A Deceased is Charged for an Apartment Complex

A San Antonio apartment complex has charged a woman who died $15,000 for breaking her lease after she passed away. The woman's children received a $15,676 bill and a collection notice, despite a Texas law allowing family members to cancel a lease if a loved one passes away. The woman's son, David Naterman, believes the apartment complex is attacking the next of kin, who had loved their mother and were still grieving. According to the report, the woman had lived at the Lodge at Shavano Park Apartments for over ten years and had almost a year left on her two-year lease. The leasing manager promised to use the security deposit to clean and turn over the apartment and terminate the lease. However, the family received a bill for $14,368 in "accelerated rent" and a $1,117 lease break fee.
