8th March International Women's Day
Wishing all women A Happy Women's Day. May we move towards a more equal existence on this planet.
The journey was begun by our mothers and their grandmothers before them. Here's to having the courage and the strength to call out injustices and oppression in all spheres of life. Before we pass on the freedom torch to our daughters let us teach them about loving, believing and caring for themselves. That will set them up for success and empower them to script stories where they play leading roles.
Inviting all ladies to share personal and professional anecdotes on the futurelearner K12 page or in the comments section below.

OF FESTIVE BINGES & STAYING HEALTHY
From September right through December life is a parade of celebrations one after the other. We dress up to meet, gift and eat with our family and friends. Typically we end up consuming a lot of sweets, junk and beverages. In other words we binge eat. At last when we deign to drag ourselves back on the scale we get a rude 5 to10 lbs jolt. The world turns grey and we wonder how to do a reset.
With Christmas & and the New year parties just round the corner is it practical to begin abstinence you ask? It is not inevitable that we will fall off the health food wagon a week later? Why not wait till the new year to make healthy resolutions?
Abstinence in my opinion is a big "No", but moderation for the next week might just help us have our cake and eat it too!
Sharing some practical tips for the next 7 days to ensure a guilt free Yuletide and a happier 2022.
▪︎Have colourful, steamed, sauted or raw - well plated plant based food.
▪︎EAT WELL TO FEEL FULL.
▪︎Avoid packaged food & beverages.
▪︎Stay away from sweets, junk food and carbs.
▪︎Switch to natural foods like salads, fruits, smoothies, sprouts & pseudo grains.
▪︎Stay hydrated
▪︎Get off dairy and go vegan (as much as possible).
▪︎Begin from today, push through the weekend and hang in there till Christmas eve.
▪︎It is a short term goal. Here's wishing you success in achieving your Health Goals.
Inviting you to share your next 7 days on the futurelearner K12 page or in the comments section below.

Haiku and free verse writing has become the rage among all my Future Learner K12 writers over the past year. Sonakshi Mustafi is the newest among our budding poets to embrace these trendy verse forms. Her love for the haiku stemmed from its brevity and simplicity. Free Verse was where she experimented with rhyming words.
I think you might like this book – "LOCKDOWN POEMS" by SONAKSHI MUSTAFI.

HAPPY BHAI PHONTA
The bond between a brother and sister is bittersweet. As they grow up, in the face of external aggression (read either sibling getting bullied) the stronger one always protects the younger more vulnerable child.
When it comes to intra- sibling rivalry the story is a no holds barred punch fest( both metaphorical and real). That is how shared history and common narratives shape the lives of the brothers and sisters. At some point they leave the nest but the childhood memories anchor the relationship and keep it strong. Also the traditions like Bhai Phonta and Rakhi help the bond to grow stronger over time.
There are several brother-sister pairs who appear in Indian epics. Where as most of the pairs are "good" and benevolent, some are "bad" and vengeful. Be they be “good” or “bad”, the love and loyalty between the brother and sister is unquestionable.
Sharing 10 famous brother & sisters from Indian Mythology. Let us know how many of them you are familiar with.
1. Jagannath, Balaram & Subhadra
2. Krishna and Subhadra
3.Gandhari and Shakuni
4. Ravana and Surpanakha
5. Yama and Yamuna
6. Krishna and Draupadi
7. Vishnu and Parvati
8 Kripa and Kripi
9. Ram and Shanta
10. Kansa and Devaki

SUBHO BIJOYA
&
HAPPY DUSSERA 2021

On Dasami we bid good bye to Devi Durga and her children. This day also marks the victory of good over evil. Once again the annual ritual of coming together as family and friends rejuvenated our spirits. It was wonderful to see people coming together after the long period of enforced social distancing. Masks helped people to stay safe and connected during Puja 2021. The special highlight of this year's Puja was the announcement of vaccines for children. We hope to see our kids back in schools ASAP. We can almost see the light at the end of the dark covid tunnel. May we continue to develop loving & strong bonds with the people in our sphere. Stay safe & stay blessed.
Subho Bijoya.

HAPPY GANESH CHATURTHI
On this auspicious occasion I take the opportunity to wish all our writers and their families a healthy and prosperous Ganesh Chaturthi.
Lord Ganesh is worshipped for his multifaceted skills. He is known as the doler of prosperity, the original scribe of the Mahabharat and "vighna vinashak" or obliterator of obstacles.
The story of Ganesh is that he was created out of clay and animated by his mother Parvati. Lord Shiva - Parvati's husband was away at that time Ganesh was born. So neither Shiva nor Ganesh knew each other. One day Parvati instructed Ganesh to stand guard while she bathed. It so happened that Shiva returned from his travels that very day. He wanted to meet Parvati in her chambers but Ganesh stopped him at the door. A heated exchange at first verbal and then physical ensued. Ganesh fought valiantly. Eventually Shiva cut off his head. Parvati was enraged st the murder of her son and threatened Shiva with dire consequences. Unfortunately Ganesh's original head could not be found. An elephant was passing by and it's head was fixed onto Ganesh shoulder. Ganesh became alive and Parvati was happy once more.
There are many stories that revolve around Ganesh. The one I find inspiring is the way Ganesh overcame his "elephant head" look and went on to become a spectacularly popular household diety in the Hindu Pantheon. Which Ganesh story is your favour and why?

Teachers are softies like clouds.
Our smallest achievement makes them proud.
For understanding our problems they have a knack.
They always seem to have our back!

Students are who they generally train!
We love you dear teachers so very much,
We thank God for placing you on our watch.😍🌻👩🏻💻
💛💚💙 Love you Teachers!
Sonakshi Mustafi
Teachers are our friends.
They guide us to confidence.
Patiently loving.
As we celebrate the second "Covid" Teacher's Day let us take a moment to appreciate the steep learning curve that our teachers have been going through for the the last year and a half. HAPPY JANMASTAMI
Janmastami celebrates the birthday of Lord Sri Krishna. I take this opportunity to wish all our learners a Happy Janmastami.
At Future Learner K12 we are all about story writing and character creation. Personally I find the character of Krishna and his story to be absolutely fascinating. He is a fantastic creation by the sage Vedavyas the writer of the great Indian epic Mahabharata.
Krishna is worshipped by different names in different parts of India. He is known as Kanhaiyya in Mathura, Jagannath in Odisha, Gopal or Gobindo in West Bengal, Vithoba in Maharashtra, Srinath in Rajasthan, Dwarakadheesh in Gujarat, Krishna in Karnataka & Guruvayurappan in Kerala to name a few.
As we deep dive into his story we will see how Krishna overcame impossible odds to achieve his goals. He was born 5252 years ago in Mathura during Shravan (July) at midnight. His lived for about 125 years. There was not a single moment when he was at peace throughout his life. At every turn, he faced challenges. Where he stands out is that he went about his life with a sense of responsibility and remained unattached to the fruits of his actions. If there is one lesson that we should take away from his life it is that one.
Life had been unfair to Krishna from the very beginning. His mother Devaki was a princess from the Ugra clan and his father Vadudeva hailed from the Yadava clan. His parents had an inter-racial marriage. This led to the imprisonment of his biological parents by his maternal uncle Kansa who wanted to make sure that no child born of this “impure marriage” ever staked a claim to the throne of Mathura. Krishna was the eighth child of his parents. Earlier Kansa had killed seven of his siblings over the years. On the stormy night Krishna was born the prison gates had been miraculously left unlocked! Vasudeva took him across the Yamuna River to Gokul on the opposite bank and left him in the house of his adopted parents Nanda and Yashoda who were cowherds.
He was born dark skinned. So the villagers of Gokul started calling him Kanha or Krishna the black one. For the first 9 years of his life he was ridiculed for being dark and short. He was labeled a thief and often framed for stealing butter and curd.
Besides these everyday irritants his childhood was frought with many life threatening situations. Murdering wet-nurse, torrential rains and flooding, poisonous snakes to name a few. Finally when drought kicked in his family was forced to migrate from Gokul to Vrindavan.
It was during his stay at Vrindavan that he killed his uncle and released his biological parents from prison .
Krishna was just 11 years old when he left Vrindavan and moved to Dwaraka. For the next few years he consolidated his rule in there.
However he was soon caught up in the politics of the day and defeated the mighty Jarasandha with the help of Vainatheya Tribe. This victory established him as a center of power.
He turned his attention to his cousins the Pandavas next. He saved them from death by arson, played a significant role in their marriage to Draupadi, saved Draupadi from embarrassment at the royal court, established the kingdom of Indraprastha for them, stood by the Pandavas during their exile and made them win the Kurushetra war. Krishna was 89 years old the Kurukshetra happened.
He lived for 36 years after the Kurukshetra war. During this time he faced more loss. His cherished city, Dwaraka got washed away. He lost all his kin. He had the ability to see both the past and future, yet he always chose to live in the present.
He was killed by a hunter named Jara when he was napping in the nearby forest. Krishna is a character who lived life in the service of others. I hope all our writers and their families are inspired by this timeless creation.

HAPPY RAKSHA BANDHAN
From ancient times the rakhi (a colourful thread) was tied by sisters to the wrists of their brothers. The bond between siblings was sacred and upheld across race and religion. Even when the rakhi was sent by proxy the bond between siblings was condidered immutable. Hope you enjoy the two rakhi stories I have shared in this post. The characters in the tales are historical but their rakhi anecdotes are part of the rich oral tradition of India.
It is said that Rani Karnavati the widowed (Hindu) queen of Chittor sent a rakhi to Humayun the Moughal emperor (a Muslim) asking for his protectection for her kingdom. Humayun who had never seen the queen before accepted the rakhi. From being strangers, their relationship become one of brother and sister. Humayun became Karnavati's protector henceforth. Although he couldn't reach Chittor in time to save her life, he reinstated her son to the throne of Chittor.
Earlier Alexander of Macedonia's wife Roxana sent a rakhi to King Porus( Puru) asking him to protect her husband's life. It is said that Porus on seeing the sacred rakhi on Alexander did not attack him personally.
Do write to us about your Rakhi celebrations on the futurelearner K12 page.

THE MAGIC OF FRIENDSHIP
Wish all of you out there a wonderful Friendship day. May you be blessed with loyal and supportive friends and family.🌷⚘💐
The ability to make friends is an essential learning of childhood. The first friendship a child has is with his/her toys and dolls. These inanimate objects have the ability to foster social bonds and help single children & siblings in nuclear families get over their self centered and entitled selves. Toys also help to nurture creativity in kids.
As our intellectually sharp but emotionally all over the place darlings grow up, they learn to navigate through school and familial relationships. In the early stages of their "emotional maturity journey"- it is often their toys and imaginary friends who help them to cope. How children treat their toys is a way to peer into their hearts. A child becomes more socially adjusted as he/ she acquires the skill to make real friends. This is when intellectual, emotional and social growth takes place simultaneously in the learner.
As parents the groundwork for friendship with your child is to play with him/ her as often as you can (at least once a month). Toys, dolls, board games, outdoor games whatever works for you! Besides helping you to understand your child's emotional needs, it will be a wonderful trip down memory lane for you.
Inviting you to share your Friendship Day stories on the Future Learner K12 page.

RATH JATRA OR JAGGNNATH JATRA
Wishing all my dear students and their families a wonderful Rath Jatra.
The festival of chariots is actually a celebration of good health. It marks the end of social distancing of the three divine siblings Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra. Every year after a fortnight's illness and the necessary quarantine they recovered from their illness. Rath Jatra is their official return to public life. As conscientious dieties they only resume their work when they are no longer contagious or a threat to anyone else. They take a road trip to Gundicha Temple. This trip gives their devotees an opportunity to mingle with them and is the perfect way of getting life back to normal.
They have their own rath with its own name.
■Lord Jagannath’s chariot is called Nandighosa. It has a height of 44 ft and two inches, along with 16 wheels each having a diameter of 6 feet. The chariot is yellow and red, and the horses are white in colour and their names are Shankha, Balahaka, Suweta and Haridashwa.
■The chariot of Lord Balabhadra is named Taladhwaja, has a height of 43 feet and 3 inches and 14 wheels measuring six feet six inches in diameter. The chariot is green and red in colour, and the horses are black. The names of the horses are Tribra, Ghora, Dirghasharma and Swornanava.
■The chariot of Goddess Subhadra is called Debadalana. It has a height of 43 feet and three inches. The chariot has 12 wheels, measuring six feet eight inches in diameter and is black and red in colour. The horses for Devi Subhadra’s chariot are red and their names are Rochika, Mochika, Jita and Aparajita.
Now more than ever Rath Jatra has become poignant in its symbolism. We too await a return to our safe socializing days.
Have a great day with your near and dear ones. Add some lovely memories to your life story !
Take care. Stay safe.
Stay positive. Stay blessed.
