It's very weird how despite the fact that the current conversation revolves around a legal case/legislation, most people involved in it genuinely seem to miss the law part in copyright law. If you get sued by Disney talking about the beauty of the human soul and artistic expression won't help you. If a company steals your work and uses it in a project there is nothing you can do unless you have money for lawyers, even if in that scenario copyright would technically be in your favour. Like, when you defend the tightening of copyright law you are ultimatelly arguing for the right of companies to bankrupt "small artists" in court cases, no matter who is in the right.

(And that's not even getting into the fact that most artists work for companies and don't own any of the work they make, but whatever)

The weirdass glorification of any variation of The Indomitable Human Spirit™ (but Secular™) in response to the advent of the generative AI industry got people thinking and saying some absolutely ridiculous, incoherent shit that falls apart under the tiniest amount of scrutiny.

Like this comment I just saw on someone else's post that boils down to "the reason why profitting from making art of someone else's intellectual property without their permission is stealing when an AI does it but not when fanartists do it is because AI art has no human involvement"

like sorry bestie what??? there is not a single legal framework under which asserting that a situation involved a "thinking human being" making the decisions makes it Less of a crime instead of More of a crime. This is like a trivial fact to point out about how the law works. But of course that doesn't matter because "human involvement" here is clearly being used as shorthand for The Beauty of the Human Soul™, which these people seem to apparently believe makes any action immune to any ethical or legal objection as long as it's being used as a counterpoint to Soulless AI™

Music addiction is real. Almost every single day, I spend at least an hour just listening to music. The same songs over and over again, just to feel something, that rush of dopamine. As I get further addicted, soon enough the beetles aren't enough. Whitney Houston isn't enough. Not even fucking ELO is enough.

I listen to more and more depraved tunes, just to get my fix. Ive listened to many bad songs. Some that I will never be able to confess. (Anime opening) And it makes me fucking angry that this has become normalized in our culture. If you're a song-rotten "musicmaxxer" please join my subreddit "song free"

Forget Streaming, Retvrn to Winamp

I hear some of you are getting a little tired of the streaming service gauntlet! Did you know you can play mp3s with Winamp 5.6x, a very old program that plays songs perfectly fine from your PC, where your songs should be? (Newer versions add bullshit, you can decide whether you want that, but you don't.)

Did you know I made several really fucking good Utena Winamp skins? That aren't even on the website anymore because I broke the Multimedia section trying to make it easier to update in 2009? They might even be older than you, dear reader. I show my work hunting through my own website for shit I just forgot was there in a thread on Something Eternal, but if you just want the sauce:

Pictured in the order I made them, the first four are AT LEAST as old as April 2002. The last three were made in 2006 and 2007. All of them are in this 2mb ZIP, a comically small file for content I spent a small fortune hosting back when 2mb was a fucking massive amount of data, lmaaaao.
