As Generative AI continues to evolve, many have been asking whether it will replace data scientists. But anyone predicting that data scientists will be replaced by GenAI—at least based on its current trajectory—likely sees them as nothing more than “SQL monkeys” churning out data and charts.
The role of a data scientist goes far beyond querying data and building dashboards. It’s a unique blend of creative thinking, deep business and customer understanding, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams (XFNs). In fact, the parts of the job that are most likely to be replaced by GenAI are often the ones data scientists enjoy the least.
