June 3, 1965: Astronaut Ed White becomes the first American to "walk" in space
Gemini 4 was the second manned flight of the Gemini program and sought to establish a new American duration record of four days in space. Its secondary objective and most memorable event was White's extra-vehicular activity, during which he free-floated outside the spacecraft and took photos of Earth.
