Positano 🇮🇹
Let me start with the good. Positano is definitely one of those places you want to see at least once in your life. The views are just incredible and all the small and winding stairs are a challenge but part of what makes the Almafi coast so beautiful. We had a delicious lunch overlooking the beach where I actually ordered mussels for the first time! I was surprised at how much I actually liked them and will definitely be ordering them again. We swam in the ocean and admired the hill top homes and shops.
Now for the not so good. Once we arrived in Sorrento, we had to take a bus to Positano. The bus was your standard tour guide size bus, however the amount of people who got off the train meant that the first bus was immediately completely full. With a bus coming only every 30 minutes, we hoped to be on the next one which thankfully, we were (one of the last 8 people to get on!). We had hoped that was the end of the anxiety of transportation but it was only the beginning. We were about a 2 hour train ride back to Naples once we were in Sorrento so we decided to leave Positano around 5. We got to the bus stop and were happy to see that not too many people were waiting. The bus came… and then kept going. He signalled “next one” so we hoped it would come soon. More people joined the line. About 30 minutes later, the next one arrived only to also be full. Two people managed to sardine their way in, which they were able to do because the doors stopped in front of them. At this point, we learned that there were two stops before our stop and the likelihood that every bus would be full, possibly only squeezing in one or two more people, was very high. The anxiety kicked in. More people arrived. We asked a cab driver how much to get back to Sorrento… 100€ 😫 after waiting another 20 minutes we saw another couple approach the cab driver, hear the fare and walked away. Max ran over to them and asked if they wanted to split a cab which thankfully they were on board for. They were another Canadian couple like us so we had an enjoyable cab ride back getting to know one another. Knowing what I know now, we would have stayed a couple nights in the Almaty coast and either rented a car or prepared to pay the cab. I’m glad we had the experience of seeing the coast but man was I glad to get back to Naples!

First night in Naples and you KNOW we had to try to famous Pizzeria da Michele! This place is where Julia Roberts famously ate in Eat, Pray, Love. We lined up to place our order, two margarita pizzas. They took my name (spelt wrong) and we proceeded to wait for our order to be called. Waiting in the queue with everyone else was part of the experience. We bought some beer and had a drink while we waited. We saw people immediately eating their pizza on the side of the street but we decided to take ours to go and enjoy a glass of wine on our patio. Honestly can say that this is the best pizza I have ever had. So simple and so delicious and they were 5€ each! A must try if you ever find yourself in Naples.

Happy birthday Carolann!! 🥳
Day two in Poros was spent doing something I’ve always wanted to do, chartering a boat to take us on a tour of the island and to do some snorkelling. The water was crystal clear for 7 meters deep and we swam with some school of fish, no luck spotting any octopus though. Our boat driver, Periklis was a fantastic person. He was so knowledgeable about the area, super friendly and accommodating and overall just a gentleman! Typically he only offered tours to his guests, but because he knew our host, he agreed to take us before closing up for the season. He and his wife leave for a trip to Israel in a few days we are forever grateful he took us out! We sailed a bit more before some menacing clouds and winds came in and we had to return to land. Because we were a bit short on time, Periklis invited us up to his home where we could see his airbnbs. The hike was pretty steep but the views were amazing. He shared some delicious Greek wine with us before we hit the road back to our Airbnb. Periklis had made some recommendations to us about where to eat in Poros and so we headed to Apagio where we had our best meal on vacation yet. Max and Ben had the lamb shank, Carolann had an octopus and both Carolann and I each got our own ceviche. It was SO good that we will try and go back at least one more time.
