We're often the victims of exclusionism, similar to our bi-besties, because we often end up in relationships that are het passing, or simply no relationships at all.

The Henry Stickmin games originated as Flash games chock full of explicit references. The lawyer in Escaping the Prison is pretty clearly modeled after Phoenix Wright, and is heavily implied to actually be Phoenix Wright.

With the commercial release of The Henry Stickmin Collection, however, just about every stick figure character is named as part of a character bio collectathon. This, naturally, leads to characters being given copyright-friendly names; in particular, the lawyer's name is listed as Felix White.

(And yes, I know that the judge is named Hubert Brown in The Henry Stickmin Collection while the Judge’s name in the Ace Attorney games is unknown. I'd argue that the Judge not having a name is at this point part of the character, especially given the gag with his business card in Justice for All, so I'm DQing that as a link as well.)

Now I recognize there is precedent on this blog for accepting characters ripped-off wholesale, minus the name, thanks to the Columbo submission, but I'm inclined to not use such characters as a link whenever possible to keep the links as airtight as possible. (You can argue that it's more acceptable here given the series' roots, but I'm still going to draw a line here.)

With that established, there's another question to answer: what counts as "official and commercial"?

If "official and commercial" is defined as video games that have to be paid for, there is an unnamed cameo that maintains plausible deniability: Freddy Fazbear appears in Fleeing the Complex.

However, Henry has a cameo in Week 5 of Friday Night Funkin', and I wouldn't be shocked if Henry Stickmin creator PuffballsUnited has acknowledged the cameo one way or another. (He's tweeted about the game, at least.) Given that Friday Night Funkin' is planned for a commercial release through Kickstarter, and the Henry Stickmin games have their roots in Flash, there's a decent case to be made that the FNF cameo is fair game.

What about Erdös-Bacon-Scot Numbers?

Erdős-Bacon-Sabbath-Ryu-Scott

Erdős numbers describe a person's "distance" from the famous mathematician Paul Erdős, through shared authorship of scientific papers. There's also many variations, including:

Bacon numbers, for acting credits in movies

Sabbath numbers, for live music performances

Scott numbers ( @tomscottnumber ), for YouTube videos

Ryu numbers ( @ryunumber ), for video game characters

Morphy numbers, for chess players

Shusaku numbers, for Go players

After a couple of posts by @janmisali, I started trying to find a person with the most different types of numbers. Here's my findings so far:

One of the big hurdles for my project is Ryu Numbers, as most video game characters are fictional and would not be eligible for other types of numbers. So my immediate first thought was The Beatles, having had their own game in The Beatles Rock Band. John Lennon has a Ryu Number of 2, which then gives the other three at most 3: Paul/George/Ringo -> John -> Cleopatra -> Ryu

Bacon numbers for the Beatles are easy, the Oracle of Bacon gave me a link of 2 that works for all of them, through Phil Collins (appeared in A Hard Day's Night along with all four, and in the animated movie Balto with Kevin Bacon). any Beatle -> Phil Collins -> Kevin Bacon

The Sabbath number is weirdly defined, less documented (there's one wiki for Erdős-Bacon-Sabbath numbers, and a couple of random blog posts scattered about, but no Oracle of Bacon or calculators or Tumblr blogs) and even finding certainty of live appearances can be difficult, but in this case there's a relatively easy find: Paul performed All You Need is Love at the Party at the Palace, a concert commemorating Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee in 2002, and Ozzy Osbourne also joins the song. Neither of the other three Beatles were in this concert, but they of course performed with Paul numerous times, and thus get a Sabbath number of 2. John/George/Ringo -> Paul -> Ozzy Osbourne

Scott numbers I really thought I had locked down, with a connection through any Beatles music video (for example, Help) then Ringo's cameo in My Sweet Lord, alongside Weird Al, who has appeared in a schmoyoho video, and so has Tom Scott! Ringo -> Weird Al -> Michael Gregory -> Tom Scott

Unfortunately, on a closer reading of the official rules, "Videos need to have been made for the internet. Theatrical releases, Tv broadcasts, or radio shows are not allowed", which I think excludes music videos, at least ones made before YouTube. I would argue that in the present day, music videos are in fact made primarily for YouTube, but that argument obviously doesn't hold for the 60s, and thus only Ringo counts for this. Paul has also appeared in a vlog by Ringo from 2014, but John and George, having passed away before YouTube even existed, are unlikely to have a finite Scott number at all by these rules. Paul -> Ringo -> Weird Al -> Michael Gregory -> Tom Scott

I can't find any sign of any Beatle having co-authored scientific papers, nor any recorded chess or Go matches played by any of them, so as far as I can find that is the limit for numbers. To sum it:

John has a Bacon-Sabbath-Ryu number of 2+2+2=6 George has a Bacon-Sabbath-Ryu number of 2+2+3=7 Paul has a Bacon-Sabbath-Ryu-Scott number of 2+1+3+4=10 Ringo has a Bacon-Sabbath-Ryu-Scott number of 2+2+3+3=10

Other options

Brian May is listed on the Erdős-Bacon-Sabbath wiki, and he appears as a minifig in LEGO Rock Band, which gives him a Ryu number of 3. He has been in several YouTube videos (Wired, NASA New Horizons, Rick Beato), but so far I haven't found any certain connection from these collabs to anyone with a Scott number. If a connection exists, Brian May would have an Erdős-Bacon-Sabbath-Ryu-Scott number, but until then he's the same amount of numbers as Paul and Ringo.

Any chess YouTuber would be likely to have at least a Scott-Morphy number, and Hikaru Nakamura is known to have a Bacon-Morphy, putting him on the same level as John and George. Also, depending on how the rules go, his chess.com bot might count as a video game character? If any other chess.com bots overlap with ryu-number-having characters, then that would get him four numbers, though the chance of him randomly also having an Erdős or Sabbath number is not great.

Albert Einstein is once again listed on the EBS wiki, though the path it takes for his Bacon number is one I'm skeptical of. Traditionally, Bacon numbers count acting credits, and World Leaders on Peace and Democracy seems to be a documentary. IMDb lists a single other credit, for Champagne for Caesar, which would count, as a case of "person playing a fictionalised version of themself", though as far as I can tell the film only references him as being on the phone, off-screen and unheard, so unless there's another scene that I can't find, this appears to be a mistake from IMDb's side. A shame, too, because he does have a Morphy number: he played against Emanuel Lasker in 1931, giving him a Morphy number of 3. And, of course, he's been in numerous video games, including Mario's Time Machine (NES), getting a Ryu number of 2 through Mario. Unfortunately, unless there's another acting credit that IMDb missed, an Erdős-Sabbath-Ryu-Morphy number is only four numbers, so we're still no further.

Five numbers is probably possible through some route, whether one of these or some other, but for now I'm stuck at four. Though, of course, Scott numbers were only created this year, if more types of numbers come up then more people will have more of them, but from the combined Tumblr-Wikipedia list of 7 options for numbers, four is the best I can do so far.

If someone can find an improvement, please tell me, I'd love to know!
