Why Hera Isn't The Jealous Wife You Think She is ...
Yes, you read that right.
One of the biggest misconceptions about Hera in modern popular culture is that she's waiting in the dark, ready to strike out at Zeus' next extramarital affair and bastard child, but, eh ... that paints an largely inaccurate depiction of what's ACTUALLY going on.
Firstly, Zeus has somewhere between 92 to 100 children (I'm not kidding when I say there's literally a entire book written about this subject) whereas you can literally count all of the women and children Hera had a problem with, on both hands.
Aegina (mother of Aeacus)
Leto (mother of Artemis and Apollo)
Io (mother of Epaphus)
Elara (mother of Tityos)
Callisto (mother of Arcas)
Semele (mother of Dionysus)
Alcmene (mother of Herakles)
Lamia (mother of Akheilos)
Persephone (mother of Zagreus)
Aphrodite (mother of Priapus)
Aëtos (the only man)
Yup, that's literally ALL OF THE TIMES Hera has gone 'woman scorned'. Two of the aforementioned examples are not even 'canon' (Persephone and Aphrodite), and while it may still seem like a lot by itself, doing the math you realize that it's only 7-10% since it's ZEUS we're talking about. Sometimes she'll entirely leave the moms alone and exclusively go after the kids, sometimes she'll mostly go after the mom and otherwise leave the kids alone, sometimes she'll go after both ... Not saying that what Hera does isn't disproportionate, especially if they were victims of SA, but with Io, it was little more than harmless trolling and she usually gets over it eventually (Leto is the only one she's still salty about).
(Also does anyone else notice that she never went after Zeus' daughters? It's not a coincidence when that Dionysus was raised as a girl to protect him from Hera's wrath!)
Why are these ones the only ones she got upset about? Well, it's not because they were especially loved by Zeus (only Leto, Semele, and Alcmene), or that their kids were dearer to him than Hera's (only Leto, Semele, and Alcmene). Hell, in The Iliad, when Zeus listed off his greatest loves to Hera, he only mentioned Leto, Semele, and Alcmene. Rather, it's the catharsis effect. See, Hera is the long-suffering-in-silence wife, who willingly turns a blind eye to Zeus' 'sex-capades', because that's what she knowingly signed up for, until her resentment builds up overtime and indiscriminately explodes onto whomever is his current flavour of the week. Sure, there may be other contributing factors at play as to why she targets these specific women (e.g. Semele is a priestess and Hera's great-granddaughter through Ares, Io is her priestess, etc.), but all in all, Hera is the woman wearing the queenly mask and heavy is the head who wears the crown.
Why did I say that Hera knew what she signed up for? Zeus is the King of Gods (so King of Kings), and real life kings in Ancient Greece (and elsewhere!) were polygamists - one queen consort and as many concubines as he desired. The Queen Consort's role is to manage the harem and her sons are automatically considered next in line to the throne. Hera is listed as Zeus' third wife (Metis as his first and Themis as his second) and the only one who is ever acknowledged as Queen (because his previous marriages occurred BEFORE he ascended to the throne post-Titanomachy - Rhea was Queen Dowager after they overthrew Cronus), but he also has Eurynome, Demeter, Mnemosyne, Leto, Maia, and co. as his concubines. Notice how with the sole exception of Leto, Hera never got mad about the goddesses Zeus knocked up. That's because if they bear Zeus a child, they're automatically the newest addition to his harem. Leto is the sole goddess to ever bear the brunt of Hera's wrath, because she's that favourite concubine who poses a potential threat to Hera (if you catch my drift).
(If you want a better understanding of harem politics, then watch any Chinese palace drama.)
I'd also like to mention that in Ancient Greece, it was legal to murder your husband's mistresses, and so what Hera did wasn't wrong or illegal in the eyes of Ancient Greeks. It was, in fact, probably cathartic since women had to live in the fear of being cast out onto the streets if their husband decided to divorce them for another wife. Moreover, Hera, as the Queen consort, had the authority to cast any disciplinary action on any women and children of the harem as she saw fit. In the eyes of the law, children of the concubine were always servants to children of the wife. That's what Jason was trying to do to Medea by the way, and why she reacted in the way she did (killing the other woman and even her own children).
Zeus and Hera, as hard as it may be for some to believe, is/were THE OTP of the Hellenistic religion, even if the myths depict them as an marriage of convenience at best (because the Ancient Greeks liked to project their own sociocultural norms onto their mythology). Still, I can personally understand that. In ancient China, the Emperor was the dragon and father of the nation, the Empress was the phoenix and mother of the nation. There was even a saying that the Emperor and Empress were two bodies with one mind. Even if people knew the truth about royal marriages behind closed doors, they were still revered as the Perfect Couple in the public sphere.

the written by men thing is insane the history of phaedra and medea in literature isn't fucking demonization its whitewashing, later sources make phaedra completely fucking innocent and its a big misunderstanding, medea is found in the right in court for the muder of her children. Why the fuck are we bringing in weird Spanish inquisition ass beliefs to greek mythology????? 😭
shit the whitewashing is like in the original play too euripidies got payed a shit ton of money to change both plays to make it more palatable.
Yeah I think Euripides was in the minority when he depicted Medea as the one to kill her children, nearly everyone else had it be the Corinthians. With that said, Euripides still went above and beyond to portray Medea as sympathetic, even tho her reasoning was entirely selfish and cruel bc HES A GOOD WRITER! Retelling writers going above and beyond to sanitize what Medea did is ironically pretty sexist.

The idea that children love fairy tales because fairy tales treat them seriously and do not shy away from the violence and danger the world has in store strikes me as very correct, but the fact it is generally expressed as "it is dangerous to go alone in the woods because there are wolves there"... gives me pause.
To begin with, this is just one fairy tale narrative (little red riding hood), which is thus elevated to the rank of "quintessential fairy tale" (debatable at best); secondly, this is a (deliberate?) misrepresentation of the tale's *actual* danger, which is the wolf specifically *as it lowers the child's defenses by impersonating her grandma after eating her*. It's not about the child being attacked by a wild wolf in the forest, it's about the horror of using familiar and comforting surroundings within the family sphere as a decoy (the plan is quite an elaborate one, too). And finally, this ties into my main remark, which is that in many fairy tales (a majority? I don't know), the danger children (or more generally fairy tale protagonists) face is less related to a foreign monster than the family itself: snow white, obviously, but also hansel and gretel - abandoned in the forest by their parents, twice!; rumpelstiltskin: the heroine was sold to the king by her lying, greedy father, and risks being executed by her master for most of the tale; donkey skin (self-explanatory); bluebeard (similar forced marriage situation); cinderella (and all the cruel step-mother stories in general...) - also self-explanatory...
Fairy tales tend to admit freely that families and parents can be actively harmful to children, whose perspectives the narrative centers; which is a (well-known) fact that makes everyone uncomfortable Always. So I think it's disingenuous at best and dangerous at worst to act as though the violence comes from the wolves outside and not the family inside.

Sun and moon lore in SOTM spoilers
After seeing the new story. spoilers below
and learning of Fiona and Edwin and the mimic.
and how Fiona is represented as the sun, light.
and how Edwin is represented as destruction, darkness.
= sun/moon dynamic reference back in sb, with sun/Fiona coming out in light mode, and Edwin coming out in darkness mode.
Edwin is revealed to have been violent to the mimic, where it learned that behavior. in sb people theory if Gregory was a mimic. if go based of Freddy upgrade eyes, seeing the inside of Gregory skeleton structure. So if moon is Edwin reborn, explains moon violent behavior to Gregory where sun/Fiona wanted the mimic fixed and not destroyed. Edwin would rather destroyed it instead.

in the background ambiance you can hear the voice say "her end" while in the daycare.
her??? Fiona end?? i always thought that line was weird because who was her back then???
Moon comment "no more sun, take your nap" , eerily similar to Edwin behavior to Fiona AI/sun telling her she not the real Fiona and he does not want to hear her voice anymore. and to leave him alone.
And also sun singing there sad song, how no more sun, go away. Edwin rejection of Fiona ai.
This behavior is seen in sb/ruin sun/moon behavior that reflects back to Edwin and Fiona...so it leaves question did there spirit hunt the newer sun/moon animatronic or?
In the mini game in moon exe.? we appear to be the mimic building moon/Edwin a new body? so he can find peace and it starts to light up.. hinting sun/Fiona spirit has come back to him, and they are reunited together with Edwin/moon in the new body.
Did the mimic try to rebuild his parents? if he can mimic Edwin, perhaps he learned how to build things to.
and sun and moon animatronic are created based of his creator Edwin and his wife/Fiona?
Update: side note, Edwin and Fiona family picture with there son. Edwin in moon colors, and Fiona in sun color. also Fiona does have a tooth gap in her married photo. and noticed sun has tooth gap to in the sb artwork.
Also Edwin was revealed to have humor/jokes. though he more twisted in sb moon version with his jokes.
In the sotm, there a secret boss fight underground, of a moon locked down there in chains.. I think that might been Edwin locked down there, by the mimic. and more likely dead, then later reanimated. similar to Afton?? also the moon has a voice of a older man, which probably Edwin's. he keeps saying sleep/hush. and that was Fiona ai goal to put the mimic to sleep, and told it to sleep and their parents loved them.
Checking the voice actor for sleepy moon, shows he has same voice actor as Edwin.

I wrote a little fic based off @bedupolker mouseworld, specifically this drawing, and I wanted to share it. I hope it's okay that I do. All credit for Mouseworld and its characters go to @bedupolker.
Love is Learned in All the Bright Spaces
When Rusty met Mariella, he wasn’t looking for a relationship, let alone a family. But now, as he tucks in the last little one, all fed and warm from his bath, he can't bring himself to regret his choices.
“You kids ready for a story?” Rusty asks, moving Ed's tail back under the covers as he reaches for the stack of books.
He hears a quiet squeak and turns to see Manzanita covering Modesto's mouth. “Manz, let go of your brother.” Manz drops her hand reluctantly, and Modesto sticks his tongue out at her in retaliation. “Mode,” Rusty says firmly, and Modesto's cheeks turn pink as he sucks his tongue back in with an ashamed slurp. “Now, what did you want to say?”
“I just wanted to ask if you’d sing us a song first?” Modesto asks, twirling his sister Madera’s tail between his fingers. Madera doesn’t complain; she’s too busy licking a stray hair on her brother Ed’s head.
Manzanita huffs and shuffles further under the blanket, revealing just the tip of her nose and her little whiskers.
“Manz, what’s got you in a huff?” Rusty asks. He hears mumbling from beneath the blanket but can’t make out the words. “C’mon, kiddo, I can’t hear you.”
Mesquite, annoyed by her sister's behavior, rolls her eyes and yanks down the covers, exposing Manz. Surprised, Manz curls into a tight ball, tucking her legs and arms around her tail and burying her face in her brother Ed's back. Rosie, their velvet ant at the end of the bed, makes an annoyed, sharp squeak and twitches her antennae. Rusty soothes her with a gentle pat along her thorax before turning to Manz.
“C’mon, kid, it’s okay. Just tell me,” Rusty encourages, leaning forward to affectionately nibble at Manz's ear. The action has the desired effect; Manz uncurls with a giggle and playfully bats at Rusty's nose with her hands.
Rusty leans back, smiling, while Manz sighs dramatically and flops back against her pillow. “I always fall asleep when you sing, and I don’t want to miss the story.”
“I always fall asleep too,” Madera pipes up loudly, trying to smooth down a cowlick on Molino, who is doing everything he can to avoid her.
“Oh, I know you do, Dera, but you also don’t mind missing the story. Now keep your hands to yourself; you know Lino doesn’t like being groomed,” Rusty says, gently catching her hand and placing it back in her lap. “How about I read the story first, then I’ll sing a song? I’ll even use my guitar.”
This declaration catches everyone's attention. Ears perk up, noses twitch, and tails vibrate with excitement. Rusty laughs and finally opens the book in his lap. “Knew that would get all your attention. Alright, now where were we?”
