The Red-Headed League - Prolog
“Well, Watson,” said Holmes when our visitor had left us, “what do you make of it all?” “I make nothing of it,” I answered frankly. “It is a most mysterious business.” "As a rule,” said Holmes, “the more bizarre a thing is the less mysterious it proves to be. It is your commonplace, featureless crimes which are really puzzling,"
-=<+>=-
"As a rule, the more bizarre a thing is," Sherlock Holmes said to Watson's quick quiz. "The *less* mysterious, I'm truly serious Old boy - that is what my thinking is."

WATSON'S SKETCHBOOK: VOLUME 2 is coming out!
WHEN: 9:00am PDT/12:00pm EDT/5:00pm BST on August 20!
WHERE: Here is the link to my online shop. There will also be a big restock of Volume 1, as well as my other graphic novels.
DETAILS: Priced at $20, the same as the original, although this one is in color and about 20 pages longer.
This will be a direct ordering situation, no preorder, so hopefully no one will be waiting too long for their copy.
I ordered a good amount of books, but not unlimited, so jump on it if you can - my last few releases have sold out fairly quickly.
Any ordering questions can be addressed through the online shop FAQ or contact email.

The Five Orange Pips - Grand Finale!
Spoilers!
John's uncle got pips in the post Who then looked like he'd seen a ghost It asked for some papers (Which gave him the vapors) But the tale had Holmes most engrossed
-=<+>=-
The seeds gave the man such a fright He ran for a box at the sight 'Twas chock-full of paper Then he took a taper And burned them all that very night…
-=<+>=-
Now to make a long story short Here's the rest of John's strange report: His uncle soon died ('Twas no suicide Though that's what the court did purport)
-=<+>=-
He left everything to John's dad (Including the curse I might add) When he got a letter He didn't fare better In spite of the warning he had…
-=<+>=-
Then John got some seeds as a threat And he was (quite rightly) upset So to Holmes he then turned - "Say the papers were burned And you might get out of this yet."
-=<+>=-
The letters were all signed KKK (Kind of giving the whole thing away) They took John at his word That's the last that he heard From a group that's still evil today.
-=<+>=-
The End
Come back Thursday - A Case of Identity is next!

"I was nearer him than anyone else, and yet I was always conscious of the gap between."
"Observations of the case of James Dodd" refers, of course, to the Blanched Soldier.
Housekeeping: No hand lettering today because I'm trying to be nice to my wrist...the font is 'Neucha'. Also, Volume 2 of the sketchbook (and a restock of Volume 1) will be available August 20 if all goes well. I'll share more specifics as we get closer to that date.
This is in the Watson's Sketchbook series!

Scandal in Bohemia - Grand Finale!
Spoilers!
To Baker Street there comes a post Who's sender must be diagnosed The clues out are squeezed And Sherlock's so pleased That Watson's done better than most.
-=<+>=-
The client comes in for a visit Wearing a mask - that's not cricket! He won't say who he is (The mystery increases) But Holmes shows he knows in a minute.
-=<+>=-
"The evidence has me convinced That you are Bohemia's Prince. Now tell us the truth!" Demanded the sleuth, "Your presence some scandal now hints."
-=<+>=-
Thus Sherlock the Prince did astound Who then threw his mask on the ground. "I'm soon to be wed To a princess" he said "Before at last I can be crowned."
-=<+>=-
"The maiden's modest sensitivity Could prove a distinct liability I sowed some wild oats In my youth" the Prince boasts "Divorce is a real possibility."
-=<+>=-
"I ran 'round with an 'adventuress' Irene Adler (who knew how to dress!) I certainly had fun But I might be undone Now that she's proved treacherous!"
-=<+>=-
Holmes listened to the Prince's sad tale "Does the woman then threaten blackmail? In case she tries it You can just deny it Her infamous scheme would then fail."
-=<+>=-
"I cannot deny I was with her, There's the small matter of a picture…" The Prince cleared his throat And hastened to note, "'Twas under the spell of some liquor."
-=<+>=-
"I see that your Majesty's aggrieved "This evidence must be retrieved." Holmes mind quickly whirled "Her home must be burgled, And then she will not be believed."
-=<+>=-
Then the Prince his fears cast aside (He certainly looked gratified) When he bid them adieu Holmes knew what to do "This calls for a clever disguise!"
-=<+>=-
Holmes dressed like a groom to go spy Her habits and haunts to descry It made him quite happy Her coachman was chatty Since info like that you can't buy.
-=<+>=-
She meets every day with a lawyer (There's nobody else that calls on her) "But what does it mean?" He said, eyes a-gleam "Is he the plot-master, and not her?"
-=<+>=-
"No matter whose wits I must match I must make a plan with dispatch I'll need your help Watson If danger you'd not shun For a counter-plot now I must hatch."
-=<+>=-
He thought as he puffed on his pipe Of how best the photo to swipe "I've got it!" he said "She'll show me instead And Watson we must strike tonight!"
-=<+>=-
It called for another disguise A preacher with kind friendly eyes A man you'd respect And wouldn't expect Of wicked intention and lies.
-=<+>=-
So Holmes found it quite elementary With this little ruse to gain entry To Miss Adler's abode Which then seemed to explode With smoke while he watched her intently…
-=<+>=-
Watson had lobbed in a smoke bomb (With admirable aim and aplomb) Though he couldn't deny That he wasn't sure why He knew Sherlock would tell him ere long.
-=<+>=-
And almost as if Holmes had bid her She rushed to where she'd hid the picture The spot Holmes then noted (He practically gloated) And said to his friend "That'll fix her!"
-=<+>=-
They went to her place the next morning She'd left London town without warning. She knew she'd been tricked And got out right quick. While realization was dawning.
-=<+>=-
Her object was never blackmail (Thus risking a long stint in jail) But to have some insurance From any revenge since The Prince's huge ego was frail.
-=<+>=-
So the Prince jilted Miss Irene Adler (Although he'd never do better than her) She's more happily wed To a lawyer instead And has the last word on the matter.
-=<+>=-
To Holmes there was one woman only But not for matrimony holy Irene, nee Adler, Dueled him with valor But is Holmes in love? Not remotely!!
-=<+>=-
The End
Stay tuned for the next up! The Man With the Twisted Lip

He gave no explanations and I asked for none. By long experience I had learned the wisdom of obedience.
Next update, we will have the displeasure of meeting......

On the shorter side this week, sorry! Come see me at SDCC if you're so inclined...I'll have a few copies of the Sketchbook Volume 2 to give away at my signings.
"I am here to be used" is a canon line which makes me dizzy every time I read it.
This is in the Watson's Sketchbook series!
