And one more thing on Conclave! The Pope in the story represents a Christ like figure, he is meant to be God's authority on Earth. When Lawrence breaks the seal, he is executing the Pope's plan to perfection. He is resurrecting his will to expose the corruption within the Church and ensure his successor is someone worthy.
It is a woman who finds the open tomb, just like in the Gospel, and it is explicitly said in the script that she realizes it's Lawrence on the other side and that's why she doesn't open the door. It is framed as a revelation, Agnes realizes that she must allow him to find the truth, just like at the tomb of Christ the women found out the truth.
Furthermore, Lawrence is acting as the will of the Pope/Jesus, and that's why he fails to use the photocopy machine: in the bible the women where the ones announcing Jesus' resurrection, and here Agnes is the one to create the copies. And when that is not enough, because the Apostles also doubted their testimony so the Cardinals doubt Lawrence, she intervenes again ensuring everyone knows unequivocally what the Pope wanted them to know.
They're a great team because they're John (the beloved disciple) and the women at the cross, the only people to not abandon Jesus at his death, the only people willing to ensure the Pope's will (and by extension God's) is executed. They're the only ones not losing sight of what the Pope is meant to be and represent.

my thoughts on Conclave are like. I have never been religious and know very little about the catholic church and how it Works, but this movie clearly has Something To Say about women in the church and I thought it was very compelling and effective. like, through framing and dialogue we are told that women are absolutely vital to the workings of the conclave and should have a more central role, and then are further told that most fit man to lead the church, the one who the conclave is moved by their faith to elect, is not only a man who respects and appreciates and embraces women, but a man who essentially physically contains womanhood inside of himself, for lack of better phrasing

thinking about Lawrence as the pilgrim and Vincent as Virgil. the former is lost, in a crisis of faith, undergoing a journey given to him by someone he loved who is gone. the latter is eternally faithful, the singular voice of reason, a guide through troubled waters.

something about the concept of Bellini noticing the pure love and adoration in Lawrence’s eyes whenever he looks at Benítez and realizing Thomas was always capable of looking at someone so lovingly, it was just that that look was never going to be for him
