I understand that not all the Zodiac spirits are reincarnated during the same life span as one another. But does that mean that there are scenarios where the God spirit is reincarnated and there are no zodiac spirits alive? Can a zodiac animal go its whole life without ever meeting God’s reincarnation!
From what we’re told in the series, theoretically, yes. But we are never given any information one way or the other about past incarnations of the Zodiacs or God.
The only past incarnation we learn about is Kazuma’s grandfather, the previous Cat. We can somewhat guestimate his timeline based on information from the series - Kazuma is in his 40s during the current timeline of the series, and when he meets his grandfather at a young age (we’ll say around 10), he’s already quite old. If he died not long after Kazuma met him, then the previous Cat would have passed away somewhere around the late 1960s-early 70s.*
Shigure, Hatori, and Ayame were born sometime about the early 70s, but we’re never given any indication that other Zodiacs were still alive when they were born and we know there wasn’t an incarnation of God when they were alive until Akito was born. So it’s entirely possible they were a “fresh” group of reincarnated Zodiacs, born not long after the last living cursed Sohma - the Cat - died. Thematically, this tracks nicely, with their generation being the “final banquet”. But we still don’t know if the last Cat knew other Zodiacs or God at some point during his lifetime, although if it was before Kazuma was born, the last living Zodiacs would have been on their deathbeds around the 1950s! And Akira, the last head of the family who was not God, was probably born sometime in the 50s, given what we know about him dying at a very young age. We know there had not have been a Head of the Family who was God for quite a while before Akito, likely including Akira’s parents ... which means there may not have been a God born into the family since around the early 1900s ... My head is spinning, anon! Even though we’re given very little information, it is really fascinating to think about.
*this is going by the manga timeline where the story takes place in the late 90s-early 2000s

everyone keeps talking about how good haru is for isuzu (and he really, really is) but can we talk about how good isuzu is for him, too?
i think it’s safe to think isuzu was one of the first people to recognize haru as an individual. as someone smart, strong and not at all dumb or weak. isuzu knows how smart haru is because she sees how he takes care of everyone, keeping track of their situations and reaching out while looking for solutions. haru lashed out at her parents in the hospital as seen in the last episode without any hesitation. they played together when they were younger like equals, and while he also did this with others i don’t think isuzu has ever made a comment on haru’s “traits” as the ox. instead, we see her regarding him as someone unique and original, not as a bad thing but as a praise. (the comment about his hair, about his desition to pierce his ears) the things that haru had to bear as negative were finally being highlighted by someone as great qualities that made him who he was. not only that, but he learns that these things that make him him, also make him loved.
we see him coming to “rescue” isuzu every time she feels down, but i don’t think it was only to help her. i think haru enjoyed being with her as much as he wanted to help her. isuzu is as comforting for haru as haru is for isuzu. he needs her as much as she needs him.
so there! just wanted to shine some light on the role isuzu plays in the relationship because i never see people talking about it! join my isuzu fan club for more :-)

PEOPLE !!!!
THIS LINE IN THE EP:

SHIGURE DOES NOT SAY THAT. HE DOESN'T. THESE SUBTITLES ARE WRONG. HE SAYS SOMETHING MORE LIKE "IF ONLY AKITO COULD UNDERSTAND" !! SHIGURE DOESN'T SAY "AKITO SHOULD TEACH THEM A LESSON". THE SUBTITLES ARE WRONG. I beg you to not think Shigure is evil LMAO

You know what I don't think is really touched upon by fans is that before Yuki, she doesn't even REALISE she has a favourite colour. She picked the ribbon just... just because she picked it out right? But no, she picked a red ribbon and a yellow background because it's what she thought would look best. Yuki had to help her realise that.
She didn't realise she loved Mogeta until Yuki recognised how much she loved Ayame's toy and decided to buy her a paperweight. Maybe she just read the manga sometimes and looked at the online boards, but she doesn't have the ability to recognise that it's a hobby.
Machi is just existing, she's been told she's dull and she believes it because nobody has ever taken the time to get to know her. She's never been given the opportunity to be ALLOWED an opinion so she can't recognise those thoughts in herself.
And that is SUCH a depression mood. It become so, so, SO difficult to admit that you are allowed joy. That you have value and an opinion that matters to others. The things that bring you joy become harder and harder to recognise as she just go about the motions of living day to day.
Yuki isn't even being conscious of what he is doing per say. He just recognises a kindred spirit in Machi, and WANTS to get to know her and do nice things for her. It's such a basic thing, but when you are living in a dark room... the smallest things mean the world.
It comes down to one of the biggest themes in Fruits Basket: Just because you cannot recognise you own positive traits, just because you cannot see your own worth does not mean it is not there. Other people can see it, other people will recognise it and love you for it, you just have to have the courage to listen to them. And slowly, ever so slowly, you will begin to believe them, and start to see those things for yourself.

Takaya-sensei (on Twitter today) : “Oh, about the picture that is sticking out from between the pages of the book on the back cover of Fruits Basket Another Volume 3, since Hajime has such a strong bond with his father*, he was given this picture of his birth at some point in time. The impression is that he will quietly and discreetly hold on to it forever.”
Translation Note: The term used can also be translated as “daddy’s boy.” But I felt it didn’t fit the tone right. In the following tweet, Takaya-sensei mentions how Hajime is also a grandpa’s boy / he has a strong bond with his grandfather as well. (Grandfather here meaning Kazuma, of course).
Thoughts: So yeah, I figured that was a picture of Kyo with Hajime (since Kyo still looks really young in the picture). But, it’s nice to know for a fact that it is. It’s also a confirmation that that picture was likely taken not long after Hajime was born. This makes sense. It looks like Hajime was born with a darker peach fuzz hair that probably fell out and came in more orange as he got older.

Yall…Yall ever think about how Kazuma made it perfectly clear multiple times in the series that Kyo was not going to go into imprisonment after graduation? Like, from nearly physically fighting his father, to all the suggestions he says to Tohru, to the way Tohru can tell he’s not gonna let it happen?
Like, the scene where Kyo tells her about how Kazuma shot off some fireworks with him, and Tohru’s all like “he wouldn’t if he knew this guy was gonna just be locked away forever.”
So like…I kinda need to know…what was Kazuma’s plan to stop this from happening? Obviously there was one. And being how he’s so polite and kind…I can totally see him losing his shit and absolutely wrecking Akito for even trying. I’m imaging busting down doors, some limbs broken, ripping through the Sohma place like it’s nothing. And then just like, taking Kyo back? Idk. I would have literally loved to see it, ngl.
#i KNOW#he would have taken kyo away from it all i’m sure#which wouldn’t have been good or stable#but it would have been a life#kazuma#fruits basket spoilers#technically?

I wonder how Yuki and Machi go about their relationship at school after they get together. We obviously see some moments of them together out of school and some comments made, mostly by Kakeru, about the progression of their relationship, and we get a mention during the Three Musketeers Arc.
But I can’t help but wonder about how they are at school. A part of me wants a dramatic scene with the Prince Yuki fan club finding out, which I can only assume would be like that one girl finding out about Kyoru x10000000. But a bigger part of me thinks they’d keep it on the down low. They don’t really have that long before Yuki goes to college, so they might just keep it chill and, while not secret, no where near as obvious as Kyoru.
#yuki absolutely makes it a game#trolling her into blushing as much as he can#but tbh i also think the fan club calms down as yuki becomes more confident and assertive#fruits basket spoilers#yukimachi
