it  isn’t  until  he  notices  the  only  -  slightly  restricted  fervor  in  which  the  disabato  sibling  grabs  her  second  drink  that  mathias  opts  to  join  in  ,  grabbing  a  glass  as  she  does  .  mathias  brings  the  flute  to  his  flush  lips  ,  tossing  it  back  &  allowing  the  carbonated  liquid  to  travel  down  his  throat  smoothly  .  it’s  one  thing  to  pretend  ,  to  portray  an  act  in  front  of  almost  ten  million  subscribers  ,  to  depict  his  life  at  one  thing  when  it  was  so  UTTERLY  different  .  the  behind  the  scenes  wasn’t  doused  in  glamour  ,  dripping  wealth  like  those  who  were  on  the  outside  of  it  all  may  have  believed  .  it  was  masquerading  as  the  media  -  trained  puppets  ,  those  pulling  the  strings  hidden  from  view  &  wholly  unacknowledged  .  as  marla  speaks  ,  mathias  allows  his  rather  intense  gaze  to  settle  on  her  ,  eyes  colored  a  honey  brown  never  straying  as  he  watches  her  lips  form  the  words  .  ‘  thank  you  .  ’  is  the  most  he  can  come  up  with  ,  mathias  always  on  the  cusp  of  being  too  stand  -  offish  ,  but  he  saves  it  ,  hand  resting  on  the  hand  of  her  back  as  he  pulls  marla  close  to  him  ,  the  movement  familiar  . ‘  you  look  great . remind  me  to  get  a  picture  of  you  for  my  story  .  ’

her  lips  curve  into  an  amused  smirk  as  she  leans  into  his  touch  a  little  ,  followed  by  a  curt  nod  "  the  epitome  of  modern  romance  .  "  she  muses  sardonically  .  despite  her  lack  of  acknowledgement  ,  the  compliment  he  gives  her  doesn't  go  unnoticed  and  she  finds  herself  pruning  a  little  .  she's  aware  that  she  looks  good  ,  obviously  ,  but  the  appreciation  is  always  welcomed  .  the  arrangement  with  mathias  is  a  peculiar  one  ;  it's  supposed  to  make  marla  appear  a  little  more  warm -  more  HUMAN  .  there's  a  stark  contrast  between  the  passion  and  emotion  marla  shows  when  performing  ,  and  the  aura  she  gives  off  pretty  much  any  OTHER  time  .  it  makes  for  an  outstanding  recital  but  meager  media  presence  .  she  slips  her  fingers  through  his  with  ease  ,  interlocking  them  delicately  .  “  as  long  as  i  get  to  approve  it  first  .  can’t  be  letting  your  admirers  think  your  girlfriend  has  a  bad  side  .  ”

according to the press & the online blogs & fan accounts that seemed intent to follow his every move, he was currently in a serious relationship with marla disabato – the infamous violinist who brought esteem to her family’s name, to make their reputation gleam & sparkle with all of her righteous accomplishments. they had perfected the image of the good girl dating the bad guy, guiding him down the path of repairing the scandalous list of delinquencies he’s committed since touching down in the city of angels. it’s why they were expected to appear at this bbmas after party, the world of music he had been toeing the line of thanks to the disabato name, whether it was marla or mason, & right now, he was on the verge of cracking the perfected person of calm that masked his features. ‘ i would love if we could resolutely drunk. ’ he murmurs, having leaned in to whisper against his ear, lips brushing against her skin for the potential photo that the anyone in this picture could be taking, mathias bacardi always aware of when people could possibly be watching.

one  palm  encompasses  a  flute  of  champagne ,  the  other  delicately  (  if  not  fastidiously  )  straightens  her dress  as  her  gaze  fixates  on  her  surroundings  .  marla  has  perfected  her  brazen  stare  by  now  ,  to  the  point  that  nobody  could  tell  that internally  her  anxiety  was  clawing  to  break  surface .  she  barely  falters  at  the  soft  breath  from  mathias'  parted  lips  as  they  brush  her  skin  ,  but  leans  into  the  touch  for  the  feigned  appearance  of  intimacy .  her  fingers  move  to  cup  his  jaw ,  gently  turning  his  head  so  her  lips  meet  his  lobe  instead  ,    "  i  plan  to  get  absolutely  shit  -  faced.  god  knows  i  need  to  be  .  "  she  mutters  .  she  takes  a  moment  to  linger  before  she  finally  pulls  away  ,  a  rather  exaggerated  smile  painted  across  her  features  as  she  tips  back  her  champagne  flute  ,  dusting  off  the  remnants  before  she's  reaching  to  pluck  another  from  a  passing  tray  .  she  turns  back  to  face  him  ,  her  hand  strategically  placed  upon  his  upper  arm .  it  wasn’t his  fault  that  they  were  caught  in  this  situation  ,  but  the  entire  facade  just  felt  like  a  direly  desperate  attempt  for  attention  to  marla  ,  which  she  supposes  it is  ,  and  she  can’t  help  but  feel  like  a  sell  out  (  though  isn’t  that  what  the  world  of  fame  is  all  about ?  )  .  she  decides  to  maybe  take  it  a  little  easier  on  him  ,  at  least  for  the  night  .  “  you  scrub  up  quite  well  .  ”  she  says  ,  pushing  aside  her  internal  instinct  to  cringe  at  her  own  earnesty  .
