With the exception of Liam’s stupid, broad shouldered, entirely too big mate, the one who always comes over to watch sports with him. Louis hates that guy. His hair is always greasy and he brings weird hipster beer with him when he comes that tastes like shit. And he won’t even let Louis have any of it, either. The only reason Louis even knows what it tastes like is because one time he stole a bottle from the fridge and fled to his room before Harry could catch him.

3) I Would Follow You (To The Moon And Back) | Explicit | 20355 words

Everyone has baggage, some people sleepwalk, some have obsessive exes, and others turn into anthropomorphic wolf-like monsters that destroy furniture and run rampant in the forest. Perfectly normal.

smell the sea, feel the sky by @lightwoodsmagic (E, 16K) This is the perfect summer pining fic. I love that they’re adults and still the same horny, pining fools for each other and it still works. It’s just very sexy, light, and fun.

sensitive to pressure by momentofclarity / @gaycousinlarry (E, 4K) This is so well written and so sexy (and filthy in the best kind of way). I love the overwhelm and the heady rush of a secret relationship. So much captured in so few words.

But When We Kiss by @indiaalphawhiskey (E, 8K) At last this author has graced us with another fic and it’s a filthy, fantastic Sugar Baby Harry fic. Hallelujah! But seriously, their writing is so good, the dynamics are so hot, and Harry is just the perfect kind of desperate in this one. Go read it! 

Whoever, However by Brooklyn_Babylon / @twopoppies (E, 9K) Yes, this one is mine. So, I can’t really give you a review on it, but it’s got plenty of dirty talk. Here’s the summary:

Louis could feel his heart rate pick up as he positioned the camera and Harry slowly stood up. They both knew what came next –– it had been clearly outlined in the advert Harry answered. The studio Louis worked for was filming a new series of camboy videos. Louis’ job was to make it look like amateur porn –– sweaty, sensual, dirty –– but well lit and edited. Talk Dirty To Me by BriaMaria / @briannamarguerite (E, 13K) So….dirty talk is one of my favorite things in a fic. And when it’s done well it’s…god, it’s so, so good. And this fic does it so well. It’s simultaneously funny, and tender, and incredibly sexy. Dirty talk, friends to lovers, uni AU…what more could you ask for? Great writing? Yeah, got that too. Go read it!

Are You Gonna Be My Girl? by LoadedGunn (E, 8K) I love, LOVE a bit of feminization and Harry in lingerie. This one does it so well. 

Never Never Never Stop for Anyone (Sheylinsonverse) by aimmyarrowshigh, spibsy (lucy_and_ramona) Yes, here I am again, putting this series on a list. Did you think I’d give you a smutty fic rec without this one? No, you know I wouldn’t. I have read all 440K words more than once, and will likely do it a few more times. Yes, it needs editing, but even so…really well written, super sexy (if you like reading BDSM and can handle Larry + someone else), and such good character development.

buttercup baby by cabinbythesea (NR, 16K) Friends to lovers, alternating POV, and lots of smut. Happy days! The flirting and build up to the smut was one of my favorite parts. 

in this dress by cabinbythesea (NR, 5K) Godddd…this one is really, really so gritty and sexy. I really loved the push and pull flirting Harry does in this one. And of course, I can’t resist a fic with Harry in a dress inspired by the Lights Up director’s cut. Side note, there’s some steamy smut, even though it’s NR. 

we can take the long way home by eleadore (E, 27K) I know I’ve recc’d this before, but it’s just beautiful. Perfectly paced. Gentle, sexy, moving. The miscommunication works so well, as does the final confession. The dirty talk revolves around the breeding kink — but it’s more of an overwhelm and realization of what Harry could have if Louis was his. Still hot af as far as I’m concerned. 

I’d do Niall by alongthewatchtower (E, 8K) I know this fic isn’t for everyone and I also know it’s pure filth. But I love everything about it. Dirty talk, Harry in panties, overwhelmed Harry, Niall trying it and not knocking it, Dom Louis vibes…all the good stuff. LOL! This author also has a handful of others that I’m a big fan of.

honey is it time to spin by alongthewatchtower (NR, 4K) I mean…pure filth. Strangers to lovers, age difference, all sorts of kinks…like I said. Filth. 

someone who knows how to ride by orphan_account (E, 3K) I mean…I love a bit of demanding Louis using Harry and topping from the bottom. This is just a bit of filthy PWP and I love it. 

let’s talk about making love by istajmaal (E, 25K) Oh, phone sex operator fics, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. 

Thought The Song Was Sung by 100percentsassy (E, 13K) This is both a famous/not famous and a dating app AU. Plus, older Larry. Plus phone sex. Plus an author who writes great fic. And this one is just sweet and charming and I really like this one.  

Never Mind the Furthermore by Anonymous (E, 7K) I’m always a sucker for phone sex and dirty talk, plus throw in pining Harry and I’m sold! Loved the light way this is written and the well done OT5 friendship.

‘cause lately i’ve been waking up alone by sarcasticfluentry (E, 6K) I love the way this author writes smut and banter, so this is one of my faves. Plus, Harry makes a clone-a-willy of himself as a gift. And phone sex. 

Another Day Gettin’ Into Trouble by whoknows (E, 26K) what would this fandom be without two clone-a-willy fics? I haven’t read this one in years, but my notes say it was tender and sexy so…

no pressure, no diamonds ‘verse by karamelised (E, 5 works, 71K) These fics are SO good – really fun, original story, great characterizations, crazy hot smut…plus, there are five fics! Dirty talk throughout (I believe the phone sex is only work 5).

Switch Out The Batteries by istajmaal, LoadedGunn (E, 88K) Just….holy shit So, one of the things I really love about this fic is that because it’s dual POV, you get this story told from both the Dom POV and the Sub POV which makes it super fun and interesting. These authors always write truly amazing smut and this is no exception.

Or, the one where Harry wants to get over his crush on Louis, so he makes a Grindr account to find someone new. Of course, Louis messages him, not realizing H’s real identity. It only takes a few days for them to figure it out.

He turns to Niall, jaw dropped and asks in bewilderment, “Did you hear that?”

“Don’t fucking talk to me, Haz,” Niall snaps. He stands up and approaches the door to his room. “All you had to do was stay on base.”

Or: Harry’s fraternity has become obsessed with the newest online game, and they’d like to think they’re getting pretty good at it. Only, they keep getting killed by The Rogue, an online player who has no connection to the Frat, but seems to have a vendetta against them.

Switch Out The Batteries by istajmaal, LoadedGunn (#, 88K) Just….holy shit So, one of the things I really love about this fic is that because it’s dual POV, you get this story told from both the Dom POV and the Sub POV which makes it super fun and interesting. These authors always write truly amazing smut and this is no exception. I actually love the first part of this series, but it’s not necessary to read it first (and I didn’t include it because there’s no daddy kink in it, but it’s so good).

like poison coursing through me by orphan_account (E, 4K) Kink exploration and dirty talk. Two of my favorite things! (this is not a Sound of Music reference).

show me devotion by mercutionotromeo (E, 1.4K) This is one of my favorite authors when it comes to smutty fic, and this one is just sexy and gentle with lots of banter. I loved the way they contrasted their teen years with current behavior. So well done.

Day 27: My Heart Belongs to Daddy by 100percentsassy (E, 8K) This fic is from the 30-Day Smut Challenge and it’s one of my favorites from that collection. So much smutty goodness wrapped up in an established relationship fic.

if they find out, will it all go wrong? by blankiehxrry (E, 3K) This little canon fic is another one that packs a lot in. Gender identity exploration, daddy kink, feminization… all the good stuff

give me forever for a while by mercutionotromeo (E, 5K) This one involves a collar, but in a slightly different way – this time it’s kitten play. I always love the way this author writes their smut and this one is full of dirty talk and soft dom Louis using Harry.

skip a beat and move with my body by crybaby (E, 6K) Harry, Louis, Zayn. So, Harry and Louis are roommates. Harry kinda sorta pays his rent by sleeping with Louis. And anyone else he wants to share Harry with. It’s filthy and I kind of love it.

Run and I’ll Give Chase by orphan_account (E, 25K) Yes, I’m recommending you a vampire fic complete with mind-reading. I really liked the characterizations in this one; the way Harry wants Louis, but is afraid to want him, and then finally gives in? So good!

into another (another) serotonin overflow by mercutionotromeo (E, 11K) I love the way this author captures the overwhelm of teenage lust and pining in this one. And at the same time, there’s something so gentle about the way the two of them are with each other.

daddy daddy cool by sky_reid (E, 7K) This author always writes super smutty smut and this one is no exception. If daddy kink isn’t your thing, skip this one. But if it is…man it’s good.

a million roses (bathed in rock n’ roll) by deLILAh (E, 30K) Honestly this is such a satisfying read. I love how the author jumps through time, highlighting moments and I love how their relationship grows and matures.

Fertile Ground by Blake (E, 4K) This author explores gender and body acceptance in a way I haven’t seen done much in this fandom, and their writing is so moving. Like, every line packs a punch. This one, in particular, is such a moving portrait of Harry’s struggles with how others see him and how he sees himself, and Louis’ support as they figure it out together.

a love reaction by tilthesundies (E, 10K) This is one of the few Daddy Harry fics I really like––their characterizations work really well in this one. friends to lovers, jealous Harry… some good shit.

we’ve people to see (let’s put ‘em on hold) by orphan_account (E, 7K) I mean… riding the subway and you meet someone who turns out to be your sexual soulmate? Perfectly believable. This one is hot and funny at the same time.

jump in the deep end by istajmaal (E, 5K) I just love their dynamic in this one and this author (as I’ve said above) writes some of my favorite smut.

🍌Embarrassment / Humiliation Kink 

do you know me by heart by HappyPrincess (E, 7K) Read the tags on this one because it’s really visceral, raw, and real. The writing was intense in the best of ways, but this is not a fluffy fic.

i cannot reach your heart by HappyPrincess (E, 10K) This is the second part to the one just above and it’s equally as well written, and has just a hint more happiness for these characters.

Sonic Sounds by glasscushion (E, 6K) So, so smutty and such a sexy exploration of kink discovery.

Only Write By The Moon by glasscushion (E, 5K) This is basically pure smut, but this author has such a beautiful way with words…even smut sounds poetic.

in this dress by cabinbythesea (NR, 5K) Godddd…this one is really, really so gritty and sexy. I really loved the push and pull flirting Harry does in this one. And of course, I can’t resist a fic with Harry in a dress inspired by the Lights Up director’s cut. Side note, there’s some steamy smut, even though it’s NR.

And then some others that I hope give you a similar feel:

use somebody by istajmaal (E, 5K) Oh I love this one, even if it involved a threesome with Nick Grimshaw. Mostly I love getting to see Harry and Louis’ relationship through his eyes. But also the smut is stupid hot.

leave you drowning until you reach for my hand by orphan_account (E, 17K) This one is actually one of my favorites because it goes beyond the smut factor of this kink and really gives you a taste of the needs and psychological factors involved. But don’t get me wrong! It’s still hot af!

Born to Make You Happy by objectlesson (E, 26K) This author writes some of the best xfactor canon fic out there. The way they write Harry is in this one gives you such a real sense of him in all his awkwardness and intense infatuation for Louis. That Harry would do anything to make Louis notice him. Even if that means embarrassing himself.

Diamonds and Pearls by superglass (NR, 7K) Absolutely gorgeous writing. Tender, delicate, dreamy. Set in NY in the 1980s, so read the tags. I just really loved this one and look forward to reading more of this author’s writing.

Saving Symphony Hall by @helloamhere (E, 125K) One of the many things I like in this fic is the way it turns the typical ABO (or D/s) stereotypes on its head. Alpha Harry is much softer and more caring than Alphas can sometimes be portrayed, and Omega Louis is a bit more bristly and independent than how Omegas are often written. Although there isn’t subspace in this one, there’s a focus on touch deprivation which I think is so well handled. Add in great writing, great OT5 friendship, and a unique story and you’ve got a must read fic.

These authors always write truly amazing smut and this is no exception. I actually love the first part of this series, but it’s not necessary to read it first (and I didn’t include it because there’s no collaring, but it’s so good).

So Baby Whenever You’re Ready by LoadedGunn (E, 9K) This is a little one shot that goes along with the driving instructor fic in which Harry and Louis invite Zayn to participate in a little wax play. It’s not a collaring fic, per se, but Harry does wear his collar in it, and it’s pretty hot, so….

Never Never Never Stop For Anyone (Sheylinson ‘Verse) by aimmyarrowshigh, spibsy (lucy_and_ramona) (E, 10-part series, 440K) Yes, here I am again, putting this series on a list. Probably 10 people in this fandom like it as much as I do, but I don’t care. I have read all 440K words more than once, and will likely do it a few more times. Yes, it needs editing, but even so…really well written, super sexy (if you like reading BDSM and can handle Larry + someone else), and such interesting character development. The collar takes place in the later chapters, but I recommend reading all of them to get the full effect.

The End is Always the Beginning by Awriterwrites / @a-writerwrites (E, 8K) This is actually the epilogue to the 30-Day Smut Challenge, but it’s the only one with a collar involved. You don’t need to read the other 30 installments (each written by a different author), but many of them are really, really good and hot af.

give me forever for a while by mercutionotromeo (E, 5K) This one involves a collar, but in a slightly different way – this time it’s kitten play. I always love the way this author writes their smut and this one is full of dirty talk and soft dom Louis using Harry.

redder than the devil by mercutionotromeo (E, 5K) This short fic has so many kinks and so much smut that I probably could add it to 10 different rec lists. I love this author and hope they keep gifting us with their writing.

Lay So Still by yougotmetieddown (E, 3K) Basically just Harry desperate to be used and Louis giving him what he wants. Whew.

it’s you i want to take apart by orphan_account (E, 6K) I always love when authors explore kink discovery, especially when both boys are equally new to it. This one is a bit more about feminization, but Louis’ unexpected love for it results in a fair bit of come play.

Fertile Ground by Blake (E, 4K) This fic is so, so good. The smut (and the comeplay is incredibly hot), but there’s so much more. This author explores gender and body acceptance in a way I haven’t seen done much in this fandom, and their writing is so moving. Like, every line packs a punch. This one, in particular, is such a moving portrait of Harry’s struggles with how others see him and how he sees himself, and Louis’ support as they figure it out together.

ain’t had none like you in a while by istajmaal (E, 12K) Also known as the time travel daddy fic. It’s not easy writing a fic that is mostly smut and involves more than two people but still keeps it interesting and actually makes you feel for the characters. But this one definitely does, as far as I’m concerned (yes, I like some feelings with my come play).

So Baby Whenever You’re Ready by LoadedGunn (E, 9K) Baby Harry gets what he wants for his birthday. And what he wants this time is Zayn seeing how good Harry can be for Daddy Louis.

Gentle Sin by userkant (E, 8K) I love when people write about kink discovery and kink exploration. This one was sweet and sexy and I loved their dynamics. 

When The Wolves Come Out by @rosemarianthyme (2-part series, E, 7K) This is the first time I’ve seen anyone write ABO as kink exploration and I loved it. I loved how open and supportive Louis is in this series and how much that allows both of them to explore and connect. The second part of the series is actually a prequel, FYI. 

Sonic Sounds by @glasscushion (E, 5K) X-Factor canon compliant kink exploration. Stranger Stars by shaylea / @sunshineandhisrainbows​ (E, 212K) It’s a really unique fic that takes place on a 6-week safari through Africa. It’s incredibly detailed and the author does a lovely job with the character arcs and with setting the scene.

Nothing But You On My Mind by nonsensedarling / @absoloutenonsense​ (E, 84K) I couldn’t put this down from the minute I started. Everything about it was such fun. Terrific banter, great chemistry, unique story, beautiful writing. I literally read the first 9 chapters in one sitting. Starting at 1:30 in the morning (like an idiot).

every universe but ours by @28finelines​ (E, 50K) How this fic doesn’t even have 3K hits is beyond me. It’s so touching and funny and sexy and I read it all in one go––thankfully just before I published this post! Please go read it because it’s like reading multiple Larry fics in one, each one with that “I would find you in any lifetime” vibe. 

just a flicker in the dark by @falsegoodnight (E, 57K) I just finished this one last night and it was so good! The super original story and great pacing definitely had me on the edge of my seat. It had everything in it: hate to love, exes to lovers, scary supernatural elements, warm friendships, plus a sexy and emotional smut scene. Highly recommend it!

we can only look behind by @hereforlou​ (M, 66K) Absolutely gorgeous writing. Childhood friends to lovers fic that made me cry multiple times (Yes, I was a mess). This one had such realistic expression of emotions and such three-dimensional characterizations. Just loved it.

Ever Since I Tried Your Way by flowercrownfemme / @lesbianiconharrystyles (E, 26K) I loved everything about this fic, from the setting to the characterizations to the slow way Harry discovers himself and how Louis supports everything about him. It’s just beautifully written and wonderfully moving.

we can take the long road home by @pinkcords​ (E, 46K) This was absolutely gorgeous. And it made me cry, damn it. Seriously though, the writing is so beautiful. I loved the characterizations and the way they both showed their vulnerability. I loved the slow pace and the hot smut. I loved this fic

At Risk, I Fold by clare328 / @bearmustard (E, 15K) This was just beautiful and painful and tender. This was a tough read because the author did such a great job capturing this time period (2015 canon). It brought back so many personal memories, but also they really captured the sadness, guilt, and frustration in a way that felt very realistic. It was so painful to even get the tiniest glimpse into what it might have been like for Harry and Louis at that time.

wake the morn and greet the dawn (with hearts entwined and free) by mixedfandomfics (T, 21K)I cried the first third of the way through this because this author painted such a beautiful picture of Harry’s emotions, his found family, and the setting. I love how they slowly unraveled Louis’ story and the tender, sweet way they ended up together. And Niall!! The best fried/brother you could ask for.

The Section by bananaheathen (M, 11K) Listen… I just discovered this author and I LOVE them. If you liked These Inconvenient Fireworks, read this now! It’s got all of the OT5 friendship, humor, and banter, without the heartbreaking angst. I loved this one.

an entire desert in our hourglass by tofiveohfive / @sunflowrsix (E, 20K) I told the author yesterday that I really appreciated the pain they wove into this story because they did such a good job making the emotions relatable –– even with a pre-apocalyptic setting –– so the feeling cut even deeper. Such a good read. And even though the tags said there was a happy ending (which there is), I still cried buckets.

Under 10K

nobody knows like me by enbyharry / @cisharry​ (GA, 4K) This fic is honest to god gorgeous. It painted such a clear portrait and moved me to tears––there were so many touching moments. Please read it, it’s really something special. Trans Harry.

Things Unsaid by LadyLondonderry / @londonfoginacup​ (GA, 4K) This is so sweet and cute. I laughed out loud a couple of times. Louis’ internal monologue is so neurotic and funny, and this is such a fun twist on soulmates.

Shot by @sashinalash​ (M, <1K) This author’s series of wordplay fics is gorgeous, but this is my favorite of the bunch. They use words so carefully that their fics read like poetry. I love how this one gives you such a full picture of Harry (and Louis) in a really unique way.

Have a Nice Trip by @kingsofeverything (E, 6K) I didn’t know I needed horny Harry tripping on ‘shrooms, but I definitely did! This is really funny and sweet. And I couldn’t possibly have a 2020 fic list without at least one quarantine fic!

sat with the echoes  by BeforeEternity / @starlitlou​ (T, 3K) Read the tags on this one, but if frank conversations about ED recovery don’t bother you, then please read this. I thought it was so moving and realistic and just beautifully written.

an island without waves by tofiveohfive / @sunflowrsix​ (NR, 5K) This is one of my favorite authors for exes to lovers fics. They really do a terrific job of getting right in there with the painful self-realizations and struggle. This one is no exception. Plus, it references one of my favorite films and has one of my favorite tropes: a love confession in a rain storm.

Shake Me Down by AGreatPerhaps12 (NR, 209K) this fic will run you through the wringer, but it’s really a great read. I really like the way the author took the boys from enemies to friends to boyfriends, and how we got to see how protective and supportive Louis became towards Harry.

Both Showing Hearts by kiwikero (E, 114K) This author is always a pleasure to read –– I just find their fics really satisfying. This one is sweet and full of Harry figuring himself out and The two of them supporting each other along the way.

Read The Room by anonymous (E, 2K) Oh... wow. This was ridiculously sexy and original. Short, but it really packed a punch. 

tie you down so you can float away by alongthewatchtower (NR, 5K) I love the way this is more about helping Harry get out of his head and how Louis is so understanding and supportive.

sweet baby, our sex has meaning by publunchesownmyass (E, 8K) This author manages to make this fic romantic and filthy and super sexy all at once. Plus, Harry in that lace dress and you’ve got a winner.

we should open up (before it's all too much) by @disgruntledkittenface (M, 43K) This was just a really unique and beautiful story about loss, grief, and learning how to open up to someone.

To Honor by Awriterwrites / @a-writerwrites (E, 15K) there’s so much about this fic I love. The battle scenes are full of tension, the smut scenes are super charged and sexy, the story line is unique, the boys are in kilts... the list goes on. Seriously though, this author took this fic to a different level — the writing fits the time period (13th century Scotland), but still feels fresh and alive. Give this one a try — I hope you like it as much as I do.

Nothing But You On My Mind by nonsensedarling / @absoloutenonsense (E, 84K) I couldn’t put this down from the minute I started. Everything about it was such fun. Terrific banter, great chemistry, unique story, beautiful writing. I literally read the first 9 chapters in one sitting. Starting at 1:30 in the morning (like an idiot).

But When We Kiss... by @indiaalphawhiskey (E, 8K) At last this author has graced us with another fic and it’s a filthy, fantastic Sugar Baby Harry fic. Hallelujah! But seriously, their writing is so good, the dynamics are so hot, and Harry is just the perfect kind of desperate in this one. Go read it!

Never Never Never Stop for Anyone (Sheylinsonverse) by aimmyarrowshigh, spibsy (lucy_and_ramona) Yes, here I am again, putting this series on a list. Probably 10 people in this fandom like it as much as I do, but I don’t care. I have read all 440K words more than once, and will likely do it a few more times. Yes, it needs editing, but even so…really well written, super sexy (if you like reading BDSM and can handle Larry + someone else), and such interesting character development. One of my favorite things about this fic is how the authors differentiate between the ways the different characters inhabit their Dom and Sub personalities.

Sodalite & Adventurine by @forreveries (E, 81K) Gay pirate adventure that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. Amazing chemistry, great world building, super sexy smut, and beautiful writing. Do yourself a favor and read it!

Run and I’ll Give Chase by orphan_account (E, 25K) I really liked the characterizations in this one; the way Harry wants Louis, but is afraid to want him, and then finally gives in? So good! Plus…there’s a second part Jump and I’ll Catch you (E, 13K) that I haven’t read yet, but @cuethetommo assures me that the telepathy continues and the fic is great!

The light to guide me home  by Star_Henderson / @tommosgun (E, 65K) I don’t know what it is about this fic but I’ve read it so many times and I just really love the instant chemistry, the smut is stupid hot and fuels the character growth, and even with the angst, the whole thing is just lighthearted and sexy.

No Bunny But You by crinkle_eyed_boo / @crinkle-eyed-boo (E, 13K) I loved the banter in this one! The flirting was fun and so well done and even though it all takes place in one day, I got a great sense of them getting to know each other and opening up. And the smut scene was 👍🏻

You Always Make Me Smile by champagneboyband (E, 60K, WIP) Yes, it’s a WIP. I’m listing it because the hope that someday it will be updated gives me the will to live. But also because even as a WIP this fic has everything I love. The characters are multi-faceted, the sexual chemistry is off the charts, the background story is complex enough to give the story numerous possibilities for angst and everything else. WHY MUST IT REMAIN A WIP??? 

Tied Down by HamPalpert / @ham-palpert (E, 49K) Harry and Louis are criminals in this one, the other boys are the detectives, and I really liked how original and layered this story was. If the tags concern you, contact the author (or me) –– the fic is a wild ride, but so worth the read!

Ain’t That A Kick In The Head! by keyshmashlesbian, wreckingtomlinson (karasunonolibero) (T, 22K) Honestly one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. Famous!Louis, disaster gay not-famous Harry. Also includes great OT5 friendship, great banter, and a lot of laughs.

honey is it time to spin by alongthewatchtower (NR, 4K) I mean…pure filth. Strangers to lovers, age difference, messy subby Harry. Filth.

Lightning Strikes Twice by @dinosaursmate (E, 106K) It’s not often that I read a 100+K fic multiple times, but this one is worth it. It’s one of my favorites from this author, and a favorite all around. It’s an epic love story spanning decades and massive life changes. It’s sexy and well-written, and so touching, and so fulfilling in many ways. 

precious little thing by mercutionnotromeo (E, 21K) I’ve read this one so many times…it’s got it all. This time the phone sex operator is Louis, and subby Harry is just beginning to realize his daddy kink.

Take My Breath Away by @realitybetterthanfiction (E, 154K) This is such a wonderful, intimate characterization of Harry – you really get to see so many sides of him and this author writes them all so well. It’s action packed, funny, deeply moving, and has such a satisfying ending. You will be so wrung out after reading this fic – this author puts you through it, but it’s SO worth it. Great banter, great side characters, action, smut…it has it all.

I'd do Niall by alongthewatchtower (E, 8K) I know this fic isn’t for everyone and I also know it’s pure filth. But I love everything about it. Dirty talk, Harry in panties, overwhelmed Harry, Niall trying it and not knocking it, Dom Louis vibes…all the good stuff. LOL! This author also has a handful of others that I’m a big fan of.

In Dreams by dolce_piccante (M, 24K) This actually might be my favorite of this author’s fics, although I know it’s definitely not the most popular. It’s just soft and romantic and sweet and I’m a sucker for tattoo artist Louis winning over slightly uptight Harry.

a million roses (bathed in rock n' roll) (E, 30K) by deLILAh Honestly so lovely. I love how the author jumps through time, highlighting moments I love how their relationship grows And matures. It’s just a really satisfying read.

Escapade by doce_piccante (M, 146K) I know, I know. This fic really doesn’t need more recs –– everyone knows this one. But Louis is definitely confident, the hate to love chemistry of the main characters is done really, really well, the smut is super sexy, and it’s a really fun read.

Our Lives, Non Fiction by @indiaalphawhiskey (E, 114K) this is, quite literally, the best fic I’ve read in years. It’s so well written, clever, funny, heartbreaking, and sexy. Its draw you in immediately and you’ll end up falling in love with these characters before you know it. Don’t miss this one.

The Section by bananaheathen (M, 11K) Listen... I just discovered this author and I LOVE them. If you liked These Inconvenient Fireworks, read this now! It’s got all of the OT5 friendship, humor, and banter, without the heartbreaking angst. I loved this one.

Fine Line by bananaheathen (T, 5K) Have I mentioned I love this author? The dialogue and banter in this is top notch. Just a delightful fic that feels perfect at 5K, and at the same time I wish there was 100K more.

maybe by momentofclarity / @gaycousinlarry (GA, 2K) I adore this short little fic. It’s gentle and moving and makes me feel so much. This author writes beautifully. Always. But not nearly often enough. Ages aren’t specified, but Harry guesses Louis to be around 30, while he himself is much older.

Tired Tired Sea by mediawhore / @mediawhorefics (M, 113K) Always a favorite author, this one is beautifully descriptive and moody and charming. I was anxiously waiting for this one from the first drabbles I saw on Tumblr. I loved the way Harry’s character unfolded and let Louis in, the way Louis made space for him in his life (and heart), and the way Harry’s character struggled with and eventually found a way to live and be happy with his fame.

my heart is breathing for this moment in time by usedtothebeach (E, 160K) Yes, there are quite a few time travel fics in this fandom and I really like a lot of them. But, for me, this is THE time travel fic and I adore it. It’s so well crafted and uses so many canon moments to drive the story home. You get such a lovely portrayal of both Louis and Harry and there’s a scene towards the end that makes my heart *clench*. Sigh. Plus, the pining in this fic is perfect.

written in the stars (that’s me and you) by @fackinglouis (E, 23K) This fic is sweet and funny and the story has a tense little twist. Plus, both Harry and Louis’ characterizations are charming.

Amor Victorious by HappyPrincess / @pattern-pals (E, 39K) My actual original notes when I first read this fic: “What even is this? Oh my god. I loved this. Beautiful writing, gorgeous use of description, a slow meandering trip through Italy, but never boring. Beautifully paced. Louis giving in is done so delicately”. 

Never Mind the Furthermore by Anonymous (E, 7K) Harry pines as he continues his friends with benefits arrangement with Louis. I just really liked the dialogue, the OT5 friendship, the excellent dirty talk, and the very sweet ending.

buttercup baby by cabinbythesea (NR, 16K) Childhood acquaintances become adult best friends and fall in love (naturally). This one has a fair bit of foreplay and flirting before anything happens. It’s a fun, sexy, lighthearted read. 

For Reasons Wretched and Divine by @indiaalphawhiskey (E, 95K) Really well written, angsty, emotional fic. I love this author’s ability to draw you in so deeply (and the smut is excellent). 

Constant Debauchery by Blake (E, 19K) Yes, yes, I know. I’ve probably recommended this 10 times. But have you read it yet? Anyway…Edwardian setting, uni ABO (Alpha/Alpha) fic. Gorgeous mood setting, I’ve said before that it reads like an Merchant Ivory film looks…just gorgeous. There’s a similar sense of repression and uncertainty about flouting societal expectations, and a character who appears one way on the surface, but underneath is quite different. I love this one, I’ve read it a number of times.

Faith, Trust, and a Little Pixie Dust by @someonethatsfunny (NR, 8K) I read this one a few years back and my notes aren’t terribly helpful. But I enjoy this author’s writing in general, and I definitely remember it being a sweet fic with a sexy resolution to all of Harry’s pining! 

Take Me Home (Country Roads) by Awriterwrites / @a-writerwrites (E, 87K) Probably my favorite of this author’s many fics. Set in rural West Virginia, this hate to love fic is funny, touching, super sexy, painful and features big city doctor Louis vs country boy healer Harry.

Talk Dirty To Me by BriaMaria / @briannamarguerite (E, 13K) So….dirty talk is one of my favorite things in a fic. And when it’s done well it’s…god, it’s so, so good. And this fic does it so well. It’s simultaneously funny, and tender, and incredibly sexy. Dirty talk, friends to lovers, uni AU…what more could you ask for? Great writing? Yeah, got that too. Go read it!

Walk That Mile by purpledaisy (E, 150K) I’ve read this one multiple times and still love it. Their bickering is so realistic, their resistance to their attraction to each other is perfect, the way the author portrays all of their weird quirks and differences but still makes it believable that they’d fall fo reach other is such fun to read….I love this fic. 

Tug-Of-War by cherrystreet (E, 63K) I read this one a while ago, so I can’t remember a lot of specifics, but this author is pretty much a sure bet. My notes on this one make me chuckle: “So touching. Tears. Great characterizations. Angst is heart breaking, but relatively brief. Smut is hot af”. Well, there you go!

No One Does It Better by nodibs (E, 50K) Oh lord. Get your tissues and hang on tight. Such well-written heartbreak. Happy ending, but you have to suffer first.

The Road Less Travelled By by freetheankles / @anymerrylilthought (E, 98K) Also known as “the lumberjack fic”, this fic is an instant classic. The author makes widowed Louis’ pain and depression so real and so moving. The characters are three-dimensional and complex and the well written sexual tension is finally relieved with super hot smut. The fic has unfortunately been deleted. I do have a copy of it, so feel free to message me.

love is divine by stylinsoncity (M, 26K) I read this ages ago, and my notes are useless, but I love the way this author writes  in general, so I feel pretty safe recommending it. Plus, I love magical realism and pining witch Harry, so bonus points!

Empty Skies by green_feelings / @greenfeelings (E, 13K) I just started re-reading this the other day and it holds up so well. This author is always a pleasure to read. Their fics just are well plotted and the characters are nicely fleshed out. I loved Perrie as Harry’s bestie, the bitterness and angst is PAINFUL, and the ending feels well earned.

Don’t Let the Tide Come and Take Me by @kiwikero (M, 29K) This author always writes beautifully and does such a lovely job with their world building. This one draws you in and makes you feel deeply.

Your Name Is Tattooed On My Heart my mcpofife (E, 87K)  I reread this one recently and it’s truly delightful. The characterizations are so well done. Harry is so endearing (I cried over his heartbreak). And the smut is both hot and really emotional. Love this one.

Learning to Breathe by youcomecrash (E, 110K) It’s been ages since I read this one, but my notes say “good angst and good first time smut” 🙈so fingers crossed. But it’s got a lot of things I tend to like –– Uni AU, footie, secret relationship…

Unbelievers by isthatyoularry (E, 137K) Oooh, this one is so good. High school Au, footie, enemies with benefits, so much sexual tension (and just tension), and complex characters. Another one I’ve read more than once. 

The Finish Line (Is A Good Place For Us To Start) by LoadedGunn (E, 122K) F1 racers Louis and Harry. I really need to read this again because it’s been ages. But suffice it to say that this author always delivers with pacing, smut, and an exciting story. This time we’ve got race car drivers, great banter, and great OT5 friendship.

Promise Not To Stop When I Say When by becka, mediaville (E, 49K) Ok, read the tags because this has some pairings you may not like, but if you can handle that, this is a particularly filthy fic full of pining. And a lot of smut.

Counting the Steps Between Us by zarah5 (E, 25K) I honestly don’t remember the details of this one and the only notes I made when I read it were, “Sweet. I love the moment when they realize”. WTF does that mean? I have no idea. But I liked it enough to bookmark it once and Zarah is honestly always a sure bet. All of her fics are great.

Just Tell Me the Song and I’ll Sing It by myownspark / @myownsparknow (NR, 40K) This author is really something special. This is one of their longest fics and it’s just slow burn flirting and falling in love. Their relationship is gentle and romantic, plus Harry in a baseball uniform is a wonderful bonus.

once bitten and twice shy by @pinkcords (M, 19K) First of all, for a first fic in this fandom, I thought this author really did a nice job with their characterizations. I especially liked the way they captured Harry’s anger and humiliation and stubbornness. There’s a beefy epilogue as well which I haven’t had a chance to read!

The Woods are Lovely, Dark and Deep by @helloamhere (WIP, 4 part series so far, mixed ratings, 71K) Amazing world building, complex characters, beautiful writing. It’s still a WIP, but it’s so worth reading (and the author says they’re working on more so…fingers crossed)!

Louis wakes up early. He brushes his teeth and can only stomach a piece of toast for breakfast, dressing quickly and heading for the car. He pulls into the parking lot of the Department of Dominance and Submission just as they’re unlocking the doors. It takes him all of an hour in the uncomfortable chairs to fill out the paperwork to the best and most accurate of his ability, handing it over to the receptionist as soon as he’s finished and wiping his sweaty palms on his business trousers.

There’s a high chance that within ten to fifteen business days, Louis will be matched with a dominant.

Shit.

🦝 sweet like honey by @falsegoodnight (33k) roommates AU / Pining Harry / Read this! you’re in for a treat!

Weeks of flat shopping with their limited budget with Louis as a librarian aid and Harry as a barista and arguments about whether a balcony or extended bathroom suite were more important (Harry wanted to be able to feel the crisp night’s air and watch the sun set and Louis just wanted to take long bubble baths) led to them stumbling across the perfect fit. A small flat only ten minutes from campus with a cramped but lovely balcony and an included bath.

It’s affordable too… well, sort of. But they always manage. Louis picks up more shifts as an aid, adapting a habit of bringing his Psych textbooks and homework with him to finish in between duties, and later his script so he can quietly practice lines with little distraction.

Harry also increases his number of shifts at the cafe and valiantly endures the nasty customers who for some reason flock to their establishment like moths to a flame.

For a while, it’s enough.

Or, Harry and Louis need money and they find an unconventional solution in the form of PornHub. It’s not supposed to be a big deal.

Harry Styles has always put up with him. With every snip of attitude, every idiotic act of stubbornness, every harsh and sour word. Maybe he was naive to think that, no matter how hard he pushed, Harry would never move.

Louis likes to think it has something to do with him, or at the very least, this adventure they’ve embarked on together, chosen to see through to San Diego.

Or, Harry and Louis fall in love down the coast of California.
