i still haven't left your house and i'm now sitting at your breakfast nook at 3am. the thing about dadji is that he explicitly both is and isn't lan sizhui's dad and i'm more pleased with that than if he literally called lwj “dad”

lsz refers to him as "like a father and a brother to me" and only ever addresses him by sobriquet on-page, both of which suggest that he is not formally regarded as lwj's son within the clan. BUT lsz also explains that during the years of lwj's seclusion "he couldn't take care of me," implying that lwj did directly take care of him after that, apparently for many years (with the rabbit burying etc etc)

i think this gels with a lan clan that raises kids pretty communally. but it ALSO gels with nobody knowing what the fuck to do with this baby lwj showed up with

i can imagine a lwj who was so depressed and Out Of It at that point that he didn't actually expect to become a-yuan's caretaker. he expected to protect wwx's legacy/an innocent kid by giving him to people he knew would raise him well, and then...rot in bed. when lsz said lwj "couldn't take care of him" during seclusion you could read that as lack of emotional capacity as well

but he's such a great teacher to the juniors after that, balancing high expectations with knowing when to relax the rules or give praise, that i can envision an arc where he pulled himself out of the worst of the depression specifically to make sure a-yuan only got the parts of lan upbringing/moral code that would help him to thrive--not the repression and loneliness that lwj went through

so he may have become dadji in ways that even he didn't initially expect

(and then of course like. SYMBOLICALLY, via the lens of wwx's daydreams, lsz is both of their son. the "little one" missing from his memory of his parents and the donkey. that's more abt wwx's feelings for lwj and his vision of family/a happy ending, but for lwj it feels more concrete in conjunction with that history)

i strongly believe that in any universe modern or otherwise lwj uses lan xichen as a kind of confessional like a catholic priest. he literally comes into lan xichen's room at four pm precisely because that's the scheduled time that he allows himself to share an Emotion with his brother and sits down and says in a distinctly monotone yet perfectly recognisably anguished tone 'brother i have sinned' and lan xichen sighs very quietly because he doesn't want to hurt his brother's feelings and puts down his pen and says 'is this about wei wuxian' very gently and Lan Wangji is like 'mn' because it has never once Not been about wei wuxian. and then he says something that is Kind Of Weird, But Still Not A Sin like 'he fell asleep when we were studying and i watched his ribcage moving up and down for thirty eight minutes until he choked on nothing and woke himself up; am i evil' and once again lan xichen will kind of not-sigh in a way that makes it very obvious that in all other ways except physical he Is, Indeed, Sighing and has to reassure the most rigidly distraught younger brother in the history of mankind that what he is suffering from is in fact a malady known colloquially as a crush

I think it's really funny that out of 3zun the one that probably likes drinking alcohol the most is in fact Lan Xichen.

Nie Mingjue canonically doesn't like drinking very much. Qinghe alcohol is probably effective for use as paint stripper so he might have a decent tolerance, he just doesn't enjoy it.

Jin Guangyao has likely deliberately worked up the exact tolerance he needs to drink a socially appropiate amount of alcohol at events without actully getting drunk, because I think the act of not being of sound mind in public is like a horror movie to him.

But Lan Xichen. Lan Xichen invented a whole new cultivation trick just to bypass his family's "one sip and we pass the fuck out" piss poor tolerance gene so he can drink as much alcohol as he wants. This man wants to go get white girl drunk with his sworn brothers so bad and neither of them are into it please pray for him.
