Chapter 2
" I feel as this is a bit much ..."
" Oh! Nonsense, " Alastor laughed as he dusted your shoulders off and straightened the button up blouse he had gotten you.
It was odd wearing something other than the robe you had worn for centuries. Though the ankle length skirt made you feel a bit more like your old clothes, the colors on the other hand- well you weren't opposed to them. The soft unsaturated pink and maroon of the outfit was nice, but the little black shoes made your feet ache a little. The skirt came up to right under your breasts, and he little sench belt was black as well with little embroidery of vines along it in a rich red.
" It would be impractical of you to remain in those filthy rags, they are nearly tatters. " He tutted.
You chuckle. " It's not as if I go outside. "
Alastor shook his head and he leaned over close to you. " That is no excuse. " He looked you over as if he was appraising an item. It made your stomach do a few flips, like something was twisting inside you. " This look suits you, I think. Lovely."
You felt warmth in your cheeks. " Oh, thank you?"
He sat back up straight and hummed as he looked at a small clock sitting on the mantle, green fire flickered and illuminated most of the room. " Ah, nearly time for my tea with Rosie. " He made a small hum and tapped his red tipped hoof on the ground lightly, clearly thinking. " Perhaps an outing would be good for you. You have been cooped up for two weeks, I think it's high time you venture out a little. Rosie is a trusted friend, you have no need to worry on that part. And even more reassuring , you will be with me!"
You felt anxiety ripple through you, some of your feathers on your wings stuck out. " O-oh yeah so reassuring. "
He seemed to sidestep the source of your anxiety as he placed a hand on your shoulder and began to scoot you along. " Yes indeed-y! That seems perfect, you need a touch of sulphur air my dear. "
" Oh! Uh! Have you already started drinking? Won't people notice an angel walking around down here? My halo and wings kind of give me away!" You dug your heels in a bit, but the slick bottom flat of the new shoes just made you slide along.
Alastor paused for a moment and you looked straight up and back at him. Your halo bobbed a bit above your head. " Simple, the wings aren't the true issue. " He reached a hand from your shoulder to your glowing halo. " I think it's best I hang onto this during your stay. "
" Whoa! Wait ! Wait- " you had a small panic rise through you.
You moved away from Alastor in a twist of your body so you were facing him. Your own fingers barely touched the warm material that made your halo, like touching a light bulb that has been on for a long time and left to cool just a bit. He made a tut under his breath.
" I uh don't mind being stuck in this shack, really! I think I've found it kinda homey actually and uh..."
" Absurd. Just yesterday morning you were beside yourself because you couldn't go roaming the streets willy-nilly. " Alastor approached a few more steps.
" I changed my mind! I was just bored! "
" You are being ridiculous. "
" Alastor!" You squeaked out his name as you ducked under a swipe of a hand.
He made a chuckle and you saw a glow putter out. You blinked and looked quickly over at him. He held between two fingers, a simple golden ring with a whitish glow fading from it. He looked at it at different angles before and looked to you with a large smile.
" Now that wasn't so hard was it?"
You felt above your head. Nothing. You looked at the halo in his hand. A little shadow creature that reminded you of a twisted imp came and held his little hands above his head for his master to give him the boon. You blinked. Alastor placed your halo in the awaiting creatures hands and it melted away with it like an oil slick.
" I... Oh..." You don't know why you were expecting something to feel different. But really it didn't. And it looked like such a simple little thing in his hand.
" Not to worry, you can have it returned to you when we come home. " Alastor spoke and walked over to you and dusted your shoulders and flattened the few out of place hairs. He tapped his knuckle under your chin and his neck cracked as he tilted it. "Little Lwa? Does it trouble you that much? "
You let a breath of a laugh escape. " No... Nothing. And I told you, I'm not one of those. Guardian Angel. Or was. Then I got downgraded. "
" Hmm, still upset about that?" Alastor chuckled and he placed his hand on your shoulder and lead you towards the front door.
" Oh, I expect it to be a stick in my craw for a while. "
Alastor made a bark of a laugh. He settled as the two of you stepped outside. " Now, keep close, my Lwa. I wouldn't want you getting left behind!"
You took your step outside and your wings ruffled as the actual loudness of the mayhem in the air returned. Oh, pearly gates. "Wouldn't dream of it. "
Alastor didn't give any warning as he began down the street, you had to skuttle a few steps to catch up with him. He twirled his microphone cane a few times before tucking it under his arm that didn't get extended towards you. You look at it for a moment and then you slowly linked your arm with his. Alastor had this air about him, you quickly realized. He walked like these streets were the streets of New Orleans - nothing could bother him. Somehow, though, it seemed to work. Sinners and hellborn alike moved to the other side of the street, go quickly down another one completely, or you swore you even saw one man get on his knees and tear his own guts out with the large claws he was given in his demonself. You made a squeak under your breath and look away from that gruesomeness.
Alastor hummed a jaunty tune, treating the symphony of hell as his own personal concert. How could he enjoy such a place? " Now, Cannibal town is just right over here! Yes, I do believe you will find yourself right at home here. Lovely people, always a smile on their faces. "
" A town.... For cannibals? Don't they eat other people?" You asked and looked at him with a tilt of your head.
Alastor made a hum, his smile softened and he looked at you. " Well, yes. "
"O-oh. " You nodded and looked back ahead of you. The streets were slowly looking more - clean?
People were well dressed, large smiles on their faces. They said pleasantries with a bow of the head or a wave, and children even ran past the two of you playing with a hoop and a stick. You were.... Pleasently surprised. Despite the sharp teeth, black eyes and the faint stains of red on the corner of people's lips, this place seemed wonderful compared to the rest of Hell. Cute little shops filled with goodies of all sorts lined the street and the smell of baked bread and pastries permeated through the filthy sulphur air. It made you a tad hungry, actually.
Alastor escorted you to a large building that held a sign in handpainted script. ' Franklin and Rosie's '. People bustled in and out of the door, a little bell sounded off as the door closed and opened. Alastor held the door open for you as you both made your way inside. The smell of baking whafts. Meat pies? They used to be a popular human dish as you recalled. You had to remind yourself to be wary of the meat, especially in a place called Cannibal Town. It likely earns its name.
As the two of you approached the glass display counter, it was confirmed. The delicious smells came from freshly baked and powdered Lady Fingers, eye-balls dipped in chocolate, shredded meat pies, a baker's dozen jam coated toes, candied tongues and a variety of other foods. It was like a twisted version of the bakery's back in heaven. Behind the counter was a beautiful woman. Tall like the seraphim, her beautiful white hair was curled just a little and framed her face. Pale skin that looked soft even from this distance, onyx black eyes, a sharp tooth grin with thin black lipstick. Like her shop, she was like a twisted version of an angel. She laughed and patted the hand of the customer in front of her.
" Now don't you worry. Two cups of brown sugar and some honey, you won't even taste the bitterness. Come back in the morning if you need more, dear. " Her face shifted towards the direction of Alastor and you. " Oh! Alastor! Sweetie, is it already that time? " She grabbed a towel from the counter and wiped her hands up as she came over towards the two of you.
" Rosie! " Alastor let Rosie grab a hold of his shoulders and kiss each cheek.
" Mwah! Now, who is this little dove? " Rosie said as she let go of Alastor and turned her attention to you.
You put on a smile, but your nerves were wrecked right now. Alastor placed a hand around you and it rested on your other shoulder. " Rosie, this is Y/N . Y/N, meet Rosie!" He extended his other hand out and gestures at Rosie with a large smile. " She runs this little corner of Hell. If you need anyone cut up and cooked to a delicious perfection, she is the woman to go to. " Alastor laughed.
Rosie looked at you for a moment. Glanced between you and Alastor, her completely black eyes seemed to sparkle a bit. " Oh come now, Alastor, you know I do more than just cook and bake. " She took ahold of one of your hands in both of hers and patted the top. " Let's get you in the back. You look like a sweet tea kind of gal. Am I right?"
" Oh uh, I suppose. Hot or cold?"
" I have both, darling. " She began to lead you and Alastor in the back part of the shop, which seemed to be like a small home attached.
" Is Franklin out and about again?" Alastor asked as you and he fell instep behind Rosie.
Her home smelled like allspice and nutmeg, surprising for what she possibly had in her fridge. The soft pinks and reds that enveloped the home made you feel kinda fuzzy and warm with the inviting smells. Rosie smiled and laughed gently as she glanced back and looked at you. You looked to her for a moment and tilted your head. She shook her own and took the two of you into the very back of the home, and out a small door. A small walled off garden with a gazebo, roses of such vibrant red littered the flowerbeds and almost overgrew a few spots of the cobblestone walkway to the gazebo.
In the center of the gazebo was an ash wood table carved with little rose stems along the base and the support holders of the table. The four chairs matched with black plush cushions, red embroidered roses littered the cushions with little green leaves. On it was a very nice array of little sandwiches, cookies, cakes and biscuits with a cute little teapot and matching cups. The three of you approached the table and you began to catch more of the conversation that Alastor and Rosie had become engrossed in.
" That new casino is sure making a splash. "
" A single overlord runs it?"
" Yes, such a large amount of souls already under his belt too. Prime time to slip in and make a stir. I know you have been keeping your ear to the ground for more pickings. " Rosie cooed the words out, like a mother would asking a child if they wanted some ice cream.
" Oh?" Alastor pulled a chair out and looked at you with a smile.
You took the seat he offered and made a small noise as he pushed you in closer to the table. He was stronger than he appeared, you almost forgotten. " Thank you." You managed out as the other two took their seats.
" Mhmm, some cat with a pencent for taking a few risky bets. " Rosie continued, she picked up the cups and passed them out before filling them with a rich black tea.
" I might have to take a look into that. " Alastor hummed as he picked up his cup and brought it to his lips.
You placed your hands around the warm porcelain. You took a small sip and it was actually a bit pleasant compared to the black coffee and 'water' you have been imbibing in since your stay at Alastor's. You heard your name and you blinked, not expecting to be brought into the conversation as it had taken a turn you had no experience or advice in. " Hmm?"
Alastor smiled and chuckled. " Would you like to accompany me that day? "
" Oh! Where? "
" A casino. I could use a... Good luck charm so to speak. "
A casino. A den of greed and gluttony.
" Oh.... I uh, I wouldn't be much help. " You make a small laugh.
Alastor waved his hand. " Nonsense. "
Rosie cocked an eyebrow and smiled as she looked at you then to Alastor. " Alastor, just who is this little lady to you? You don't often take people out to hunts. Let alone bring someone here. "
" My Lwa." " A Friend!" The two of you spoke at the same time and then you gave each other a hard look.
His smile pulled thin and eyes narrowed. You puffed out your cheeks.
Rosie on the other hand. Laughed. She brought a soft red handkerchief up to her black eyes and dotted the corners. " Oh. I see, " she smiled, " I think I understand. Even if you two don't. " She gave a other laugh and sipped her tea.
What did she mean by that?

"Deal."
It was odd.
Truly.
Alastor had made a door appear for you, it outlined in that bright shade of green you've began to associate with his demonic powers. He added an addition to his shack, which seemed to be quite an easy task for him. A simple bedroom, but it was nice for what it was. A bed, a dresser, a small closet, a vanity with a stand up mirror next to it. You slept - if you considered tossing and turning sleeping - for a few hours before deciding that it was useless to try and rest right now.
You looked at yourself in the mirror. Your white robe looked a bit dingy from your trouncing in the street and maybe even the bedsheets. They seemed clean but can anything down here be that clean? Maybe you should get yourself some new clothes, easy things such as that should be no issue for you to do. Right? Your eyes drift to your halo, it floated slightly crooked above your head, a few inches from your hair. Your fingers go up to it for a moment, the bright silver shine a bit brighter for a moment.
You let go of it and shake your head.
You walked towards the bedroom door and slowly clicked it open. You glance out into the small home. You could hear sizzling of meat, humming in the distance and a light brightly spilling into the home from the kitchen. You slowly walked outside of the bedroom and towards the warm yellow light. The humming grew louder as you approached and you peeked inside.
Alastor was in front of the stove, his back was to you. He had taken off the red pinstripe overcoat and his red button up had its sleeves rolled up to his elbow. A soft black coated his hand, his fingertips the same shade of red as his hair. It was an older song he was humming, you recognized it but couldn't place the name. It brought you back for a moment to when you were a Guardian. The sound of locusts and the smell of sassafras.
You took a few steps within the kitchen and a swirl of black came from below Alastor's feet and a slightly opaque shadow version of Alastor materialized. It gave you a big smile. You gave it a big scream. Not your proudest moment, you would say. Your wings stuck out and a few feathers floated through the air.
Alastor looked over his shoulder, he cocked an eyebrow. The Shadow of him looked almost like a kicked puppy at your reaction. Did you hurt it's feelings? Can a thing like that have feelings? Oh dear, what if it does and it was just trying to say hello?
" Sorry, uh.... You startled me..." You glanced at Alastor, " Alastor, what - who uh is this ?"
" Just a bit of my soul, don't mind him. " Alastor chuckled, he turned his attention back to the stove and began to stir the contents within the cast iron skillet.
" Oh yes, normal. Totally. " You nodded. Lies, this stuff was kinda freaky, but you would need to get used to it down here you supposed. The Shadow made a silent cackle and smiled again , he swirled around the kitchen and then peeked over Alastor shoulder at the food he was making. You approached slowly, still a bit cautious of the shadow being even if it seemed he didn't mean any harm. " What are you cooking?"
" Oh, as close to chicken fried steak and eggs that one can get down here. " Alastor looked back to you out of the corner of his eye.
" Oh!" You perked up a bit. You didn't know what you were expecting, but it was a pleasant surprise to see two slabs of meat coated in breading frying shallowly in oil. A bowl next to the stove had yellow liquid with speckles of red and black, you assumed it was the eggs ready for scrambling. " Do you need any help?" You offered.
Alastor hummed, his smile twitched a bit wider. " Could you go to that cabinet and get down the dinnerware?" His shadow self moved towards the cabinet and flattened on the surface.
You make a small laugh as you got to the cabinet. When you reach for the shadow covered cabinet, the shadow being melted like hot ice cream off of the surface and slid across the floor back to its source. Weird, yet kinda endearing. You opened the cabinet to sets of nice china, all shades of yellowed white and dark reds. You went for the darker reds this time, you pulled two plates down.
" Two glasses as well, though I don't know if you will partake in my choice. " You heard Alastor from behind you.
You gather two glasses that were found and kind of thick, you return over to the kitchen island in the center with your gathered glassware. Alastor moved a thick rag over to the empty space and a hot skillet was swiftly placed on top with two still sizzling pieces of fried meat. The smell hit your nose, which at first you thought would disgust you, but some how it smelled different than the bagged swill that you had encountered at the fast food restaurants. Spices -like paprika and garlic - filled your senses and made your mouth water a little. He had poured all the grease out of the pan and was now doing something with it in a pot on the stove while eggs began to cook.
" I will be leaving after the meal to attend to a few things. I want you to remain here. " Alastor spoke up as he scraped the sides of the pan.
" Oh, well I guess I can't go wondering around in this kind of place. " You made a gentle laugh and slowly move towards him, glancing into the pot to see what was bubbling inside. Brown and thick. Gravy? " I'll be a tad bored then, but I'll do my best to entertain myself. "
" Don't worry you won't be alone. " Alastor chuckled and shook his head. " No. No. " He turned off the burners, his red eyes met yours. " What kind of protector would I be should I leave my charge all alone?" His smile grew a few inches.
" Hey, that wasn't my fault that I got reassigned. " You half-heartedly grumbled.
Alastor chuckled and his hand reached and pinched your cheek for a brief moment before he walked to place the other pans on the table. " I'll be leaving Niffy with you. She can keep you busy while I'm away. "
" Niffty?" You tilted your head and rubbed your cheek gently as you went to the little barstool at the kitchen island.
Alastor didn't elaborate. Instead, he played the two meals up and poured gravy over the whole slab of meat. It looked delicious. You had nearly forgotten about his skills in the kitchen during the decades apart. You must have been staring hard at your plate because you heard Alastor speak as he took his seat.
" Go ahead. You must be famished. "
Okay it looked delicious.
It tasted amazing.
Like how could food like this even be made down here? It truly amazed you.
You didn't know what kind of meat it was, but right now all you cared about was that it melted in your mouth and the gravy had soaked into the breading like a sponge. Alastor ate his own meal as he watched you occasionally, his smile was gentle -almost soft. You actually were enjoying yourself, listening to the soft melodies from the distant broadcast and to the hums that Alastor made under his breath. You smiled softly and you made a gentle laugh as you laid your fork down next to your half finished meal.
" You know, this is all kind of ridiculous. " You admit.
" Ridiculous?" Alastor cocked an eyebrow, then took a piece of meat and brought it to his mouth.
"I feel almost guilty for enjoying myself. That's all. I'm dining with a sinner, a soul I couldn't save. A delicious meal at that. Like oh gosh, This could make some Cherubs cry. "
Alastor made a chuckle, he shuffled a little bit like he held pride for the praise. " You shouldn't feel like that's it isn't a sin to dine with an old friend, is it?"
"No?"
" Good, than you should have no issues! " He adjusted his monocle and his eyes settled on you. " Heaven must be quite a dull place if you can't even allow yourself to enjoy the little things. "
" No. We do... It's just, " you sighed, " I don't know, perhaps I feel like I would get in trouble if one of the higher angels caught me here. " You made a laugh and shook your head.
" Well. There are none of those here," he took the napkin to the corner of his lips and set down the napkin over the empty plate. " And no need to worry. " He stood up and as he passed by, he parted your head. " I wouldn't even let them harm you if that is what you wished. " He flicked his wrist and his microphone staff appeared. He began to walk towards the exit. " Take your time with breakfast! Niffty will be here to clean up. Adieu!"
Alastor left you alone shortly after, your gaze returned to your food. You finished what you could and scraped the plate into a trashcan you had found. You paused as you slid the fork across the porcelain. You heard a floorboard creak for a moment then you looked around and didn't see anyone. You shook your head and picked up the dishes and set them all in the sink with the cast iron set off to the side. You had no idea how to handle those, besides remembering that they took special kind of cleaning.
You wondered if you should go ahead and run the water. Whoever this Niffty was they might appreciate a little help. Plus, what else were you going to do? You think there were books in the living room but you didn't ask Alastor if it was okay to peruse his library. Darn, you should have thought of that.
You heard a scuttle. Like a rat running across the floor. Well, there were probably all sorts of pests in hell. Or you at least would assume so.
You went to the sink and began to film the water in the sink. It came out this gross dark rusty red. It smelled like old piping, but you couldn't be sure. You still let it run and fill up, thankfully hot water seemed to be at least working. You thanked the heavenly father for the small blessings. Despite how few and far between they seem
"Ow!" You help out as you feel several of your feathers get yanked out. You look over your shoulder sharply.
" Kehehhe! Hi! Your feathers are pretty! " A red haired tiny woman cuddled the cluster of feathers like a child would a stuffed toy. " Alastor said he found an angel but I thought he was teasing!"
You backed up a few steps and made a soft laugh, nervous and sharp. " Ah yes, well uh, you must be Niffty."
"Mhmm! " She stepped closer even as you back up to the counter of the sink. " What's your name? "
" Alastor didn't mention it?" You tried to calm down. Something about this woman made you think you were trapped in a room with a wolverine. Small, cute, but definitely dangerous. "It's uh Y/N."
" Nope!" She shook her head vigorous and she hopped up onto the counter. She gripped onto the cloth of your robe and looked at it. " Oh! These are really soft! But they look gross. Do you not have anything else to wear?" She made a gasp. " You wouldn't! Don't worry I'll pick you up something. "
" No, no, you don't have to-"
" Hehe you can't be wearing something like this down here! " She than began to push you slowly down towards the exit, using the counter for a lift as much as she could. " Now I have to clean! Go!"
" Oh uh, okay? "
She was quite a character. Niffty was as small as most Cherubs you knew, but she had more strength than she let on, you felt your feet skid across the floor as she moved you.
She shut the kitchen door behind you and you could hear the clanking of dishes and... Stabbing? You smooth the part of your wings that was missing a chunk of feathers. You move quickly towards your room, this place felt insane. You close your bedroom door and move towards the little cot. You need to take a breath, it can't be all that bad right? Sure, the little maid lady seemed a bit.... Unique. Alastor was a killer, of how many you had no idea, but he seemed alright. Your gaze goes to the little window, the painted red sky with little streaks of white made you miss the soft blue and yellow of Heaven's sky. In the silence of the room, you could hear gunshots and screams down the street, your feathers stuck up. You took small breaths.
At least you were safe here, right?
Alastor had seemed like he had wanted to make sure you weren't harmed. Though, in a place like this, how can you be sure that he could keep such a promise. Was he powerful like a Seraphim? You weren't sure how hells magic works, sweet spirit, you didn't even know how most of Heaven's magic worked because that was for higher ranked angels than you.
You almost jumped out of your skin when the sound of a knock brought you back to reality. You cleared your throat. "Come in!"
The door clicked opened and the singular eye of Niffty peeked inside. She pushed the door opened and skuttled inside with a little platter in her hand. She stuck it up in the air towards you, little cookies with chocolate chips inside. Was it chocolate chips?
" Would you like some? " She made a small chuckle and looked at you expectantly.
You hesitated. " I....yeah, sure. I'll take one. " You stopped when that big eye began to get watery.
" Hehe! Yay!"
" So... Niffty, " you bit into the cookie. " How long have you known Alastor?"
" Hmm?" She tilted her head and lowered the platter. " Oh! A few years? I can't really remember. Heheh, but Alastor is the best. "
" Oh, I guess he takes care of you?"
She nodded. " Eheh and he lets me clean up his messes! " She seemed to get a bit giddy from the thought, " So much bleach! Heheheh!"
"O-Oh.... How, um, nice? Nice. " You felt nervous again.
She looked up at your halo and grinned widely. " Are you able to take that off? "
"Well, it's able to come off. " But you weren't sure how it would affect you in the long term, like what if you got back up and couldn't put it back on? Or like what if it just comes back without warning if you haven't warn it in a while? What if taking it off down here meant you were fallen? Permanent? Oh gosh, oh gosh.
" Are you okay? "
You blink and look to Niffty. " Ah, yes. Sorry. "
She left the plate of cookies on the dresser near the window. The cookies almost looked pink in the natural light of the Hellscape that you found yourself in. " That's okay! Alastor should be home soon, don't worry! "
"Right, yeah... "
She headed back for the door. She paused and turned back, her little feet made dainty noises even as she walked as cross rotted boards. " You made Alastor really happy by showing up! Thank you! " She then closed the door and was gone in a flash.
Yep. Odd, would be one word for how your life is going.

Okay. So the portals closed. You had no clue how you were even going to get home. And now you were hiding in a little building that looked like a shack attached to a broadcast tower. You took shallow breaths. Everything would be okay. Would your prayers reach from here? What had even happened? All those angels killing the people here, and then leaving like a plague of locusts, eating your entire crop and leaving like it was nothing.
Was this hell? You had never seen it in person so it was hard to know. But it definitely wasn't heaven. Guess it could be L.A. , you thought for a moment. You calm your breathing down and shake your hands like the nerves might get shaken off with them.
Your halo made things in the room have a silvery glow. A couch, a coat hanger that used antlers in its design, a rough looking desk with things lettering the surface. Lights were out so all that was visible was just shadowy silhouettes of the objects. You turned fully around with your back to the door. Had you stumbled into someone's house? You inch your steps a few feet inside, the creak of the wooden floorboards filled the seemingly empty shac- house - place of residence. There was a small light under a door in the back. The light spilled and flickered like it was candle or an oil lamp.
"And what do we have here?" A voice thick with feedback and like it was speaking through a microphone.
Your wings shot open. " Ahh!" You turn around quickly to meet the source.
A stretched smile, red hair with ears pointed up and little antlers settled between them. His face seemed familiar despite the demonic traits. You still felt a lump in your throat, you backed up a few steps. You find the courage in your voice, or at least a little bit.
" Sorry! I didn't mean to intrude! Uh I'll just be...." You move to go around him but he moved into your step and his head tilted in an unnatural way. " Oh or... Not.."
" You must be quite bold as to come in here by yourself, little bird. " He made a chuckle and a laugh track played behind it. " And with no weapon?"
The lights in the room flickered on as he moved closer towards you. He paused his steps as the light illuminated you and him. A record scratch. He withdrew that hand that had been reaching out to you with unnaturally large fingers. You felt frozen as you looked at him.
His face fully visible now and not just from the glow of your halo and his bright red eyes. It couldn't be. And yet. It was. Alastor.
Alastor began to laugh, it made your feathers ruffle. " It's you ... "
"Me?" You took in a deep breath. " You ... know me?"
" How could I not? My Lwa. " He made another chuckle as his eyes drifted over your features, angelic ones making his gaze linger a tad longer. " An angel, though I hadn't expected. Though in hindsight.... Ah no matter. "
" Your what? I uh .... " You felt nervous, and your heart threatened to bust a rib from how hard it was pumping. He had seen you? How was that possible? That should have been impossible.
" Surely you remember me. " He dusted his knuckles on his overcoat. " Or perhaps I look to different from last you saw me.. You did up and disappear on me. Very rude must I say. "
You blinked. Rude?
" You ... You murdered someone! You got me fired! Okay, reassigned but still!" You puffed out your cheeks and pointed a finger at him.
He looked at you for a moment, tilted his head and a small crack accompanied it. Gross. His hand reached over and pinched your puffed out cheek. " Hahaha, Guardian Angels, such a silly thing you are. "
Your feathers stuck up in places and you swatted the hand away. " Silly? "
He made another laugh. " Yes. How did you end up here here?" He seemed bemused, his smile stretched on his face and eyes gleamed with amusement.
" I uh... Got mixed up trying to deliver smoothies. And then got shoved around till I fell. "
He laughed. Hard, and a laugh track played behind it.
It sounded ridiculous. Your wings sagged. You were stuck in hell. You didn't have the authorization to make portals to heaven! Your supervisor usually did that back when you were in the Guardian unit. Now? Oh you can forget the access from any of the mortal or immortal planes.
He moved swiftly to your side, his fingers placed on your shoulder as his other hand gestured to one of the armchairs. " Yes well you don't look like one of those ," he wiggled his fingers, " those extermination angels."
" I didn't even know about that unit. Or ... Any of this. " You moved slowly in the direction of the armchairs. It began to sink in more. Hell. This was hell. What did you do to have the heavenly father give you this kind of test. It was a test, right? He did things like that to the mortals, so were angels exempt? Maybe not. You took a seat and made sure your wings didn't catch.
Alastor sat across from you, he waved his hand and by the end of the gesture he had a mug in hand. 'Oh Deer!' it was a bit amusing with his new appearance. " Hmm, I suppose you wouldn't. " He took a sip from what smelled like coffee. Black. " Hmm, it's all just quite amusing. "
You made a laugh. " Oh yeah soooo funny. I am in hell, sitting with a killer. But oh! It's someone I used to know. "
" I didn't think angels could use sarcasm. " Alastor's eyebrow raised. He waved his other hand and a tea cup appear in front of you.
You look at it for a moment before you take it, "Thank you. " You look into the cup, dark black and smelled a bit bitter. Black coffee. Your fingers ran across the rim as silence filled the room, a light static hum and a distant sound of jazz played from another room. Alastor hummed under his breath and you could feel his eyes watching you closely. You take a small sip from the warm mug, it tastes nasty without sugar and cream.
What are you even going to do? How are you going to get home? Can you even get home? Would you have to wait till those angels came back again to get home? Or father forbid.... Find the original fallen angel and ask it of him. Nope no. Not going to happen there.
"Metrès," Alastor's voice broke through the descending thoughts. " A lwa shouldn't cry. Especially mine. " He tutted. " Try a smile. "
You felt something on your cheek. Were you crying?
"That's not my name...." You whispered and took a breath, and you look up from your cup at him. " And I never was your lwa.. Whatever that is. "
" Hmm? You weren't? " Alastor chuckled. " Hmm, well you certainly acted like it." He hummed and took a drink. He stood up and his mug disappeared in a small spark of bright green. He slinked towards you in a smooth motion and walked around the back of the armchair. Your felt his fingertips brush against your shoulder. " So what is your name?"
"Y/N.... It's Y\N. " You glance over your shoulder towards him as he got on your left side and leaned over.
" Ah... Well this is quite a predicament you find yourself in, isn't it, Y\N?" It felt a bit odd to hear your name roll across his tongue. " Such a little lost lamb... " He almost cooed the words. The air felt thicker as he spoke.
You sighed and looked back to your cup of coffee. " I don't even know what I'm going to do. " You had no clue how to live here and the hour that you've been here, well you knew that this wasn't your kind of place. Definitely not. " Maybe those girls will be back soon and I can skip back home. " You felt his fingers lightly grip your shoulder and the peak of red out of your peripheral made you glance over and see he had leaned to the point he was hovering over you now. An easy task with his tall and slender figure.
" Those pesky angels come back only once a year, sorry to say. " He didn't seem very sorry.
Your stomach sank more. " Oh.... I... "
A year. A whole year in this... Infernal place.
" Oh sweet Father, " you make an almost sob in your throat. You felt a little pat on top of your head. You puff your cheeks and shot a look up at the smiling face of Alastor.
He tutted. " Now, Now. No need for those. " You felt his thumb brush under your eye, it was softer than you expected.
" And why not? You're used to this, this, malarkey. I just wanted to deliver a smoothie, go home and listen to audiodramas. " You felt like you were about to panic, the tightness in your chest and the feeling of pins and needles in your fingertips. " I'm going to die down here..."
Alastor chuckled, he seemed to enjoy watching the turmoil within your expressions. " I could help with that. "
You blink, a few more tears made their way down your cheek from the small well of them that had built up. " You... Can get me to heaven?"
Alastor made a laugh and stood up straight, he waved his hand in dismisal. " Oh dear, no! Wacky nonsense!" You felt your shoulders sag. " That I can't help with, but as for a bit of safety is what I can provide. "
" Safety...."
" You can remain here and I will promise not a soul down in this infernal place of suffering will harm a hair on your little head, " Alastor cooed the last few words and pinched your cheek again. This time a bit lighter than the last one. He let go before you could swat at his hand again.
" You would do something like that?" You were a bit cautious with your tone.
" Of course! I can't very well let my lwa run about and get her wings clipped," his smile widened and you could hear more static in the room. " Can I? And I only ask for one little thing in exchange. "
"One thing?" He nodded, you paused for a moment before you spoke. " What do you want?"
" A simple thing, quite honestly. " He smiled. " A favor is all, and to be cashed in at anytime I choose. In exchange I will keep you safe while you remain in hell. "
A favor. That wasn't that bad. Maybe that would be okay.
The air was thick and the lights flickered on and off.
" Do we have a deal?"

Chapter 1
Tumblr media
It was an easy assignment at first.
A boy who loves his mother- a sweet woman with so much love in her heart and a eyes that reminded you of a doe's. Such warmth between the two of them.
You remember when the little boy would walk through the city in the mornings, hand in hand. You would float above them and watch as hours passes like moments to the two of them, the little shops they would enter and the park they would roam through. He would sit so patiently and draw as his mother worked long shifts at a little shop.
He loved playing piano. He took to it like a fish to water, always played such beautiful melodies in the afternoon for his mother as she cooked. He would sing tunes and his mother had a beautiful smile and laugh. She could have put some angels to shame with the brilliance she brought into a room.
He loved sitting in front of the large radio and listening to the far off broadcasts of the night. Enraptured as he doodled on scraps of parchment with whatever came to his little mind. He once had a shoebox filled with them.
You just had to nudge a bit. That was all. Stop him one step before going out into the road when those 'automobiles' first started to hit the streets of New Orleans. Catch his attention right before something would fall.
Then. It changed.
You wish you had been assigned to her as well. Truly. But, you had no choice. You couldn't do anything as you watched the brightest light in the boy's life get snuffed out. The mortals called it the 'Spanish Flu'. You prayed to the Heavenly Father on his behalf, but it seemed it fell on deaf ears. It at least happened quickly, but you didn't know if it was truly a blessing. Or just cruel.
Alastor Hartfelt was a different boy after that, though he was on the cusp of being a grown man. You couldn't believe the sweet boy was completely gone. It was getting harder to prove that to your supervisor.
Tonight was a good example of it.
You weren't ever visible to the mortals, a perk of being classified as ' guardian ' you suppose. You often stretched your wings as you floated a few feet above your assignment. Right now you had them sprawled as you glided on the gentle fall breeze. It was the middle of Autumn, and the sights in this part of creation always seemed so beautiful. You had appreciated it in previous years but now your thoughts were more worried on the young man below you.
Alastor still hummed, he still put on a smile, but you could see he forced it on his face. No longer a bright one. No it was a facade, a bit of your heart hurt when you would see him put it on for those he came across. You wondered if you could see that real smile again one more time before you had to be reassigned . You could only hold out for so much longer, keep your boss off your back.
He had been following a man for several days though, now. Same man, older than him by at least twenty years. Familiar lanky structure and sharp jawline. Lighter hair and skin though. Alastor hummed a jaunty tune today, he even actually seemed happier. Determination seemed to burn in those deep brown eyes.
You wondered what he was doing.
You flapped your wings a few times as Alastor came to a stop and you had to slow yourself. He tucked next to a new stand and picked up a newspaper, paid for it, though his eyes never left the man who had stopped into a store a few blocks ahead. Usually, after this, Alastor leaves and let's the man leave the city limits our to the swamps that swallowed the land around the city. He wouldn't do this, he would turn down a different street. You land down next to him. Your wings folded in to not bump anything, more out of habit than necessity.
Alastor wore a faded white button up and brown slacks with a few wrinkles in them. A simple bowtie brought attention to his sharp jawline and even sharper smile. He was handsome to be sure and every year you find yourself appreciating the Lord's creations. Or at least that is what you told yourself. Appreciating.
" Like clockwork." Alastor spoke under his breath, not intended to be heard by anyone.
The man came out of the shop with a few meager groceries in a paper sack. Alastor began to move again, you watched for a moment and you felt this twist in your gut. You opened your wings and flew above the small crowd of people that he weaved through to get towards the last few blocks that were residental and then out to the dirt trail that barely qualified as a road. You kept feeling a bad tingle in your skin. You flew down closer to where you were almost a foot away from Alastor.
" What are you doing?" You ask, though knew better than to expect an answer. Maybe he could feel your intentions though. " Why don't we turn around? The radio shop is sure to have a new delivery in. " You floated in front a few feet and kept pace. " What about.... Going to the park again? You liked the bands there. What about going to the cemetery ? I bet your mother would love a batch of new flowers? What did you place last time? Lilies?"
Alastor sighed and he kept moving. He pulled leather gloves from his pocket and slowly slipped them on. Darkness was fast approaching, you could feel the warmth leaving the air and little bugs the mortals had affectionately called lightning bugs joined in the dusk. You bit your lip and you stayed for a moment as Alastor walked past and down the dirt path towards the deep grove of trees gathered and blocking the man from view now.
" Alastor..." You whispered and then followed again.
He stalked through the woods like a predator might, you felt the feathers of your wings fluff up as you decide to land and slowly walk behind his own footsteps. What should you do? Should you grab him? Stop him? No that would get you in so much trouble, you can't directly interfere with their choices like that. It wouldn't be right. Alastor had paused for a moment, up ahead was a small cabin in the middle of the bayou. The man must have went inside, you thought. You reach out for a moment, your fingertips brushing against the faded white material of his shirt.
He moved just before your fingers made full contact and he stalked towards the door as light streamed out of the cracked front window. In the front yard there was a stump with an axe stuck into the dark rings of the wood. Alastor gripped the ax handle and yanked it from the stump, he glanced at the blade for a moment before his eyes settled on the cabin.
You felt your breath in your throat.
You hadn't wanted to believe it.
" Your getting reassigned. " Your heart felt like it might crack at those words. " This program isn't doing well anyway and the Cherubs have been able to do most of our job nowadays. " Your Supervisor, a woman whose appearance reminded you of a cat but her ears were wings. Agatha sighed. " Look, I won't put this incident on your record. "
You fidgeted with your hands, messing with your nails. " Where am I being reassigned?"
" I could send you to the Seraphim Emily's jurisdiction. You wouldn't have to go back to Earth, and you can forget about this matter. "
" Ma'am, please... I like my duties on earth, " you spoke, you thought maybe you could fix this.
" The orders have already been given. Y/N, just let it go. You shouldn't let one lost soul trouble you so much. " Agatha stood up and her ears spread with her wings and then folded back in like she was stretching. " You start there tomorrow. For tonight, go home and relax. Drink some tea or eat some cake. " She floated over, putting her hand over on your shoulder.
You felt like stones were in your stomach. "I.... Yes, ma'am . " You nodded and took a breath before leaving the Guardian Angel Office.
Your home was a little apartment just big enough for yourself on the upper portions of heaven where most of the heavenborn reside. You let your wings droop as you enter your apartment, closing the door behind you. You let out a heavy sigh.
" They are right, I should just let it go. Not like I will ever see him again. " You felt a pang of sadness at that thought. You've had millions of souls under your belt before and never felt bad about being assigned to a different human. But this time...
You shake your head. " Silly. I'm silly is all. " You move towards your couch and plop into it face first. You nuzzle your face into the plush throw pillow you had next to the armrest of the couch.
Your new assignment was easy. Decades of making winners happy, asking the newest additions what they could add to heaven to make it even better. Taller buildings, innvations in technology, something called Ice Cream, you name it, the winners got it within a few weeks of their arrival. You helped souls find long lost loved ones, that was your favorite. Some who hadn't seen the other in years, some who had only been apart for days. Though their bright looks gave a little light to your heart.
Sometimes your thoughts would drift to Alastor. Did he live to old age? Or was he cut down in his prime? Did he plead the Heavenly Father for forgiveness and he was somewhere up here and you hadn't been blessed enough to see him yet? No, but it was a hopeful thought that brought a smile to your lips even for a brief moment. Perhaps he had met his mother again.
"Y/N! Your pick up is ready!" The little deer cherub spoke loudly before moving back to working on other orders.
You pick up the two pack of smoothies and a bag of fast food. You glance at the bag and cringe a little. You hoped this was the right order. You had been asked to deliver this to a very important human soul who needed a quick meal. It was a bit different than what you were used to. But, a winner is a winner, right? A human soul who made it to heaven should be able to eat .... What was this slop? You looked at the slight brown leak out of the bottom and shook your head. You opened your wings up and looked at the adresss written in pen on your hand. It was an old address for human souls, odd. 26 Genesis Lane. You flew towards the very edge of the city towards the larger estates reserved for saints and very blessed human souls. You notice more fliers around as you approached the home. Wearing uniforms you didn't quite recognize but it was obviously some sect of heaven from the craftmanship. Some party maybe?
You landed on the concrete sidewalk that lead to the front door. Elaborate, gold and in the shape of an archway with French double doors. Statues of a man were littered all around in various poses that you had seen on TV for rock stars in the mortal realm. You walked by them quickly, you practically hopped up the stairs. Just drop it off and be quick about it. You stood in front of the door and jostle the food and drinks into one hand so you could knock.
The door swung open, you made a squeak in surprise and backed up before it smacked you right in the face. The food and smoothie however did not survive the two walking out of the double doors. They didn't even spare you a glance as they call out towards all the angels flying around.
" Alright you bad ass bitches, get your sweet cheeks down here right fucking now!"
Oh my ....
You shifted and you watched as all the girls you had dodged on the way in began to land around . You began to try and leave without causing a scene. You tiptoed around the edge of the crowd, which was beginning to be egged on by the man in white and gold robes with a mask that vaguely reminded you of a demon head with its horn shapes. You felt overlooked as you felt shoulders bumping and elbows shoving. Spears and swords wielded in hands and you felt a few handles jab you as you try to weave through the thickening thicket of angels.
" Excuse me... Pardon .. uh. If I could just ...."
You couldn't even open your wings up as the women around you clustered and the sudden rush in your stomach began to make a flip.
" Fucking go! Bitches!"
The the sea of grey became a rush of red as you suddenly felt the crowd around you move away and fly down below. A city? Red and burning. You spread your wings out to slow the quick and hard decent you are finding yourself in. Oh sweet lord. You stop just before you land on the broken concrete. You take a breath and you look around. A broken down city with blood and gore touching most surfaces. Trash and bodies were more abundant than clear space to walk. More bodies fell and joined as arrows took them down from above.
Screams filled the air.
Where even in Father's creation are you?

Crimson Magnolias
Final Part
Warnings: Rated M for a mature audience, Dates, Jealousy
-----
You glanced around the restaurant. Simple, elegant. Pale white walls with marble and that rose gold that made everything look a soft shade of reddish pink thanks to the natural light in the Pride Ring. Your heart was stuck in your throat. Alastor pulled the black velvet chair out for you, he looked at you expectant as you stood frozen for a moment as your brain tried to process this was really happening. You gave a small laugh under your breath to release your nerves. When you had comfortably gotten into your seat, Alastor pushed you closer to the table before taking his own seat.
Classical violin and piano music played from somewhere in the room. It was soft and subtle, the gentle murmur of sinners talking amongst each other mixed with it. A bottle of rye whiskey sat at the table with two empty glasses, it looked like a beautiful amber color.
Alastor cleared his throat, he seemed to mess with the placement of his fork. " I thought this place would be an entertaining place for an outing."
" It's... It's a beautiful place...." You try to relax, you stop the fidgeting with the little cinched fabric of your dress near your hip. " Really, you didn't have to do this. "
Alastor laughed. No laugh track or filter. He shook his head like you had said something ridiculous. " Oh, I know I didn't HAVE to mon cher. " His red eyes settled on you and smiled, not his usual stretched grin, he picked up the bottle of rye tonfill the glasses. " I wanted to, simply. "
" I - oh, " you felt your cheeks flush and you hope you didn't look like a gobbsmacked teenager.
Thankfully, the waiter came over to divert the attention from something other than you. Menus were about to be placed down when Alastor tutted and stopped the imp dressed in a button up and slacks. The imp paused and oulled the menus away and looked to Alastor, their thin red tail twitched.
" What will we be having?" They spoke evenly but they didn't want to meet Alastor's eyes.
" Tarragon Chicken dish, two of them. " Alastor stated and made a motion like he didn't want the waiter lingering around. The imp seemed like he would prefer to not stand near an overlord's table for longer than necessary.
You couldn't blame them. Most would find your situation terrifying. A dinner with the notorious Radio Demon, a man known for his sadistic methods of taking down his competition. Though, you supposed none of them had caught Alastor doodling as he was two knuckles deep in rye and Paul Whiteman on the record player.
You made a chuckle. " Alastor, how did you find a restaurant like this down here in hell? This part of the entertainment district is not typically your cup of tea, but I never thought there was a restaurant like this here. "
" Oh, I pulled a few strings. Old favors. You would be surprised at how many chefs have made it down here. " Alastor took ahold of his cup, a small laugh echoed by a laugh track.
You take a drink of rye, the flavor was stong and rich, more than the other bottles you've had since coming down here. You look at the bottle closer. The labeling was so familiar, and then you realized with your heart skipping. A bottle from home. New Orleans. How did Alastor manage that?
He did all this for you?
You kept that thought in mind as the dinner arrived quickly to the table. You made a small laugh and you looked at him with a soft gaze. " I haven't had this meal since before the stock market crash. " You admitted. " And I would ask how you got ahold of this bottle, but I know you will just say you called in a few favors. "
Alastor made a small hum in his throat and he picked up the cloth napkin and placed it so it would catch anything that might make a mess of his shirt and pants. " It's one of the first bottles we shared together. Though, it is a vintage just a tad past our time, but nonetheless. " He shifted and his expression was unreasonable past his smile. " I thought it was appropriate. " He took a drink.
You picked up your knife and fork, you began to slice the chicken -or the closest thing to real chicken one could get down here. It felt a bit surreal. Different yet the same sitting with him like this. Comfortable yet you still felt the nerves digging in. You fell silent as the clanking of metal against porcelain mixed with the melody of the room.
You felt something against your skin and you blinked as you glanced up and you saw Alastor reached over swiped the bit of rue that had gotten on the corner of your lips. Shit. Shit. You had to keep your breathing even. It was so gentle. He made a chuckle and raised an eyebrow at you as he moved the cloth napkin back into place.
" Something wrong?" He asked. Though he seemed amused as he began to cut his next chunk of meat.
Teasing.
He's teasing you.
But it was different than when he would tease you before.
Your shoulders relax. " Oh, nothing. " You let a gentle smile come to your lips. " Oh, I saw that Sir Pentious got to keep the egg creatures. " You commented as you took a bite of chicken. " And he actually seems to be listening to the silly lessons that Ms. Charlie seem to be giving him. "
For a moment Alastor looked like he was thinking for a moment then snapped his fingers, " Ah, the man who ruined my coat. "
You snorted a laugh and covered your mouth with your hand. " Yes. The man who ruined your coat. "
Alastor shrugged a little with one shoulder. " Doesn't matter to me very much if her lessons actually make a difference. Infact, with him actually putting his whole heart into it, it will be even more savory when he fails. "
" As twisted as that is, I agree with you. " You mess around with the chuck of chicken, swirling it around in the rue. " What's the point of hell if you can just.... Get out with good behavior. Not that I get my kicks from it exactly. "
Alastor chuckled. " It's just an amusing notion. " He hummed as he took the last bite of chicken and then wiped the corners of his lips of. His large stretched smile returned shortly after. He reached over and picked up the bottle and refilled your cup. " But no, not your cup of tea. "
" Not exactly no. " You laugh gently. " But I understand.... In a way.... I guess. " You smiled and you take another drink of your glass of whiskey. " Though I found that I like that I can't exactly figure why you do things."
" I think I feel the same. " He looked at you, his soft smile hidden behind his glass. " You, Mon Cher, are an engima. A puzzle at times. And apparently very good at hiding things from me, which I thought was an impossible task."
You chuckle and smile, playful and coy as you lean a little across the table. " Maybe you weren't as good as you thought. "
Alastor made a small laugh, and he slowly drummed his fingers on the glass as he set it down. " Oh ho ho... Bold today." He stood up and with one arm tucked behind his back, his other hand extended out to you. " There is one thing you can't deny I am the best at. "
You felt heat rose to your cheeks and you put on a smile as you take his hand. " Cooking?"
" Cheeky. " He pulled you to your feet, all the way till you brushed against his chest, he looked down at you with a laugh and a crooked smile.
" You started it. " You retort as you try to keep your heart from leaping out of your ribcage. You earned a small laugh.
Alastor lead you out to the dancefloor, polished hardwood and the tapping of heels and hooves mixed with the music already being played. His hand was warm as it held your delicately, he spun you in your heel so you were facing him and his other hand rested on your hip. Your free hand went to his shoulder and the soft silk fabric of the black and red pinstripe jacket glided under your touch.
The song slowly fades to a new one. It was soft at first then it began to swell as Alastor began to guide you across the floor in a slow waltz. His other hand slid from your hip to your lower back as he pulled you in closer. Your step in lined with his as you felt the sway of his body with the music.
"Y/N ...." Alastor's voice was gentle in your ear with a slight hum of static under it. " You know I have always enjoyed your company. "
You look up and meet the red eyes of the Radio Demon. A man who used to just be a radio host in New Orleans. To you, just Alastor.
" This.... " He took you and twirled you as the music rose and then pulled you in as it fell to a lower note. " Feeling you invoke inside me... " He leaned down, his breath ticked your ear. " And with you keeping such a good hold of your own feelings, it made it easy to write it off for the most part. Though I can't simply ignore someone like you slipping away from my grasp. "
" Alastor...."
He pulled from a little bit from your ear and looked at you with a tilt of his head and a gentle smile. " I could get used to you like this, you are so free with your expressions now. "
" You enjoy teasing me. "
" Oh, yes... I find that, " his hand went from your lower back to your chin, his thumb right under your lips, "It is wonderful to see that shade of red on your cheeks. Those little looks all saved for me. " He smelled a bit like the rye whiskey. " I wonder what other expressions you have in store for me. Little noises you possibly might make."
You felt your breath caught in your throat.
Oh, the thoughts that ran through your head.
" Might I cut in? Seeing as you already cut in on my date, I might as well get a chance to dance with her. " A condescending laugh echoed.
A record scratch came from Alastor as his eyesight broke from yours . " Oh?"
Vox.
Shit.
Vox stood a few feet away, arms tucked behind him but his stance was firm. He wore pressed black pants with a light blue around the bottom hem of the slacks, his white button up and pure red vest was obviously freshly dry-cleaned and pressed. He stared at Alastor with narrowed eyes on his monitor.
" I don't believe I will, old friend. " Alastor held you in place and he stained his smile as he looked at Vox.
Vox made a laugh, hard and short. " Old friend. Funny. " He offered one hand out. " But I believe the lady has the choice."
" She already did make her choice. You should have stayed in your little tower. " Alastor laughed and he tapped his hoof.
" You didn't even want her until she was going to come to me. Just admit that you don't want me having something you think is yours."
You looked at Alastor for a moment then back to Vox. For a moment you felt your gut twist. Did Alastor really just didn't want Vox to have you? That couldn't be all....
Vox looked at you with a grin. " Y/N , you know that you don't want to be someone's second choice. You wouldn't with me. You enjoyed your time with me at the tower, I could show you the future. I could show you a lot more than this washup. "
" I... Vox, I..." You began.
Alastor slapped the hand away. " She isn't a second choice. " He made a sharp laugh and the lights in the restaurant flickered. " You are ignorant if you believe that. "
Vox growled and tucked his hand back behind his back.
You felt the air crackle a little between them. You tap Alastor's arm. He slowly lets go of you but you could feel the hesitation. You turn to Vox and give him a slight smile. " I did enjoy our time.... And I am sorry I cancelled on you. Though, Vox, I really don't think I would fit with you and the others at the tower. Even though I know you would try to make me feel at home. "
" I ...." Vox blinked and his stance shifted, he seemed a loss for words. You could feel Alastor's hand on your shoulder. Tight, almost to much.
" You need someone who's a bit more up with the times, Vox. I don't think someone who holds into so much would be a good partner for you. " You took a few steps to close the distance and kissed the edge of his screen, you took a step back and felt the gentle pull of Alastor as he tucked you against his side. It made your heart flutter in your chest. You look up at Alastor. " Let's go back to the hotel."
" As you wish, Mon Cher, I think that would be a more appropriate place to finish the evening. " Alastor gave a look you couldn't see to Vox as he began to gently guide you off the dancefloor.
The shadows swallowed you and Alastor like 'lava' being broken up in a lava lamp. It was always weird when you were suddenly teleported like this. Alastor couldn't go far distances but he used his powers to take you outside of the restaurant. You saw a gleam of a bottle in his other hand that didnt hold you firmly against his side. He must have snagged the rye from the table before the two of you absconded.
Alastor tapped his cane and a pitch black town car -much like he owned beforehand - formed, it glowed an eerie green under the wheel wells. He opened up the door for you and finally let his grasp of you go.
" We aren't walking this time?"
" No, I would rather not any more interupptions to our evening. " Alastor closed the door as you got safely inside.
He walked around the vehicle and climbed into the driver side. It had been a long time since you seen him behind the wheel. 1932? It must have been around then. You kind of missed it, the nights on the town after having to many bottles at Mimzy's. Driving with no destination as Alastor spoke of how he had planned to make it big in New York next. Practicing night and day to be able to hide his accent for the city folk up north. He talked of hunting in a new forest as well, but now you know the truth of that matter.
Alastor leisurely drove through the steets of Pentagram City, the hotel a growing monument between the curving streets. You felt something rest on your knee, you glance from the unsightly scenery of hell down to your leg. Alastor's hand rested gently on your knee of your crossed legs, his thumb rubbed gently across the joint. You let a small breath out, you had been holding it as soon as you had felt his hand.
" Would you prefer Louis Armstrong tonight or Duke Ellington? I will play anything you want over the broadcast. "
" I, oh, well I suppose Armstrong. "
He made a small hum. " Then I know the perfect album."
He pulled into the circle drive of the hotel and got out. Alastor strider around the front of the vehicle, twirling his cane around before he reached your door and opened it up. He tapped it lightly as he helped you out of the car, which melted like it never existed. Alastor took your arm and linked it with his as he escorted you into the hotel. You blushed deeply as you noticed the group of residents residing in the hotel has chosen right now to be doing one of their bonding exorcises.
Angel Dust was the first of them to notice the two of you making your way up the hotel steps. He wolf whistled. " Oh don't the two of you look all fancy~ "
You felt the heat in your cheeks. Alastor didn't falter in his steps. Though you now you were going to get shook down for details later as you and Alastor made your escape to the next floor of the hotel. You were thankful most wouldn't venture to Alastor's domain of the hotel. At least you wouldn't have to endure the comments from Angel or Charlie asking a million questions in a single minute. You could deal with that later.
Alastor opened the door that lead into the broadcast tower, he let you in first before closing the door quietly behind him a few things looked different than the last time you had seen it. A few record albums had been laid out on the desk with the equipment. A second chair had been placed just a little adjacent to his usual seat. You hadn't the time before the date to see into the broadcast room.
Alastor walked past you with a hum in his throat, he set the bottle of rye down on the table next to the albums and picked one up. You walked over next to him and peered over his shoulder as he placed the record into the phonograph. You smiled softly and listened as the soft tones of a saxophone began to play and fill the room and the airwaves of hell. Alastor's hums became part of the melody as he turned and with one hand behind his back and the other offered to you.
You look at his hand then to his face, hoping to read his expression as you placed your hand in his. " Hmm?"
" I still wish to finish the dance that was so rudely interrupted. " He pulled you in swiftly and he chuckled. " Though a bit more our speed yes?"
You made a laugh as his fingers lace with yours. Was that your heartbeat or his? His smile was soft as he moved you to the music, the tapping of your heels and his hooves in sync with the beat. You could hear his breath as he pulled you in against his chest and swirled your upper body in a half circle of a dip. His hands felt large as the spread oun your back and kept your weight up.
You felt a bubble of a giggle escape as you felt his hands slide to your hips and pick you up with ease and slid you between his legs and back up into the air. Your arms slid around his neck as he settled you down lower, you had to stand on the tips of your toes as the song came to its more gentle end. Your breath was a bit ragged. Your heart felt like it was in a fight with your ribcage, it beat hard and fast as his forehead settled against yours.
"Alastor...."
His name barely left your lips when you tasted a sharp blend of copper and whiskey. His lips were softer than you thought, they pressed almost chastely against yours at first- as if Alastor was nervous of the experience to begin with. His fingers glided up your forearm and gently grasped around your bicep. You gently kissed him back, your own nerves making your skin tingle a little. You felt a sharp prick after a moment, a gasp came out of your throat and you pulled back. You licked your lip and a little bit of blood came to the surface of your bottom lip.
Alastor had a smirk on his lips as he licked the bit of blood from the end of a sharp tooth. He spoke in such a way that reminded you of a dull hum of a radio broadcast left running.
"Mon Cher.... How I adore you."

Shade was being awfully playful today, you noted. He swirled around your own shadow and he made large smiles and pretended to curl around your shadow and and nuzzles it even when you were busy with other things around the hotel. The extermination was but a day away and the whole of Cannibal Town and the hotel were rushing to prepare. You weren't much of a fighter so you took to helping put boards up and seal off entrances. You didn't think it would do much but having something to do was helping. The low hum of static brought your attention back to the shadows on the wall. You make a small laugh as Shade made a large smile and wiggled his finger like he wanted you to come over.
You playfully rolled your eyes and went over. " What? Charlie wants this hallway done by the time dinner rolls around. "
He made a shape of a tower with his fingers, it twisting in unnatural ways to make the shape for you on the wall.
" The radio tower. Alright. I guess Alastor needs a bit of my help?" You tilt your head. It was always kind of difficult to understand exactly what this being was trying to say.
Clicks like a changing of a station.
" Alright, I'll take a small break and go see him. " You made a small chuckle and watched as Shade dispersed like smoke in the air.
You put down the hammer you had next to the unused planks of wood, a bucket of mismatched nails sat beside them. You smile to yourself. It had been nice, despite the looming threat of death of course, to have so many people in the hotel. Rosie was constant with her teasing when she would see you walking with Alastor through the halls or in the front grounds of the hotel as many sinners practices their new arsenal.
Your feet carried you up your usual path to the Broadcast Tower attached to the hotel. You went there most nights now, sitting with Alastor as he spoke onto the airwaves. You often fell asleep in the comfy armchair that Alastor had eventually provided you with, though you would wake up in your room - tucked in the blankets with a warm feeling in your cheek. Some nights you chimed in on the topic of the evening, and others you were a silent presence. It was lovely, to tell the truth. The feeling of Alastor's hand in your knee as he spoke into the microphone, the tap of his finger on your thigh when the beat would sway him.
You knocked gently on the door once before you opened it up. Alastor was in his chair in front of the broadcast equipment, your chair empty and pushed just enough off to the side not to be in his way. He looked over and chuckled, he clicked the microphone off and slowly rose from his seat as you approached.
" Mon Cher. " He took your hand and gently guided you around his chair and close to him. He brought you into his arms and you could feel his face in the top of your hair. " How are the preparations downstairs coming along?"
" Would be farther along had Shade not been distracting me." You tease, you place your hand on his chest. " But I don't mind the distraction. "
" Good. " Alastor chuckled. "I've missed you these past few hours. It gets awfully droll watching the sinners bustle about like ants outside. "
" You could help out too. " You suggested and you went surprised by the sharp laugh and the shake of the head from the radio demon.
" Silly. No, I'll leave the busy work for those that worry about their own pathetic lives here."
" And of course the oh so powerful Alastor the Radio Demon isn't worried or anything like that. " You go to take your seat when Alastor kept his arm around around you.
" Why would I be? I'll be protecting this hovel, who better to trust than myself. " Alastor rested his chin on your shoulder. His hands glides gently across your hips in slow motions. " These others should have more faith. "
" Someone such as you talking about faith... " You placed your hands on his chest. You felt the steady beat of his heart. Some might find it a funny notion of the feared overlord even had one. " But, I have faith in you, you know. "
" I do."
" Then, " you move to where you could look him in the face, " why are you worried?"
Alastor didn't meet your gaze for a moment and his smile twitched. " I don't know what you mean, mon cher."
" Alastor, I have known you for decades... "
You heard the tap of a hoof, light and soft. " I am aware."
" Then just tell me what is eating you inside. " You reach up and touch his cheek.
Something before you could have never done. Small touches bring your heart to an unhealthy patter sometimes. He doesn't pull away. Alastor reaches up and his hand laid over yours. He gently took it and kissed the bottom of your palm. He was worried for you?
" These little thoughts are irritating. "
"Hmm?"
Alastor looked at you with a slight glow to the rich red of his iris. "These past few months have been very lovely with you... But more and more these thoughts come to my mind. And before they wouldn't have become so prominent." He took your hand and began to kiss up from your wrist to the crook of your arm. " It's quite irritating. "
You felt your stomach doing flips and twists as he kissed farther along your arm. " I.. uh... "
" I picture you tomorrow with those unskilled sinners... Getting hurt while I am to busy. " He began and his teeth grazed the vain that lay right above the crook of your arm. " And I cannot take you with me to fight the first man. " He paused and his eyes met yours again.
"I .. I'll be fine Alastor. " You had to try to form your thoughts.
" How am I to know? " He hummed. You could feel the vibrations in your skin. " Am I to trust the cat to protect you? No. " He made a sigh and his smile softened as he slowly pulled himself from your arm.
Alastor leaned down close to your face, his nose nearly touching yours. His fingers trailed up your arm and the hard red tips of his fingers grazed across the skin exposed near your neck and shoulders. You wonder if he could feel your pulse for a moment. The musky scent of the bayou and the smell of copper hit your nose, you oddly loved that smell.
" I should send you to stay in Cannibal Town. " Alastor states as he placed a thumb on your chin. " You could stay until I send for you. "
" I won't ... " You whispered.
His lips brushed against yours. " And why not...." He whispered in the almost kiss.
" You will be here. I have to make sure you don't run off on me again for another seven years "
A light chuckle before lips gently placed against yours. Your hands rested in his shoulders. His fingers ghosted over your skin if your arms and then rested back on your hips. The circles made in your hip made your skin tingle and your breath shallow, your lips parted as you felt the pinprick of teeth on your bottom lip. Your eyes had fluttered closed and you felt like you were holding into Alastor to stay upright. Your fingers clutched onto the red fabric, wrinkles that he would need to deal with later.
He tastes of coffee, black no sugar. Bitter but it wasn't unpleasant. His hands guided around to your back and pulled you in close against him. The two of you parted for a moment and you felt your breath hitch as his eyes met yours. They glowed that faint red that reminded you of a dull neon light reflected on wet brick.
" I wouldn't leave you behind again. " Alastor told you softly under his breath. " Not intentionally. "
"Good. I'll be pissed. "
" I'll keep that in mind. "
His lips captured yours again, something more behind the kiss. It made you whole body light up like a Christmas tree, buzzing beneath your skin wherever he touched. The sound of the white noise on the broadcast faded and you felt your stomach do flips as the smell of damp wood and the sound of dripping water came to your ears. A few steps back as Alastor guided you back, the hard wood pressed into your lower back.
" Alastor...." You whispered as you were finally taking a small breath.
" I told you already .. you have been making my thoughts.... irritating. " Alastor grunted under his breath. His lips pressed against the nose of your neck. Could he feel your pulse? A shudder of a breath escaped you as you felt his teeth leave small nips along its way to the junction of your neck and shoulder.
" Do you know what you do to me? So irritating. Truly. Now I find myself even praishing the thought of seeing you anywhere but right here. "
You could feel your breath caught in your throat.
" Perhaps, instead , if I keep you here.... Like this .." Alastor's hand slid from your hip all the way up your belly and stopped at the junction of your breasts. " Perhaps then.... I would feel the crawling beneath my skin stop. Is that how it used to be for you? Mon Cher.... When those little petals would fall from your lips?"
He reached up with his other hand and his thumb brushed against your bottom lip. " My throat used to itch and scratch. My stomach would churn and the taste of everything had this linger of ginger. " You managed out.
" These months have been wonderful with you... Though now I crave just you even being near... I didn't know how much I had craved it before then as well."
You lean in closer and you let your fingers drift up his neck to the soft shaved part of his undercut. You felt his body press closer against yours. His knee was perfectly placed to rise up the knee length dress you had decided on for putting up boards. You made a small noise as it pressed against you through your panties. This was sudden and was making your heart beat sink in your belly and twist around.
The moment your lips parted you felt his tongue around yours. The sharpness of his teeth, the feel of his hand unbuttoning your dress and the sound of clothes shuffling, and the slightly cool air hitting bare skin. Your hands glides down and you felt for the buttons of his waistcoat. You could feel a rumble as you broke the kiss, a low growl in his throat like static.
Your held tilted to the side as you felt his lips against the skin of your neck again. The marks left behind stung for only a moment then made the rest of the skin around it tingle. It was off to think about for a brief moment. Being like this with Alastor, it has become a rare treat. Not often did his affections progress like this. The battle must have him riled up. The feeling of fingertips brushing against the spot where your breasts met your rips, a cup of a hand and the squeeze brought your mind back to the moment. Alastor's breath in your ear was hot.
" I adore you, unequivocally, mon cher. "
" You know how much I have loved you, " You let out a small chuckle under your breath, his smile stretched just a tad.
His coat slipped off and the buttons of his red button up were no match for your quick motions. You felt a rumble of a chuckle. You smile softly before you capture his lips in a kiss this time and your hand slid across his skin. Soft. Slightly fuzzy like velvet, you shivered slightly as you felt his knee press a little harder against you. His antlers had grown a few extra prongs as he gripped your legs and lifted you up with ease. Your legs wrapped around his waist and you felt the tug of his teeth against your lower lip. Your eyes fluttered closed, the feeling of his body keeping you pressed up against the bark of the tree, a little uncomfortable but you didn't have long to linger on that feeling as the feeling of fingers sliding closer to the edge of your lower lips.
The flavor of coffee left your mouth as Alastor parted from you and he leaned into your ear. " Already like this? So cute sometimes.." he cooed. " Now.... Let me savor the little sounds saved just for me."
A moan escaped your throat as a long slender finger slid inside of your entrance. Your fingers slid and gripped onto his bare shoulders, his body littered with little scars. Slowly, you felt him moving his digit in and out of you. God above he moved it so slow, but the hard tip of his finger curled and rubbed. His thumb brushed against your clit just enough to tease. You wiggled, hoping for a a bit more friction. Soft mewls and noises escaped and when your own eyes opened again you were met with half lidded red ones that watched every little expression.
" Do you want more?" His voice was low and thick. Rumbles of static filled his words.
You nodded, "y-yes, " you managed out but it was broken and mostly a whisper. You felt your entrance stretched a little as another finger slipped inside your wet folds.
Alastor pumped his fingers just a little faster, it made your body tingle and your legs twitch around his waist. You felt something against your inner thigh, warm and it throbbed. " Mmm, I want you to be louder...."
You felt his thumb press against your clit as he curled his long fingers. You could hear the soft wet sounds, your juices dripping down his knuckles. Your own hips bucked, you couldn't believe the needy moans spilling from your lips as Alastor continued his teasing. You felt a something sliding across your belly in curving motions like snakes, when you managed to glance down you saw the black tendrals curl around the cup of your breasts and end at your cleavage, the slight squeeze made a loud moan escaped.
" Mmm thats better. " Alastor praised. " I want to hear you..."
You made a whine at the absence of his fingers as he pulled them out of you. " A... Alastor..." The way you said his name was more like a prayer, a plead.
" When you say my name like that, " He began and you felt your thighs twitch as the tip of his cock rubbed against your clit, your juices covering his member. "I think of projecting this beautiful voice across the airwaves.... " He licked his lips and his eyes glowed even more. " No one would question whose you are.... "
You felt a tingle run down your spine, the tendrals squeezed as he spoke. Your moans muffled as you bit your bottom lip until you felt his cock slowly probing in your entrance, your walls squeezing and clenching at nothing as he pulled out and then back in.
" Then again ... It's like a little song just for me..." Alastor whispered and moan caught in his throat.
His cock pushed deeper into your pussy, his hands went to your hips and brought your body flush against his.You gripped tightly onto his shoulders as your walls stretched around his member, moans spilled from your lips. You slid your hands up and tangled them in the red and black locks under his ears. You felt them twitch above your fingertips.
Alastor was slow at first, savoring the small noises and wanton moans he was able to pry from you. His own moans began to mix with yours, the snap of his hips and the way his fingers dug into your hips made this tightness in your lower belly.
" A-Alastor....please... Please.." you didn't even know what you were begging for, you just wanted more. You felt tendrals around your thighs now, your legs getting spread open more for him.
"Louder. " He growled, his nails now sharper and you knew there would be pinpricks on your waistline now, and red welps formed under the roaming fingers as they moved across your sides and breasts.
Your moans echoed across the bayou, and you knew if anyone in the hall had been passing by they would have heard it as well. Your skin felt like it was on fire, you wanted more and less. You felt teeth graze across the nape of your neck. The tightness grew more.
" Scream for me, Mon Cher. "
"Alastor!"
The pace was nearly wild, his cock deep inside you as it pressed against your cervix. The sudden sharp thrusts brought loud moans out of you, pinprick of tears in the corner of your eyes as your walls clenched around his thick member. The sound of his growl in your ear and the he little moans hidden beneath his breath.
You felt like your vision had been dusted with white glitter as your fingers tugged on red strands of hair. His teeth sunk into your skin and you felt your skin break. Alastor moaned as you felt his hips harshly buck into your own, the tendrals holding you up melted off. His lips caught you into a kiss, the taste of iron made your head spin.
When he parted from you, the licked his lips for what remained of your blood on them. His eyes were slowly settling down to a dump glow rather than the intense bright of a few moments ago. His hand reached and touched your cheek, you were still attempting to catch your breath as you leaned into the touch.
You look at him with a soft gaze and let out a deep breath, your nerves still alight. Your hand slipped from his hair and neck to over his hand that was on your cheek. " I love you.... " You whispered.
" I love you as well, Mon Cher."

Okay so here was the little idea behind the Alastor x Angel! Reader was this:
Reader was Alastor's Guardian Angel when Alastor was Alive. Where she tried to lead him down a good path only to hilariously watch him become a serial killer. When she is finally reassigned to a different human she leaves him, not knowing that he had been feeling her presence and thinking she's his Lwa.
They meet again during an extermination (by complete accident on the readers part by even ending up down there. )
Okay okay. Since my Crimson Magnolia has come to an end ( except for an extra spicy epilogue coming soon)
What should I do next?
