Another thing about the M:I8 submarine sequence (I am obsessed, it could have been the entire movie and I'd be satisfied): it feels like the closest we've ever gotten to Ethan panicking. Like, he's been terrified before, but there is usually something he can do or focus on to get through it. He has to get a case or detonator or catch up to that guy or something. But in the Sevastopol, it's just him. He already has what he needs, but he can't get out. Objects are falling all around him, threatening to crush him. Even when he finds an alternate solution, he doesn't fit in the tube with all his gear. Could he have gotten the oxygen tank off without cutting the whole thing? Maybe, but his first and only thought is to grab his knife. He's hitting the door of the torpedo tube with his equipment just to get it open, which can't happen until the tube fills with water to equalize the pressure. The tube is only empty because the Entity tricked the crew into firing that torpedo in the first place. And after that, success of the mission still means dying, just not dying in there where no one can find him.

Ethan has no concept of embarrassment. he dressed up as a hippy Czech guy to fly to Shanghai to save his wife. he crashed a funeral to chase Walker. he jumps out of a window in front of a roomful of people. he will crash his car into ANY building. he will get in a bathroom stall with two other men and look gay. and then get his ass beat in said bathroom. he will even run into traffic to get arrested because his best friend just died. his insides are a gordian knot of anxiety and dread but social anxiety is not part of that equation

I keep going insane thinking about the cows at the end of FR. After Ethan lands from the plane/burning parachute he sees that farmer with the cows and gives him a lil wave and I just think about how he's from a Wisconsin dairy farm and its like everything came full circle in a way and its making me emotional ok
