08.05.21
my islamic history professor published his class online a couple of weeks ahead of time and posted a source that we will be utilizing for our first discussion, so i decided i would get a head start.
on another note: i am also taking an introduction to the old testament class as well and have read the intros to some of the text sections. learning about christianity, judaism, and islam all at once has my mind very muddled.

Why Motivation Can Lead You To Failure?
It can. Let me explain. We live in a world of motivational speaking and there’s a huge niche on all social media platforms about productivity and motivation and whatnot (the only qualm I have is that they shouldn’t put titles of how I stay motivated to do this and that because half is at least bullshit which I am elaborating further). We all have been there where we are scrolling through YouTube looking for ‘How to stop procrastinating ?’ or something along these lines and feeling the guilt kicking in and yet we feel unable to stop ourselves and more guilt kicks in and what we really are looking for is something motivating enough to close the app and get our work done and at the end of the day we wonder why are we not motivated enough? The thing is and I learnt it the hard way but I did from James Scholz (who does 12 hour study livestreams on YT) was that ‘motivation is futile. If you rely on motivation, you’re essentially setting yourself up for a failure.’ And it just hit me in the face because so much of our work would’ve been done, if it weren’t for lack of motivation. The thing about motivation is that when you’re motivated to get your work done, it’s all great but you’ll feel the need to fuel yourself up every few hours. It is very futile and you’re not gonna have it always. So I have inculcated this thing in me where I don’t pay any attention to motivation and whether or not I have that desire to conquer the world , if I am going to work, I am going to do it and not doing it is then not beyond my abilities(as a consequence of lack of motivation), it’s a choice I make consciously. It’s very liberating too that I’m my own master and can direct my own actions. So stop seeking motivation to study, work hard and whatever you need to do, just do it if you need to do it because 📌You. Do. Not. Need. Motivation. To. Study.📌

How to Start Studying
Sometimes it's really hard and annoying to start studying so I've compiled a few tips that will help you to start studying:
1. clear a study space
Clean your workspace for 5-10 minutes before your study session so you’ll feel super motivated to get working. There’s something about having a decluttered desk that will make you feel so organized it will make you want to sit behind the desk & study!
2. get all the items you will need
all motivation goes down the drain when you have to get up multiple times to get every item you need so getting all the essentials before studying really helps.
3. grab some water and snacks
staying hydrated while studying is very important and you can never go wrong with snacks :)
4. get rid of all distractions
Turn off your phone or put it on DND to help you focus. Some people do study better with music but it's better to have music with no lyrics because if you are like me you will just end up singing and jamming to the song instead of studying xD
5. make a list
Write down all the tasks you need to accomplish, breaking the bigger ones down into smaller, bite-sized pieces.
6. start with something easy
The idea is that it’s something that you can just knock out without much brainpower but that doesn’t waste time. It also gives you sense of accomplishment and boosts your motivation to continue working.
7. use a system
I personally use the Pomodoro Technique. It’s great at keeping you focused. I usually study for 75 min and take a 15 min break since it works best for me. It doesn’t really matter what system you use to study – find something that works for you and stick to it.
8. make it a habit
If you turn studying into a daily habit, you won’t even have to think about starting anymore because you’re so used to it. Don’t question it, I just do it!
9. dont strive for perfection
Let that strive for perfection go, as it will take you a lot longer to finish the work. This will make your study experience less fun and more stressful which will make starting next time harder. So instead of wanting to do your work perfectly, try to focus on getting it done.
10. make it fun and enjoyable
burn a candle, put on some music, whatever helps you to get started.
i hope these are useful!! :) -love pika☁️

07.18.21. i've realized that i'm most productive in the morning, but i have to be at work at 9am sharp. solution: waking up early, dragging my limp, uncaffeinated body to the library, and trying to work on postbacc apps for an hour before work. being an adult... wouldn't recommend.

there isn’t much happening atm but just me watching aesthetic study vlogs all day long. i’ve also managed to accomplish the following:
finished all my pending journal reviews
paid current month’s credit card bill
ordered new bed sheet with floral design
started reading another dostoyevsky story
i plan to save up enough money thru my part-time writing job so i can buy a new gadget that i’ve been eyeing on since i got addicted to watching study vlogs, haha!

13 march | 12:02pm
a Black-owned coffee shop near me has indoor masked seating, so i drove over here around 9am to get some work done before a LinkedIn coffee date at 1pm. I am almost done (sort of) studying for ochem so I can complete this problem set due monday. Now, I’m taking a break by reading for Music and Film. We love to see it!
