Note
I have a tagging question. I'm writing a fic where character A is aged up from his canon age and shipped with character Z. I realized that aged up A is actually nearly the same character as his prototype version, character B, because A is just a younger B with a slightly different personality and background. But because this is an AU, the background doesn't matter and the grown up personality is all speculation anyway. The fandom considers A and B as different characters despite having the same name, but B is a very rare character that's almost never written about while A is a main character.
For this fic, should I only tag A/Z or is it fine to also tag B/Z, since this was intended to be older A but he's so similar to B he might as well be the same character, and I think B or B/Z fans may also like this fic? I like both A and B and their ship with Z, so I know I'd like it, but I don't know if I'd help or hinder people with this. I'd mention that this character is basically a fusion of A and B in the author's note so that people who don't like one or the other are still informed and can leave.
Hmmm. I think I'd personally just tag A/Z but then add a sentence in the summary along the lines of "Can be read as B/Z too"
That said, I can definitely see the case for tagging both since A and B have the same name. Now you've got me second-guessing.
I think I'll need to open this one up to a poll:
Please add nuance and/or explanation in the notes!
