Lenore raised one eyebrow to convey how unimpressed she was with this speech. “I may be a lady, but do not underestimate me. I am a Baratheon, through and through, with just as much fury as any of my brothers.”

@mercuryofsnow-- Mercury Snow
In the days since all of her brothers had left Storm’s End for their various other positions in life, Lenore had taken to exploring the land that surrounded her family’s home. of course, she had explored as a child, but she had always been chased after and scolded by the Septa; now she was a woman grown, and there was no one to stop her from doing as she pleased. Plus, as a child she had been afraid of some things that no longer frightened her, and knowledgeable about some of the things she had not been previously. The walks were also good exercise, and a way for her to cure the boredom and loneliness she felt at being the only family member at home.
However, never in her walks had she encountered an actual man, and an injured one at that. Lenore was by no means a Maester, but she knew that she had to get this man to one as soon as possible. She was not a muscular woman either, but when a Baratheon put their mind to something, they did not budge until the goal was met. She let the man lean mostly on her torso, one of his arms slung around her shoulder, while she half dragged, half carried him back toward the castle.
Her limbs were beginning to scream as someone else ran forward to meet her, and she passed the unknown man off to one of the guardsmen. “Take him to the maester,” she ordered. “And tell him I wish to be notified when he wakes.”

thestormlioness:
“Neither does anyone have a reason to accuse my mother.”, Relena hissed through teeth that were tightly bitten together. “We are talking about her own brother! What kind of person would do something like this!”, she insisted angrily. Yes, Jaime and Cersei were close, but they were sibling, they grew up together, and the young stag was certain that there were nothing but the normal feelings a sister had for her brother. “He would.”, Relena replied trough gritted teeth. “If he was absolutely certain that he wants to be king, because this is all it is, isn’t it? The reasons these rumours exists, because others want to take what is rightfully my brother’s.”
For a brief moment the girl looked at her aunt hair, before pulling back her head, trying to get it out of Lenore’s reach. “That is his proof?”, she questioned with a high-pitched voice. “The fact that my sibling don’t have dark hair? This is utter nonsense.”, Relena insisted. “Just because there has never been, it doesn’t mean there can’t be!”
Slowly the princess’ head began shaking, a few strands of dark hair falling over her shoulder as a scoffing laugh. “So he is trying to claim the throne through me? And of what excuse will he think when I come of age? Will he then claim that a woman cannot rule? Or will he get rid of me before I grow that old? After all I am known to be quite sickly, it would be easy to make the people believe.”, she questioned, her eyes narrowing slightly while words left her lips. She was certain that this wasn’t about Joffrey’s lack of a claim to the throne, but rather the fact that any claim Stannis made would be null and void while her brother are still alive, unless of course they were believed to be illegitimate.
Tumblr media
Lenore was starting to get frustrated with her niece, but she willed herself patience, saying a silent prayer to the seven. This was a bitter pill to swallow. She herself would not have reacted well if someone had come to tell her that her brothers were not who she thought they were. She would have wanted to cling to what she had known all along, just as Relena was doing.
"Child, Stannis is content with Dragonstone, and he has been for years. I know my brother, and he is not power-hungry. He would not seek the throne for the throne itself. But what he cannot abide is wrongdoing. He cannot sit idly by while incest rules in his brother's place. He wants what is best for the kingdom, and Joffrey is not that." She sighed, feeling a twinge of furious anger toward Cersei Lannister, the woman who had twisted her brother's legacy so, and who had such a hold over her niece. "Relena, do years of records lie?" She asked, holding the girl's gaze. "Do historians have a reason to lie? What good are false records? The proof is there."
She was silent a moment wondering how she could really make Relena understand. "Would you believe is more if you heard it from Lord Stark's hand and not Stannis'? He was your father's most trusted confidant, perhaps closer than Renly, Stannis, or I ever were. You yourself trust him, do you not?" Lenore wished she had not spoken of Stannis taking Relena's throne. It was a messy situation, difficult waters to navigate for certain. But it was necessary, until she came of age. Lenore loved her brother, and she would support him, but she would never condone wrongdoing, even done by someone she loved.
"I would not allow such a thing to happen to you," the brunette replied. "If you wish me to, I would stay with you. I do not think Stannis would be capable of harming you. He knows you to be true born. His grievance is not with you. And if he does attempt to deter you from your rightful claim, I will side with you." She found herself owning the truth in her statement as she spoke, even though it would be a hard choice to make if it came to it, but Lenore wanted the same thing Stannis wanted- Justice.

chevalier-de-fleurs:
“I’m sorry to hear that, my lady.” He smiled, before trying to steer the conversation in a slightly lighter direction. “By the way, how is Storm’s End these days? I’ve been away for so long, I’m actually starting to miss it.” Sometimes he was surprised by how true that was, especially considering how much he had hated his earlier days there. But in the end, he had felt at home there, so much so that he almost hadn’t wanted to leave.
“Me too,” Loras replied, still smiling. It was just then that he noticed the way she was looking at him, and he realised that she had noticed the state he was in. He sighed, and tried once again to fix his appearance. “Apologies for looking so dishevelled, my lady,” he said. He tried to think of something, some excuse that would explain why he looked like this- one that didn’t involve Renly. In the end, all that he managed was, “It’s been a long day.” That was certainly true, and he decided to leave it there.
When Renly spoke, Loras nodded, turning his attention to him for a moment. “That sounds like a good idea,” he said. Not for the first time, he wished he could just reach out and hold Renly’s hand. But they weren’t alone, so he couldn’t take that risk. He had to be sensible, not do or say anything which would give their secret away. Even if Lenore was Renly’s sister, they still couldn’t be too careful.
Lenore fondly remembered the days that she, Renly, and Loras had all been in Storm's Landing together. Robert and Stannis had already been gone to be wards for other houses, and of course, that was what Loras was doing at Storm's End in the first place. She had liked the young boy well enough, and though he had sometimes been hesitant to join in their shenanigans, he'd warmed up to them quickly. She was glad to see that he and Renly had maintained their friendship. Or . . . Possibly more than friendship?
"Oh, Storm's Landing is as it always had been," she replied. Though Loras had hardly known the castle when her parents had been alive, she thought back to the good days, before they had all been scattered and grown apart. "Resilient, and a little drafty. It's rain season now, and the cobblestones had not been dry for two weeks when I left to come here."
Lenore raised an eyebrow as she waited for Loras to come up with an excuse for why he looked a little out of sorts, and when he finished, she was convinced that there was something else going on. "I believe you, it is always busy here," she answered with a shrug. "You with your councils and appointments," she said to both Loras and her brother. "And me entertaining the little ones all day. They act as though they never have any fun unless I am here."

The threat of the reality of their situation weighted heavily on him. Any other lord would have surrounded the castle by now. Any other lord would have thought of the needs of his people. They were going to die a slow and painful death, but Stannis was not like any other lord. Orders where orders. Laws were laws, without them they would be no better than the beasts beyond the wall. His brother had commanded him to hold the castle no matter the cost and he will hold the castle no matter the cost.
“YOUR FAITH IN OUR BROTHER MAY SEE US THROUGH THIS…” Stannis commented his sister, she believed in Robert more than he did. He was just seeing the outcome of all of this if Robert died in battle, the dragons would not be kind, it would be death by wildfire for all of them. He closed his eyes and sighed, his hand reaching out and resting on her shoulder for a moment as he nodded, he would do his best to see the end of this war, no matter the cost.
NINE MONTHS LATER
They were starving. While the army outside their walls would hold massive feasts each night within distance of them, those within the walls only had the smell of the food they ate to comfort them. The pets, the horses, everything with four legs had been consumed. They had little food, whatever was left was being rationed at a rate that would barely be enough to make someone function. They were running low on supplies and hope. There had been no word on the war, but if the enemy army was still at their doors, it meant that Robert was still alive and still fighting.
Stannis had been firm. His commands would not be broken. No one was allowed to take more than they were given. No ravens where permitted to be sent, the enemy would shoot them down and take the information within for themselves. There was at least one breach in discipline, when the master-at-arms at Storm’s End, Ser Gawen Wylde, and three knights were caught trying to sneak out a postern gate to surrender the castle to the enemy – Stannis had them captured, flogged before those who remained alive and placed in chains in the courtyard – he had yet to make up his mind, their fate was still up for debate.
“I SHOULD CATAPULT THOSE COWARDS OVER THE WALL FOR WHAT THEY TRIED TO DO.”
There was a constant pain in Lenore's gut that never wen away. She was used to it now, in a way, and yet each time she thought of food it was like a new wound. When they'd first been faced with the siege months ago, she had had a lot of hope to hold out- that Robert would come for them, crushing the Tyrells outside their gate, or that Mace would give up when he saw Stannis' stony disposition and his unwillingness to budge. The Baratheon sister was doing all she could do to stay alive, and to keep Renly alive as well. She hated to see how skinny they all were, the gaunt and frightened faces of the people within Storm's End, under their protection.
But there was nothing to be done. Nothing that had not been done already. There was nothing left to eat. This would be the end of them soon. And still Mace Tyrell sat outside their wall and had feasts every night, it seemed, trying intentionally to drive them mad. But Stannis could not be deterred. Her brother had no weakness, and for that Lenore was grateful. She might have surrendered days ago, if their combined stubbornness was not driving them just as much as food once had.
She was sitting in a chair in the study, trying to hide just how exhausted she was. "Perhaps you ought to," she muttered in response. "Ser Gawen still has enough muscle to flatten a few Tyrell banner men as he falls." She thought daily of how they might punish the Tyrells, once they finally reached the end of this awful nightmare. She had never been a particularly violent girl, but now she fantasized about facing Mace Tyrell's head on a pike, and eating a leg of mutton while she stared his dead face down.

lordmonterysvelaryon:
Monterys nodded at Lenore’s words about the war lasting longer than expected. “That’s true- when Father first left to fight for the king, I thought he would be back in no time at all, with lots of stories to tell me about all his adventures…” How stupid he had been back then…
Tumblr media
Monterys considered. “It’s hard to say… King Stannis still has much to do, the Blackwater was quite a setback. But he will never give up, of course, and I am sure victory will come.”
"War always takes longer than we would like," Lenore replied. She herself had had such childlike hopes when Stannis left to claim the throne, that they might be finished before they truly experienced the depths of war. She thought of her brother, and how she should go to him, to remind him of his goals and encourage him. But Stannis would be in no mood to hear counsel from anyone but his Red Priestess after this.
"It is a loss, but you are right, my brother has never quit a task in his life. He would rather die in pursuit of victory than admit defeat. And that a Lannister still claims the throne is a mockery that only gives him more fuel for his fire." She faced the young boy, searching his face with her dark eyes. "Do you intend to go join the battle?"

bullheadedboy:
Gendry’s brows furrowed. “Apologize for his behavior?” It seemed too simple. It sounded as if he had simply been rude to his nephew. But no, Stannis had taken his blood, tried to burn him. “The war has been hard on more than just him,” he told her, hoping he didn’t sound angry although he knew his tone was curt. “Lowborns are starving and dying for a fight that is not even their own.”
“He told me little,” he admitted. “I know my father’s name.” Still a bastard. The words rang in his head. He was no better off than he had been before, worse maybe with all the people after his head. Though he supposed they were always after him, even when he didn’t know. He remembered Arya asking why they wanted him and responding he didn’t know. She hadn’t believed him at first. “I would appreciate it,” he answered finally, wearily. “Any amount of safety would be much appreciated.”
Tumblr media
Lenore could hear the frustration in the boy's voice. True, Stannis had tried to do something rather awful, something that she would never have expected from him, but he was nearly blinded by his pursuit for the throne, and once he got it, she was sure that he would be her reliable older brother once more. No man enjoyed the things that must be done for war. Instead of replying to his first comment, she gestured to the walls of Storm's End.
"Stannis knows what it is to suffer. We were once stuck in there, with barely any food stored, in a long siege. Hunger has the same effect on both highborn and lowborn men. He knows what his people go through, and he only wishes to end this war as soon as possible. The Lannisters should have relinquished their claim as soon as they made the mistake of striking Lord Stark's head from his shoulders." She saw the war behind his eyes, that he knew his father but not at all, and that he never would know Robert. She could tell him stories, but what good would they do him now?
"Come, it's not a far walk, and I can tell you are hungry and tired. Davos was right to send you here." She started walking toward home, for a brief moment imagining the boy as her own son, before thinking of foolish it was of her. "If you should ever wish to know more . . . About Robert, or the Baratheon line, I would be happy to tell you all I can."

“Do you think?” Shireen bit her lip. If he did miss her, he didn’t show it much. “What did grandfather do on the small council?” She asked curiously. Shireen didn’t know much about her grandfather, Steffon Baratheon, but enjoyed it when she got to hear about him, and her grandmother.
Tumblr media
“Oh, they’re going very well! Maester Cressen sent away to the Citadel for these special rare texts on the rainwood for us to study. They just arrived and we’re going to read them tomorrow.”
"Of course, dear one," Lenore answered immediately. Shireen was no perfect male heir, as most high lords wanted to have, but Stannis had made his peace with the fact that he would not get any more children from Selyse, and he loved Shireen the way any father loved his heir. "He hates to be away from you and your mother." She smiled briefly before telling the girl what stories she knew of her father's time on the council, how he had been tasked with finding the prince a suitable wife, before he had been taken by the sea. There wasn't a lot Lenore knew, but what she did, she would share.
She was grateful to turn to the subject of her niece's lessons, nodding thoughtfully. "You are the most dutiful reader in all the seven kingdoms, I would say," she said with a chuckle.

OOC: hi buddies, I have a quick activity notice for y’all. Weekends are my prime reply times, but this weekend I am going home to see my BEST FRIEND who moved away when she got married like six years ago and I haven’t seen her in person since, so I am literally so hype. Since I’m spending the whole weekend with her I won’t be online much the next three days. However, I will be on a bus for a total of 8 hours, and I’m going to bring my iPad and work on my drafts. I hate posting mobile replies, so I’m going to hoard my drafts and then post them when I get back on Sunday night and I can cut them and add gifs.
Ned: 34 drafts (some of which are those cute memory asks that you guys sent in- I haven;t forgotten them!!)
Trystane: 9 drafts
Lenore: 6 drafts
Now I just set my alarm for 4 AM (@_@) and I’m gonna go sleep. xoxo <3

“I’m alright. I always miss him a lot when he’s away in King’s Landing, but I understand. He has to do his duty and serve his brother and king,” Shireen replied solemnly, looking down at her toes.
Tumblr media
She had to do her duty too and be a good girl. Her place was on Dragonstone, so she had to stay here, and be strong and brave, and work hard at her lessons.
“Of course, my lady, I would be honoured.” Maester Cressen knew Shireen was welcoming her aunt to Dragonstone, and so was not yet expecting her for her lessons, which meant they had plenty of time.
Lenore put an affectionate hand on the girl’s head as she looked down at her feet. “He misses you while he is away too, sweetling,” she told Shireen. “I used to miss my father when he went to King’s Landing. Your grandfather was part of the King’s small council, and he was gone more often than not. Women like us learn to be strong for ourselves.”
She followed Shireen through the halls of Dragonstone, a castle that was still somewhat of a mystery to her. She did not mind Selyse’s absence. Lenore mostly came to see her niece, not her brother’s wife. The two had never got along well. “How are you progressing in your lessons?” she asked.

“His Grace can count on that, my lady.” Monterys would always be loyal, just like his father, and just like all the members of their house. The Old, the True, the Brave.
Tumblr media
“You’re not that old- I expect you have a good chance of living to see the end of the war.”
Monterys looked over at Lady Lenore and blinked. “I don’t mind talking to you…” He quite liked the king’s sister so far and hoped to get to know her better. She reminded him a little of Stannis, and a little of Shireen…
Lenore could not help but smile at the young boy. It was always good to have a fresh perspective on life, and if anyone could offer that to her, it was Monterys. “Thank you,” she replied. “Sometimes my thoughts escape me. This war had dragged on for far longer than any of us thought it would. Tell me, how much longer do you think it will wage on?” She still prayed for Stannis’ victory, but as time went on,  she did not know how likely it was to happen.

“Perhaps a little of both, I suppose. Though I’ve not seen or heard of the crowned prince being that of a warrior.”  Lyanna knew only what she had heard of him, that was mostly through whispers of the kingdoms and what her brothers spoke of but, him being much of a warrior was not one she had heard. Winter features fell abit at the mention of her the Baratheon’s brother and Lyanna’s promised but, she cleared her throat and forced a smile before lifting her goblet up and towards the tourney.
“I wouldn’t be in too much of a rush to have such a thing…Enjoy your freedom while you have it.” Deep browns came to look towards Lenore once more as she placed a hand upon her arm “Marriage and husbands aren’t all there is to life, there’s so much more to accomplish.”
Though Lenore had never been the type of girl to pine over boys and romanticize her future, she could not deny that she had desires to be loved and sought after. She did not want to be some demure little lady under a husband’s thumb- no, she had just as much of the Baratheon fury as any of her brothers- but was a husband who could appreciate that fire in her too much to ask for?
“Oh, I will still have freedom when I marry, I can promise you that. But Storm’s End is lonely, with Robert at the Vale and Stannis always away. It’s just myself and Renly. I’d rather have someone to . . . attend to me, if you know what I mean. Than be alone at home with my brother.”
“Speaking of brothers, are either of your here?”

This was the price of war. This was their duty as family. Robert was the head of their house, he was there leader, his commands had to be obeyed without question, Robert had commanded they hold the castle and so they will hold the castle no matter the cost. He would fold his arms, leaning against the wall as he stared outside at the vast army that was before them.
HE COULD DEFEAT THEM… BUT AT GREAT COST…
Mace Tyrell was many things, but a brave man was not one of them. From the banners the stag could tell that this was not his full force, his armies no doubt lead by his seasoned generals would be confronting Robert any day now, Stannis had the chance, he could take the force he had and cut right through them, but the cost would be high. Thousands would die in order to get to Mace Tyrell and his orders where his orders.
“You are far more brave than any of the men he has.” Stannis commented, he did not smile nor did he even laugh, but her fury rivalled her brothers, he pitied any man that dared cross her. “You are mistaken.” Stannis would comment once more, correcting his sister. Robert had numbers, that was true, but he was not stopping. He was not slowing down. He was not resting. He was carving through the lands without rest, he was losing men with every fight. Robert had yet to fight the crowns main army and no doubt the dragon prince would be mustering up a large force as the stags speak at this very moment.
“He has to keep winning no matter the cost.” The Lannisters had yet to enter the war, they where held up in there rock, no doubt waiting for the right moment to pick a side. Robert was getting closer and closer to the capital – how Stannis wished he could be with him right now to aide him.
“If something happens to me, it is your duty to protect Renly no matter the cost.” Stannis spoke coldly, the youngest of them all, he was nothing but a mere child, but he was the future of this house. If Robert and Stannis died in this war, Renly would need protection, he would need his sister to guide him.
“No matter the cost sister – do you understand.”
Stannis’ compliment did not go unnoticed by his sister, but neither of them were overly affectionate. Lenore merely nodded- she felt that she was every bit as formidable as her three brothers, and though she did not need their validation, sometimes it was nice to hear.
As he continued to speak, Lenore could hear the threat of reality in Stannis’ voice. Robert could not lose any of his battles- if he was to take the throne from the Targaryens, he could not take a large hit. Losing men was one thing, but if he was not careful, he would lose more than just that. And they both knew that careful was not a word they would use to describe their older brother. Stannis, it seemed, could contemplate the possibility of Robert failing, but Lenore could not. “He will,” she answered, her voice adamant. “He has to.” If Robert lost, even if they survived this siege, they would be traitors to the crown, and the Targaryen wrath was that of fire and blood.
Tumblr media
Lenore turned back to face her brother as his tone shifted. Once again, he spoke of possible realities that Lenore would rather not have to face. If anything happened to Stannis . . . Lenore bit her lip, saying nothing, until Stannis was waiting for an answer from her. “Yes,” she answered. “I will make sure of it. But . . .” She knew that Stannis would make her no promises, and yet she did not hold her tongue. “Do all you can to see the end of this war. Please.”

thestormlioness:
Relena’s head tilted slightly when her aunt showed her that she had received a letter and frown appeared on her forehead once she tossed it into one of her trunks. “For someone who claims to be clear of mind you sound more than just a bit strange.”, the young stag pointed out. Nothing that reached her ears made the slightest bit of sense.
Relena’s shoulders sunk a little when she finally heard something, that still didn’t make much sense to her, but at least was something she could understand the meaning of. “Yes.”, she said, unable to stop herself from letting out a sigh. “And there are plenty of other children that look more their mother than their father. Lady Sansa for example, she looks nothing like her father, but no one would ever accuse Lady Catelyn of such a horrendous crime.”, while she spoke, her hand raved towards the hall from where she had just entered Lenore’s chamber. “And there are many more people that look more like one of their parents than the other.”,  the raven haired lady pointed out, anger growing within her voice.
“These are just stupid rumours from stupid people that have no idea what they are talking about!”, Relena hissed, a pale hand reaching for the letter her aunt had just thrown on top her other things. “Now what? Is Stannis going to claim the throne with this piece of parchment?”
Tumblr media
“No one has any reason to accuse Lady Stark of such a thing. It would be a baseless charge,” Lenore replied. “Speaking of the Starks, Stannis would not pass along this information if he was not absolutely certain of its truth. The proof comes from Lord Stark himself. Your father trusted him more than anyone, and Lord Stark has been nothing but loyal to Robert. Stannis has no reason to mistrust his communication.”
This was too much for Lenore to deal with. The grief over her brother’s death, the betrayal she felt rip through her at the thought of those golden haired children she had called her niece and nephews, and now Relena’s disbelief. If she owed anyone truth, it was this girl.
Lenore reached out to softly touch a strand of the girl’s dark hair. Her other hand did a similar motion with her own hair. “The Baratheon seed is strong,” she said, willing Relena to understand. “All trueborn Baratheon children have to same dark hair as you and I. Robert, Renly, and Stannis have it. Shireen has it. Your grandparents. There has never been a blonde Baratheon, child.”
Tumblr media
Sighing, she thought of her brother. “Yes, Stannis is seeking to claim the throne until you come of age. Or, if you do not wish to be Queen, you can sign your rights to him. But we cannot allow Joffrey to sit on the throne. He has no claim to it.”
