been in a really bad reading slump lately, but i found this audiobook of iwtv on youtube that i really enjoy ! it's not riddled with a bunch of ads and the voice is perfect imo.

that being said, i was listening to it on the bus omw home from work yesterday and i zoned out for a bit just to immediately zone back in at the words "i believe i moaned aloud" being spoken in my headphones and i was like what the fuck did i miss ??

if i see another person complain about stories having a plot aside from romance i am going to fucking lose it- i just saw someone describe character arcs as "side quests" that distract from the main couple of my favorite manga

my brother in christ it's not a romance manga ?? yes the main characters are a couple BUT IT STILL HAS A PLOT ??

god forbid we develop the supporting cast i guess

you can critique that it might be misleading considering it often is mismarketed as a bl because the main couple is mlm, but this was a review i saw on volume 7. when you're that deep into a series you should know already that it isn't in the romance genre TT

the fact i've seen "booktok girlies" (self-titled) complain about books having "too many words on the page" more than once is actually concerning. i can't even laugh at it cause it's infuriating to me. you're not a "reader" if you refuse to read a paragraph that is more than three sentences long.

i've even seen people say they skip past all the descriptive and introspective passages in books and only read dialogue.. what ?? watch a TV show at that point, you clearly don't actually like reading.

colleen hoover has done irreparable damage to today's "readers" with her subpar writing. like please just download wattpad if you're after smutty dialogue-heavy trash.

hilariously, i struggled with first-person POV when i picked up reading again

i read a fair bit as a kid, but as a teen i read almost exclusively fanfiction. fanfic, unless it's self-insert (which i can't stand) is almost always written in third person POV

i don't have an issue with any perspective now, i read Linghun recently which switched between first, second, and third person POV depending on which character the chapter followed and it was fantastic ! letting petty shit like this deter you from a book is wild

and this. this was what katniss saw in coin. she recognized that coin hated the people who committed the acts enough to commit such acts against them as revenge. she recognized that the cycle would simply continue with her, and put a stop to it. because katniss hated the acts more than she hated the people who committed them.

No but the Hunger Games really said "what do you hate more- the atrocities or the people who commit them against you? Because like it or not there IS a difference. If you hate the people who commit acts of pure evil more than you hate the acts themselves, what will stop you from becoming just like your enemies in your pursuit of justice? What will keep you from commiting those very same acts against THEM when the opportunity arises? And what then? The cycle of pain and suffering will never stop. Round and round it'll go. Nothing will ever change. But. BUT. If you hate the atrocities. If you hate the vile, senseless acts MORE than you hate the people who did them to you. If you are able to see that evil is evil regardless of who does it... The cycle ends with you. No, you may never get justice. But you will never be responsible for making others, even your enemies, suffer the same crimes you have. The atrocities will never be committed by you, never by your hand. And that's the way you change the world. It's the ONLY way" and that's why I am sure it will never stop being one of the most relevant works of fiction ever created

i'm in such a bad reading slump rn.. (that isn't entirely true, i've been reading fanfics lately, but) anytime i try to pick up an actual physical book i just cannot and i'm so sad cause i had great plans for my october reading :((

the plan was frankenstein, linghun and interview with the vampire. i also have house of leaves, but i know that one will take a while so was saving it for november
