tears well up in her eyes - it’s not even here yet and mama already likes it better!

  ❛ UM— ❜   she’s shocked at the sudden suggestion, pausing to glance down at the bump that’s just barely started to form. then gaze darts back to small child, confident in her assessment of the situation.   ❛ lura, that’s not— why would you want me to put the baby back? don’t you want a little brother or sister? ❜

her frown deepens.

    ❛ sprock no. babies are stupider than a bag of rocks. and they smell bad. ❜

lura’s gaze shifts from her mother’s face to her stomach. the baby in there is going to ruin her life. she just KNOWS it.

    ❛ i hate the stupid baby. ❜

It’s always, ‘Alura, those chemicals aren’t meant for children.‘

‘Alura, you’re too young to use a plasmatorch by yourself.’

‘Alura, you can’t build a multicylindar laser rifle.’

It’s so BORING.

She frowns when her mother changes the subject. Lura knows what she’s doing: trying to distract her so she’ll leave the lab alone.

    “Why do you want to play chess, Mama? You’re just gonna LOSE again.”

Hello! I'd like to ask you if you would draw Karadox with their little girl XTC (from Kingdom Come)

Hi! I know you sent me this ask months ago, and I am so sorry that it’s taken me so long to answer it, but I also went a bit overboard with drawing XTC stuff, sooo maybe that makes up for it? 😅

Instead of drawing the versions of Karadox and XTC from Kingdom Come, I decided to modernize her and basically try to design a CW version of her. Hopefully that’s okay!

Here’s a page of rough sketches focused on her childhood:

I didn’t officially give her a name, but in my head I’ve been calling her “Maya” thanks to @winterskywrites​ and her Karadox fics. :) Your mileage may vary, though. 

And now here’s a more cleaned-up page of her as a grown-up superhero (XTC is her superhero name, of course):

I did my best with the suit - it’s inspired by both Supergirl and XTC’s Kingdom Come suits, and combines the House of El crest with the three Brainiac dots - but pls keep in mind that I am not a fashion designer lol. I just really wanted her to wear something other than the impractical and super-revealing suit from the comics. The actual design is likely to change as I draw it more.

Anyway, I hope you like these!! I had a lot of fun drawing them. :)

    Mar’i sucked on her bottom lip, trying not to let any tears trip over the edge of her lower lids. 

    She always knew Alura was trying. That she was trying her best. They were both healing all the time. 

    She knew that. 

    But it didn’t make it any easier when they hurt each other. When Mar’i’s hot head got the better of her and she hurt Lura, or Lura hurt her, there was always a moment when they stopped, realized what they were doing. 

    She tried being her mother by letting softness guide her. By letting kindness guide her in place of anger. 

    “I know.” The salt of her tears trickled over her bottom lip. “I’m sorry, Lura, I know you are.”

   “Father isn’t in right now. He took Kal and they      went off to do twelfth-level things or whatever.”

Which meant she was left out. Again.

    “... But I can take a look, if you’d like.”

Lura was still a tenth-level intellect, after all. The Carter family’s handle on tech was decent enough, for humans. She was sure she could handle whatever it was.

    “Are you looking for my father? Does your father       need something fixed AGAIN?”
