“Late one night after a marathon of takes, Leonard and I decided we had had enough. Telling no one, we climbed into his little rented Fiat 500, pointed it in the direction of the nearest coast, and drove. Two and half hours later, we checked ourselves into a cheap pensione a short walk from the beach, bought three bottles of red wine, and headed for the water. Romeo and Juliet were playing hooky. We ran down the beach, carrying our shoes and the wine. We laughed at nothing, simply because we could and because no one was watching us. We cried our eyes out. We got good and drunk. We made out.”
