"Oh. Hey, Aeri." Skylar lifted up her head, regarding the medium. She hadn't exactly been in the best shape the last time she saw Aeri. And frankly...neither had Aeri for that matter. Sky still felt guilty about that. But she happened to like Aeri — it was good to see her again. "This is Mr. Pickles. I'm on elderly chihuahua duty today." She smirked, holding the little dog's paw and making him wave a small hello at Aeri. "Say hi, Mr. Pickles." Mr. Pickles let out a sneeze, accompanied by the biggest yawn. He was missing some teeth. But it was still a very good yawn. "What are you up to?"
For the last couple of days, Aeri had been living in her head. Thoughts speaking louder and making the journalist get lost in words she wasn’t saying, but was thinking. About Ender, about Kanda, about Kai… and that morning it was no different. Leaning against a wall, silence engulfed her as she played with an old coin her halmoni had given her between her fingers. Only when she heard Skylar’s voice was that Aeri was brought to the present. “Hi, Sky.” The brunette smiled, watching the interaction between the vet and the chihuahua. “Who’s your new friend?”

Sky watched Maren's reaction carefully, a hint of a smile touching her lips when her sister reached inside the box for the kitten. "Of course, Mare. That's kind of the surprise part of it." She giggled, her eyes softening at her sister. "She doesn't have a name yet. I figured you could do that part. Her mama cat rejected her, which can happen sometimes in a litter, unfortunately. She needs lots of loving. And I thought...well, you need lots of loving too. You two can take care of each other." She measured her sister's expression with a hesitance, her voice gentle for a change. "How's that sound?"
the kitten was staring up at her. its eyes were wide and unblinking , trying to decipher the situation unfolding. maren reached a hand down in the small box, ignoring the nipping of teeth and scared hissing. it was so small it fit in the hand of her palm. maren stared at her sister , eyes wide in disbelief. and fear. the thing in her hands was so little it almost felt as if she could strangle it if she held it too tight. black and whispy with more air than actual substance. a small meow vibrated against her skin. "is it—" maren cleared her throat with a small , broken sound. "is it mine ?"

Skylar was walking home after leaving work when she came across the medium. Now that was something the wolf hadn't seen in a long time. Portum was a little more on the safe side...generally speaking. Back home? Yeah, common occurrence. But here? Not so much. "Ha. That's what all the car thieves say, I bet." She gave the other a somewhat amused look as she took a drag of her lit cigarette. "Have you done this before? You're kind of terrible at it."
@fullmoonsky
"Oh come on!" she said as she yanked at her car door, it obviously locked with her car keys being locked in her apartment. "I can't believe this, I swear to god," she groaned before looking around and taking the pin out of her hair. "I swear I was going to stop doing this," she muttered to herself as she began to pick at her car lock before feeling a pair of eyes on her. "You're probably wondering what I'm doing but I swear this car is mine"

It's not your fault. Skylar shrugged her sister off, not wanting to focus on the heavy. She felt a lot of guilt when it came to Maren. What she could've done. What she should've done. What she still couldn't do for her. Emotional availability wasn't exactly Skylar's strong suit. But this? This she could do. Even as a kid, Sky had gone out of her way to rescue four legged friends. She had been especially acquainted with the duck pond near their house growing up. She wondered if Maren remembered that. "What do you think it is, mare-bear?" She smirked, giving her sister a knowing look. "The cow goes moo. What goes meow?"
maren couldn't help but giggle , hearing the petulant tone of her older sister's voice. it had always sounded like that when she didn't immediately get her way and it felt nice to know that that hadn't changed. "i can't help that we have heightened senses, sky !" skylar entered the trailer ( such a different vibe from last time ) and maren curiously looked at the box. the tone shifted slightly and maren ducked her head as she tried to process what skylar was saying. "it's not your fault , skylar ," she mumbled , "i think i can pretend … just for a little bit." there was a beat of silence as maren slowly opened the top , then the tiniest little meow trailed through the trailer. maren looked at her sister with wide eyes. "what— skylar , what is this ?"

The thing about wolfing out, was that Skylar had always prided herself on how well she could control her wolf. She was good at being a wolf. Not that her father had ever noticed. Past the shifting pains and the nightmare that was the monthly full moon, midnight runs and hunts made her feel good. She wasn't so great at being a human. But being a wolf? Sometimes she felt like she was born for it. These days however, she was starting to feel like she wasn't good at either.
She was losing control more often. She was more emotional these days. So to shift in the middle of the day, against her own will — well, this wasn't very good for her self confidence. She ran out the back of Laon's house and into the woods as far out as her bare feet would carry her before stumbling and rolling down an incline of rocks and dirt that led to a stream of water below. By the time she had reached the bottom, she was in full wolf attire.
The russet colored wolf huffed and whined through her nose, curling in on herself by the stream. She wasn't hurt beyond a few cuts and scrapes she would feel in the morning. But she couldn't change back either. That feeling sucked. At least she still had her mind. That was something the full moon often couldn't afford her.
it didn't take much for the werewolf to have laon surrender like this, to give control to skylar, have her the way she would like, immediately there was comfort, and trust that she knew she would not break, and it has given her such bliss, as if her skin was being set aflame with ever touch and kiss she'd leave along her skin. the banshee suddenly lost the ability to form a thought, except the name of the woman who had crumble laon's defenses down without much effort.
hips arch up at every kiss she leaves, fingers tangled in her hair whilst she struggles to keep her legs apart, making space for skylar, careful enough not to hurt her, and as she was able to really get deeply lost into it, skylar pulls away, which makes laon sit up. "sky, what—" and before she knew it, the werewolf was running out, which made her scramble into grabbing her shirt and pair of shorts, running after the werewolf, still bare feet.
"s-skylar!" she runs out of her door, following after the werewolf, not a care in the world for her safety, on what this may be, she only cares if skylar is okay.

After leaving her bag unattended at the bar, Skylar noticed something missing when she returned. Something very important. Something that was going to make or break her evening. Something she had been looking forward to all day. "Listen well and listen good. Because I'm only gonna ask you this once. And maybe a few times after that if I feel like it. Did you or did you not eat the chicken wing I left in my purse? I'm not mad, I just want to know." The wolf leaned in close and resisted the urge to sniff their breath. But she would if it came down to it.

"Why's there gotta be something wrong for me to eat an entire family sized tub of Neapolitan ice cream by myself? Did you ever stop to think that maybe for once, that means there's something actually right with the world? That maybe this is celebration ice cream and not my life is falling apart ice cream? It's summer. Since when is it a crime to have a sweet treat? And so what if I cut my own bangs two hours ago and dyed my tips pink? I happen to think I look very cute. What? You don't think it's cute? Why are you looking at me like that? Stop looking at me like that!"

Skylar leaned down and pulled an elderly chihuahua out of her bag. "Hiiiii, baby." She cooed, baby voice and all. "Look at you and your perfect little spots. Yes, you are so perfect and have never done anything wrong in your whole entire life, isn't that right sweet baby?" She paused. Sniffed. "Did you just fucking piss in my bag you little shite?" Another pause. A deep breath. She brought the chihuahua up to eye level and spoke to him again before planting a kiss on the top of his head. "That's alright sweet baby. I too would pee wherever I wanted if I was bag sized. Yes, I would. Sweet baby."

Skylar pulled her hand away from her sister's, shifting on her feet as she debated what she should do. Deflecting and attacking seemed like a good option. It was her go-to move, usually. But not with her older sister. Eliana had a habit of seeing right through her. Something that was jarring to someone like Skylar, who spent a long time building this very big wall around herself. Her arms crossed over her chest instead, eyes darting towards the door like she might make a run for it. Another fine option. "Fine. But I'm not doing this here." She turned on her heels to make her way out the door, expecting Ellie to follow.
Down the front steps, Sky made a b-line for the car and sat herself in the driver's seat. Her hands wrapped around the wheel, knuckles going white like she was considering driving away and leaving her sister behind. But she didn't. She didn't even turn on the car. She just waited for her sister to get into the passenger seat and stared straight ahead. "Don't be mad." Her words were slow. Deliberate and controlled. She was anything but. She'd never said the words out loud before. And she didn't know where to start.
ellie watched skylar carefully, perhaps too carefully. not with suspicion, butwith that quiet, stubborn kind of love that older sisters are notorious for. the kind that sees past every shrug and too-easy smile. the way skylar looked away, the tension in her shoulders, the way her hands curled into fits. ellie knew what it looked like when someone was trying to carry something alone. she exhaled slowly and stepped closer, toeing the line between gentle and firm. "i know you can," ellie said quietly. "and i know you want to, but sky. i mean, money doesn't just fall from the sky. not money like this. and i can't pretend i don't see that something about it's eating at you." she glanced around at the little house that somehow already smelled like home and then looked back at her sister. she tried to see not just as the baby she used to carry on her hip, but as someone who had lived a life that she knew nothing about. "i love that you want to do this for us, but if you're carrying something dark to make this happen, i need to know." ellie reached out and grabbed skylar's hand, squeezing it gently. "i'd rather sleep in a tent with you than live in a house built on something that's bleeding you dry."

Skylar's expression grew serious as Laon yet again encouraged the wolf to take what was hers. All hint of teasing gone, she could feel her hunger for the banshee grow. It wasn't so long since they had been in bed together. But this...this felt different. She was different. Sky had never wanted someone this badly. "Let me take the aching away, then." Sky breathed, fervently returning the kiss with a certain neediness. Her fingers dig into the skin at Laon's hips as they lay kissing, somewhat tangled up in each other — and Laon's sheets.
Her kisses made their way downwards, along Laon's jaw and back into the crook of her neck where her scent was strongest. Sky could feel the heat rising in her body as her lips made her way to their desired destination, hotter and hotter until she could hardly bare it at all. She stopped at Laon's belly button, clasping a hand over her own mouth and letting out a small sound of pain. Her eyes met Laon's for just a moment. Her usual hazel colored eyes glowing a bold gold and orange color now. She rolled off of Laon suddenly, hitting the floor with a thud. She could feel her canines extend in her mouth
Here? She was going to turn here? "Oh, fuck!" She growled, pain shooting up her spine in an all too familiar way. It couldn't be a full moon. Could it? She'd just had a full moon! What had it been? Two weeks? And it was barely the middle of the day! Skylar scrambled to her feet and darted out the door without giving Laon a second glance, her feet taking her out the back door in a rush to get away from Laon. The wolf was taking over and it wasn't going to be pretty.
all laon's body and mind wanted to do is surrender, and surrender she did with skylar's touch, legs wrapped around her waist, as if there was still distance between them, a pull the banshee finds herself succumbing to. skylar was that, such strong feeling that she's never felt before, and it should scare her, but for the first time in her life, instead of running away, she finds herself crawling towards it, welcoming it, embracing it.
for the first time in her life, fear wasn't in her mind, it was just...yearning, craving, wanting, needing skylar. "i only tell the truth, sky..." she murmurs, and before she knew it, she was being carried towards the direction of her room. she squealed at the sudden action, wrapping her arms and legs around the werewolf. any last words? "take what's yours, skylar....please..." she bites her lip, body already trembling with so much want whilst she quickly sits up to take off the shirt she was wearing.
she pulls her close for a kiss, warmth spreading all over her as she once more had her legs around skylar's waist, afraid that she was going to disappear at any moment in time. fingers tangled along her hair, laon whispers against her lips, "you don't fucking know the things you do to me, sky..." she murmurs. "i—i ache for you in all ways possible." the words slip from the banshee's lips without any hesitation.

"No sniffing, that's cheating." She squished her nose up at her sister as she walked through the open door, smiling once she was inside. She set the box down beside Maren and sat at the foot of the bed, nudging it towards her. "It's your surprise, silly." She kept a hand over the box and gave her sister a hesitant look. "I know it's not your birthday or anything, Mare. But I would really appreciate it if we could pretend for a little bit. I've missed a lot of birthdays." Something like guilt passed over Skylar's expression. But the look was gone just as quickly as it came, an excited smile spreading itself across her face instead. She pulled her hand back, both hands landing in her lap now. "Alright, go on an open it then!"
maren had barely gotten home before the angry roar of skylar's car appeared in front of her trailer. she felt an odd sense of anticipation , mostly because skylar's excitement seemed genuine. she had clearly planned something that she was convinced maren would love , and it made maren giddy to think that she was getting a surprise from her sister. for a moment she mourned the loss of their relationship , a tether that was severed because of a mistake she'd made. but maren pushed it aside as she saw sky's wide smile. she was carrying a box under her arm and maren sniffed curiously and her heart started beating faster when she recognised it as something familiar. "okay , come in." she hurried to open the door and urged skylar to get inside. "w-what do you have in the box ?" she asked , legs curled up under her as she sat down on her bed.

"Maybe. Maybe not." She said with a shrug, glancing towards her fire. It was dying out now. She probably could have done with some more of that lighter fluid. But she let it start to die anyway, the wolf sitting on the grass with her legs crossed as she looked up at Xavier. "I'm just burning the evidence." That wasn't so far from the truth, really. The truth was a lot more heavy than that. But Skylar hardly wanted to think about that. "Well, Xavier. I think you're in the right place for fresh blood. Portum is full of chatterboxes. It's kind of hard to be left alone around here, I think. Very small-town." She said, sounding a bit like she resented the fact. She didn't. Not really. She just didn't have the best luck when it came to people. And that was putting it nicely.
he arches a brow up at her with the slightest bit up an amusing look on his face. “and your ex did things to make you want to burn everything, huh? maybe you’re more of the pyro than me, i just had what was needed for it.” he says, matching her teasing tone as he glances down at the box. he had something like that but with mementos from montana back in his mansion however he would never bring it out for the world to see during broad daylight. he understands though the need to get rid of the past. he isn’t sure why he is still holding onto his own box to be quite honest. his life in montana has long since been forgotten to be quite honest. he was no longer the country rancher that he used to be. “well, my name is xavier for one. for two, i have had the same two people in my life consistently for like ever, so it’s kind of nice to meet fresh blood every once in a while.”

"Deal." Skylar gave her sister a self assured nod. She practically bounced right out of Rosie's, flashing her sister another knowing grin before running back to her car. She really was very good at keeping secrets. But surprises were a different kind of secret. Especially a surprise like this one. She could hardly contain herself. It wasn't long before she was meeting Maren at her place however, her mustard colored range rover pulling up in front of her sister's trailer.
She'd only arrived a few minutes after her sister — Skylar was way too excited to drag her feet on this one. She peeked into the cardboard box in her passenger's seat for a moment to assure Maren's surprise was safe. "Hey, Sis." Sky beamed once outside with cardboard box in tow. "I think...it's best we open this one inside. If that's okay with you?" She smiled at her sister.
skylar's enthusiasm always frightened maren a bit. it was just so big and wide and mostly lead to maren feeling confused and overwhelmed. but this seemed different. softer , in a way. it was undeniable and maren felt herself get swept away with in the excitement , smiling fondly as her sister bounced up and down. "a surprise ?" that sounded both terrifying and thrilling at the same time. she took a deep breath and nodded quietly , liking how bright her sister looked. "we'll meet at my place. o-outside ?" it still felt dangerous to set boundaries like this. but it was getting easier each time she did it. "i'll clock out and we'll meet. and i'll get ... my surprise." a surprise sounded exciting. maren barely remembered anything from the last fifteen minutes of her shift , only thinking about getting home and meeting skylar.

"Wally, Wally, hot tamale." She leaned across the bar and booped his nose with an outstretched finger. She was a little drunk, maybe. Okay. A lotta drunk. Not drunk enough to be a problem. But drunk enough to pretend to forget all her problems, she supposed. "If I stopped partying every time my life was in shambles, I'd never have any time for partying. Now, would I?" She teased. "So am I okay? Absolutely not. But life goes on." She takes a sip of her vodka tonic and sits at the bar now, wiping the sweat off her brow after having been on the dance floor. "What's your deal anyway? You look terrible. That's very unlike you, Wally."
even though he hated being at work right now, there was something magical about skylar finch that made the head pounding pain all the more bearable. wally had known skylar since he started working here and the werewolf immediately skyrocketed into being his favorite customer. something was just so fresh about the way skylar carried herself. something so effortless and confident that just drew wally to her vibe. "girl, are you okay?" he said with a smile, pouring her a drink on the house, "you're out here partying while the powers are on the fritz, what's your damage?"

They gave a friendly nod at her introduction. Zamir wondered at which part she meant — the newness. He supposed it was all relative. He'd been on this plane for just over a decade now. There was still a lot to learn, and even more to adjust to. But the half demon was a good study. He had a pretty good grasp on how the human mind worked. But when it came to fictional works...he was less experienced. Zamir's analytical mind drew him to more factual based texts. He was just trying to step out of his comfort zone now.
"Ah...a bit, yeah. I'm perhaps too left brained for my own good. But a little bit of creativity is good for the soul." He paused. "Though...whether or not I have one is up for debate." He chuckled. "If you have any recommendations, I would be happy to hear them. Apparently, I need all the help I can get."
hansa had to remind herself that even though she wouldn't call her life normal, it was one better acclimated to humans than some. but she's happy to be a quick study of horror books. that probably wouldn't be the top genre for someone who spent years alone on the road, but again, none of them were really normal. ❝ i definitely recommend it. i can even recommend a few more, if you want. ❞ she was happy to talk all things spooky and creepy. even more so to help shake someone up a bit. used to a life never knowing where she'd go next, she liked stepping out of her own comfort zone for an experience — good or bad. if whatever portum was going through didn't mean possible danger to those she cared about, it'd be way more fun. like living in her own little horror film. ❝ hansa, ❞ she says with a nod. ❝ i take it this is all kind of new to you? ❞ which she was curious about, not knowing any demons before portum, and still hardly knew any now.
