If you take your socks off and stand on the floor with one foot and use the opposite foot, leg, hip to move the freeFORM Board around through different angles and planes of motion, you’ll see so much neuromuscular and tendon activation through that stable foot and ankle.
You can experiment with direction of movement, range of motion, speed and depending on your or your clients ability, you can also try small, fast oscillating movements or rapid changes of direction.
So now think about what it’s like when you begin to add uneven or unstable surfaces under the otherwise stable foot?
This is a great exercise for athletes that play multidirectional reactive running sports and also for hiking on uneven surfaces.
There are also many ways to make this exercise more or less challenging for anyone undertaking ankle rehab due to overuse, trauma or post surgery.

This is a particularly impressive demonstration by elite diver @hannah_diving under the expert tuition of @pilatesinsync
Many of the movements that the freeFORM Board was specifically designed for are out of the reach of most people so it’s inspiring to see an athlete with acrobatic type skills using many of the unique movements that the freeFORM Board supports.
There are a number of exercises performed on a docked and unlocked (low friction rotation disk) mode that require a lot of proprioception, balance and stability as well as coordination.
Then there are the exercises on the unlocked and undocked board. It’s interesting that driving is performed mostly in empty space and other sports are performed on the flat, solid and stable ground.
freeFORM provides some of the freedom of movement of open space with some of the weight bearing of a supporting surface.
Also note the circular pikes and then, follow the path the board travels in the teaser exercise where it draws a long and wide arc across the floor.
Apart from the technical aspects, it’s beautiful with watch someone moving so gracefully and what looks like effortlessly.

A beautiful fluid sequence of Pilates inspired exercises by @bradleeon or @leeonstudiopilates
Brad starts with some roll outs to plank, tucks, single leg tucks, a lateral (what I call) a long pendulum on the frontal plane for the obliques, a supported jump through to a rear support / supine plank position finishing with a cross legged forward bend stretch.
The freeFORM Board was designed for seamless flows like these, the size, shape, wheel design and location and so many factors had to be built into the boards.

There was so much good content in this video that I cut it in half to focus on the upper limb and torso mobility.
There is son really nice thoracic extension and rotation as well as lateral flexion.
In terms of the muscles, it’s an excellent stretch for the lats, quadratus lumborum, posterior deltoid, rhomboids and middle traps.
This sequence is a great antidote to sitting for to long, for too much screen time and generally for a stiff lower and upper back and shoulders.

Love these video montages because they showcase so many exercises and variations. In this case integrating the freeFORM Board both docked and undocked with the Pilates Wunda Chair and the Pilates Reformer.
I love to see the freeFORM Board used in the context of a toolbox of both small and large equipment or apparatus.
My spine feels better just seeing that side bend on the chair with the hip extension on the board…
Too many effective and creative moves@to unpack but this video does a great job of showcasing product integrations and product versatility.
I describe the freeFORM Board as “infinity in every direction” and this is like infinity multiplied which makes no sense mathematically but can potentially broaden our minds conceptually.

Side rollout vs side reverse roll out. Of course this loads the obliques but if you’re familiar with the concept of myofascial line, you’ll note that the lateral hip and upper leg muscles plus the upper back and shoulder muscles are also under a largely eccentric load.
There are ways to increase and decrease the load to make the exercise more accessible or more challenging.
