“ well , he didn’t aim away ” bickering is an INSTINCT , even with frayed nerves and worry creeping up her spine . she really hates working for shield at moments like this . the thing is jia knows she’s being irrational , of course ward couldn’t have escaped a freak storm , but she likes to think she’s pretty smart . not alya smart , few are , but smart enough to get them out of here one way or another and not distract herself bickering with her best friends husband . another situation where she’s OVERESTIMATED her abilities because they’re a few decades back / there are shield agents ready to rush in and her mind is putting priority on finding ways to insult morse . it’s probably s h o c k at the situation - that’s what she’ll claim when they eventually get home and they need to report back to her mother . she wasted valuable time because of shock . she thinks it’ll WORK .
“ if anyone could perform a MIRACLE and reinvent time travel with nothing - it’ll be you , aly . ”
another INSTINCT , offering her oldest friend support , that’s so natural she barely needs to think . and then morse’s words actually click in her brain - they could cancel someone’s existence right now - and her other INSTINCTS take over . the ones she learned training with her parents . quick movements tug off her jacket - too restricting - and VANITY takes over for a moment to fix her hair “ we try not to hurt them too bad then ” she says , certain that they cant have much more than minutes before the agents get into the plane “ i can’t teleport us out . well , i can , but it’s a pretty big RISK . i don’t know what’s up with the other dimension / who knows where we could end up . short range ONLY right now . so , the question is are we fighting our way out and running or do we wanna go see old shield ? ” / @alyc
viv flushes at the compliment but doesn’t acknowledge it, her gaze fixed out the window as her mind continued to race, thinking over the potential outcomes of the situation. she has to remind herself that it’s fine, she’s traveled through time before. they’re probably in a different timeline and nothing their presence changes will even matter. well, unless they’re not in a different timeline. and in that case, it probably wasn’t the best idea to go head to head with the agents that had been training them since birth.
they might even still be jumpy around inhumans at this point, viv’s not sure, but she’s not willing to put jia in even the slightest bit of danger by provoking a fight unnecessarily. maybe they could find her parents if they go see old shield, which would be a massive help with the whole reinventing time travel thing. she was sure she could reverse engineer the stories she’s heard and what she’s learned working for her parents over the years, but shield’s resources would be incredibly helpful and the fitzsimmonses work better together anyway.
“ —— uhhh. i need my parents. ”
she stuttered the words out hesitantly, not sure if she was making the right choice. could she even tell them they were her parents if they managed to find them? they were PROBABLY in a different timeline, but the thought of accidentally altering their timeline had her squirming regardless. “ i mean. we could probably get old shield to help us. reinventing time travel would be a LOT easier with my parents. i think we should play nice for now. right? ” / @benjcmin

one thing alya fitzsimmons did not inherit from jemma simmons was her mum’s love of homework. it was all busy work to alya. for the most part, she found it too easy and it couldn’t hold her attention for too long before she got antsy. she’d much rather be at her parent’s heels in the lab, watching them do REAL science and getting to help out when possible. having to actually sit down and do homework was downright torture to her. she was much more of a hands-on learner.
so when her attention started to wane, she was glad it was her dad at her side instead of her mum. mum caught on to her attempts to put off finishing her work much quicker than dad. he was way more likely to indulge her. the pencil in her hand was set down on the table as she scooted her chair towards him, head dropping to rest against his arm when the scars on his forearm caught her eye. without a word, she reached out to run her fingers over the raised skin. she’d never noticed those before, somehow. had they always been there?
her confusion must’ve been written on her face as she studied the scars, because her dad turned over his arm to give her a better look as he explained their source. “ twice?! ” brows furrowed and she leaned in to peer closer at his forearm before twisting to look up at him. “ the odds of that are.... miniscule? ” she’s trying out a new word, examining his reaction to affirm that was the proper usage before continuing. “ how’d you break it in the same place TWICE? were you my age? or older? or younger? ”
@alyc asked !! “TRACE.” fitz & alya
!! ”TRACE” to purposefully touch my muse’s scar(s). !!
his ma had never really been able to help with his homework , it wasn’t her fault and he hadn’t ever held it against her … he hadn’t ever really needed the help either so it worked out okay. but he enjoyed helping alya with anything he could help her with , anything she needed help with once she had tried it herself.
his head tilted to the side as his daughter’s fingers traced across the barely there circular scars along his forearm. they’d stand out more on tanned skin but there had never been a time in his life when he was tanned; typical scot was pasty as the bloody snow.
“ ah. ” and he knew the look in his daughter’s face well enough to know when she had a question. all minds of homework forgotten , leo scrubbed his fingers over his stubbled jaw as he turned to her, twisting his arm over so it lay flat on the table between them. “ well y’know i broke that arm twice in the same place which is … is really really not that lucky. ”

another time she might feel a little offended at how clear it is the blond means her but now her mind is still so FOCUSED on the date . “ i know it’s not your fault / it’s your HUSBANDS fault for not flying away fast enough ” next time she’s grabbing viv and going , they can have their weekly meet up and drinks on a nice beach somewhere instead of that flying death trap . it’d be so much more PEACEFUL that way , she wouldn’t be stuck with man - children or in a time where she wasn’t even born yet .
she had been in a positively good mood that morning , though she’s sure benjamin wouldn’t believe it , but every trace of that happy mood has been RIPPED from her . the shadows feel wrong here , like enemies rather than constant companions . part of her worries she might be sick / part of her makes sure to a i m for benjamins shoes if she is - they’re watching her . that’s why it feels wrong , the shadows are watching her and making her skin crawl / the slightest noise making her flinch .
“ i don’t know about YOU but they never covered this in my training ” odd , considering her existence is only possible via time travel , shield should have given some time travel training by now . “ we should GO - anywhere - just away from here . ” / @alyc
there was a pounding in her ears, drowning out the beginnings of benji and jia’s bickering as viv jumped out of her seat and headed straight for a control panel. ‘ twenty fifteen ’ echoed in the back of her mind as she swiped through it with a dumb look on her face, her brain shifting into overdrive as the facts settled in. it wasn’t so much the time hop that threw her for a loop, she’d had an understanding of that for as long as she could remember. it was the unexpected time storm that she was completely unprepared to handle.
“ i ... does this mean i have to reinvent time travel? i don’t think i have all my equipment for that on the bus. ”
as she says it, she has the urge to consult her parents about how to tackle but it only takes her a moment to realize she can’t. then she realized they’ve been dragged back to TWENTY FIFTEEN and her mom might not even been on this planet right now and she starts to sweat a bit, but she can’t say for sure if she misremembering the timeline considering how vague her parents always were about this period of their life. she’s about to agree with jia, having finally tuned back into the conversation, when movement outside of the plane catches her eye through the window. “ UM, i don’t think we’ll have much of a choice in that one once those shield agents outside board the plane, ” she explains, pointing out the window and looking to benji with concern on her face. / @benjcmin
