back yet again to the orchard in Sutton Montis and took more photos taking into mid the developments that I needed from the other shoots.

For this photo of a complete apple tree I remembered to include the same distance at the top and the bottom of the photo between the tree and the frame so that it was even, I like this photo because it displays a whole apple tree in its full extent.

I like this photo because the bark on the branches are in focus and create a great texture which frames the twigs, blossom and leaves behind.

This photo creates a depth of field behind the trunk. The trunk is in focus and creates a great texture in the black and white & the orchard behind runs into the distance.

This view down one of the avenues in an orchard in Sparkford shows the trees in full leaf creating shadows in black and white giving dark areas in contrast to the bright sky on a sunny day. Trees planted in straight lines are a huge feature of old and modern orchards.

Favourite photos & tests from second shoot
These are some of my favourite photos from my second shoot on my mobile.

This photo of some apple blossom is great, I think the blossom is perfectly in focus with a great background blur on the orchard behind, I like the leading line of the branch leading across the frame with the main focus in the centre of the blossom.

This was a colour test of a main orchard photo, i love the colours in this photograph but I still want to keep the project black and white to keep with the old fashioned feel.

This photo I also like from the shoot, it shows a photo looking up into the trees, the branches and the sky create a great texture and the blossom creates a connection with the detail in the photo.

This blossom photo I like because it shows the amazing textures in the leaves and the petals, The flowers aren’t quite in focus but I think the layout and texture is amazing anyway.
