Is it normal to masturbate?
It is absolutely normal! Even young children masturbate as a way to explore and learn about their bodies. Masturbation is only a problem if it begins to interfere with a person's daily life, otherwise it's a safe and healthy way to experience sexual pleasure.-Rachel

My period was supposed to start about a week ago. Sometimes they are irregular and come a couple weeks later, but, about the time it normally starts I was in vacation with my boyfriend and we ended up having sex. I have had small cramps that I normally get before I start but I read that could also be related to pregnancy. I haven't taken a test yet but what can I do to prepare myself for the worst? As a minor it's kind of hard to keep it to myself but I have to for now.
If the home test is positive, you may want to consult your doctor or take a trip to Planned Parenthood for additional tests. There, they will be able to provide you with options and resources that will help you with your decision if you are indeed pregnant. In the meantime, do you have a support system that you can fall back on? In your case it may not be your parents, but do you have friends or family members that can have your back? It's difficult to make recommendations for how to prepare for situations like this as circumstances vary from person to person, but if I could give any piece of advice, it would be to take this one step at a time. Take the test, see what the results are, and then go from there. It's all very scary stuff, but you don't have to go through it alone.-Rachel

It's been over 72 hours since the "incident" happened.... Would the plan B pill still be helpful? I'm only 17 so the clinic is out of the question since my parents have no idea and they wouldn't allow me to do anything but have the baby (if that happens to be what's going on). I'm taking the at home test tomorrow but if it's positive can the pill still help or is there anything else I could do?
How long has it been since you've last had sex? Emergency Contraception is most effective when taken within 72 hours, as you know, but it can be taken with some degree of effectiveness for up to five days after unprotected sex. It's difficult to say when the effectiveness of EC begins to wane as it varies depending on individual biological factors, but if it's been less than a week, you may want to consider trying it. Home pregnancy tests are effective if taken AFTER your first missed period. If you have not missed your period yet, the test will be ineffective.

all women have the right to decide if they want birth control or an abortion, but planned parenthood is kind of a fucked organization. it's just like any other federally funded organization.
Sorry you feel that way. Planned Parenthood has helped millions of people access safe and affordable reproductive healthcare, all the while providing opportunities for young people to stay informed and get involved in their communities. Not sure what you mean by "fucked" but if you'd like to do some research on the organization they have their 2012-2013 annual report posted on their website.

Someone asked us:
what were the birth control options 100 years ago?
What an interesting question! One hundred years ago, it was 1914. Woodrow Wilson was president; American women couldn’t vote; and getting birth control was a major hassle that was impossible for many.

one of my fav things about planned parenthood is that they don’t use gendered words when talking about reproductive health and I just love that

My gf an I are getting ready to have sex for the first time. We don't trust condoms and want to get birth control. How could she get it without her parents finding out and without using her parents insurance. She's 16 and I'm 17 taking her to get it isn't a problem we just don't know how all of it works. If u could please answer privately that would be great thank you so much
She may want to consider paying out of pocket for the birth control. The cost of birth control varies depending on the type. Birth control pills, for example, cost between $15 and $50 a month. She may also need a medical exam in order to get a prescription, which would cost somewhere between $35 and $250. Planned Parenthood offers services on a sliding scale fee, so she may be eligible to receive services at reduced cost. To find out for sure, she will have to contact her local Planned Parenthood clinic.
For the first month of taking birth control pills it is recommended to also use a backup form of birth control, like condoms. After the first month, a backup method is not needed as long as the person is using their birth control consistently (every day, preferably around the same time) and correctly.
(I couldn't answer this privately, but I assume that since you are on anon it will be safe to publish). I hope this helps!

am I required to show my insurance for an abortion? I'm 19 and still on with my parents. I do not want them finding out. Are there any other ways I can pay without using my insurance ?
You do not need to show your insurance for an abortion. If you're concerned about your parents finding out, your other option is to pay out of pocket for the procedure. An abortion typically costs between $300 and $950 but you will have to contact your local clinic to find out an exact cost. Since Planned Parenthood offers services on a sliding scale fee depending on income, you may be eligible for financial assistance.

NARAL Pro-Choice America
Today is the 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade! We created this graphic because 70% of Americans support the principles of Roe, and we need to show anti-choice politicians around the country that we won’t be silent while they work to take away our reproductive rights. LIKE and SHARE it so we can show them, loud and clear, that pro-choice values are American values.

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing a challenge to a buffer zone law that protects patients and staff at clinics in Massachusetts from anti-choice harassment and violence. Across the country, extreme, often violent, anti-choice protesters physically block access to clinics and intimidate people exercising their constitutionally protected rights.  Learn more about this issue and the laws that exist to protect patients and their doctors.
