I could literally sit down and explain to penis-possessors that when we have our periods, it isn’t just blood. We are shedding the lining of our uterine walls. I could explain to them that our uteruses swell to twice their size and our pelvic floor expands as though we are giving birth - essentially we are giving birth to the insides of our uteruses. I could sit there and explain this to them, that we’re not just being dramatic, and they’d be more focused on “ew gross periods.” For those of us that are anemic, this can be a dangerous time of month - our blood doesn’t clot well. We have to take iron pills, and sometimes it’s necessary for us to be on birth control so our periods are lighter. Those 3-5 days are filled with cramps, nausea, vomiting, headaches, body aches, bloating, irritability, and fatigue, and even fainting.
But yeah, you’re uncomfortable when we take a tampon out of our bags.

just because you have a meltdown every now and again and cry for no reason and feel lonely sometimes, doesn’t mean you aren’t a strong person. believe me, you are.

Y'ALL. CHECK OUT THIS EMAIL MY PERIOD TRACKER APP JUST SENT ME
I USE THIS APP BECAUSE IT’S NOT PINK AND FLOWERY, AND SINCE ALL OF THE LANGUAGE IS WRITTEN IN THE SECOND PERSON, IT DOESN’T IMPLICITLY GENDER ME
BUT LIKE THIS IS NEXT LEVEL SHIT. DO Y'ALL KNOW HOW RARE IT IS FOR PRODUCTS THAT ARE AT ALL RELATED TO MENSTRUATION TO BE TRANS INCLUSIVE. LIKE I HAVE LITERALLY WRITTEN POETRY ABOUT MY SEARCH TO FIND PERIOD PRODUCTS THAT DON’T MISGENDER ME. EVEN PRODUCTS THAT TRY TO BE MORE SOCIALLY AWARE MARKET EXCLUSIVELY TO WOMEN AND DON’T EVEN ATTEMPT TO USE INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE.
BUT THIS. THIS IS SO EXCITING TO ME, THAT MY EXISTENCE IS NOT ONLY NOT BEING IMPLICITLY INVALIDATED BUT ACTUALLY EXPLICITLY INCLUDED? THIS IS EVERYTHING
EVERYONE WHO MENSTRUATES AND HAS A SMART PHONE SHOULD GO DOWNLOAD THIS APP, CLUE BY BIOWINK, IMMEDIATELY

PMDD is a tsunami.
“Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder is like a tsunami. The tsunami is not our fault. A PMDD woman Is hit by an increasingly worsening emotional tsunami which also hits her mentally and physically from ovulation to menstruation on a monthly basis until menopause. This tsunami knocks a woman away off centre and sometimes away from her loved ones each month. Each month the woman must work hard to rebuild relationships that are damaged. This can continue for forty years or for the whole of a woman’s reproductive life. As it worsens, a woman may only have a few good days a month as much time is spent rebuilding from each worsening emotional tsunami. There is hope however for PMDD women, PMDD families and PMDD communities. With correct medical and professional treatment the tsunami can be tamed. PMDD may occur together with other illnesses making it difficult to diagnose and is often misdiagnosed as bipolar disorder due to the fluctuating nature of the illness. PMDD women and PMDD families are true heroes for continuing the fight each month. PMDD women and deserve to be treated with loving-kindness and sometimes with a bit of firmness. PMDD family and friends are true heroes as well because of the vital support they give to these tsunami warriors. Individually we suffer these tsunamis at all corners of the earth, but collectively, we can help the next generation of women families and Doctors. And what causes the earthquake that causes the tsunami? It is a huge problem in our genes that only the ‘Great Physician’ can heal in his own due time. PMS is to PMDD what a roller coaster is to a tsunami. By treating the PMDD we treat the whole family and save the whole family. This may be the best way to describe PMDD to a non-sufferer.”
