Meet Artist in Resident Nov 14!! TARA TRANSITORY aka One Man Nation (SG)
Tumblr media
Name: Tara Transitory Age: 33
Where in the world are you in this exact moment? Malmö
Tell us about your artistic practice! My work focuses on trying to induce myself into a trace-like state through the performance of sound.
What ticks you!? Good food and doing absolutely nothing.
How do you come up with new work/topics? By doing nothing and hoping that something comes up by pure luck/chance.
Do you have certain interests/subject matters that you tend to return to? Yes, namely gender, noise and rituals.
What Do You Do For Fun? Laying in bed with my partner.
Dance or Dinner? Dinner then dance no?
Audio or Visual? Audio definitely.
Rhythm or Bass? They are both of equal importance to me, I can't have one without the other.
What role does the artist have in society? One of the possible roles would be to present all that is wrong with their society to their society in the way that their society would somewhat understand.
What’s your favourite art work? Come on, too many to name!
What should we talk more about? Nothing, I think we should try talking a little less.
What wouldn’t you do without? L.O.V.E

Meet Artist in Resident Nov 14!! ROXY FARHAT (SE)
Tumblr media
Name: Roxy Farhat Age: 31
Where in the world are you in this exact moment? Sitting on a bed in Malmö. It’s a glamorous life.
Tell us about your artistic practice! I work mainly with video and performance. Now that I think about it it’s been years since I included any kind of objects in my work. The topics are often political and somewhat autobiographical. Making people laugh is important, probably because I laugh at everything, even the things that make me cry can still make me laugh.
What ticks you!? Politicians. Aggravates me just thinking about them. And cops. Ugh.
How do you come up with new work/topics? Usually in conversation with my friends or from personal experiences, like things that bother me or are too stupid to be true but still are.
Do you have certain interests/subject matters that you tend to return to? I guess you could say various experiences of dehumanization is a common denominator in my work.
What Do You Do For Fun? Sleep? I don’t know why my body is fighting me on this. But no, hang out with my friends, eat good food and chill with my plants.
Dance or Dinner? Both!
Audio or Visual? Audio-visual
Rhythm or Bass? Why the either or?
What role does the artist have in society? I actually feel like that’s very unclear. Artists are both supposed to be some kind of saviors of society and a promise for the future while we’re also seen as vermin and slackers. We’re expected to have all the answers and to get a job.
What’s your favourite art work? The universe.
What should we talk more about? I don’t know if talking more is gonna help. We should talk less and put our actions where our words are.
What wouldn’t you do without? My friends and my mother.

Meet: JOHN WILLGREN (SE)
Tumblr media
Name: John Willgren Age: 30
Royal Institute of Art, MA Fine Arts
Where in the world are you in this exact moment? Stockholm
Tell us about your artistic practice! I often have a quite clear idea what I want to shoot or capture. Recently it has partly involved the use of music and sound. The best reward is when it turns out different, in a good way.
What ticks you!? great ideas for art works, but they are rare, so I would say people with a sense of humor, and cute dogs...
How do you come up with new work/topics? They just come, I try to be curious in things that interets me and that are close to me...
Do you have certain interests/subject matters that you tend to return to? Musical topics
What Do You Do For Fun? Tennis.
Tell us a little about the work you are participating with on the FUTURE LEGENDS November 14th! In the video I perform the giutarr piece “Cavatina” with chance operations, using three dices that decide the tuning of the guitar as I play. The music originates from the 1970’s film “The Deer Hunter” in which a group of US soldiers are subjected to a game of “russian roulette” with a gun during the Vietnam war. In the movie, this tranquile guitar piece known as “Cavatina”, is a recurring motif. I wanted to subject the film music to chance and see what happened.
Dance or Dinner? dinner
Audio or Visual? must onw choose?
Rhythm or Bass? ryhthm
What role does the artist have in society? It’s up to every artist to decide, there’s no single role....
What’s your favourite art work? I have many, but one of them, “Box with the Sound of Its Own Making”, by Robert Morris.
What should we talk more about? Enough talking! (=
What wouldn’t you do without? musical instruments

Meet: JARMO ILMARI SOMPPI (FIN)
Tumblr media
Name: Jarmo Ilmari Somppi
Age:  45
University of the Arts Helsinki, Finland,  MA
Where in the world are you in this exact moment? Helsinki
Tell us about your artistic practice! In my works rooms, apartments and houses absorb the characteristics of their inhabitants. The installations, emerging from the psychoanalytic tradition can often be experienced through many different senses — the sense of spatiality, the smell and haptic experience.
Tell us a little about the work you are participating with on the FUTURE LEGENDS NOVEMBER 14. I am participating to FUTURE LEGENDS with my work I Didn’t Act , which consists of wooden floor and sound. I have recorded my own speech where I try to explain and analyze my own and theoretical background of the work I Didn’t Act. When it`s played through subwoofer, whole speech broke to non-verbal bass sounds which resonate even into viewers body and shakes the wooden floor. Floor react with human presence. Shaking and shivering of the floor is getting stronger when people are approaching it.
What role does the artist have in society? I appreciate artists whom have passion to give a critic and point out of problems of society, but in my artistic practice I try to look inside to my individual and personal issues and through that I try to reach some general levels of humanity. And we all, as an individuals, are part of the society and we make it what it is going to be.
What should we talk more about? I think people (including me) should Act more and talk less.

What ticks you!? Clocks tick me off.
How do you come up with new work/topics? Gradually.

Artists in Residency: MAKODE LINDE (SE) & KYOKA (JP)
Tumblr media
We meet Makode and Kyoka for an interview in Malmo. It is only their third day at Inter Arts Center and things are just about to get started :)
Hi Makode and Kyoka!
How are you approaching this collaboration? M: Enthusiastically!! K: Yeah Nice!! M: We are having fun and I like what Kyoka is doing, it is very different. We are from two different planets. K: Yes, and we are both very independent but at the same time we can neighbor  attack each other, it’s a nice combination :)
Where are you right now in your collaboration? M: We just got into the studios basically and started connecting to the toys and starting throwing up some tracks and mixing them and I like it. K: Yeah I also started connect with IAC environment and starting to understand the machines, the place and Palladium. I’m getting relaxed with the place and preparing for the basic setting. I’m want to create a flexible playground for both of us so I’m preparing my own sound with the collaboration in mind. Now we work half and half and later we will merge. M: Yes, we haven’t set the date for it but I guess in a day or two we will start merging. K: Our different efforts will bring us to another dimension.
MAKODE LINDE Dance or Dinner? With who?!?! Audio or Visual? Hm.. Can’t you rephrase as; no ear or no eyes?! - I would chose one ear and one eye!!! Rhythm or Bass? Im not going to choose What Do you do for fun? You can’t print thaaat!!!
KYOKA Dance or Dinner? Dance with food!! Audio or Visual? Audio Rhythm or Bass? BOTH! What Do you do for fun? Cooking and cleaning and watching the sky - I’m very dangerous ;) (While asking this question we discover that Kyoka’s prenounsation of the words “for fun” phonetically sounds exactly like the Swedish profanity “för fan” and we think that is allot of FUN!!)

Meet the artists: MOOT POINT FUJI HOFFMAN(SE) DAVID KUMMER (DE) MARLENE BONNESEN (DK) JENS SCHYTH BRØNDUM (DK/US)
Tumblr media
Name: Fuji, David, Marlene, and Jens Age: 28, 26, 25, 24
The Danish National School of Performing Arts, BA/Diploma
Where in the world are you in this exact moment? Third Planet from the Sun.
Tell us about your artistic practice! We all have really different practices, therefore we are the Moot Points: An issue that is subject to, or open for, discussion or debate, to which no satisfactory answer is found: Originally, one to be definitively determined by an assembly of the people.
We have different interests and approaches to our own individual work, and when we work together we gather our experiences and thoughts, and share them equally between each other. In that sense we believe that our work, in the long term, gets more honest and diverse.
What ticks you!? French science fiction, 1960’s comics, poetry, beats and bodies.
How do you come up with new work/topics? Our question is “how do we NOT come up with new topics?"
Do you have certain interests/subject matters that you tend to return to? Our discussions and worries are always circling around the utopia/dystopia world picture, or at least as long as we have worked together in this group constellation. By discussing different issues and tendencies in society, new ideas and research points arise. From there we try to manifest these ideas into a body expression.
What Do You Do For Fun? Laughing, eating cake, drinking coffee, and solving each others problems.
Tell us a little about the work you are participating with on the FUTURE LEGENDS OCTOBER 3. With the springboard from the idea of the utopian body we have investigated how different utopias (and inevitably dystopias) are manifested and suggested through different medias:
By studying several science fiction movies from U.S. and USSR dealing with the imagined leap of human society living next to or confronted by the apocalypse, space travel, and the human robot hybrid, we have been led to the philosophical reading of Michel Foucault “Utopian Body”, artistic understanding of the ancient civilization by Tito Lucretius, and beyond to the ideas of the Post-Human in an imagined future where humans are starting to co-exist with cyborgs. Through these studies we have had the body as the central focus point; the body as the constant living organism that transforms into different states of being depending on the current situation. Inner and outer relations, with the body being the entity, have played a huge factor in our research.
“Chill out, we have already been reborn” is an invitation to our utopian proposal. Being aware of the fact that there is no such thing as a utopia, that we are not interested in creating statements, only suggestions, we would like to take the audience on a journey. Through questions and celestial noise our bodies will transform into all that is reachable in the imagination of the audience.
Dance or Dinner? Dince!!!
Audio or Visual? Headphones?
Rhythm or Bass? Rhythm is a dancer.
What role does the artist have in society? We somehow see art as a moot point (go back to question 5 for details)
What’s your favorite art work? “Music for 18 musicians” Steve Reich. Nils Frahm “Spaces”. Early works from Marina Abramovic. two-woman-machine-show “Mass Hysteria”. "This is concrete" by Jefta van Dinther. Lars Von Trier “Antichrist”. “På Israels Plads” by Henrik Nordbrandt.
What should we talk more about? Several things: How to let go. How to be more aware of our choices in general. How to be clear. How to treat each other. How to gain empathy. How to deal with online life/real life. How to navigate in a system that doesn’t include you.
What wouldn’t you do without? I really should go to sleep now…

Tell us about your artistic practice! What ticks you!? I am almost done reading the Blue Book and then I might read the brown one.
How do you come up with new work/topics? I read, scratch my head, possibly misinterpret/don’t understand anything, stay in the studio until late and once I leave the studio and the doing nothing/struggling (with doing nothing) part was earnest, some idea might pop up.

What Do You Do For Fun? Raving
Tell us a little about the work you are participating with on the FUTURE LEGENDS OCTOBER 3. NEED MORE SPACE THAN TIME Brainwave cinema.
Film is a visual and sound journey through the non-linear story set. Mix of images is the exploration of the grammar of film montage and meditative role of cinema. Using different sound spectrums and visual keys, strongly interacting with brain, film creates hypnotic state.
Film refers to the James Joice´s idea of the Chaosmos (chaotic set of subconscious stream) and Guilles Deleuze´s concept of joining together scenes which are not meant to be together from the first look. Final effect is brought by subliminal decoding the scenes and building up meta levels, what brings the center (subconscious understanding) on the end.
Panpsychism, New Buddhism, self-awareness, electromagnetic waves, philosophy of the mind, neuroplasticity, contemporary religion and understanding of present time and space are just a few keys of decoding the film.
